Ibook & .mac sync

Hi
Can anyone help. I have not been able to get my ibook to sync with my .mac account. Mobileme technical say its a problem with settings on my ibook, something to do with my ibook being set up as a client. Has anyone else had this problem or got any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks
Jas

I have Synchronized my G-4 to .Mac. In other words .Mac should be the same as my G-4. When I try to sync my iBook and Mac Mini to .Mac I get the above error message. All 3 machines are running 10.4.2

    Using Workgroup Manager:
    Select user(s) in question

    Select Mobility
    Select 'Rules'
    Select 'Home Sync'
Under the Manage Options, add to 'Skip items that match any of the following'

  • .mac sync problem:  account information issues

I have 3 machines, all running 10.4.11. 2 of them synced (before the .me migration), one, an ibook G4 has never synced
In Ical preferences, the synchronize calendar box is grayed and there is the following message: Your .mac account information is not correct or you did not turn on synchronization in the .mac Preference Pane
When I go to .mac in system preferences, under the Sync tab, I am unable to check off any of the programs that can be synced. If I try to check off the synchronize with .mac box, the check appears then immediately disappears. Going to advanced, pressing the Register this Computer button. causes nothing to happen.
I have no problems accessing my account or idisc.
I have reset my sync data,
    reset my .mac password
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Carolyn,
You set me on the right path. com.apple.syncservices.ConflictResolver.plist could not be found. So, I started deleting preference files and rebooting.
    First
    com.apple.DotMacSync.plist
    Then
    com.apple.isync.plist
    Then
    com.apple.dotmaccertificatefix.plist
In all of the above cases I received the following error message when I went to system preferences / .mac / sync tab
"There was a problem with the sync
    .Mac login failed"
    Then
    com.apple.dotmactranslator.plist
at system preferences / .mac / sync tab
Dot mac then told me that there were two of my computers using the same name. This might have been left over from the migration assistant
I changed the name of the computer that was giving me an error instead of syncing and that solved the problem.
    Thank you all.

  • 10.5.3 Breaks .Mac Syncing

This morning I updated my Mac Book Pro and my Mac Mini to 10.5.3. .Mac sync settings and conflicts ensued. I'm now trying to "resolve" these conflicts by unregisterring my two Macs and doing a fresh sync. Hitting lots of problems.
Before I go further in this thread, let me say that I feel this thread belong here, in "Using Mac OS X Leopard". I feel these problems were created due to the upgrade especially sync .Mac seems to have been touched as part of the upgrade in the Apple upgrade description.
First, though I'm able to unregister my two Macs when I try to re-register the Mac Book Pro I get an error telling me that it's already registered under the same name, and if I register it again problems will occur. OK - sounds fair but why does .Mac still considered my MBP as a registered device when the OS X.Mac system preference allowed me to unregister it?
Second, though I'm able to un-register both Macs and suggest to .Mac to delete all previously sync'd content (via a convenient OS X system preference pop-up dialog), the original 168 sync conflicts remain.
Third, when I try to refresh my sync, it errors out stating that the sync has failed. My assumption is that this occurs b/c the OS still thinks there are 168 sync conflicts.
RESOLUTION (I think this is working ...)
As I'm typing this I'm trying something different which seems to be working. Hopefully others will find this prescription useful:
    1. Update OS X to 10.5.3
    2. Note if you have .Mac sync conflicts
    3. If you're Mac is in a known-good-state (ie - the data there is more current and 'right' than on .Mac), resolve your conflicts from the Mac pushing back up to .Mac
    4. System Prefs > .Mac > Sync (tab) > Advanced (button) > unregister your macs
    5. System Prefs > .Mac > Sync (tab) > Synchronize with .Mac (checkbox) > check it; set to manual
    6. System Prefs > .Mac > Sync (tab) > Sync (button) > start your sync
If this procedure works, go ahead and set the "Synchronize with .Mac" back to Automatically, if that's your preference.
NOTE: As I'm writing this, I notice that the sync has stopped as far as the .Mac sync icon shows in the menu bar; it's not moving. However, in the .Mac system preferences, the status reads, "Status: Preparing .Mac Sync ...".
I'll keep this post updated if anything changes.

Similar problems here. I got duplicate calendars on both the iBook (updated from .Mac) and MBP (this updates .Mac) after 10.5.3 upgrade and subsequent normal scheduled sync with .Mac.
So I trashed MBP Calendar files, recovered to MBP from a known state back up (not Time Machine), deregistered both machines, re-registered both, set .Mac to sync from PBP and sync'd. Duplicates again but not duplicate of all entries on duplicated calendars.
Checked sync rules, they had reset to .Mac to update MBP. Changed rules back to MBP update .Mac and sync'd again - same result. Trashed Calendar files, trashed any pref with sync in file name, restored and stopped.
When I check .Mac sync rules, it has always reset to .Mac updates MBP - so I have just abandoned .Mac as I do not have time for this. Touch wood, MBP to iPhone sync is OK.
    Any ideas appreciated.

  • .mac syncing problems

I was never able to sync my addressbook between new iMac and .mac. The .mac account has been existing for several years. When I purchased the iMac G5, I copied the addressbook data from my iBook (OS 10.3.9) to the iMac (10.4).
Whenever I try to syn (merge) iMac and .mac, I get an error message:
    .mac sync notice
An inconsistency was detected on .mac for your contacts data. You may want to reset .mac from a computer with good data.
Well, I synced from my old iBook, and , when trying to sync from the iMac, I am getting the same message again.
    I am at a loss.
    Jurgen

    Hi dlsc,
I think I understand the problem. Simply, the content on the.mac server and the one on your computer do not agree to each other. So, you have the choice to decide, which address dataset you are going with...the one on .mac or the one on your computer. In resetting .mac, according to this article, you can delete either the data on .mac or on your computer and replace them by the other data set. Before doing so, I would make a copy of your addressbook folder, the folder of which resided within your liabary folder.

  • .Mac Sync Notice

I have to say with a great deal of frustration that in over a year my iSync hasn't worked totally on any of my computers. It's been one issue after another, calenders, contacts, bookmarks etc., etc. I've owned Macs since the original 128 and have never had an issue like this that's been unresolved for this long. I actually just gave up on iSync but I tried it again today and this time I get this
Window>.Mac Sync Error>The sync was either cancelled or timed out.
    and this Window>
.Mac Sync Error>An inconsistency detected on .Mac for your Contacts data prevented your sync from completing! You should consider resetting .Mac from a computer with good data.
Is there a cure for this or should I just shelve iSync and move along?

  • IBooks not syncing between iOS7 and Maverick

iBooks not syncing between iOS7 and Maverick
Just updated my MBP to Mavericks and only a few items have synced from my phone to the mac in iBooks.  The phone was also updated to iOS7.0.3 (the latest) today too before the Mavericks update.
Does anyone else have this problem?  Is this a bug which will hopefully be fixed shortly? Or is there something I can do to resolve this?
I have a number of .pdf´s in iBooks (.pdf books) on the phone and would obviously want everything on the phone accessible on the computer, as is the idea.
    Many thanks for your help/advice.
    Susan :S

This has been my headache since day one and a complete swing and a miss by Apple.  I haven't been able to get ANYTHING I have not explicitely purchased from iTunes to sync in iBooks across device.
For example:  If I load an ePub or PDF into iTunes and "manually" add to a device, this works just fine.
However, if I open a PDF file on my iPhone into iBooks, it doesn't show up in any of my other devices, including the new iBooks on my iMac with Maverick.  it doesn't matter which device it's added, nothing syncs if it's not purchased from iTunes.
Please, someone make me a liar and tell me I've completely missed something.
Apple:  Why or why can't I add PDF files to iBooks on my iMac and have them automagically show up in the collection I created on all my devices?  Because I didn't purchase them from you, you say?  Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Then don't let me add it in the first place and stop advertising "my content anywhere on any device" because this has been broken from day one.

  • Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

    Hi Barney,
That's exactly what I want. I have a personal user and a business user on my MacBook Pro. I want both users to have the same contacts so if I add a contact while I'm logged into my personal user, it will show up when I'm logged into my business user. I want both contacts books to be exactly the same; like you said. So, I used my business user AppleID when I enabled iCloud for my personal user and I enabled iCloud for my business user with that Apple ID as well. For my personal user, I selected Contacts and Calendars to sync with iCloud. For my business user, I selected everything to sync with iCloud. The problem is... it didn't change anything. I restarted my computer to see if that would do anything but nothing happened. I'm not super savvy with Apple products, so maybe I'm completely confused.
    Hi Xeni,
Thank you for your response, as well.

  • Duplicated events on iCal after .mac sync

    Thre facts:
    I have a TREO600, a desktop mac, and a powerbook, both running Tiger 10.4.4.
Due to some other problems with syncing the TREO, I have purchased the Missing Sync from MarkSpace, and that works very well to sync the palm with the desktop.
I started syncing my two computers with .mac lately, and I have nothing but trouble. Nearly every sync throws up some conflicts, often about events that have long passed. I went through the long list of conflicts EVERY time this happens, but iSync seems to complain about new conflict nearly everytime I sync.
Moreover, it seems to duplicate certain (but not all) events on my iCal after it has synced with .mac.
This is super annoying. I have seen that there are many different posts on duplication already, but none of them seem to match my problem, though there definetly seems to be a general problem with iSync not being very good at checking for duplicates.
Any ideas how to solve this?
    thanks,
    marc

Because you are running the Missing Sync for Palm OS in a Mac OS X 10.4 or later environment, the synchronization of your data is a separate process controlled by .Mac Sync. In order to correct the issue, you should perform a reset, replacing all of the records on .Mac with the records from iCal and the Address Book, which should, incidently, be contemporaneous with your Treo 600 smartphone.
To do that, launch System Preferences and select the .Mac pane. Press the Advanced tab, then the Reset Sync Data… button in the lower left corner of the dialog box. Reserve the default directional data transfer from .Mac to your machine by pressing the right-facing arrow beneath the .Mac icon. This will shift directional flow so that data moves from your computer to the .Mac servers. You can keep the Replace: All Sync Data value in the drop-down menu above, or choose to synchronize only one data type [Calendars or Contacts] by selecting the appropriate value. If you synchronize them separately, you must repeat this process for the other data type.
This event will transfer a complete set of records from iCal and the Address Book to the appropriate storage locations on the .Mac servers, replacing the non-matching data currently stored there. It will not affect your continued use of the Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks menu, and will not change the data stored on your handheld the next time you synchronize.

  • ICal events changing duration and start time after .Mac sync

I sync two OS X Tiger computers (10.4.2) using .Mac to keep my iCal calendars in order. Certain events following a certain date are mutating with longer durations and different start times after syncing between the two computers.
    Anyone experiencing the same problem?
    Any ideas?

    Two different problems here:
    Try one at a time:
Quit iCal. Delete iCal preferences in your User Library: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist ( you'll have to reset iCal prefs after)
For those having problems with .Mac sync, reset the sync System Preferences/ .Mac/ Advanced tab.
    Come back with results

  • .Mac sync no longer working

Since a few days ago, .Mac syncing of my bookmarks stopped working. I noticed that all the bookmarks I added on my G5 stopped showing up in .Mac and on my laptop. However bookmarks added on the laptop would show up on .Mac, too.
So I decided to unregister all computers, then reregister the G5, reset all data on .Mac from the G5. No go: iCal and AddressBook sync to .Mac, but my .Mac bookmarks remain empty, no matter how often I unregister and reregister my G5, how often I reset all bookmark data from the computer, or how long I wait for .Mac to update and reflect the changes (over night should be long enough!)
In an act of desperation, I unregistered the computers again, and deleted just about everything that has to do with syncing and Safari out of ~/Library/ApplicationSupport, ~/Library/Caches, etc.
After reregistering the computer, as almost expected: iCal and AddressBook work and update properly on .Mac, but the bookmarks remain empty.
Anyone knows what is stuck here, and what needs to be deleted/reset for this to get going again?
It's a true pity that Apple's software has no concept of self-repair. It relies too much on pre-existing folders, files, caches, etc. No matter how much of these files should be missing, corrupt, etc. the software should be able to recover from that as long as the actual binary of the application is OK. (Oh, yes, that too: I did copy Safari from another computer, just to make sure that if the app had been damaged, that would be taken care of...)
At this point, I don't know what else to try. Even killing SyncServer didn't do a thing. (It is automatically restarted, so the hope was that maybe it might reload the data or something like that...)
    Ronald

One more thing: When I first tried to reset .Mac from the G5, it uploaded an outdated version of my bookmarks.
In other words, I suspect that the link between Safari's Bookmarks.plist and whatever is used as a data source for the .Mac syncing is broken, whatever that is. The problem is, I don't know what that link is, and how to reset it, and frankly, I shouldn't have to know: the Bookmarks.plist should be the authoritative source for all my local bookmarks, and if some intermediate storage gets out of sync, it should just fix itself w/o user interaction.

  • Whenever I connect iPhone 3GS to sync with Mac sync fails to open

Whenever I connect iPhone 3GS to sync with Mac sync fails to open. Brand new are there any upates I am unaware of?

"sync" fails to open?  Do you mean, iTunes?
If you manually open iTunes, does your iPhone show up in the left column?
    If so...
Click on your iPhone in the left column of iTunes.
Click on the "Summary" tab in the right colum of iTunes.
    Scroll down to "Options"
Select "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected"
    Apply

  • .mac sync icon won't go away!

Unexpectedly at the bar on the top of the screen, I get a ".mac sync" icon. I do not have a .mac account, and never had. I believe this icon showed up after I installed the latest Safari update, but I'm not certain. When I go to preferences, it simply tells me that I don't have a .mac account (my .mac member name or password is missing it says) so I can't remove the icon from the bar on top.
Anybody know how I can get that .mac sync icon at the top of my screen to go away?

Me, too. In fact I still have a few winder boxes lying around and also run winders on all three of my Macs. But most of the time, it's my new, pet MBP 17".
I have learned a tremendous amount about Macs from these forums. There are many very smart and knowledgeable people around here, and most of the time someone has the right answer to a problem.

  • Can't access dot mac sync options in system preferences

    Hi,
I noticed that my iMac (G5 - 10.5) was slowing down horribly. In the Activity Monitor it turned out that the dotmacsyncclient was using up 80-90% CPU. Syncing did work. When I wanted to check to .Mac setting I couldn't get into the Sync page. System Pref just crashed.
So I decided to delete all the sync settings from the Library (SyncServ). After a reboot the system seems to works just fine. The syncclient doesn't use up the cPU anymore so that's good.
But I still cannot access the .Mac sync options. System Prefs keep crashing. So not I cannot reset my sycing preferences!
Anyone has any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks!
    Marco

Well, it's nice to know that I'm not alone in this issue too. This started cropping up after the last major update to Leopard. I cannot reset .Mac sync services either in System Preferences or through the icon in the uppper right hand bar of the screen. Each time gets me a spinning beach ball which hangs the system and causes me to do a Force Quit.
Force Quit always shows it to be a non-responsive program. All other aspects are fine. I've even gone into iSync and reset the preferences there with no apparent change. I have no ideas on this one and have been searching for an answer myself - hopefully someone (or Apple) will have one...crash logs are not giving me anything to point to either...
