IBook leeching from neighbor

I got a Mac mini. The airport kept dropping its connection every so often for no reason at all. My husband installed a new Belkin wireless router and set it with WEP security. The Mini is working great! No more drops at all for the past two weeks. But... now every time my iBook wakes from sleep, for some reason it is losing its wireless connection and when it wakes it connect to my neighbors wifi. I can get it to connect to my wifi, but I have to go in and manually select it. Which is a pain when I am trying to network to it from the other machine in the other room.
Did we fix the airport on one machine only to screw it up on the other? Any ideas? Thanks.

Something changed. My Mini was dropping Airport connection to internet sometimes every two minutes. As soon as I stopped using the internet (and sometimes while using it, but just pausing) I would get dropped. Though it would still show that I was connected and had four bars.
Also, there is a Palm device in the house that required that as it security. It isn't a big issue. We live in the middle of nowhere, literally a big valley in the middle of nowhere Montana, and the two houses that are near us that have wireless internet are wide open, they were the ones that I was unintentionally leeching from and seriously not the kind of people that know much more than how to use Facebook to talk to their kids, much less hack me. We mostly had it to keep a foreign exchange student we had from being on all night long. But she was leeching from the neighbors all night anyway. Hahaha....
It seems that the Mini wanted some kind of security though because when we tried leaving it open, it kept dropping too. So... it is a mini issue that a lot of people have had with its airport, maybe just coincidence this worked. I dunno. Thanks.

I upgraded my iBook G4 from 384MBytes to 640Mbytes and upgraded from Tiger to Leopard.
After a few weeks the HDD failed. I bought a new disk, installed it and trued to install Leopard, but the  install fails reporting "insufficient memory".
I assume the installation requires more memory than the OS actually needs to be able to run.
I need Tiger install CD/DVD so I can install Tiger first and then upgrade to Leopard.

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.
You need much more RAM than that.

  • Is there a way to prevent ibooks author from shutting down after just one or two uses of the alpha tool?

Is there a way to prevent ibooks author from shutting down after just one or two uses of the alpha tool?

Hello One Job at a time,
Deleting the application will not delete your projects.
Normally I keep all my work files on a separate drive.
If you command click on the title name of your project you will get a drop down path to show you the location of your book project.
or you can click on the drop down triangle beside its name to duplicate.
Just remember where you saved the file too.
In your applications folder on your computer select the iBA icon and press delete and also erase / empty the trash can.
You can then go back to the APP STORE and install iBA from new again.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,

  • Can't transfer iBooks pdfs from first gen iPad to new MacBook Pro

I have a bunch of important pdf files on a first gen iPad (iOS 5.1.1) that I want to transfer to iBooks in a 13" MacBook Retina.
In iTunes, choosing Devices >Transfer Purchases from My iPad isn't moving them over. I've been able to transfer all the non iBooks pdfs from GoodReader, etc. In iTunes, I can see them in the Books section of "On This iPad" but can't do anything but view info.
In iBooks, choosing File >Move Books from iTunes isn't doing it either.
Syncing warns me that it's going to delete the iPad files.
I'd rather not pay for 3rd party software if I can avoid it.
    Thanks.

No they're not in the iTunes library. Purchased titles transferred and a few other things but a bunch of DRM-free pdfs and DRM-free EPUBS won't Budge.
"Or you don't see them with the iPad connected to the Mac, with iTunes running, the iPad selected under devices and then look in the books tab of iTunes on the right?"...
No. However, if I go a couple tabs further to the right, to "On This iPad" and select Books in the left column, they're all listed. I just can't do anything but view their info or rate them.

  • I previously owned an iPad. I want to restore my iBook collection from my iPad to my Macbook. I can only see my collections but not the books. How can I restore it from my iPad backup?

I prevsiouly owned an Ipad. Before selling it, I backup it on my Macbook. When the new Mavericks has been released, i upgraded my Mac. Now that I have iBooks on my Mac, I want to restore my iBook collection from my previous Ipad to my Mac. On my Mac, I can only see the iBooks collection of my previous iPad but not the books that I have purchased. I probably had more than a hundred books on my collection (in epub and pdf formats). I have already tried transferring purchases in iTunes and adding to my Library but to no avail.
Can anyone give me a solution to this.

Restore as a NEW device to test. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file, or maybe it's one of your apps causing the trouble. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

Apple apps are supposed to take the language of your OS.  If you want it differently, try this app

  • Restoring my iBook G4 from an external drive

Hi everyone, I am hoping to get some tips here. I have just got my iBook returned from AppleCare, where it had its internal HD replaced. That in itself was a story, but I will focus on the present rather than the past!
The good news is that I always do regular back-ups and all of my data was saved on my LaCie 300GB external drive. I have the drive partitioned -- 70 GB is a bootable OS X 4.8 clone of my Macintosh HD (made using LaCie's SilverKeeper app), and the other 210 GB is pretty much just "data" in the form of music files.
I have tried using my Tiger install discs, starting up Disk Utility and doing an Erase and Restore (from the Bootable backup on the LaCie drive) and about 80% of the way through, I get a non-descript error message -- I think it's error -22 but I can't quite remember, even though I have tried this twice now. So I click OK, and then still in Disk Utility, I do a "Verify Disk" on my brand-spanking-new internal HD on the iBook, and it won't let me do it. Instead, it gives me this error message: "the underlying task reported failure on exit." In red, in the First Aid box, it tells me there is an "Invalid B-Tree node size." (I have no idea what any of this means.)
Strangely, though, when I restart the iBook from the internal HD, I am able to boot up. But there is obviously something wrong with the disk. What do I do? I'm able to boot up, and I'm obviously able to connect to the internet, and most of my data seems to have been copied onto the new internal HD, but obviously there is something wrong with the disk. I am afraid to use anything or save any data other than on the external, because things seem rather unstable.
Any ideas as to my next step?
I should add that before doing the Erase and Restore via Disk Utility, I first tried following the instructions at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106941 and although everything seemed to "work" fine, I had permissions issues -- suddenly I was unable to access items on my external HD when I plugged it in, because I did not have admin privileges, even though I have set up my account as being the Admin account.
I also tried using the Migration Assistant, but with no success, despite not needing any firmware updates on an iBook G4. It just froze and I couldn't do anything.
My next step is a phone call to AppleCare... but I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong? Or maybe I should be contacting LaCie and their SilverKeeper app support? Any suggestions / support greatly appreciated.

John, thanks again. But now I am confused.
I have run Disk Utility to check the external drive; it says it's fine.
I am not restoring the internal from a disk image. Here is what I have tried in Disk Utility (on my Tiger DVD):
-under "Restore", I am dragging my external "OS X Bootable" drive (on the partitioned external) into the "Source" slot,
-dragging my "Macintosh" (newly replaced internal) into the "Destination" slot,
-checking the box that says "Erase Destination".
    -clicking "Restore"
    -80% through, I get a non-descript error message.
-when I later try to verify the internal HD "Macintosh" (which has now been re-named "OS X Bootable"), it gives me the node error I mentioned earlier.
I'm not installing a fresh copy of Tiger via Erase and Restore. How do I do this? Or are we talking about the same thing? (Apologies if we are... as I said, I'm confused now.)
    Rather than trying to copy
your entire Home folder (along with any possible
corrupted preference files) why not just drag and
drop your documents after the reinstall?
Doing this would mean I'd have to re-set all my hundreds of preferences. You have a point; perhaps my preference files are the corrupted ones. However, it's not just the documents I'm talking about. I'm talking about thousands of music files, playlists, and photo albums. And I'd have to re-install every application that doesn't come with OS X.
I did regular backups on my LaCie external, and tested it every time I backed up, to make sure I could always boot from my external if I needed to (which I can). I have a "perfect" clone on my external of everything I had before my internal crashed and needed to be replaced -- why isn't it simple enough to just put this back onto my internal? Isn't that the reason I did backups in the first place? Otherwise I would have just dropped and dragged only the data onto my external drive every week, rather than making a clone.
In theory, shouldn't I be able to do this? Restore from my external and copy everything there onto the internal? Unless, of course you are right and one of my preference files is the corrupt one. But if that is the case, wouldn't Disk Utility tell me that there is an error on the external, bootable copy?
What would you advise? Do you think I should just start from scratch, and re-install as you've advised -- new system, new directory, no third-party apps, no preferences?
    <sigh>

  • Transferring data, iBooks etc. from old to new iPad

I am upgrading from the original iPad to an IPad Air 2. How do I migrate data, apps, iBooks etc. from the old iPad to the new one. I can see a back up feature on the iPad but it's not clear exactly what gets backed up. Does it include cookies?

For expediency, configure iTunes to sync EVERYTHING (books, movies, songs, apps) and store stuff locally. Enable encryption (just don't forget the password you set) and even your passwords, cookies get saved in the backup file. When the new device is plugged in and iTunes recognizes as such, the restored result will be identical even in the screen icon placement. Storing locally on the computer's drive results in a faster restore since all the stuff is already there and not subject to network vagaries.

  • Cannot read ibooks imported from iPad on macbook air

I can't read my ibooks imported from iPad on MacBook Air. Library is installed. how can I open the books for reading?

OOPS! I got it sorted out by installing from Brother CD (as distinct from download as tried previously). I hope I have not wasted anybody's time.

  • How can I open iBooks "store" from iBooks app on ipad air

I am unable to access the iBooks "store" from the iBooks app on my new ipad air.  I have tried deleting the app and re-downloading.  I have tried turning ipad off and restarting.  Any ideas?

Sign out of your ID, close the iBooks app, reboot the iPad, sign in again, launch the app again and then try to access the store again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store. Tap your ID and sign out.
Close iBooks. Double tap the home button and find the iBooks app thumbnail on the screen. Swipe up on the app preview thumbnail to close it completely.
Reboot the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen and then let go of the buttons.
After the device completely restarts, go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store and sign in. Launch iBooks and then try to access the store again.
