IBook G4 -WiFi

I have revived an iBook G4.  I have attempted to connect to my WiFi and it appears it does not.
Thus, I am unable to browse or get to the internet.
Is it my WiFi protocol?
Can I replace the AirPort Card?
Any other suggestions or details so I may arrive at a resolution?

Please tell us the version of the Mac OS that is on the iBook. Can make a big difference in troubleshooting.

  • Bad iBook G4 WiFi reception after hard-drive swap

I just replaced the hard drive in my iBook G4 with a larger one. Everything works fine except that the WiFi only works in close proximity to our Airport Extreme Router. Our other 2 current Macs and our 2 iPhones continue to have good WiFi connections. The iBook G4 had good WiFi reception before I changed out the hard drive. The stock Airport Extreme antenna connector is well-seated, and the plug and jack look fine. I disassembled the iBook and traced the antenna wiring to see I could spot any anaomolies.

    Thanks, Ronda!
I just swapped the Apple M8881LL/A AirPort Extreme Card in my Power Mac G5 and my iBook G4. Both cards work perfectly in the G5. The "new" card works a little better in the iBook G4, but not anywhere near its performance in the G5 or the original AirPort card in the iBook before the hard-drive swap.
The antenna was treated with great care in the disassemblies, so I don't think it was damaged from that. What does the antenna connect to inside the iBook? Could it be that it's not making contact on one of the shields?
    Any help is much appreciated!

  • IBook G4 WiFi range suddenly decreased?!

My iBook G4 has decreased wifi range all of a sudden. any ideas as to why this would be happening? is the airport card dying? any help is good help!

Well then, there's a very good chance the antenna isn't connected all the way which would explain getting a signal, but a weak one. When you push the antenna on, it HAS to click twice. Since it happened to me, I know it's easy to assume that it is connected properly, but click one more time with a little force, or take it off and start over. 2 clicks.

  • No Ibooks without WiFi

This is upsetting. Maybe it is just because I am in Afghanistan, but WiFi is a luxury and is difficult at best to find a signal and if you do, it is overloaded and it is impossible to download items. Why can't there be a way to purchase Ibooks at the ITunes store and sync with your Ipad?

    Hi and welcome.
Hopefully this will work for you.
    You need an internet connection.
Launch iTunes. Select *iTunes Store* on the left side of the iTunes window.
Click and hold down App Store from the menu then click Books.
If you can purchase or download a free book then just connect your iPad and sync as you normally would.

  • IBook clamshell wifi problems

I have an iBook clamshell and it has an airport card in it, but it won't let me connect to my home cable modem 802.11n, I entered the password and it always pops up with an error message, what should I do to fix this?

Do you have other computers in the house using that modem?  To acces it, you need to do it by way of ethernet. The IP address you use in your brouser is192.168.0.1  The user id is admin and the password is motorola. If your provider won't help, google the name and model number of the  modem and setup guide to download a guide.

  • IBooks drains battery when not connected to Wifi

Since the release of Yosemite, there is a bug in iBooks that causes it to drain the battery on my MacBook Pro.  Here are the repro steps:
    1. Turn Wifi off.
    2. Launch iBooks
    3. Wait a few seconds.
Observed behavior:  The laptop gets really hot and the projected battery life remaining goes way down.
Looking at Activity monitor, there is a process called storeaccountd that has pegged the CPU at about 100% and it stays there as long as iBooks is open.  If I connect Wifi or quit iBooks, the problem goes away.  I discovered this when I tried to read a book in iBooks while on an 8 hour flight.  iBooks was pretty much useless because I didn't have a Wifi connection.
There's another thread in the Yosemite section where others have also confirmed the problem:
iBooks runs "storeaccountd" process that runs CPU at 100% and drain battery

Same problem here in Vienna. I can count down the battery percentage on my MBA11 mid2013, while ibook tries to connect somewhere.
I tried it with updates, but this annoying behavior still continues.
Really disappointed by apple, I will swap to another program to read my books.
I tried also following steps from another forum post, and this helped until now:
reset PRAM by real restarting the mac and pressing option+cmd+"p"+"r" twice
--this brings some settings to factory - don't wipe your hardest here! just restart again.
delete plist in your terminal (launchpad/others/terminal) by following two inputs:
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    killall Dock
I can not find the original post now, but I thank here for the person, who gave this temporary solution.
    OS-X 10.10.1 MBA-11 Mid 2013
power with safari on (now): 527mA
now turning ibooks on (wifi on): 895mA and back to 629mA
now closing ibooks / turning wifi off and turning ibooks on: 621-->454mA (552 to 777 with wlan on again)

  • Cant send Email when using WIFI

My primary internet connection is my G4 and a 24.4K dial up. I bought a Dual USB port iBook with 10.4.11 to take to the local library download large files I am sometimes sent.
The iBook connects normally on the WIFI, I can browse and work web sites. I can also down load and read my mail with no problems. Today was the first time I have tried to send email from the iBook on WIFI. The connection to the SMTP server failed. I got a message that said the Greeting sent by the SMTP server was not proper.
With the same iBook on my 24.4K dial up, I can send and receive email normally. I am also using Firefox and Thunderbird.
Is there something I may have missed in set up for the WIFI outgoing email.
    Thank You
    Paul

Bounce is when you try to send an email by connecting to their servers when not connected to their network. Many ISPs do not allow you to send unless you are connected to their network directly. That sounds like what is happening here, using the webmail is a good workaround for that.
PS, sorry for the delay on the reply, moving is NO fun! Glad to see you found a way around!

  • IBook connects to 'net, but MacBook won't

I have an iBook G4 (wife's Mac) and a newer Macbook. Both connect to the 'net via a wireless router (D-link DIR-615). This morning, for no apparent reason, I suddenly was unable to connect to the web on my Macbook. The iBook connects with no problem. I tried restarting the Mac, the cable modem and the router, but that didn't work.
When I run diagnostics, it gives me a 'green light' for Airport, Aiport Settings, and Network Settings, but says the ISP failed. When I plug into the ethernet port from the router, it still doesn't work! The only way I can connect is if I unplug the router altogether and plug in the ethernet directly from the modem to the Macbook. Any tips??

No responses yet, so I'm just adding this info in case it helps someone figure out what my issue might be.
I brought my Mac to work and was able to connect to the wireless network w/ no problem. I'll take it home tonight to see if that someone resolved this mysterious issue, but I'm not counting on it...

  • IBook froze during download and will not open?

    Hi,
I bought a book from iBooks and it never downloaded.
The book is now frozen and will not open.
I downloaded the iBook via wifi, that was on maximum strength.
This has never happened before I bought over 40 iBooks.
    I have tried: -
    1. Deleting iBooks and reinstalling iBooks still frozen
    2. I have tried resetting (holding home button and sleep bottom)
    3. Signing out of iTunes account on my iPad and signing back in still frozen
I am reluctant to restore my iPad as I have several books that I have downloaded from ebook stores that are now closed and therefore i cannot replace them.
Any ideas, I would be grateful. x

  • Do I need an Airport card, too?

I have a flat panel iMac without an airport card connected to the internet via Ethernet with a 2Wire router. I have an iBook with an airport card.
So .... my iBook connects to my 2Wire network via airport, but I can't get on the Internet and even though file sharing is on on my iMac, I can't seem to access my iMac files.
Is this because I don't have an airport card in my iMac? I thought the wireless router would act as an airport card, but maybe I was wrong! If I do need an airport card for my iMac, where would I find one besides eBay?

    Hi,
More things to help anybody else--what OS-X are you using, what version Flat Panel iMac, PPC or Intel, same with your iBook, my wife has a 2001 and they made them up untill recently.
You were right the first time, you won't see Airport because you don't have a card plugged in, the router is now your "Airport" card via ethernet. The computer doesn't see it so it won't bring it up. The same thing happened with my Blue Tooth. One less button to confuse me with i say.
Try looking at your TCP/IP settings on your iMac and see if their the same as your iBook. They should be identical except for the last 2 or 3 numbers at the end of the "IP Address:". Those are assigned by the router to each different computer. So depending on the router both computers should only be 1 or 2 of from each other.
You might try just making another Location and starting over and see what happens. Or if you have another Account boot into it and see if you are having the same problem.
At the very least Boot into your Startup Disk in "OS-10.xx whatever" and repair Permissions. You should boot into it before and after you update anyway.
One other thing, does your computer automatically log in or do you have to type in the passwords and network name because you might be logged into you neighbors network instead. I can go to a wireless motel or truck stop or rest area and there might be a half dozen networks showing and i can connect to half of them (no password needed) but i can't get on the internet.(password needed). Just a thought.
This is a very long shot but what the hey,
I've heard the last few updates in 10.4.x and 10.5.x have been giving every one fits so just for the heck of it, if your not using it as Admin, take a look in your "Accounts" under "Preferences" and click on" Parental Controls" and see if it defauted back. It's a shot in the dark but i've heard of odder things happening.
    Good luck

  • Reverse DUN for a Treo 700p

I am not an advanced user.
I have a Treo 700p without a data plan and was interested in learning how to use my iBook's Wifi connection with BlueTooth to permit the Treo to use the internet. I did some searching and came across a number of threads that all ended up pointing to this item http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031117142051675&query=bluetoothshareinternet
Since it is from 2003 and I am using Mac OSX 10.4.8, I imagine that some of the tips are not applicable. To start out, I can't find "bluetooth serial utility" I was wondering if there was something a little bit less confusing to help walk me through the process.
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Clearly, the easiest and most reliable way to engage in what is termed 'internet sharing' via Bluetooth—where a wireless or terrestrially-connected Mac OS X computer is used to enable a Bluetooth equipped Palm handheld organizer or smartphone is to install the Missing Sync for Palm OS, which includes support for internet sharing:

  • Networked hard drive and "you do not have sufficient privileges..."...??

Hi. Our set-up is as follows:
iMac 17" 'Igloo' ethernet to Belkin wifi router>ADSL
External Prolific 120gb HD (2 partitions, one is clone of iBook, the other is miscellaneous 'Saves'.) - firewire to iMac.
    iBook wifi to Belkin.
iUse iBook, 'erUse 'erMac. (Don't ask, 'er doesn't like 'notebooks'. Suits me I prefer the iBook. The lack of 'real estate' bugs me sometimes, but you can't have everything...)
No problems networking to iMac or External HD, either or both partitions, from iBook via wifi.
    Here's the rub...
If, from the iBook, I try to 'tidy up' files on the miscellaneous 'Saves' partition of the external (which is connected to the iMac, remember...?) by moving them from one folder to another, I get an authentication box. I enter PW, hit 'Enter' and get another box saying:
"The operation could not be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
So I dash over to the iMac, push 'er out of the way, change Ownership & Permissions to 'Ade' as opposed to 'Jenny', click 'Apply to enclosed items', OK the warning, dash back over to the iBook, (12 ft or so) and still only get 'Read only' access to enclosed items. If I tediously go through every subfolder & file using the iMac I can get control from the iBook, but surely it doesn't have to be like this?
Please, can someone point me in the right direction here?
If I connect the X HD directly to the iBook, none of the above problems occur. Because of our domestic setup, however, it is 'neater' to have the X HD stashed under the iMac's (or 'er) desk.
    Thanks in advance.
    Adrian

In order to setup sharepoints with better permissions you should try out sharepoints.
You can then setup your shared folder to inherit permission from parent. Then anyone associated to the group that folder belongs to should have no problem moving and deleting files.

  • Embedded image in SVG doesn't show up in An, but opens in browser.

I feel stupid cause it seems nobody else has this problem:)
I've exported svg file from Illustrator, some graphics and embedded .jpg image, but when i open the svg file in Edge i can see only graphics , the image layer is there but i can't see the image itself.
But when i open it in browser everything is there - graphics and the image.
Why can't i see the embedded image on Edge stage?

I have an iBook, and WiFi doesn't show up as an option in my network folder.
Do you mean that the AirPort network port does not appear, and is enabled, in System Preferences > Network?

  • Can't connect to PC server from Mac after PC is put behind switch.NE ideas?

After adding a switch in my network i bumped into some network trouble.
    Here's my new setup:
    Airport Extreme
    iBook via WIFI
    Airport Express - LAN cable - SWITCH - PC/XBOX360/PS2
All computers have internet access, i can access PC via VNC on my iBook, but connecting to server on my PC (win XP) on iBook is not possible anymore
I used to have this set up:
    Airport Extreme
    iBook via WIFI
Airport Express - LAN cable - PC
Here I had no trouble at all.
Any hints and suggestions are highly appreciated.

Resetted all devices and now it's up and running again. Solved
