IBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11 running iTunes 10.7?

I have an old iBook running OS X 10.4.11.  I just bought an Ipod nano (7th gen) to program and give to someone.  When I plug it in it says I need iTunes 10.7.
A.  will iTunes 10.7 work on my iBook with OS X 10.4.11?, and B. if it does, and I download it, will my 2 year old iPod classic still work with the iBook and the new iTunes?

No, it won't. iTunes 10.7 requires Mac OS X 10.6.8, which requires an Intel Mac.
If it matters, iTunes 10.7 supports the older iPods as well.

Cant get my iphone 5 to sync with my computer (new operating system). Am running XP through a virtual box. When I try to sync the phone it keeps asking for auto lock code, there is no box to type it into and I can find nothing on the phone itself to solve the problem.
This makes it impossibble to sync with my itunes account. Anyone out there able to help ?

Have you tried contactint the app's developer?

  • Hi my 3rd gen iPod nano is not connecting to iTunes - the error message says there is missing software to communicate with the device. I am running iTunes 10.4 on XP and I have tried all the troubleshooting routes to no avail - anybody help me out?

I can't get Itunes to communicate with my 3rd gen Nano - I've reinstalled iTunes several times but still get the same error message for both mine and my wife's ipod - same version of 3rd gen. All the troubleshooting guide has been followed but still not connecting.
    Any ideas?

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • Running iTunes 10.5.3.3 - On my device there are podcast headers with no podcasts in them and I cannot seem to delete them. How can I get rid of these empty podcast subscriptions?

I have a Classic iPod with current software and I am running iTunes 10.5.3.3. On my device there are Podcast subscriptions but all of the podcasts have been deleted from them. Is there a way to get rid of the header (i.e. the Podcast subscription title)?

This has happened to a number of users lately.  Usually the only way to remove them to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • How to update my ibook G4 with out itunes

how to update my ibook G4 with out itunes

Your question begs more questions before an answer...
What are you trying to upgrade, and why would you try to use iTunes
in a vintage G4 computer that cannot run an OS X later than 10.5.8
at best? (and only if it has a processor at least 867MHz or better)
With at least a 1.0GHz iBook G4 you could run Leopard 10.5.8, and
the system requires a retail DVD to install the 10.5, then go online
after installation, to get the Combo 10.5.8 update, by use of Software
Update within that first earlier system...
If the computer does not have at least the minimum processor, it would
not be able to see Leopard as a system, so Tiger 10.4.11 is the last...
    http://www.apple.com/support/leopard/
iTunes does not upgrade or update much of anything in an obsolete &/
or vintage Mac OS X before the Intel-Mac era, and prior to OS X 10.6.8.
If your computer does not have an iTunes version at all, you can go to
Apple support downloads and look at older iTunes, and older safari,
and some other bits that are limited to their respective vintage OS X.
Usually the upgrade path utilizes DVD media or CD media, for software
& depending on what kind of software, then later get update-downloads.
To see if there may be anything not already installed in the system or
applications that could exist in the Apple support download servers,
you could see if the System's own Software Update, located in Apple
Menu in upper left side of the menu bar in Finder, can locate some.
If you perform a new install and did not save all the bits as downloaded
from when they were more current, some updates to original media that
formerly were online and available as download (step updates, not full
upgrades) you may eventually be unable to upgrade then update an older
OS X system; the remainder of the later or last fixes were in the update.
So, if you have an old G4 PowerPC Mac computer running, say Tiger 10.4.3
and thought to use some software intended to run in Tiger 10.4.11, then
you'd have to see if Software Update could find the 10.4.11 Combo update.
After updating the main system, other applications may also see a need to
be updated, if they were not already as far as they could go, in their vintage.
iPhoto, and other applications, such as they were, had updates to their main
application. So with iTunes, the last version that can work in a PPC G4/G5
non-intel would be in the last supported OS X, Leopard 10.5.8, and that
version number is iTunes 10.6.3; so you can't visit an App Store or Mac App
Store nor can you run Snow Leopard on a PowerPC architecture Mac.
With the intel-based Mac, and Snow Leopard, you can access the online
Stores to include recent Mac Apps, App Store, iTunes Store, etc. A light
version of early iTunes (see iTunes Player) can be seen, and their Radio
still plays free music channels. I have several older pre-Intel Macs...
The matter involves the vintage of the device, the system, and limits of the
old vintage/obsoleted configurations where both are interdependent.
Not sure if this helps, but more of a history lesson may be read if you look
into everymac.com and compare models, build years, and other specs...
If you need some feature or function not supported by vintage hardware or
vintage software, or a newer web browser, you have to look further. A fair
browser can be found in TenFourFox. I use it daily in a PPC G4 MINI 1.5GHz.
with Leopard 10.5.8. Plus others. To go further, look into an Intel-based Mac
such as MacBook2.1 & then buy the Snow Leopard retail DVD for about $20.
    Hopefully this helps somewhat...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I am currently using Firefox Version 1.5.0.12 on my iBook G4 with Mac OS X Version 10.3.9. I have problems using Facebook. What can I do?

I am currently using Firefox Version 1.5.0.12 on my iBook G4 with Mac OS X Version 10.3.9. I have problems using Facebook. I cannot confirm friend requests or view messages in the inbox for instance. What can I do?
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://facebook.com

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever release for Mac OSX 10.3.9 and earlier versions, but that may not work any better because some large websites are blocking those older browsers or dropping support for older browsers like IE6 & earlier, and Firefox 2 & earlier due to security issues.
Using Safari on those websites ''(not enough total users for websites to be concerned about)'', or installing a new version of MacOSX are two solutions; or getting a new computer.

  • I was given an iBook G4 with the hard drive erased. Is there a free reformat/reboot download available?

I was given an iBook g4 with the hard drive erased. A local Mac tech stated the unit could be reformatted online.  I've not been able to find anything to help. Is there a downloadable program?

You should be able to gain a clue if the sticker with the serial number on it remains intact.
Check out the Apple Knowledge Base article on How to find the Serial Number for that information.
Is there any other path to pursue other than paying bucks to have a local Mac Tech restore it?
Yes, but you will need the Install and Restore discs.
Can another Mac cink with it to retrieve this data?
There is no data to "retrieve," since the hard drive has been erased. What you need is an installation and restoration of the operating system and original applications. This is accomplished with either a compatible full retail install disc (or discs) or the original Install and Restore discs. We are right back to needing to know which exact model it is in order to advise you further.

  • Replacing my iBook G4 with Airbook

I'm finally replacing my iBook G4 with an Air
Seeking recommendations from community as to product and options ( memory, graphics, etc) for me:
    Attributes I would like
    1. Small design ( small screen ok)
    2. Residential work - email, up to 10 websites open and operating
    3. Light video - YouTube, etc.
    4. No Gaming
    5. Family pictures/video (rare)
    6. Travel - so battery life important =7 hours plus
    7. Some hobby business accounting application - Quickin Quickbooks
    8. Using Airport Express Wireless in home
    Pretty simple use.

I would reccomend the MacBook Air 11 inch. It's a great option if you're not planning on doing things that take up tons of memory. The screen is nice, and it has plenty of memory for the average computer user. Very portable, too.

  • IBook G4 with OSX10.5.8 suddenly won't access Facebook.

In the past several days, my ability to access Facebook has failed. The response is always to the effect that FB unexpectedly dropped the connection while trying to connect. I normally go to FB from messages received in my Yahoo mailbox. I have even tried accessing FB by typing their URL directly.
I used a Microsoft computer today and FB loaded just right, no change in operation.
I see others have had problems with FB using Apple computers. Mine is an iBook G4 with OSX 10.5.8, totally up to date.
    My ISP is Qwest.
Several people have mentioned some kind of app available from the store? That seems to relate to iPads and iPhones.
Can anyone help? I have been assisted wonderfully in the past on here and hope so again.
    Thanks.

    Hello douginrrnm,
which Adobe Flash Player do you use? I don't use
flash player nor Facebook yet can understand why
many people like them. The current flash player is at
v10.3. The max a PowerPC Mac can use is v10.1.
v10.2 and v10.3 require an intel Mac.
If you do not have v10.1 here is a link to Adobe
so that you can uninstall your current version and
    install the archived v10.1.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
Remember to use disk utilities to verify disc and
to repair permissions before and after each
    uninstall/install.
If you already have v10.1 hope someone else can help.
    Good Luck,
    A

  • Has anyone been able to upload an ibooks file with audio only files (m4a) in it? I keep getting the following error message during the upload in iTunes Producer: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets.

Has anyone been able to upload an ibooks file with audio only files (m4a) in it? I keep getting the following error message during the upload in iTunes Producer: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets. then it names the file as an m4p file. Everything works beautifully on the iPad through Preview, and validates through iTunes Producer up until the attempted upload. If you've been able to accomplish this, please let me know how you prepared your audio files. Many thanks.

    Hello Fellow iBook Authors!
Today I received the same error that you all have been discussing.  I tried selecting the DRM
and this did not work for me, though I'm glad it did for some.  Here's what I did as a work-around. . .
Since iBooks Author did not have a problem with Videos, I simply used one of my video programs, ScreenFlow to turn the audio into a video file m4v.  I added an image and extended the length or timing of the image to span the length of the audio file.  Then exported as an .mov.  I then opened QuickTime and opened the file and exported the file to iTunes.
You can use iMovie, Camtasia or any other progam that will allow you to export the audio as a movie file.  Does this make sense?  I hope this helps, at least in the short-term.

Gray screen when turning on iBook G4 with tiny file folder in center of screen blinking finder icon and question mark.  I cannot figure this out.  Tried everything I know.  Can someone help please???

    Hello,
Ideally you need to boot from the disk as you have no other media advisable. (e.g your hard drive)
Without some form of system disk or restore you wont be able to diagnose the problem with your hard drive.
By using a Mac OS X system disk you can load up the Disk Utilities and repair the hard drive if shown it's available. If it's not available you would need to replace the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS. Without any disk to support you, you are going to struggle.
You can obtain replacement disk, both retail copies or system disk on the Internet.
If you know what version of Mac OS X you had install (I'm guessing that it would have been 10.3, but would recommend 10.4) A retail disk is normally black with a colored 'X' on it, while system disk are always.
Always try and obtain a copy of the system restore disks (Gray) for your iBook
Ebay is another outlet that has genuine system disk for sell, but like any auction site, it's as and when someone is selling them.
The only other thing you could do is take it to a Apple repair agent who could check the hard drive on your behalf. That way you can get confirmation if the problem is the drive or some other fault. They may even help restore the OS for you.
I can't think of anything else to try without some form of disk to help you.
There maybe just one other small thing you could try.
When booting up, firmly rest your palm of your hand on the iBook next to the tracker pad on the left side.
If it works then it's another fault that I'm aware of.

  • IBookstore soon not accepting ibooks made with IBA 2.0?

When delivering my first iBook via itunes Producer, I got a warning letting me know that the iBookstore would 'soon' be not accepting ibooks made with ibooks author 2.0 - does anyone know when that is exactly? I have one more book built using this version so trying to get it done asap...

This would truly make a good piece to submit as IBA feedback. (To improve the chances of it being read to the end, I would recommend to remove the judgemental parts of the piece and trim it down to the bare facts before submitting.)
Not that I don't agree with the judgemental parts

  • Connecting ibook g4 with third-party wireless network

i've got a ibook g4 with an airport extreme card that i'm trying to connect to a third-party wireless network. When i am right beside the router, it works at about 75%, but I walk 15 feet away and the signal is totally gone. the computer the router is hooked up to is a PC, and so are the other three computers in the house that access the wireless network. The PC's are all further away from the router, yet they can still get a basic signal. Why is my mac not working with this and what can i do about it?
    router: d-link 802.11g/2.4Ghz
    my ibook: g4, 14", superdrive

You can verify that the antenna wire is properly attached to the AirPort Extreme card. See the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card.
