IBook G4 that's connected to wifi but not connected to Internet

I Have a later 2005 model iBook G4 running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. I am able to connect to my home WiFi network but not able to connect to the internet. How do I fix this?

The iBook is Capable of 802.11g/n/b using Airport Extreme
Airport Extreme did not get 'n' coverage until late 2006, on Core2Duo and Xeon Macs.    The iBook is not one of those Macs.
If you are using 802.11n connections on your Qwest that will be a problem for the iBook.  You need to make it is set for  802.11g/n network.
Qwest was taken over by CenturyLink, and the configuration setup is here:

  • Connect to wifi but not connected?

I just got my new ipod 4th gen 1 week ago and it connected to my internet just fine, but ever since yesterday it's been acting up. My ipod says it's connected to my wifi but when I go to use safari or apps it tell me that it needs to be connect to the internet. I've read through some questions and answers of other people on here, I've followed their steps on resetting my network settings but it's still doing the same thing. Is there any other way to get reconnected to the internet?

    - Did you reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • I can connect to WiFi but not the internet

I am trying to connect a new IPad 2.  I have a Belkin router that is B+G+N.  I use WPA2 encryption and MAC filtering.  The IPAD's MAC address was entered into the router and when I provide the encryption key as the password I am able to connect to WiFi but not anything Internet related except for email.  When I type any URL in Safari it takes me to my router's management page.  In fact I can log into my router and manage it from my IPad but I can't connect to anything else.  I have 8 other computers/devices that connect to the router fine including two Apple Ipod touch's.  This has me baffled.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • HT1595 When I connect with my wifi it comes up as connected to wifi but not the Internet and all my other devices work except the Apple TV and I'm not sure what to do

At first my Apple TV was stuck so I unplugged it and re plugged it so everything disappeared all my apps everything then when I tried hooking up to my Internet it said connected to wifi but cannot connect to the Internet so I'm not sure what that means or how to fix it

    GH
When you say everything disappeared do you still have Computers and Settings icons?  Try rebooting the router  and apple tv with all cables out for 30 seconds.  Does it work eathernet connected if you can try that too?

  • TS3972 My Apple TV connects to the wifi but not to the internet.

My Apple TV connects to the wifi but not to the internet. Currently using a D-Link Router and Shaw Cable in BC Canada.
Apple says "Connections through proxy servers are not supported". Would that be Shaw? How can I update the ATV
software without connecting to a TV and the internet? Can I connect it to my MacBook Pro? ATV worked very well in Arizona
using CenturyLink as an ISP provider and their modem/router. ATV software is 5.0.

What happens when you try to connect? I would contact your ISP

  • My computer will connect to wifi but not the Internet

My computer will connect to wifi but not the Internet. It's not a problem with my router because I've tried other devices on the same router and they work. I have also tried my computer on other routers and there is still no Internet connection. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hello Bmowat,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are able to successfully connect to your Wifi network, but cannot get internet access.
I found this article for you named Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US
This section in particular since you have Mountain Lion installed:
OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 or later
Use the Wireless Diagnostics application included with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 and later to identify and resolve Wi-Fi issues. For further information, please see About Wireless Diagnostics.
It is a built in troubleshooting tool to help diagnose and repair network issues and should help you resolve this issue.
    All the very best,

Our IPod connects to the WIFI, but not to the internet.  We have a wireless router which we connect our MACBOOK to the internet and our IPod.  The MACBOOK works fine, but not the IPod.  It shows to be connected to WIFI, but whenever we try to connect to an internet site i.e. Sarfari, we get an message "Safari cannot open the page becuase it is not connected to the internet".  We have tried rebooting, but it has not helped.

    Try:

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.
10.5/10.6 instructions, System Preferences>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.

  • When i try to connect my iPhone 4S into iTunes through wifi or USB it will not connect the other thing  is when i hook up my iPad into iTunes it will connect through wifi but not USB? Now is this a issue with my iPad and iPhone or is this iTunes?

When i bought my iPhone and my iPad they both were on iOS 7.0.2 i updated them shortly after thinking the new iOS 7.0.4 was better. i see its not but they both worked great with iTunes before and after the update. My question is why is my iPhone not connecting to iTunes? it will not connect through USB or wifi and i know that the setting to do that is turned on. my iPad connects through iTunes through wifi but not USB. This isnt making any sense but i wanna know is this a iTunes issue? or is it my phone and iPad??

This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable.  Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

  • Wii U connects to WiFi but not Internet

hello on July 30th 2015 my Nintendo Wii U stopped being able to log on to Amazon's App and the Nintendo e store or get an Internet connection of any kind. It does connect to the Wi-Fi network and continues to each and every time I try to make a connection and put in the password. However when it runs its test it shows that it connects to the modem but not to the Internet. all other devices cell phones laptops excetra have no trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi and the Internet through the Wi-Fi connection.

    Hi ,
I am sorry about the issues you are having connecting your Wii, but I will be glad to help. If you have not done so already, try rebooting your U-verse gateway by unplugging the power and plugging it back.
If still not working, another thing that other Wii users reported was setting up the connection again, but on a different connection slot. Users made the same settings with connection 3, and it came right up.
    Hope this helps.

I assume this is not a network you have in your house, but some other network. Problem is you are not actually connected to the internet, even though you are connected to the router. There is a proxy server, or some other authentication required. For some free hotspots (Panera, local library, etc.) you need to open Safari and go to a "common" url, e.g. google.com or cnn.com, and you'll be redirected to a page where you accept the providers terms of use, then you are online. Paid hotspots (hotels, Starbucks) also work like that - you are redirected to a page to enter payment info. If there's a proxy server needed and you don't know the server info, or if other authentication is required and you don't have it, you can't use that hotspot.

    Hello,
    Tap Settings > Wi Fi
Click the blue circle with the white arrow in it after the name of your network
Does your iPod's IP address begin with 169?
If so, your iPod is not receiving a valid IP address from your router. Even though you have other devices/computers connected to your network, try power cycling your router and resetting the iPod's network settings, in this order:
    1. Turn of the router
    2. On the iPod: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    3. While the iPod restarts itself, turn the router back on
    4. Once the router's normal lights return, navigate to Settings > Wi Fi on the iPod and attempt to reconnect to your network
    5. Once the network indicates you are connected, see if you can use any of your applications that use the Wi Fi connection

I did as mentioned above, and I reconnected. It says that I have my wifi connection back, but still won't load pages. I went back to see what the ip address was and it is still showing 169...
I was at my dad's house & I am able to log onto his wifi no problem, and his ip address is different. What else can i do? I would really love to get this itouch up & running. once again thank you!!

    hey guys
i had the same problem all yesterday.. This is what i did:
    go to wifi
connect to the network that wont work. then click the blue arrow that does preferences.. and then click Forget network..
then turn off your wifi, turn it back on, and connect to the network again (you'll have to re-enter your password, if its passworded) and it should work.. this may not work for all of you but it worked for me

Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

  • Can connect to wifi but not to Internet

I had the problem that iPad2 suddenly could connect to wifi, and to 3G for that matter, but got an error trying to acces the Internet (from Safari or mail).
Tried for hours all the advice foud here and other places, like resetting this and that.
I had a feeling that it was something blocking on the iPad, not a router problem - all other devices could connect to Internet.
The solution: I had disconnected Dropbox! - Connecting to Dropbox again solved all problems. Now it's even possible to disconnect to Dropbox without getting problems with Internet access.
The lesson learned from this: apps can hang up Internet-connection, though they are not even using it!
