Ibook loops on loginwindow

i had my ibook for 2 years now, never made any problems, but yesterday i updated it to the 003 security update and had a kernel panic in boot time (the gray screen). i entered form single user mode, and deleted everything in startup items. the kernel panic never came again but instead the gray screen was stuck , i did verbose mode and it showed that the system was stuck on loginwindow loop.. (it kept calling loginwindow again and again)
so i searched the net and deleted the com.apple.loginwindow.plist and loginwindow.plist everywhere but still the same problem, i really need the computer to work now (its finals time) and yes i know i sould have backed up.
i did repair permissions before and after the update.
i really need help,
thanks in advance

Hi,
I never run in that problem but I recommend to do the following, this depends on if you an external firewire harddrive.
If not, go get one and use it for further backups.
1.0 plug the HD to the ibook
1.1 start the powerbook from the installer cd and install a mac osx version to the ibook´s plugged fire wire hd
1.2 set mac os x up
1.3 download the combo installer 10.46 from the Apple support website
1.4 install it to the build in hd of the powerbook, at this time you are working from the external hd
1.5 if it is installed, rebbot from the internal
1.6 if it works, copy all your work-files to the external hd
1.7 then completely reinstall your ibook, update it to 10.45 or 10.46
1.8 use a maintenance tool like onyx 1.7x regularly
There may be other or better ways but I do not have much time to spend here, sry.
Regards, Thorsten

  • Machine boots until LoginWindow.app launches/crashes in loop

Machine is a macbook, running 10.4.11. On Wednesday, the user accepted an update, and rebooted. The boot goes all the way through the "Starting Mac OS X..." screen -- the status bar goes all the way across -- and then when it goes to launch LoginWindow.app it hangs with the blank blue screen.
When booting in verbose mode, it is clear that LoginWindow.app is crashing on launch infinitely. We have run disk repair and repaired permissions multiple times, and no change. Looking at the console log, this appears to be the start of the trouble:
Aug 13 17:06:22 andreas-computer crashdump: CoreGraphics server version 258.0 not compatible with client version 258.79; log out or reboot needed
This was the message that came up in an alert panel. After that, there were some interesting messages on bootup, but by 17:20 the console messages have settled in... loginwindow.app starts, mds & blued crashe some number of times, loginwindow.app crashes, -- like this:
    Aug 13 17:20:12 andreas-computer /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started

    Aug 13 17:20:14 andreas-computer crashdump[168]: loginwindow crashed
We've tried doing disk repair and permission repair when booted in single-user mode off of the local disk, and also when booted off of the install CDs -- it doesn't seem to matter, all checks are clean. (We also ran fsck in single-user mode, and it passed with no errors.)
I've attached more of the console.log -- after this section it just repeats the launch loginwindow, crash mds & blued, crash loginwindow sequence over and over.
It looks like a file is corrupted (not the permissions, but the file contents itself.) Does anybody have any idea what file(s) it might be? Or how to get them off the install disk?

We've got the machine booted and happy...
The timeline of the failure turned out to be what mattered... The teacher told me that she had taken an update (she thought it was iTunes and a security update but wasn't positive.) Then when it went to reboot it came up with the error and told her to reboot. Then when she tried to reboot is when it started with the launch/crash loop on loginwindow.app.
My husband hooked the machine up to his machine using target mode, and (among many things we tried) tracked down what appeared to be all of the recent updates that should have happened. He found and reinstalled the latest security update over the target mode connection. Once the security update was completed, the macbook booted normally.
For people (like me) who had no idea how to install an update this way:
    Go to http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/
scroll down the page looking for the packages
click on it to download the package you want
when the package is done, double-click on it
The package loader will come up and offer you a choice of disks to install on -- choose the target-mounted disk and install.

  • Login "Loop" issue after upgrading to Leopard from Tiger-iBook G4

    Hi Guys,
I've the same login "loop" issue as described in *Apple KB article #306965* only on an iBook G4, unfortunately the solution offered in the KB article does not help.
There is one slight variant being that the user desktop appears for a second or two after the blue screen following login before it returns (loops) to the login window. It happens on all (2) user accounts.
The interesting thing is it doesn't occur on either account when booting in 'safe mode'.
Apart from deleting these accounts and saving/transferring the data are there any other ideas, suggestions or solutions?
    Regards,
    BB

Did a clean install, cloned the HD with SuperDuper and then used Mig. Asst. to restore data back to the original HD. All now OK.
A & I was done in the initial upgrade from Tiger.
    Cheers,
    BB

  • Does anyone know how to add Audio to iBooks Author and Loop it continuously

I need to Loop a 2 second piece of audio in iBooks Author.  When I Preview it on my iPad it doesn't Loop correctly.  Can anyone please help me with this strange problem.
    Thanks in advance.  David

    Hi K T,
Still having lots issues with Looping.  Was wondering if you were able to import any short drum loop for example from Garage Band or Logic or similar into iBooks Author and select the Loop option.  Do you get a gap or buffering effect before the audio repeats?  I've tried so many different audio types now and think it must be a bug with iBooks.  The gap only occurs when opened or played in iBooks.  I just want to confirm that it's not just my system that has the problem.  I have tried it on iPad 2 and iPad with Retina, but not iPad Air.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks David

  • IBooks stays in loop

I had to restore my iPad and on downloading all of my iBooks several of them will not  re-download they just stay in the loop and I cannot delete them or download I have no idea want is wrong need help. A.S.A.P please.
    God bless

If the question is already answered then you forgot to give points!
There is general assumption that you have either
    loop at itab1.   ( n records)
      loop at itab2.   ( a records, a constant)
    or
    loop at itab1
loop at itab2   where  key =   (m records in itab2, where m grows if n grows)
In the first case you have no performance problem, it scales with n.
In the second case, you have a performance problem if itab2 is standard table. But you can avoid it, if you use sorted tables.
You can also avoid it for standard tables by a workaround
read binary search, loop from index, exit
For details on the workaround see
Measurements on internal tables: Reads and Loops:

  • HT201272 Trying to download book from iBooks.  When I press the cloud to download, I get a ,message that I have already purchased the book, go to store, chose purchases, and select download.  I am in a continuous loop of the same message.  Any ideas?

Purchased book from iBooks.  Went to store - purchases- chose the book to download by choosing the cloud with down arrow.  Get message that I have already purchased the book, go the store purchases to download, which is exactly what I am trying to do.  I am just in a continuous loop, but can't get the book to download.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iBook store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iBook store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen after you tap the store button in the top corner of the iBook app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

Booting in a single user mode - I can use the command line only, but when I but it's still the same problem
    Clearing NVRAM
I can't do anything so I don't know what's installed. I have made a video to describe excatly what's happening - but in short the iBook boots fine, Finder lauches and crashes imidieatly - you can't do anything, it's just stuck in a loop.
Here's the video (skip to 0:55 for the problem):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9niwiVSVyBo
    Any solutions?

Ideally, you need an install disc. Try looking on eBay.
It is possible to get into Disk Utility from the dock (the dock is a completely separate application from Finder), but that will only allow you to fix permissions on the startup disk; it won't let you repair anything that's been corrupted.
It may also be possible to trash your Finder prefs, either via the dock or the command line. I'm no Terminal expert, but I believe the command is 'rm' to remove a file.
A quick scan of my system shows Finder prefs located at:
    Users/your-username/Library/Preferences/apple.com.finder.plist
    Users/your-username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.finder.plist
Removing a prefs file forces OSX to create a new one, although I'd proceed with caution when deleting anything inside the System.

  • Leopard Install on iBook G4 stuck in a "loop."

I just bought a 5-pack of Leopard. I installed it on my MacBook, and am trying to install it on my iBook G4. The G4 is a 1GHz maching, but I didn't read the RAM requirements, and it doesn't have enough RAM. The Installer said that I didn't have enough RAM, and that I needed to restart the computer. I hit OK and restarted. Now, the "Use English for the Main Language screen is coming up. I hit the "forward" button, and it goes through the same process again. It seems to be caught in some kind of loop. Any ideas?

    Hi
Restart the iBook again and hold down the clicker on the trackpad. It should eject the installer disk. Failing that restart and hold down the option key (alt), its the one between the ctrl key and apple key immediately to the left of your space bar. This gets you to startup disk manager. You should be able to select your internal drive (if it still has a valid system on it) as the boot drive. Click the right hand arrow and it should now boot normally. Once you've logged in eject the disk.

  • While trying to open iBooks in mavericks it is showing "Sign in to download from the iBooks Store" dialog box but not showing where to sign in and it is appearing continuously in infinite loop

whenever i try t open iBooks from my newly Updated OS Mavericks it asked me to sign in but there are no textbox or form where i can fill the credentials but it is giving me 3 options cancel, create new apple id and sign in when i click on sign in it reappears and the same thing happens for other two options also, i am not able to login into iBooks, Someone help me....

I'm having exactly the issue, but found that itvdoes not happen all the time.
It seems to be dependent on the network I am logged in.

  • "Account info changed" Loop when purchasing iBook

I am trying to purchase a photo book, but after the book is assembled I get the message '"Your account information has changed. Please review your billing information and approve it."  Which I do--although account info has not changed-- but am then sent back to the beginning. The 85 page books is reassembled, and I get the message again.
Any tips on how to get out of this loop? It has not happened before and I have created and ordered many books over the years. My iTunes and other "1-Click" purchasing applications are not affected.

    I am re entering it AGAIN... { this will be the fifth time today, and the eighth over all}
I went to the Apple Store site, and to the "my info" site and re-entered all my information both places. I then re-assembled book (this takes about 15 minutes, over 500 photos in 85 pages), got the same message, clicked Done after re-entering it for a 3rd time, and had to start again. Although I noted that this last time it still didn't save my shipping preferences (resets it to Express, not standard..)
One- Click is always selected, although I do make a point to re select it each time.
It is now reassembling....lets see if the 13th time is a charm.

  • G3 iBook having dial-up connection issues

    iBook 500MHz G3 running 10.3.9
My Dad's computer is acting very, very strange. He's got a dial-up with connection, which is admittedly slow. This affects both Safari & Firefox when he's browsing the 'net. Lately (past few months, off and on) it's been SLOW AS DRUGGED SNAILS. It will sometimes take 5 or 10 minutes to load a page, sometimes resulting in a "loaded x of y items, z errors" kind of thing in both Safari & Firefox. The computer is otherwise normal for other computing tasks. I have tried connecting from my house and also, it appeared normal (that day).
Maybe a month ago I ran disk repair/permissions and a once around on the extended hardware test and came up with nothing obvious. I'm running a loop hardware test right now and will let it loop for a good long while, maybe 5 or 6 hours. So far, no errors after nearly 15 loops.
In the meantime, I've been poking in the logs. I did some Googling, but it was mostly unhelpful (whether or not it was my query set, I don't know). But, does anyone have any idea what this is: "May 29 19:23:44 localhost kernel: 0 0 AppleUSBCDCECMData: probe - provider doesn't want us to match"? Would that be an error in the iBook's OS X software or his dial-up provider refusing to connect (as usual they are clueless on the Mac front and blame any and all problems on the Mac)?
As a last resort, and I do mean last resort, I could zero out the drive and reinstall Panther. I'd rather figure out what is wrong so if it a) pops up again I know what it is and can address it and b) don't want to do the reinstall dance if I don't have to.
Log from the other day. Similar as yesterday and others.
    Any insight is appreciated.

It was doing a lot of things a lot, things I wouldn't expect it to be doing.
As it turned out, I did format and reinstall Panther for him. We tested it here and it behaved as expected (for dial-up). All was right with the world until he got back to his house.
Same as before. I told him to call the provider and tell them that a) the iBook has a fresh install and was updated to include all current software for Panther and b) he had none of this at my house. That, in fact, I surfed on it for a whole morning and didn't experience any of the issues he did.
    The situation stands like this:
provider is having one of their engineers look at the issue (slow w/disconnects)
he is to call his local telephone company and ask them to conduct a line test for noise.
In the meantime, I'm scouting around for a compatible wireless card that won't cost us an arm and a leg and pushing for him to go to the cable company for access.

  • Playing Loops in L8

Bear with me, I recently upgraded to Logic 8 from Logic 6.4... so the loop thing is new to me. I can audition the "green" loops in the loop browser, but when I drop them onto the arrange window (in an instrument track or in a blank space) they don't play in any audio (the little track meter registers as if it is, but there's nothing). So, for example, I drop Classic Rock Beat 06 onto the arrange window. It loads--though, interestingly enough, one sample is missing. Anyways, there's no audio when I play it. I've tested several of the "green" loops, same thing. The blue ones are fine.
Thanks in advance, I'm sure it's something "Doh!" worthy.

I am having the same problem with my Jam Pack loops. I bought the jam packs a few years ago and have been using them fine with my iBook. I put them on an external drive (trying to keep the iMac HD empty) and dropped the folder on my loops browser. They've worked fine with my iBook for years. I just got a new iMac and, again, dropped the folder on my loops browser. They play fine in the browser, but when I drop them in the timeline I only hear a faint beat.
    Any suggestions?

  • Intel iMac stuck in reboot loop

Since the last few days, my 6 month old Intel iMac is stuck in a reboot loop.
    Configuration:
    Model Name:          iMac
    Model Identifier:          iMac12,1
    Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
    Processor Speed:          2.5 GHz
    Number of Processors:          1
    Total Number of Cores:          4
OS: 10.6.8 (with patches applied as they become avaliable)
It is connected to a UPS at all times.
I always put it to sleep at night. Sometimes it stays in the Sleep mode for a couple of days (i travel and wife does not use for some time). But it always would "wake" up from Sleep on a keyboard touch. Magic mouse battery died a few days ago, so put in a new pair of battery, had the usual problem of "pairing", fixed that and continued on.
(Coincidentally, it almost also marks where my problems started).
Now, when i press any key, the iMac reboots. And then just before it looks like it will show the wallpaper, it reboots. and this continues on - sometimes 10-15 times. I press the power key and switch it OFF. Press the power key again, no go - stuck in the reboot loop. Run the Apple Hardware Test (exhaustive one included - it reports no issue found). Do a SMC reset (take off the power cord from the back of the iMac for 35 seconds) and put it back. Switch off the mouse and attach a USB mouse and press the Shift key to boot into the Safe mode. This works! Installed Pacifist to check for any non-Apple kernel extensions, none found...
Since AHT reports all fine - can hardware be ruled out?
Could it be the magic mouse? Need to try it (just wary of the reboot loop )?
If it is the mouse, is it covered in the 12 month initial warranty (I am in India)?
    Console log reports this line:
    08/06/12 7:20:59 PM
    configd[13]
    Sleep: Success - AC
    com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.powermanagement.sleep

    com.apple.message.result: Success
    com.apple.message.uuid: A9EDA79D-440F-4CD5-B3FA-5A6451E6677B
    and this:
    08/06/12 7:20:59 PM
    configd[13]
Wake: Drivers Failure - AC - HDEF SATA
    com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.powermanagement.wake
    com.apple.message.signature: Drivers Failure
    com.apple.message.result: Failure
    Is it the HDD?
Any/all help is appreciated. I am going to carry it in to an Apple Care tomorrow, but was curious to see what the community had to say.
    Thanks,

  • Can't install new loops/instruments in GB '08

I went to install iLife 08 on my iBook yesterday. I did a custom install because I didn't want to install all the apps right away. For Garage Band, I noticed that the option for installing additional loops and instruments was grayed out. It would not allow me to even check it.
What's going on? Why can't I install the new loops/instruments that are part of GB '08?

    So, I installed GB 08
Then, I went back to the installer. I can now check the garage band add ons option. Except that I can't check just that. It forces me to check the main garage band install box as well. I assume that means it would re-install GB, just to get those extras??
Also, sounds and jingles still can't be checked. It says there is stuff for GB and iMovie. I can't install iMovie since my G4 ibook won't run it, but I would think I would still be able to get the sounds and jingles to use in GB.
