ok so i have a 2002 ibook g4 with version 10.3.5 and I need tiger 10.4 i see it in the apple downloads but i can't see if it's a free download or what. so can someone help me out with this?

Need help finding the correct restore software for an early '04 iBook 1.07GHz pre-loaded w/ 10.3.3 new and slot-loading ComboDrive. I purchased it used w/out software. The following is available on eBay:

Don't know what he deal is. They gave me no hassle. I just stated I bought the computer used without disks, and they said OK. Sorry you have had no luck, but I WOULD try again until they get it right. Seems 60 bucks is a little steep. Previous owner said they were included, but she took it to an Apple store and the wiped it out and restored it (why she couldn't do it is beyond me). They did not ship them with the laptop, though. Oh, well, $34.32 wasn't too bad. Good luck and don't give up...

The info on that is correct - it says :
You currently cannot hide purchases on devices using iOS 6.
You should still be able to hide ibooks via your computer's iTunes, and they shouldn't then appear in the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app (if you don't want ibooks that are in the cloud to show on the bookshelf in iBooks then set Settings > iBooks > Show All Purchases 'off' - hiding doesn't hide them from that, only from the Purchased tab).

well, i cant get software update, because after i installed mac os x combined
my safari closes unexpectedly. i couldnt solve this. if anyone has any idea, that would be great. thx guys

I too cannot update my software 10.4. the software update in the menu keeps quitting. I have checked the support site and I found a tip on this matter concerning network port configurations. I did the advised to turn the ethernet on. but it has No result. I also tried going through the system preference pane but also no luck here.
I have a download for 10.4.6 but it won't install because of not enough memory. It says it requires 488 MB. (it took me 7 hours o download this..here in greece we still use pigeons
What do I do to get this free space? on RAM? What do I have to take off to get this free space? My Applications? There are no documents or files of any other other kind on the iBook yet as the computer has been totally cleaned up while in service for a new HD.
*--(Under 10.3.3 it kept quitting application and in the end couldn't start them up either, or they would start but wouldn't show any windows, the menu's would't work. Sound familiar to anyone? There is more horrifying stuff to tell with this problem, but it is more fit for another topic).--*

I have a lot of memory so I don't understand.

Buying an iBook G3 [Please Help!!!]

I am considering buying this iBook G3 from this website

1. can I upgrade this OS to OS 10.3.9 (Panther) and it run with good speed?
2. are there any other better websites I can go to? [please don't tell me ebay because I have already
tryed and I don't plan on it again]
3. is this all around better than an iMac G3 (thats what I currently have)
4. can i watch videos and meet the basic needs of a highschool student?
5. is a 100 Mhz difference that big of a deal? (I might get a different model than the other)

2. go to lowendmac.com and click on deals. select ibooks and you'll find a list of resellers. (i've bought 3 apple laptops off ebay and have been satisfied with all 3. you've really got to chose your sellers carefully and be patient.)
3. well now i'm sure an ibook 500 is better than an imac 266 and worse than a imac700. a lot of changes were made to the imac g3's during its run and you didn't mention which model you have.
4 & 5. when apple went to the 600mhz model they upgraded the vram. that will make a difference in watching videos. anything greater than 600 and you will have a greater chance of having logic board problems.
6. personally i would not buy any older laptop without the software restore discs. call (yes, telephone) and ask about the discs. my personal opinion is that a 600 somehow hits the sweet spot. good luck.

Need to update software - Help please? :/

I know that this version is way out of date because I bought it years ago, and have never updated it.
I think the current version is now 7.20 or something like that. Don't quote me on it
Anyways, when I run the Software Update through OVI Suite, it just says that my current software
is up to date. I read somewhere that this phone is supposed to have WLAN settings, and mine has
no such thing. So I can't check for updates via my phone, considering I cannot access the internet.
Is there any way that I can download the newest version through my PC and update my phone manually?
I don't know if I'm missing something here, and I just sound stupid right now. But I would appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you.

In fact the latest version is v08.70
..but since the Nokia Suite doesn't show any availability and you don't have internet access thru' the phone there is nothing that you can do yourself.. You may ask your local Nokia care which can be found thru' this link whether they can help you.
BTW, Availability of update depends on Region / Product Code and also, for Network locked devices, update is possible only after an approval from the Operator ..

Iphoto not found in the bundled iBook G4 software

My hard drive broke and was replaced by Apple. They told me I would have to reinstall all the bundled software. The new hard drive came with 10.4.8 installed.
iLife was not included, though it was when I bought the computer in '05.
So I reinstalled (custom) from the disks that came with the iBook originally. I now have iDVD, but no iPhoto. Where could it be? I didn't see it in the list of programs that I could install when I put the disk in.
Any thoughts?

Try using Pacifist to search your original system install disk to see if you can find and install iPhoto. If your G4 came with iPhoto originally, it will be on those disks.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Trying to update iphone 4 and am missing driver software, help?

I cannot figure out how to update or reinstall the driver software for my phone. it asks for the disk and i do not have the disk nor can the program find it online. can anyone help?

Uninstatll iTunes. Restart your computer. Reinstall iTunes.

My ibook is dying, help!

well my ibook froze the other day, so i was forced to do a hard shutdown. when i tried to bring it back up, it wouldn't get past the gray apple startup screen. since then, i have been using target disk mode to try to recover the data (i just bought a 250 gig drive for backup, no backups performed). anyway... i can get the drive to mount and show up in finder... however, after accessing the drive for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes finder, or whatever is accessing the drive, locks up. this includes: disk utility, dd_rhelp, data rescue ii, super duper, and some more i probably forgot about already. when i plug in the drive, i can sometimes get to the directories and so i have been able to save a few photos. when everything hangs, i have to pull the firewire cord and then the host computer (my powerbook g4) comes back from the hang and i try to mount the drive again...
any help for me? any tricks to get this drive working long enough to get some more data off of it?

Were you able to use the Disk Utility in your PowerBook in 10.4.7, to see
and 'repair disk' in the iBook, when connected by FireWire cable? [Forget
about verifying anything when your best hope is to pry a few repairs out
of the iBook's messed up hard drive, and any chance at repairing it just
enough to get that much more out, is not what verify can do.]
You can hardware troubleshoot the iBook's other hardware by installing
a new OSX version into an external FireWire hard drive (bootable extern-
nally enclosed drive) and if you have third party disk utilities, install them
onto the external as well. If you partition the external Firewire drive, you'd
then be able to have more than one OSX system on it; one per partition.
That means, your external drive would be also ready for use with your
PowerBook; backing up the drive or making a complete clone of the
entire hard drive is great medicine; if done before a failure. As in the
iBook's situation, if you could've gotten all the good stuff off that Book's
drive, then get the machine to boot from the OSX installer disc#1, and
get it to boot into Disk Utility, those utilities (zero data option) and re-
formatting to HFS+ could at least be assured if any minor drive errors
were there, they'd be 'written over by zeros' this way. A fresh start.
With a one year old iBook (close to or past the anniversary?) the ticket
would be (or would've been) to get the extended AppleCare protection.
Could be just a hard drive... Best of luck in this adventure.

Firewire transfer problems on brand new Ibook...HELP

I just fired up my new Ibook for the first time. One of the first thing it asks is weather you want to retreive your info from your old computer. I said yes. I attached the firewire from my new Ibook to my old G3 b/w computer. I held down the "T" as it asked and then waited for the "firewire logo" to appear on my old computer screen. Well, it never did. I restarted and held down the "T" again. Still nothing. I really need all my info off the old computer. Could my firewire its self be bad? Am I doing something wrong? HELP.
A follow up question will be , once I get the "firewire" logo on my screen, how do I transfer the address book, etc.

If the Blue & White G3 has Mac OS X 10.1 or newer, you could use an application like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone all of your files to an external FireWire hard drive. You could then attach the FireWire hard drive to your new iBook and transfer your files. You do not have to transfer all your files the very first time you startup your new Mac. Take a look at Knowledge Base Article #25773.
The iBook does not require a "crossover" Ethernet cable if you're going to transfer files between it and another computer. Check out Knowledge Base Article #42717.

My Touchsmart Tiles do not work. I can't find the software - Help!

All of a sudden, I can't open Touchsmart to use my tiles. All the Icon does is open - but the tiles won't work. I think the software might be gone. What can I do.

Try downloading the following driver for your Touchsmart:

Install that and let me know if it helps.

Welcome to the discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
Look for Quicken 2005 in your Applications folder. Quicken has also been bundled with the 'consumer' Macs since the Performa series (mid 1990s) or earlier, but I don't know if it is included in the 'professional' machines (such as your PowerBook.)
If not, check the Made4Mac software guide on this site. Click the  tab above, then the Made4Mac link in the bar below the tabs. Click Home and Recreation in the menu on the left, then the Accounting and Finance radio button in the list. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Find Software.
