IBook in Spanish

I bought an iBook and it came in Spanish, not English. What to do?

Thanks, Tom. I assumed as much. Spanish tends to be a bit longer than English and it throws off the placement of my images anyway.

  • Spanish dictionary for ibooks

I use iBooks for Spanish books.  On my iPad I easily associate iBooks with a built-in Spanish dictioinary.  This must exist in my new Mavericks Mac operating system but I cannot see how to load it.  Also, my iBooks are not sychronized between iMac and iPad.  Any ideas?

Thanks, Tom - this is helpful.  However, the selection this app gives me is four English-language dictionaries when I select "All":  New Oxford American Dictionary, Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus, Apple Dictionary and Wikipedia.  I know there are dictionaries in other languages lurking in there somewhere, and they are readily available on iPad.  But where do I find them in Mavericks?

  • Se puede descargar libros en ingles con iBookstore España?

I've downloaded ibooks from Spanish website as I reside in Spain, but prefer reading books in English. Can I do so with Spanish App or is it better to download ibooks UK???

If you can't find what you want in the ibookstore, the best approach is to use another source which has a free ebook reader for your device, such as Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony.

No, it's not possible.  You will have to acquire another copy of the book in your native language.  If you can't find it in the iBookstore, try one of the other stores that also provide free ereader apps, like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony.

  • HT6119 I live in Australia and I want to buy books written in Spanish. Why can't I find any at the iBook store?

Is it a way to buy books in other languages?

You can only buy the books that are available in your country's ibookstore. If there are particular ibooks that you would like to buy in Spanish then you can try requesting that they be added, but unless the publisher/rights-holder for Australia agrees to it then Apple won't be able to sell them there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • HT5557 I would like to link French-English, Italian-English, German-English, and Spanish-English dictionaries to my iBooks app. The default dictionaries are inadequate. Any hope for me?

This question applies to Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
The foreign language dictionaries supplied by Apple are inadequate, depending on knowledge of the language, either too limited (for me in Italian) or too difficult
(for my level of German). I need better single language and dual language dictionaries linked to my iBooks reading app.
    Any scholarly hacks? Work-arounds? Thanks.

For iOS it's not possible.  For OS X, see

  • How to format an iBook G4 from spanish to inglish

i need help on how to fully restart my iBook G4 and how to format it to inglish

    Hello,
You would need a English language copy of Mac OS X install disk. Depending on what version of the iBook you own depends on what OS X you need to install. For example if it's a 1.33Mhz with 512 Meg Ram you could install Mac OS X 10.5 Retail.
When you come to selecting the install drive, select options and then format the drive accordingly.

  • Spanish keyboard in iBook G4

Is "alt" key the same as "Opción" key?
Is "apple" keys the same as "Comando" key?
In the upper right side there is a left arrow, is the same as "Delete" key? How does it work?
This isn't about keyboard but, how can I do to open several windows of Safari at the same time?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the iBook Discussions!
Yes, "option" is the same as "alt" and the "Apple" key is the same as "command".
The "delete" key will go backwards and remove letters you've typed. If you want, you can hold down on the "fn" key and type a delete to remove letters ahead of the insertion point.
You can simply choose "New Window" in the File menu in Safari to open a new window. You can also type command-n to open a new window. You may want to enable tabbed browsing so you can open tabs rather than new windows.

  • US iBooks Store should have access to ALL books worldwide

The US is very rich in cultures. For instance it has a very big Latin American population. The iBooks store should have access to the Spanish books sold in Spanish countries so that this portion of US citizens can read books in their native language. The same goes for every other culture in the US. That's why I'm saying that the US iBooks Store should have access to ALL the libraries in the world of iBooks Stores. Thanks.

To expand on Tamara's answer a little, the publishing industry (books, music, movies, etc) is not a world-wide monolith. Each country has its own copyright laws which sometimes are quite different from even countries bordering it. This has led to publishers having many subsidiaries and/or working agreements with local publishers. A British author doesn't need to have his/her work translated (which adds its own copyright issues to the meld) but still will require both a US and a UK publisher for the book to be published in both countries. It isn't just a simple matter of lots of books being printed and then shipping some of them across the ocean.
This mess has existed for a very long time and Apple can't just wave a wand and make it go away.

  • Software Bundled with iBook GB OS 10.3.4

I'm working on reinstalling the OS on an iBook G4 (1.07 GHz PPC). The computer was not originally mine, so I'm not sure what additional software came bundled. As far as I can tell, it's this model. When I reinstalled with original Software Install DVDs, apparently not all the additional software was installed, and I can't find it. Specifically, I'm looking for AppleWorks, which is listed at the above link as being included with all models. The original user did have it installed, so it must be somewhere.
I only realized the software was missing after updating to 10.3.9. Which makes me wonder whether I need to have installed the software before updating to be able to access it at all.
When I open "Programme & Classic Support" on DVD 1 (German), it doesn't allow any form of custom installation, although the ReadMe suggests it should.
Should there be another disc included that I am unaware of? Any ideas about where the software might be? Thanks.

Solved the problem. It turns out there are two installers for installing software using "Programme & Classic Support". The first installer looks just like the one for installing the OS off the DVD, but it doesn't give you options for the choice of programs. But clicking install opens another installer that lets you choose what to install. Didn't get to pick the language, though, which apparently you should be able to do. It installed German whereas the OS was installed in Spanish.
    Thanks for the suggestion, dalstott.

  • Multilingual Dictionary for English Books in iBooks 3.0?

In iBooks 3.0, can I look up the Chinese definition (translation) of English words using the built-in dictionary? It doesn't seem so, but I had assumed I would be able to when I first heard of the new features included with the iBooks update. If not, I'm hoping that this feature will be available at some point in the near future.

    Thanks, I missed that somehow!
Odd they would say it is "new", since the dictionaries were provided Sept. 19 with iOS 6 and are also available in iBooks 2.

  • Can i Publish an ibook in different languages? I mean three different books

Can i Publish an ibook in different languages? I mean three different books

I believe so - release them as editions or a series (see iTunes Producer meta data). ABC Title, Edition 1 English; ABC Title, Edition 2 Spanish;  ABC Title, Edition 3 German...that sort of thing, but with the titles translated, of course
See the store for existing examples.
