IBook on MacBook

Is there a way to load a copy of iBook on my MacBook Pro or MacBook and synchronize all the books I bought for my iPad across all of my devises like Amazon allows me to do with Kindle?  I have not found a way to load iBook on my Mac's or to synch the purchased books across the machines.
Funny after Apples big announcement of the iCloud we can't do this and Amazon can.

Thanks for your reply.  You have confirmed my suspicions that you could not install iBooks on a Mac and synch via the bookstore.  Hopefully this will be part of Steve Job's iCloud implementation as they have all ready done with iTunes.  You can now download any purchases from iTunes to any iOS device (iBook, iPad, iPod) or to your Macs.  This happened with an iTunes update the day after Apples big OSx, iOS, and iCloud announcement.  It is incredibly cool and an awesome gesture by Apple to allow stuff to be shared across devices.
It is just simply frustrating to not be able to synch and share books across devices.  BTW, Kindle software from Amazon loads on all of my Apple devices and synchs everything I have ever purchased from them across all devices.  The reader is just as good as iBook and the books are comparably priced.
Don't get me wrong I love what Apple is doing but it is very frustrating not to be able to share books across all my devices.  Most times when I travel, I take my iPad but other times I have to take my MacBook and I don't want to carry both.

"When is apple going to make ibook for MacBook? "  There is no way to know when or if such a thing will happen unless Apple announces.

  • From iBook to MacBook, from '06 to '08: A big leap indeed!

I currently have an iBook. I have just purchased a new MacBook. I created a site using iWeb '06,
    and I need to:
    (1) transfer the website from iBook to MacBook
    (2) and go from '06 to '08.
How does one transfer a site from one computer to another? (Even if you copy the contents of your "sites" folder, iWeb doesn't create it, I've found when I tried to transfer from one user account to another.)
And will there be any problems going from '06 to '08?

    Hi xharris,
    1) Have a look at the following page about transferring the website from one computer to the other
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebTransferSite.html
(also read Note 1 of that page!)
    2) Be sure to update iWeb '08 to the latest version (2.0.3). Then double-click the domain file you transferred and iWeb will launch and prompt you to update the domain file to version 2.
The problems some people experience are that some objects might move and not be in the right place anymore or things like that. Just have a look at it once you opened it in iweb '08 before publishing it to the web.
Also make a Backup of the Domain file before- after- you updated and from time to time

  • Migration from G3 iBook to Macbook Pro 2.16

I bought a Macbook Pro Core2Duo 2.16 when I was in the States in January. Used Migration Assistant to transfer system from the iBook G3 (10.3.9) when I got home in February. No real problems (& the Pro is perfect -- and the great iBook is still in use) but there is a system confusion I caused and then ignored.
On login I have 2 user accounts where there should be one (me). One is in the name of the old system, Howard Dratch, and opens with the PW for the Pro and Tiger. The other is hfdratch which should have been the name for the new machine. It shakes off the PW for the MBP. I have been worried about logging in with it on iBook's PW wondering if I will enter some Panther ghost-system.
Also, in HD/Users(the folder with an icon)/Deleted Users there is a dmg file labeled hfdratch with 4.4GB. I haven't mounted it to see what comes out. Should it be there taking up 4+gigs?
Obviously I did something wrong when I migrated. Any suggestions as to whether to delete one of the user options on startup and what, if anything, to do to the dmg file would be appreciated.

An ethernet cable should go faster. That's how I did it yesterday. However, even so the Migration Assistant said it would take 5 hours. So I drilled down into the options and de-selected my music and my photos and just moved apps and account settings. After about 90 minutes I was up and running. At that point I enabled File Sharing on my old computer, then logged into it using Finder on the new one. I manually copied over my music and photos into the appropriate directories while I continued to work. Despite what Migration Assistant said, it only took about 90 more minutes to do that while I was actually writing a document in MS Word on the new one.

  • Anyone gone from a 12" iBook to MacBook, is it too wide (big)

    Hi,
I love my small 12" iBook G4 and was wondering with the extra width does it make it too big.
If someone has picture of both side by side, that would be great.
Does any one have pictures of the power supply next to an old one

If you are a fan of iBooks then these MacBooks will make you even happier.
The MacBooks are smaller and more easily carried about and more easily picked up and held than any iBook 12" and/or 14". If you're coming from a 14" iBook the screen will appear to be less as the MacBook's screen is some 1-1/2" less in height but same width as the 14" iBook's. The MacBook is noticeable easier to handle, lighter and thinner than a 14" iBook.

  • Going from an iBook to Macbook

How do I get my iPhoto library, all contents, tags and information into iPhoto in on my new Macbook? I tried to copy the whole directory from old to new but iPhoto only sees the directories/year folder but no photos were imported.
Please help. Everything has been SOO easy to move and work with but iPhoto and all my 9000 photos.

    Imelda:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What you want to do is copy your iBook's iPhoto Library folder intact into the Pictures folder on your Macbook. Move the iPhoto Library folder that's in there now to the desktop.
Once you've copied that folder into the Pictures folder just launch iPhoto. It will find the library folder and open your library. If the iPhoto version on the iBook is at V5 then the library will be updated to V6 when iPhoto opens it.
    Do you Twango?

  • Ibook to Macbook

A company that i interned with for the summer order an ibook for me. The only problem is apple now has updated mackbooks. I was wondering if i could take it in to the apple store and pay the difference for a macbook or higher

    Hey Mariam.
You can return your iBook if you do it within 14 days of receiving it. If not, Apple has usually not been in the business of taking trade-ins. You could go the route of selling yours on ebay or some other online service.
One other note, if you are using Photoshop or Indesign they are not yet universal. Some say, on a MacBook, they run around the same speed as a slower G4.
The iBook is a decent computer, I just recently got a refurb, and I expect it to serve me for a couple of years.

  • Ibook to macbook pro

hello there. i have the g4 ibook, and i am wondering what is the best way to transfer my important files that i will need on my new macbook pro. i have iphoto, itunes, address book, files that i would like to transfer. i also have quicktime files that are located on a folder called shared which i obtained through limewire. i have done a little research in the discussions, but i would like some concrete answers on the most effective/cheapest way of doing this. thank you

    Hi Trailer,
What do you exactly mean by erasing your libraries? Do you mean erase them from your previous computer? You can just drag them to the folders to the Trash and then go to Finder > Empty Trash. This might take some time, but it should delete your iPhoto/iTunes folder. Do you want to wipe all the contents off your iBook? If so, let us know; we can walk you through it.

    Niel,
When transferring over to the MacBook Pro via Migration Assistant, would items in the InputManger folder cause any minor problems (slow it down a bit)? I have read some articles that say that this items in this folder has cause the MacBook Pro to run little slower then it should be. With iTunes should one select Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized before moving it with Migration Assistant? Just wondering, I didn't use Migration Assistant.

  • Cannot install Leopard 10.5.4 on iBook G4, MacBook

    Hello,
I have a retail DVD of the Leopard 10.5.4 install disk, and I cannot get it to install on my machine (iBook G4, 1.0 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM). After inserting the disk and restarting the computer, I never get to the "select language" screen - it just stalls on the boot screen with the gray apple logo and the gray pinwheel. I tried the DVD on a friends' MacBook and encountered the same problem. Next, I tried it on an old eMac that I have and did NOT have such a problem. What gives? Could this be a faulty DVD? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

This is the original DVD, not a copy? It sounds like a bad DVD, or bad drives.

  • Moving iPhoto 4 to iPhoto 6 (iBook to MacBook)

What is the best way to migrate pictures from iPhoto4 on my iBook to iPhoto6 on my new Macbook? I would also like to move my original albums over at the same time.
    Thanks!

While it's true you lose all of your edits,
albums and film rolls etc it does give you a
perfectly clean library. The library folder structure
is rather easy to figure out so if you've had enough
and want to start anew you can.
i did this too... kind of... it would take hours to go in to each folder to do this so i spotlite the iphoto library folder and searched "originals". it popped up with a lot of folders i presumed to be the originals to my library... but it gave me a bunch of copies like the last time so i erased the whole library and re imported it through the firewire, looked for any thing that saig iphoto on it and matched it the the system folders that it was in on the macbook book to make it think that it had simply upgraded... no dice... this is exactly what it said to me:
Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.
    starts to update
there is a problem up accessing one or more files in you iphoto library
then it tells me to allow the it to read and write in the folder... and when i try that it stops me... i tried going year by year and it stops me at 2005... i have yrt to go month by month in that year but, as you can see... this problem has gotten of of hand... somebody save me

I bought a book from itunes and its accessible on my Macbook Air, however when i open the book on my ipad mini i am met with this message" it is formatted incorrectly or it is not a format that iBook can open" please help..

  • Connecting & Using G3 iBook With MacBook Pro

I am planning to buy a MacBookPro shortly when I am in the States. Will I be able to connect to my iBook G3 on 10.3.9 (640mb) both to transfer files and to use the iBook as an external hard-drive (bootable)?
If so, do I need anything more than the connecting cable and maybe some software like SuperDuper?
Again, the question that is probably unanswerable -- can I buy a refurbished MacBook Pro or are they just recycled lemons? My wallet needs the price tag, my head doesn't need more problems.
ibook 900mhz,640mb,40GB ice dual USB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You'll be able to connect your iBook although it will NOT be bootable. The Mac OS X version on Intel systems is different to that of the PowerPC systems.

  • Macbook pro, ibook, or macbook?

which is the better laptop; an ibook g4, a macbook , or the macbook pro?

You didn't mention what you are planning to do with the laptop. If you're looking for a basic system to do word processing, email, and web surfing, the ibook is more than adequate, runs cooler, and is much less expensive. If you're wanting to do more with your system, especially things which require more processor power, then you simply can't beat the new intel systems.
As for pro vs macbook, there are plenty of other threads on this list that can give you some tips. A quick comparison:
MB ram max is 2GB, MBP is 3GB
    MBP has faster processor options
Screen on MBP is larger - up to 17"
hard drive in MB is user-upgradeable, not in MBP
MBP graphics are faster than MB
MBP has expressCard slot for future upgrade options
    MBP has a back-lit keyboard
Some people really don't like the keyboard on the MB; it's a bit different than most folks are used to, though in actual use it's pretty nice.
Try to visit a mac store or other retailer and check out the differences yourself. The differences between the MBP and MB are relatively minor; for most users, the MB is more than adequate. Kind of depends what you want to use it for.
To Alan E: Interesting observation about the temperature of your MBP - every C2D MBP I've gotten my hands on gets uncomfortably hot during heavy processor use. Try running an app like the Prey demo available on the apple software site - it will warm your machine up. Guaranteed. I agree about the speed of the laptop, though - it's really fast.
Oh, and madeMacx: you can disable the keyboard backlight if you find it annoying. It's nice when you actually need it, but the novelty wears off pretty quickly
