Ibook monitor hook-up

Many people here seem to need help using an external screen with their ibook, I however need help the other way around!
Is it possible to use my ibook G4's 1024x768 screen as a monitor for a computer that's currently monitor-less?

Brew-no, Welcome to the discussion area!
No there is no video input on the iBook.

I need to know a cheap way to hook iBookG4 so TV is monitor & hook up a keyboard so iBook is a distance away from me

...you'll need the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter.
I think that was a slip of the tongue since the iBook does not have a mini-DVI output.
The corresponding mini-VGA adapter, which will work, is the Apple Video Adapter (M9109G/A).

  • Dual Monitor Hook-up, DVI/VGA/HDMI?

I think it's time to retire my aging samsung 22" and buy a few 23" LED's to replace it.
My graphics card only has DVI out (x2), and the 3 monitors I'm looking at do not have dual DVI (either dual HDMI and DVI, or DVI/VGA/HDMI), so I would need adapters from DVI to HDMI/VGA. I'm guessing that's all handled at the adapter/hardware level, so linux should have no problem finding them, but if I'm hooking 1 up natively to DVI, and the other through an adapter (or both through adapters), will I notice any quality difference between the 2 monitors?

Personally I use my HDMI monitor as my main monitor and have the secondary monitor attatched to VGA. I can't really tell the difference in performance between the two, however I never work with anything terribly graphics intensive.
and it hurts to hear that my Samsung 22" is also  'aging'  of course so is my 17" secondary I guess maybe that'll be my next investment...
    Sorry about the aging comment
But this is the answer I was looking for! I don't want to have 1 monitor hooked up via HDMI and the other VGA and be able to see a noticeable difference between the 2. I don't do anything graphics intensive either.
    Thanks for all the responses!

  • My iMac (2007) keeps shutting off when in Full Screen mode (DVD, iTunes Visualizer, etc.) This only happens when I have an external monitor hooked up HDMI.

My iMac (2007) keeps shutting off when in Full Screen mode (DVD, iTunes Visualizer, etc.) This only happens when I have an external monitor hooked up HDMI. Help?

Try using another connection such as VGA or DVI to see if the problem repeats itself.

  • External monitor hooked to laptop keeps going "dark"

The screen on my laptop cracked and so I have hooked it up to an external monitor HP 2009m via VGA.  Laptop is HP Pavillion dv6 with Win7 home premium with all current updates.  After I have been working for about 30 minutes, the monitor keeps going off and I have to hit the power button which usually brings it back, but sometimes I also have to use the source button to cycle back to an active monitor.  The "power lockout" shows up occasionally and sometimes it just refuses to stay on for more than 30 seconds.  I have used the factory reset, have held the power button for 15-30 seconds and unplugged it but it still keeps happening.  I have disabled OSD and sleep and everything else I can think of.  Starting to suspect it is something coming from the laptop, have never seen anything like this and scoured forums for simliar problems/solutions (hence the holding power and factor reset items I have already tried).  I am starting to suspect it might be Netflix, although this seems odd, but it definitely happens more often if I am listening to Netflix in the background.
Anyway, I will reboot and it will be ok for awhile.  Actually, until I start watching netflix again.  Any other ideas?  Driving me insane.  Can I just get the monitor on my laptop fixed replaced?  Thanks in advance for any ideas.

you can check in power option and monitor options too
    >> start menu >> control panel >> Power options
you will see the list on the left column and you will find monitor options

  • Monitor hook up for Mimi

I recently purchased a Mac Mini Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ (mid 2010) MC270LL/A. I have an LG Flatron W2040 monitor. Can anyone tell me
what sort of connector I need to get to hook this monitor to the mini?
    Thanks,
    Jackie

    IIIaass is spot on.
I have dual LG Flatron S22B310 monitors connected to my 2010 Mac Mini.
One is connected using the Apple supplied HDMI to DVI adapter and a DVI cable.
The second is connected using a Kanex Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and a DVI cable.
Addtitionally I tried several different Apple branded MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapters and they worked fine using a single monitor, but would not work in the dual montor configuration.

  • Monitor Hook-up

I am a children's pastor and recently got a new macbook pro. I would like to hook it up to two tv monitors to play my music on. I don't know much about sound equipment, but need to know how to run my videos from the laptop to the two tvs. I have gotten some other opinions, from non Mac users, so i wanted a more educated one! Thanks for your time and input.
    God Bless

    Hi Rachel
If the TV supports HDMI then you can use this type of cable http://store.apple.com/us/product/TL952LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=Mjc2Mjg
You will need to use a headphone pin to 2xRCA for sound, (this can also be plugged into the tv). The DVI-HDMI cable only supports video transfer.
    Hope this helps

  • HELP! iBook monitor going multicoloured

    Hi there,
My iBook is going all multicoloured, from white to red then green and blue. Please help!

    True Story:
I was at our local Apple Store, sitting at the Genius Bar, about to ship my old Ti. Poerbook off to Apple (again..grrr....). Anyways, this kid brought in his iBook for some more RAM and the monitor started doing what yours does -right there in the Apple Store. The Head Genius replaced it right there (it was like 4 days old) - dead logic board.

  • Sony Monitor hooked to a Thunderbolt display

Has anyone hooked a Sony SDM-P234 monitor to a Thunderbolt display?

I didn't suggest using a VGA adapter because I never suggest using an analog interface when a digital interface is available.
But given that you have the vga adapter did you see an Arrangement tab in the Displays system preferences?  If not try clicking Detect Displays and make sure the TB plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket.
If you do have an Arrangement tab, and it shows two screens, then click Gather Windows to bring the other screen's Displays preferences on to your main screen.  Set the proper resolution.  Set the refresh rate if that preference is shown.  Hopefully you should see a picture at this point.

  • G5 Imac monitor hook up !!

    Hey Everyone,
Quick question , i am thinking about selling my Mac Mini and buying a Imac G5 , however ... I still use my Dell Dimension system. I was wondering if it is still possible to run my Dell Dimension, with the Imac G5 as my monitor ?
I know the isight and the remote probably won't work, but has anyone done this before ?

  • Dual Monitor Hook-up

I have a Dual 2.0 Powermac G5 and I was wondering if it is possible to hook-up two of the old style plastic Apple LCD displays?
I have one 17" Apple LCD hooked-up right now with a DVI to ADC connector. How do I hook-up a second?

I believe it has a NVIDIA Ge Force 6800 or a ATI Radeon 9600. On the back of the G5 is two DVI ports. One of them has the DVI to ADC adapter plugged into it, which has my old 17" Apple LCD display hooked-up to it. The other DVI port is empty. Do I have to buy another DVI to ADC adapter to hook-up another old Apple LCD?

  • Monitor hooked up to G3 powerbook is extension not mirrored

My screen went on my G3 powerbook black model. I hooked up a monitior but it is acting as an extension. There is no key on my key pad to change it to mirror plus my apple key does not work.
Anyone know how to switch this?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You've posted your topic in the "MacBook" forum. I think you'll find more help in the PowerBook G3 forum.

  • Tripple monitor hook up? WACOM!

So i have dual Dell displays and a Wacom graphics tablet. My goal was to be able to mirror one of the displays *or idealy be able to switch between the two* on my Cintiq. I have three ports and when all connected, the set up works fine. I can either have it as a three monitor spread, or mirror to all of them.
Is there a way this can be done?
    Thanks,
    CC

Click the ? near the bottom right of the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference for instructions on mirroring only two of the three displays. For best performance, the mirrored displays should use the same graphics card.

  • Using iMac G4 monitor for iBook G4

I am using a iBook G4 an got an iMac G4. Is there a way using the monitor of the iMac like an external monitor while working on my iBook?
    Thanks
    Japday

Not unless you learned how the monitor hooks up to the iMacs logic board, then rewired it to VGA or DVI port (somehow) and then hooked it up via your mini VGA or DVI connector on your iBook. In other words, if you did this, it your iMac would have no screen should you ever want to use it, unless you undid the hacking. It would be more trouble than its worth, lets put it that way.

  • What do i buy to hook up my ibook....

what do i buy to hook up my ibook g4 into my tv using the A/V plug??
do i hook up the --(Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter) to my ibook then hook up the --(Apple AV Cable for iBook) to the adapter??....
    thanks for the help...

You need to use the Apple Video Adapter M9109G/A to get a video signal.
Then you just need a male-to-male video patch cable to connect the adapter to your TV.
