IBook g4 ran out of disk space, internet doesn't work

Hi.
I have an iBook G4, running OSX 10.3. Yesterday, we were looking at some pictures on the machine and we put too much stuff on hard drive; iBook said it ran out of space (presumably for virtual memory) and then froze.
We rebooted, did a big archive/clean-up (ten gigs free, now). It ran sluggishly, I zapped the pram and nvram, it runs well. Now, we can't get the internet to work through our Airport. But here's the weird thing:
-We have 4 bars. Airtunes works perfectly.
-Our other iBook (G3, 10.4) connects to the internet just fine.
-If we connect to our neighbor's airport, we get internet but it's really slow, slower than usual.
Any thoughts?

1. HDD Size: 74G
2. Data used: 63G
3. Free disk space: 11G
4. Two OS version running: OS X 10.3.9 and OS 9.2
Here is the user report:
When he access internet or check email, out of disk space message will alert him after a period. And he notice that the HDD has only few mega bytes free disk space. For this moment, he need to restart computer and free disk capacity will return to 11G. Thanks.

Tried installing Illustrator CC but ran out of disk space on primary drive... how can I install on secondary drive?

Run_Esperanza how much space do you still have available on your primary drive?  It is possible to customize the installation destination within the Creative Cloud Desktop application.  You can find more details at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.
Please be aware that you will need disk space on the primary drive to installed shared components plus contain the temporary files for installation.

  • Ran out of disk space - 1TB drive

I've run out of disk space for back up with my 1 TB drive I use for TM. The key reason is because of the HD files I am using for my home movies not to mention the media I have been buying off of iTunes.
I have an unused 500GB drive. Can I somehow create a "RAID" drive that can "combine" my 1TB drive and my 500GB drive into 1 drive that TM can use? I know RAID drives can be created using Disk Utility, but I am not sure if this is really the purpose of a RAID drive.
    Any insights?
    Tony

    no.
Although it is possible to create a raid using 2 drives of different sizes, the size of the raid will be slightly smaller than 2x the size of the smallest drive..and you will lose the 'extra' space on the larger drive.
Raids are also better suited for internal drive configurations - that way, you can't accidentally break your RAID by (accidental or intentionally) disconnecting a drive. If you break your raid, you have lost all your data.
Hazard of a 2 drive raid is data loss. Unless you are using 3 drives, data integrity is compromised. (raid with error recovery requires a 3rd drive)

  • The server is failing to download some updates. Event ID 10032 (ran out of disk space & extended volume, still got error)

On Friday, 9/17 @ 7 am, after deselecting Windows 2003 in products, I ran Server Cleanup Wizard (as well as sqlcmd -I -i"WsusDBMaintenance.sql" -S "np:\\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query"), and 0 bytes were freed which I thought
odd.   I then selected Windows Server 2012 R2 and Office 2013 since we're going to be using those.
After this, on 9/19 @ 7:30am, the server had the message:      Event 364 Content file download failed. Reason: There is not enough space on the disk.    Source File: /d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2014/04/coreservermui-it-it_ebb7e1e8d487b90ffd719f06122a3db947b3f949.cab
    Destination File: e:\WSUS\WsusContent\49\EBB7E1E8D487B90FFD719F06122A3DB947B3F949.cab.
At some time during the day on 9/19, our SAN admin increased the volume (all server's volumes are on a SAN) from the SAN end, and I extended it in Disk Mngmt on the WSUS server.   I went home for the weekend
I came back today (9/22), saw I had gotten the "the server is failing to download some updates. Event ID 10032"   on Saturday 9/20 @ 1:30am.   I checked the volume \WSUScontent is on (the volume we extended) and it has
17GB free. So I assume space should not still be an issue.
The same 10032 error had occurred on 9/19, at 1:30 pm, but I assume it was before my colleague and I bumped up the disk space.  But why it occurred again the next day I'm not sure.
However, since the 10032 error on 9/20 @ 1:30am, it has not reoccured, and no yellow or red event messages.  So possibly all is well now.  Could it have been that WSUS was being sluggish to recognize the increased disk space, even though Windows
    itself recognized it?

Thanks Lawrence, I went through the steps you instruct on (which I did not know about, so I greatly appreciate that!), and freed up over 30GB of space.
    Outstanding! :-)
But your steps don't really address deleting all (solely) 2003 updates.
Correct. First, because you cannot DELETE updates, unless they are expired or old revisions, and use the Server Cleanup Wizard to do that.
Second, because the article was about removing *unneeded* updates. It does not consider the scenario where a product category is being retired
When I go to my "2003" update view, sorting by Any Except Declined, and Status Any, I still see tons of 2003 ones, some solely for it, others that apply to 2003 and other OSs. I want to leave the latter, but delete the ones solely for
2003. Not just superseded ones, but ALL that are solely for 2003.
You cannot delete updates. You can DECLINE updates, if that's what you want to do.
So let's talk a minute about these updates that might be applicable to operating systems other than Windows Server 2003. Let's be practical about the other operating systems listed. If you look closely, I suspect you will discover that those "other
operating systems" are either Windows XP or Windows 2000, but nothing else. Do updates for Windows XP or Windows 2000 really matter to you? I suspect not.
The reason I highly suspect this is because the practice of building packages targeted at multiple operating systems was terminated when Windows Vista was released (actually I think it happened with the release of WSUS v3, but this is just a matter of trivia,
the relevant point is that it's not done anymore, and has not been done for many years).
Ergo, I know for a fact, that NONE of the updates applicable for Windows Server 2003, will be applicable for any newer operating system. Ergo, it probably doesn't matter at all, so just SelectAll -> Decline if that's what you want to do.

  • Why I ran out of disk space?

I have a brand new macbook air, since I need windows for my business I did install parallels 8 and windows 7 but my machine is useless now with just 25GB of disk space left, how I could free disk space to work?

From the Finder Menu Bar > Apple Logo > About This Mac > More Info... > Storage
Take a screenshot and post in your reply.
I would advise against Parallels. Bootcamp is not virtualization software, which is the major difference, along with being proprietary Apple software.

  • Time machine ran out of disk space

My WD passport has 2 partitions. I need to get rid of the partitions so I have enough room for backups. Can I wipe the whole disk clean and start fresh with just one partition. I'm not tech savvy so I need walking through the procedure if it can be done.
    Thanks in advance.

Yep, but you may be able to change the partitioning without having to erase the drive. First, starting from scratch:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Second, changing on the fly may be possible but only if the TM partition is the first partition on the drive:
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. Click in the area of the bottom partition. It will become enclosed in dark blue lines. Click on the [-] Delete button to remove the partition.
    4. Now grab the sizing gadget of the remaining partition with your mouse and drag all the way to the bottom of the partition window. The sizing gadget is in the lower right corner of the partition rectangle.
    5. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process is completed.
You should now have one volume on the drive.

  • How do I recover iMovie files corrupted by running out of disk space?

I've been using iMovie HD 6.0.3 to create recordings using a webcam from time to time. Usually I just leave the camera on during presentations. On two different occasions I ran out of hard disk space, and have been unable to playback the videos I've recorded. One is very important and I'd like to save it if at all possible. The video data is definitely on the hard drive (I have a 9 gig file), however, attempts to play it using Quicktime Pro or iMovie fail. iMovie acts as if the movie contains no data even though over 2 hours were recorded. (Quicktime Pro responds with a Mac OS Error -1409)
Apparently if iMovie runs out of disk space during a recording, it is unable to save or later recover the file properly. While it seems to store the video data, perhaps the file is missing some sort of critical markers or pointers.
Does anyone know of a way to recover the video from this file? Perhaps there is a tool to somehow pull the video stream out of the corrupted file that was saved by iMovie?
Please let me know if you have any ideas! It is very important that I recover these files. Thanks!

Hi QuakingBog - What happened when you discovered this situation?
    1. There was an error displayed on the screen saying it was almost out of disk space.
Did iMovie remain open, with the file showing in the Clips Pane or Timeline?
    2. The clip I was recording went from showing the image which was on the camera and elapsed time (which had been over 2 hours just before then) to showing just black and showing a total record time of 0:00 as soon as it ran out of disk space. Even though lots of data was recorded, it went back to looking as if nothing was recorded.
I would be surprised if iMovie 'saved' it of its own accord (it has no auto-save feature). Did you hit Save? If there is a 9 GB file, then obviously somehow something was saved.
    3. Yes, I hit save. I also hit "Save As" after this and saved it to an external hard disk with more free space as well. I can't get anything to play from either place.
Have you checked within the project 'package' to see if there are any files actually saved? To check, Control-Click on the project (with the star on it), and select Show Package Contents. Anything in the Media folder? Look for a .mov file in one of the folders - does it play?
    4. Yes, there are files in there. There is a Clip 01.mov that is 9.29 gb, but it won't open or play.
    In cache there are...
    Timeline Movie.mov 8KB
    Thumbnails.plist 4K
    Timeline Movie Data.plist 4K
    In media there is also...

  • Exchange 2010 running out of disk Space

Hi I wonder if anyone can help.
We have a situation whereby over night we have ran out of disk space on a partition.  We have DAG environment and have 3 mbx servers and 3 CAS servers.
By calculations we have 119 Mailboxes mounted on this partition and if all had reached the 4gb we allow the mailboxes to grow to (which they aren't) this would account for 476 GB in size?  Looking at the .edb it's current size is 560GB.  Looking
at forums people seem to mention that Exchange doesn't clear up after itself particulary well and often leaves a lot of white space in the database?  Is this the case and if so does anyone have any solutions to remove it?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
Exchange will always run online defragmentation on nightly basis, it rearrange the data (database pages really) within the database to have more contiguous white space.
We can run below command to check the maintenance schedule: Get-MailboxDatabse | FL Identity,MaintenanceSchedule
More details about “Do we need to file-level defragment Exchange database drives?”. For your reference:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2004/10/25/247342.aspx
For your question, we can run command as Gador mentioned to get more details about Exchange environment. Especially, mailbox database copy.
More details about Database and Log Performance Factors, please refer to:

  • Time Capsule running out of disk space

If anyone ran out of disk space on their time Capsule, did the system delete the oldest backups as advertised?  My 1TB is about full.

Please check out this excellent Pondini Time Machine article to see if it will help answer your question. Basically, Time Machine will delete the oldest backups "as advertised," but there are times when this doesn't always appear to work that way.

  • DPM is out of disk space for the replica

Trying to make a bare metal backup of a phyiscal server running 2008 R2 SP1 . I've checked im not out of space. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the agent, I've manually tried to make the disk allocation larger same error.
DPM is out of disk space for the replica. (ID 58 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909FF)
This is in the event log on the Client machine
The backup operation attempted  has failed to start, error code '2155348040' (There is not enough free space on the backup storage location to back up the data.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once
    the issue is resolved.
I have several other machines doing bare metal backups they are virtual but I can't see why that would be any different. They have no problems doing this. I have seen hacks on the internet editing xml files to get this to work changing allcritical to "C:".
I'd like an actual fix for this please?

Mike quick question. How can I determine which share my particular server is using to backup to? Here is what I get when I try to do a DIR on the folder as system
    C:\Windows\system32>whoami
    nt authority\system
    C:\Windows\system32>dir
    \\kdnap-util1\0ae3c77eaab54ea09b0724737a125f48
    Access is denied.
    C:\Windows\system32>dir
    \\kdnap-util1\12068c1992634c92addf44bfbee5cada
    Access is denied.
I was just trying to poke around to browse the folder to see which one to back it up to . But with the access denied error this isn't helpful :)
Here is my list of shares
    C:\Windows\system32>net view \\kdnap-util1
    Shared resources at \\kdnap-util1
I also tried doing a DIR from a server that is backing up correctly on any of those shares listed above after running psexec and I get access denied from them as well so I guess thats normal

Cisco Message Store Manager Version 1.4.0.38
    Exchange Information Store Version: 6.5.7638.1

Here is the situation: My client never set up any storage or flush procedures within Cisco Unity Tools Message Store Manager (MSM). Now they have several voice mailboxes with a half a GB of data or more in their (Deleted Items Folder)
I ran the (flush messages from deleted items folder) with success on these voice mailboxes.
The question is should I see some disk space reclaimed on the Server Hard Drives?
    Thanks, Tom

With Exchange, you will not see disk space reclaimed until an offline defrag is run against the Exchange databases.

  • Ran out of storage space

Recently ran out of storage space on my laptop, where I have been storing all music/videos purchased from iTunes. The music library points to a location in the hard disc of the laptop. Now that I have no more space on the internal hard disc I acquired an external 250 GB disc. What's the best way to move forward with iTunes? I don't really know what to do.
    1. Should I copy all existing music/videos to the external drive?
    2. Should I point the library to the new location on the external drive?
    3. Should I delete all existing music/videos from internal storage and leave them on the external drive?
    4. How to avoid double entries of each song/video?
    Thanks for your help.

  • "Error:Out of Disk Space" message. Why?

I've been using an Apple G4 with FCP2 to capture footage through a Sony DSR-11 deck. I've set up a LaCie 500GB 7200, with most of its 500GB available, as capture disk. As late as last summer I used this system to capture 70+ hours of footage which was then edited on another system.
This time I've met only problems. I've tried capturing 5 different DV tapes. They seem to be capturing but at the end of the hour I get the message "Error: Out of Disk Space".
Does anyone know why this might be happening? I've checked the set up and everything seems in order. (These tapes are 4:3, the ones captured last year were 16:9 DV, so the only adjustment I had to make was un-checking "anamorphic".) I even tried capturing to the MAC hard drive to see if the problem was the LaCie drive, but I get the same same message. (The LaCie I've been using had been full with last year's capture scratch and the disk had been erased through LaCie's Silverlining program, so for a while I began to think that this may be the problem; that maybe I'd have to reformat the disk, etc. but this test seems to rule that out.)
    Thanks.
    John

Since I last wrote I’ve changed hard drives, run tests on them, as well as trash my preferences, which I did earlier. Still, if I try to capture a tape (to disks with up to 460 GB available) I get the message “Error: Out of Disk Space”. The only thing I can think of doing now is deleting and then reinstalling the Final Cut software.
Here I’m kind of dumb and don’t want to make any mistakes. This Apple has been a stand-alone computer used only for Final Cut and the software was installed when I got it. The rest of my life has been conducted on a PC. So is there anything I should do before deleting Final Cut? Should I be doing anything to protect exiting project files, captured clips, thumbnail cache etc.? Will Final Cut just recognize these when I re-install? What do I do? Just open the Mac hard drive, identify the Final Cut application and drag it to Trash? Do I need to empty the trash first or should I leave it there for safety?
I look at the instructions that came with my ancient Final Cut 2 disks. Here’s what they say in full:
To install QuickTime, follow these steps
    1) Insert the Final Cut Pro CD in your CD drive. (I see I have two disks: one “Final Cut Pro 2”, the other “Final Cut Pro 2:Tutorial Media” Do I need to install the second?)
    2) Double-click the CD’s icon, then double-click the QuickTime Installer folder.
    3) Double-click the QuickTime Installer icon and follow the onscreen instructions.
    4) When the Choose Installation Type window appears, select Custom, then click Continue.
    5) In the next window, click Select All, then continue
This replaces any previous versions of QuickTime and ensures a complete installation of all components required by Final Cut Pro.
    6) When a message appears saying installation was successful, click Restart.
Is this all straightforward or might there be any potential pitfalls in the above instructions for someone unfamiliar with installing software on a Mac (In my case old software and an old Mac – a G4)? I guess I should also ask if you folks out there agree that re-installing Final Cut may be the answer to my problem, that this error message is the result of a glitch that has arisen in the installed version of Final Cut.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • My mac is runnug out of disk space. Do /i need to by external drives?  how much memory should i get

My imac is running out of disk space. I download a lot of media from itunes. The HD movies and TV shows use so  much space. Should I switch to the cloud, clean up my memory or buy an external memory drive? If i get an external drive how much memory is suggesyed? 1TB, 2TB or more?

Buy an external hard drive on which to save your media. The drive should be large enough to handle your entire iTunes Library plus how much you would anticipate adding to the library over the next few years. Then backup your existing library to the external drive: iTunes- Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
After you have backed up the library to the external drive you can configure iTunes to use the library on the external drive in iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Change the path to the external drive. Once you do that quit and relaunch iTunes. It should now be using the library on the external drive. Now you can delete the library on the internal hard drive to free up the space.
