Suddenly found out that after I upgrade to iOS 6, my highlight and dictionary functions are gone! Now all I can find is only speak function, how to bring these highlight and dictionary tabs back to life? These two functions are of great help to me while using my iBook app. Thanks in advance!!

Okay, I got the problems patially fixed now!
Just searched the technic support web site and found troubl shootings, I took one the those suggestions: "power off and reboot" my device (which is my iPad 2) and after the procedure, the iBooks highlights and note, define founction works again. However, the speak function now can't work!!!
There are bugs!!! Apple, please help got rid of those annoying bugs ASAP!! It used to work perfectly in the previous versions of iBooks, my pleasant experience of using iPad 2 are being ruined, very sad!!!
I'd like to have speak function back with all the "copy, define, highlight, note, search, and share" functions all work seamlessly. just my simple wish!
And by the way, in the speak function, it is so stupid to ask user to select English or Chinese when I am in an pure Eglish book, can't iBooks recognize the words or sentance I've select are all English??? The iBooks 3.0.1 interface needs to be greatly improved! Don't let me down, Apple!!!

One possible reason is have you synced to your computer's iTunes recently ? If so then it might have replaced the books that were on your iPad with those that are on your computer's iTunes library.
You should be able to re-download them via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, or via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes and then sync them back to the iPad : re-downloading. If you re-download them directly on your iPad then you may want to copy them to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases, so that you have a backup copy of them and to see if it stops them disappearing from the iPad again when you sync (assuming that was the reason why they disappeard).

Tab bar has disappeared from view and from list of toolbars. How can I get it back?

I was fooling around with the toolbar options, trying (unsuccessfully!) to return to the toolbar layout I had before Firefox was automatically upgraded (without my permission!). I was trying to move the tabs bar down below the other toolbars. Suddenly it disappeared. Various web-suggested fixes involved going into Preferences or Options and doing things. I can't find anything called Preferences, and the option suggested for tabs (show tab bar) in Options doesn't exist in my options. I am very unhappy, not just because I can't find the tab bar, but because the new version messed up how I had my toolbars organized, and there seems to be no option for fixing it.

What method did you use to move the Tab bar?
Did you create a userChrome.css file in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

How do I restore lost highlights and notes to an iBooks book?

I have an epub book I am reading and it syncs between my MacBook and my iPad. In fact, this is one time I wish it didn't.
I had lots of notes and highlights. Somehow, while I was reading the book on my iPad, I did something that deleted all the notes and highlights. I closed the iPad and opened the book on the MacBook, but they apparently synced over iCloud and had been deleted from the MacBook copy as well.
I thought I could restore them from my Time Machine backup, but I have no idea what file to look for. Notes and highlights are evidently not stored in the ePub itself, so where are they stored? Or how else do I get them back?
(For what it's worth, the accidental deletion on the iPad went like this: I was reading... dragged my finger to turn a page... saw that gobs of text got highlighted instead... looked for a way to delete the accidental highlight... "Do you want to delete this note?" ... yes... all gone, and no undo function!!! Grrr!!!)

So I opened the files in TextWrangler to search for a word I know I highlighted in a particular book. That helped me identify the correct file for the book I am concerned with. I did a Time Machine restore of the file and got my notes back the way they were.

I have a deskjet 5940 that in the past when the print quality went down with lines or streaks accross the page I could go into the control panel, click on devices and printers, click on my printer and then you could click on service this device. That has disappeared recently and my printer is printing with streaks and the bottom of some letters cut off. How can I get that "service this device" tab back? I used to be able to service it then print a test page, you calibrate and other settings that are no longer possible.

By reinstalling do you mean that you deleted the app and redownloaded it ? Deleting an app will remove the app and its contents. Do you have copies of the PDFs in the Books part of your computer's iTunes library so that you can sync them back ?

How do I stop switching to a new tab when I highlight something and right click "search google"

So whenever a highlight a word and right click it to "Search Google for..." it switches to the new tab that just opened. How can I stop it? I've already tried going to Tools > Options > and disabling the thingie, but that only works for links that I open in new tabs. Not for the google searching.
So there any way to stop it?

Thanks - but I find it strange that so many options in Firefox that affect usability (sometimes it's the little things that matter) require us to ask in Mozilla Support, then find some hard-to-find setting in about:config!

TS1510 My iTunes song library is not synching with my iPod Shuffle.I go to the devices tab, and the snych link is gray and not highlighted. Does anybody know how I can transfer these songs onto my shuffle ?

I got a little Ipod shuffle as a stocking stuffer. I spent lots of money downloading songs to my library. My shuffle was plugged into my computer, and I thought my songs were being synched onto the shuffle. They were not. I returned to my iTunes account and went to devices, and the sync tab is not highlighted. It's gray. How can I download the songs in my library to my shuffle ?

Thanks for that information my friend. I KNOW THAT -- but that was one of only three options they require us to submit, and none match our/my issue under community help forum. I believe they should broaden that spectrum. My toolbars and even my Firefox tab keep disappearing. How do I get them back?

I have tried everything. Your chat does not answer me. I need help.
On your website the Firefox tab is at the top and my normal tool bar is at the bottom.
However, all the add-on toolbars, ie, Roboform and google and My Points are missing.
But, when I click on the web browser Firefox opens with NO toolbars top or bottom and NO Firefox tab. How do I fix this and stop it from happening again and again?

I did the same thing last night also with my MacBook Pro. None of my music, video or photos not taken originally on my iphone were reloaded back onto my phone. I received an error message instead. I had to just re-drag the music and videos that I wanted back to my iphone. As far as my photos taken on my iphone...by chance, I had just backed those up earlier that day. I'm not sure where the photos are that I had put on my iphone in the beginning...they still show up in people's contacts, but they no longer show up under photos - ? This is very frustrating!

How do I get a blank note to disappear and release my iBooks book?

I changed orientation before typing my note and can't change page, can't close book. Even after quitting iBooks with home button and restarting iBooks the book is still locked with the blank note displayed. When I changed orientation to landscape the keyboard disappeared then did not return when I changed orientation back to portrait. I'm trying a hard restart, but there should be an easier fix.

One other option is to close the app completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e.not with the iBooks app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iBooks app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
This may be what you mean by a hard restart, which I call a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

If you didn't do that yourself and nobody else has used the computer then an extension may have made that change.
I see in your list that you have some Norton extensions (toolbars) installed that could cause it, but others may do this as well.

One other thought: sometimes the file that stores toolbar customizations becomes corrupted. Since the file is hard to edit, you can rename it and customize from scratch. Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Leave that window open, switch back to a Firefox window, and Exit (e.g., File menu > Exit or Firefox menu > Exit)
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox. Hopefully now the tab bar will be back to normal.

My partner has spent countless hours highlighting and marking up a book my mother asked them to edit - only to accidentally delete all of the highlights and notes - thinking they had selected just a small set of notes to delete - but OH NO 16 pages disappeared - any chance they can get them back?

Well, you might think that. But you would be wrong.
I'm not aware of any unix OS with an undelete function at the filesystem level.
Such things don't tend to work well in a multiuser/server environment where lots of things are writing to the disk in the background.
And trying to guess what the filesystem used to look like is a good way to court random file system corruption.
