IBook G4 shuts down by its self

I replaced my hinges the other day and when I put it back together it would not boot up, it turned out that I needed to remove the hex screw on the right side on the underside of the laptop then it worked fine. Then today I replaced the cdrom drive with a combo drive and its doing again but when I did get it to power up it would make a loud whining noise, long beep, and the sleep light would flash then restart boot up hafe way then restart and when it would boot up it seem fine then when I moved it it asked me if I want to shut down and I hit cancle but would shut down anyway as if the battery was taken out. What is the problem with it? I spent alot of money in this in upgrades just to have quit working also I ran disk utility and it found nothing wrong. Colton

I have now had to remove both hex screws from the bottom of the case and it still shut down by it self once in a while but not as bad as earlier also when I close the lid I noticed it would sleep then for a second the apple light while flash then go back out. Is my logic board about dead? I'm sick of putting money in this, 450 when I bought it early last year 63 dollars for a combo drive and hinge now plus a logic board, If I new this would happen I would have saved my money for a macbook which I cant afford now.

  • My iPad isn't playing music and shuts down by its self can I get it fixed?

My nephew knocked my iPad off the bed and now the volume is not working also it shuts down by its self i have warranty for it can I get it fixed? Or do I get a new one?

The warranty is a limited manufacturer's warranty, not insurance. The warranty does not cover accidental damage.

  • Laptop shuts down by its self and i dont know why

my laptop just out of no where just shuts down for no reason at all and i want to know why its doing this for?? so if i have to get it fixed i could, it was bought on February 15 2007 so it is a little older but other then it just shutting down by it self it works really great.

The failure description is vague, so it would be hard to tell you exactly what is happening.  What happens when it shuts down?  Are there any error messages when it restarts?  Does there seem to be an excess of heat at the vents or under the system when it shuts down?  Are you using the computer on a solid surface, or on your lab, blanket, etc?  Can you hear the internal fan running?  How long has it been since this computer has been serviced?
If the computer has not been serviced since new, then it probably needs to be taken apart, cleaned, and have fresh thermal compound applied to the processor.

I want to change the time lapse so that my iphone doesn't shut down (sleep) so quickly when not in use. How do I do this. - isn't there a way of making it 5 minutes, or 10 minutes, etc?

  • Ibook G4 shutting down on its own

I have a ibook G4 just over a 2 years old and it lately it has been acting odd. So far it has turned its self off three times then wont turn back on for about 10 min. After letting it sit for 10 min, I took the batter out then put it back and the computer started back up -- but replacing the batter only worked after 10 min.
When I turn it back on, there is a notice that the clock is set to March 24th, 2001 and then the time on the top of my desk top states 7:01pm Wed. Dec. 31, 1969. When I open up the date and time to fix it, the time is already back to normal. Additionally, it has randomly gone to sleep while I was working.
Does anyone have any suggestions to why this is happening? I am concerned because the computer is not that old and it has a new battery and a 1 year old hard-drive.
    thanks so much,
    Shealyn
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks for the advice! Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this, or how to know for sure if it is the battery as it was bought this past august.

If your Mac stil generates a kernel panic, backup your important data then reformat (erase) the disk and restore using OS X Recovery

  • Ibook G4 shuts down unexpectedly and resets time and date

More and more frequently my iBook will shut down completely unexpectedly when not plugged in. This happens regardless of how much battery life it has or it claims to have (80%, 40%, 20%, 12%). It will not start up again from battery only. When I plug the computer and restart it, it has reset time and date to Wed March 31 1969, 19.31 pm. It alerts me that the time is set to before 2001 and this may lead applications to behave erratically.
Is this normal? Why is this happening?
I have a few months left of my APP, but that doesn't cover battery related problems, right?

Hi astaver and welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you are still using the original battery from a nearly 3 yrs old iBook then it is almost certain that the battery has reached the end of its useful life. The symptoms you describe more or less confirm this.
To check on battery health go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac>More Info>Power>Battery and copy/paste the info into a reply.
You can also download and install Coconut Battery which gives a GUI to the same info.
You are right in assuming that Applecare doesn't cover you for a dead battery of this age but you might like to see if you qualify under the iBook & PowerBook G4 - Battery Exchange Program.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • Ibook G4 shuts down for no reason

hi can anyone help me with a problem thats just started to happen with my ibook or maybe its happened to someone else and they have a solution. the problem i'm having is that my ibook just shuts down for no reason esp. when i'm online and won't start up again unless i remove the battery leave it out for a few seconds then put it back in and it press the on button. i have kept my software up to date and as soon as a new update is available its downloaded and installed on the computer and i also have intego security software on my mac, so this is why i'm a little confused if my software is up to date and i have my security software protecting my mac why is it shutting down i have ran virus scan after virus scan but it comes up clean every time, is my mac on the way out (its only 2 years old) or is there something i'm missing or not doing. i would be very thankful if anyone can help me with this because although there is plenty of shiny new macbooks out there i kinda like my ibook and i don't want to let it go with a fight. thanks again

    hi john
quick question is it possible for my ibook to reset its pmu itself, i looked up the effects of resetting the pmu on the apple site and one of the things it says will happen when the pmu is reset is that, "After the reset, on some iBooks and PowerBooks, the system clock is set to 00:00 (GMT), 01 Jan 1970 for computers with Mac OS X" , its just that when my ibook shuts down an i manage to start it back up the clock is set to 00:00 (gmt) 01 jan 1970 so does that mean its resetting itself or is the date going back to then because i take the battery out. thanks for your help so far

Does anyone know why its doing this? Or a way i can fix it? I've cheaked for updates and there is none!
    Thankyouuu
it looks like that when it is locked and when its unlocked it looks like this

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
    2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck

  • HP officejet pro 8600 Plus shuts down on its own while making numerous copies.

My printer HP officejet Pro 8600 Plus keeps shutting down if I print or make more than 5 copies then gives me a message to avoid damage shut down the printer with the on button.  Well it shuts down on its own.

    Hello mb_bernhardt,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that your Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer is giving you a Printer Failure message and then the printer shuts down.
I’ve included the A 'Printer Failure' Message That Might Include an '0x610000f6' or '0x61xxxxxx' Error Code Displays o... document.  If the error message that you’ve received includes an Error code there is one set of instructions to follow, and if there is no Error code  there is another set of instructions to follow.

  • Mac Pro shut down on its own, then on boot up it beeped steadily for 2 min?

I put my 2009 Mac Pro to sleep then the next day I find it completely shut down! I boot it up and then I hear a steady beep (every second) for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes the beeping went away.
Any idea what caused Mac Pro to shut down on its own? And what does the steady beeping mean? The beeping is coming from inside the Mac Pro's speakers, not from my BOSE 5 computer speakers.
I don't think there was a power outage as the UPS is fully charged, and I asked a neighbor across the street.

I wasn't clear in my description, it's a steady continuous beep, it's a rhythmic beep -- it'll do this for 200 beeps or about 2-4 minutes.

  • Mac mini shut down on its own, will not restart, grey screen, spinning wheel. Unplugged everything, will still not restart. Did safe boot, will not restart after safe boot, only grey screen with spinning wheel.

Mac mini shut down on its own. Could not restart, chime, grey screen and spinning wheel. Unplugged everything but monitor, still only chime, grey screen and spinning wheel. Started in safe boot, shut Down, will not restart.
This happened a couple of months ago, unplugged everything and it restarted, now that won't work.

    Hi BDAqua,
I just did the repair as you suggested. T ran the disc repair, and twice it cam back, the volume macintosh seems ti be okay, I also ran the verify and permissions repair, both came back okay.
I was actually hoping that they would find something, so they could repair. I shut the computer down, and restated with out holding a key, and I started up great. I'm baffled.  I have moved 20 GB to an external hard drive, as I only had 10% open space.
I have Tech Tool 6, would you recommend to run a repair check on that, or just leave well enough alone.
I agree with you on the new Mac's, I have problems with no disc for back up, until they realize their mistake I will stay with Snow a Leopard. This is the first problem I have experienced, so I can't complain. Their last programs are not as perfected as under Steve, prior to his handling over the reins, hope this is not going to be the future we can expect from Apple.
I will wait to here back as to your suggestion regarding the Tech Tool check
    Thanks for all your help.
    Gratefully,
    Cheri

  • My iMac freezes and sometimes shuts down on its own. Any suggestion on how to fix this? Thanks.

My iMac freezes and sometimes shuts down on its own. Any suggestion on how to fix this? Thanks.

Might want to run the Apple Hardware Test just in case.
Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
If the hardware checks out ok the startup disk may need repairing.
Follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

Is it possible that you or someone who knows your iCloud sign on went into the Find My iPhone app and erased your device via iCloud? Because that is what that message is saying.
Have you tried to sign on with your Apple ID and password?
Was it online prior to this incident happening?

  • My MacBook Air shuts down when its more than half way charged and won't turn on unless I plug it in to the adapter? Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

My MacBook Air shuts down when its more than half way charged and won't turn on unless I plug it in to the adapter? Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

If you really do have a Mid 2013 Mac Air model then it is still in warranty, as the standard Apple warranty is one year from date of purchase. So take it into an Apple store and have it diagnosed and fixed under the warranty. There is some type of hardware problem that only Apple can fix.
