Ibook portable power adaptor

The cords on the power adaptors seem to wear out at either or both ends. The break in the cord is so close to both the plug and, or the power brick that a solder is not possible. The plug comes apart and with a little shrink tube and epoxy is back in service but I can't get the brick apart without some serious damage. Any one have a technique to separate the halves of the brick? Thanks

The only ways I've seen (online repair hints) to open the plastic case
has been to pry the halves apart; and some home repair persons have
used tape to put the halves together again, to make a repeat job easy.
+Which model iBook do you have, requiring further AC adapter repair?+
That was noted in a few site pages, showing duct tape holding the sad
little plastic halves together in an awful unsightly unfashionable way...!

For my iBook G4, I have three adapters. An early white 45w with non-grounded
two-pin wall plug on a long cord, a later white 65w with long cord and toggle head;
& an unused original adapter sealed in plastic that came with my mid-2005 iBook.
So far, the two in use do nicely and look almost like new. The third one still is new.
Hopefully the link contents help.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Is ibook g4s power adaptor and ibook g3 snows power adaptor same

hi.im buy a ibook g3 snow but it doesn't have a power adaptor.so i wanna buy a ibook g4's power adaptor.is is ibook g4s power adaptor and ibook g3s power adaptor same?

it will work but it is not advisable, ibook g3 requires a rating less amperage than the G4 and therefore comes with a 45w power supply (1.85 x 24.5 V) not 65W (2.65 x 24.5). Using the 65W the battery will wear out first and the logic board will be subjected to greater sress reducing life itself

  • 65W  Portable Power Adaptor problem

The plug-in that has the electrical prong on my 65W Portable Power Adaptor is shorting out and nonfunctioning. When I tried to find that prong replacement I was told I had to buy an entirely new 65W PPA for $79. Does anyone know where I can purchase JUST the electral prong plug-in for the 65W PPA?

Reset the PMU (power management unit) and re-calibrate the Battery - if that has no effect call Apple about a replacement.

  • Power adaptor compatibility?

I have a G3 Dual USB 500MHz iBook with power adaptor problems. The model of the adaptor is M7332 (with the small plug). There appears to be a break somewhere in the power cord to the wall, not in the yo-yo part of the adaptor itself.
I have an older adaptor from an orange clamshell iBook. Although the yo-yo part will not fit (it has the large plug), the cord to the wall part appears to be identical (other than color).
Do you think that I could safely use the older cord with the newer adaptor? I tried it and it works, but I'm still reluctant to use it continuously. Any ideas?

Thank you for your helpful response to my posting.
I checked the link that you offered; however, this listing only shows one type of yo-yo style adaptor (the one with the big plug). I have a feeling that my iBook (which was one of the very first small white G3 iBooks) is a bit of a hybrid between old and new because the dual USB iBooks that shipped a few months later had the newer square style of power adaptor.
I know that there are two types of yo-yo adaptors because I have both in front of me at this moment. Unfortunately, they both have the same model number M7332 (part number 922-4323?). They appear to vary only in the size of the plug at the computer/cord connection.
Can I assume that since the adaptors have the same model number (despite the plugs being different sizes) that they would use the same AC power cord (part number 922-4529?) to connect them to the wall?
    Thanks again.

  • Using power adaptor plugs with iBook charger

I bought the iPod USB Power adaptor from Singapore and it came with a power adaptor plug that is used in the States. Can I use that plug and slot it into my iBook charger? Will it work? I've tried putting it in and the connection's fine but it doesn't look like a perfect fit externally.

    Hi Ernest,
    Three criteria must be respected:
    1) Voltage and Power compatibility:
The electrical specs on the iPod USB Power adaptor must match the ones that come out of the iBook charger. (you may need a magnifying glass, but they read somewhere, it's the law) Most probably all this stuff is International 100-240V/50-60Hz, but you must make sure.
However the Amperes (or the Watts) values often differ, so watch this carefully.
    2) No loose contact:
Although shapes can look weird, if at least contacts are always touching tightly, that's fine.
    3) Security:
If you can see enough metal for the cat to put her nose on it... ... ...
Another solution is to warn the cat
--> Find a shape adapter if electrical specs match:
Adapters are not all multiple, expensive devices. Find a cheap one that fits only between Singapore and the US.
    Hope this helps.

  • Broken Power Adaptor - part stuck in ibook

    Hi,
The centre metal pin on my power adaptor has broken off and is stuck in the adaptor socket on my ibook. I can (with a bit of wiggling) get the adaptor plug in the socket and it does charge, but it isn't ideal and I'm worried about creating further damage.
Has anyone experienced this before? Can you tell me how I can get the bit of metal out of the socket?
    Thanks

I shall be interested to know what happened with you Lukas.
Annoying thing is that I can hear and see the pin inside the socket. It seems ridiculous that you should need to replace a whole powerboard when, in my case, you could probably get it out at the right angle.
I'm amazed that the pin broke off in the first place. I have enjoyed my ibook but have been disappointed by it's flimsiness. One of the rubber feet broke off when I first bought it and now 18 months later the adaptor breaks, even though it has been used sparingly and within normal parameters.
I am prepared to accept the consequences of not having applecare, but not when the problem appears to be the result of an apparent design fault.

  • Round vs square power adaptor iBook G3 500

Just bought a g3 500 ibook as a travel / backup / disposable / whatever, works fine but it came with the round power adaptor & I already have a number of square ones lying around. The light in the top of the power plug doesn't change color but apart from that, the square ones seem to work. Any danger here?
(mysteriously ebough, the battery from the old G3 ibook I bought this one to replace seems to have crawled out of the grave and is now holding a substantial charge -- weird.)

However, that adapter ring should change color from amber to green once the battery is charged, regardless of the model of G3 (Dual USB) iBook.
Congratulations on what seems to be a great deal!

  • G3 iBook wakes up as soon as the power adaptor is plugged in

My sleeping iBook will wake up (even with lid closed) as soon as I plugged in the power adaptor. Also, if the power adaptor is plugged in, closing the lid won't put the iBook to sleep. Instead, the sleep light will come on for a few seconds, and then disappears and I can hear the hard disk spinning up, then the sleep light will appear again and the cycle repeats...But when I then open the lid, the iBook will then go to sleep!!!
This only happens if the iBook is in power adaptor mode. In battery mode, the iBook will sleep just fine by just closing the lid.
I repaired permissions and reset the PRAM, but to no avail. What could be wrong?

    Hi Missy L,
I don't know wether reinstalling Tiger would help. It might very well be a hardware problem. Did your iBook come with a hardware test CD? In that case, start from CD (insert CD and restart while holding down the "C" key) and run the Hardware Test. Maybe it will show something. Re-installing should only be your last resort.

  • Which Power Adaptor

    Hi guys,
I have an iBook G4 (late 2004) and stupidly left the power adaptor in a hotel last weekend. I am looking to get a replacement, but having trouble figuring out which to get - the 45w or 65w adaptor. The tech page below seems to suggest the 45w version, but all the resellers on eBay selling the 45w adaptor don't list the "late 2004" model as a compatible one. Anyone who could give me a helping hand would be much appreciated. I am from the UK, and bought my laptop from the UK online store (if this makes any difference).
    Many thanks,
    Tony
P.S. My iBook battery is getting very long in the tooth and I've been looking at the high-capacity Newertech NuPower batteries. Anyone have any experience with these?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you haven't already, by all means call the hotel and see if they still have yours and will send it to you--it's worth a try.
The US Apple Store lists the 65W as a replacement. You could call your Apple Store and ask--they can confirm whether the 65W is OK for your particular iBook. Or you could spot search the on line store. But from what I remember reading on this forum, the 65W will be fine. But it's always safest to check directly with Apple. And considering how easily damaged the power adaptors are, it might be worth considering a new one.
As for the battery--no idea. I never had to buy a battery.
    Good luck!

  • My macbook wont switch on even if power adaptor is lit up

After updating to yosemite, my sons was watching you tube then probably due to duration of watching, it turned of due to low battery, but i tried to charge it, and it wont start. The power adaptor is lit and its green which should mean that the charging is full. But it wont start up.

  • Third party power adaptor for MacBook Pro?

I am about to lose my second power pack due to under-engineered wiring on these Apple power supplies. The wires are very small and thin, and the strain relief at the entrance to the "brick" is totally inadequate, so the wires end up breaking under daily use. I looked at the iGo website, only to find out that there is some sort of licensing issue with Apple that prevents them from selling tips for the magnetic connectors that are in vogue. Kensington apparently doesn't supply any Apple adaptors anymore.
Does anyone know of a third party company that makes a replacement power supply that will hold up under normal usage for more than a year?
    Thanks

    Hi Justin,
The very first of the square power adaptors (which came with an early white iBook) which we own developed a problem of the kind you mention. Since then we've done one simple thing with all of the many that have followed with a variety of iBooks, PBs, MBs and MBPs, and never lost another.
We simply make a loose loop of the cord around one of the "legs" of the adaptor:
We leave the loop in place both when using the computer and when winding the cord around the legs for transport.
Not what you were asking for, I know, but it has certainly stopped any problems we have had with strain on the cord
    Cheers

  • IBook G3 Power/charge problem

I have a ibook G3. It doesn't charge properly (taking two days to charge to 6% which drains in minutes when turned on)
I have reset the PMU with the little button on the side. I have also tried plugging in the power adaptor with and without the battery in place to see if I can use it that way but it makes no difference. I can see it recognises that a charger is plugged in (I've bought a new charger/adaptor thinking that may have been the problem but it makes no difference)it is just not utilising the power. What can I do?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
You may need to replace the battery.

  • Use power adaptor or battery

When to use which (Macbook Pro)?  Use the battery at all times and drain then recharge or just when an outlet is not available?

That was copied and pasted from the article named above under the sub heading "Standard Maintenance".  I did read that.  But that does not really describe how I use the computer.  I do not travel with it much.  I use it more like a desktop.  I purchased the notebook because of it's small footprint and portability.  I use it in various places around the home on a daily basis.  Wherever I am there is an electrical outlet handy.  If I follow the principal of discharging and recharging once per month then I would be using the power adaptor almost constantly.  Is this truly recommended?

  • Power adaptor light flashing orange to green

starting this morning my power adaptor seems to have an issue. the light keeps flashing back and forth bewteen orange and green. and therefore the computer wont really charge. it will operate plugged in this way though.
last week part of my cord did get damaged. the little bumpy part right next to the plug that goes into the computer. the first little bump of the three somehow came off. there does not seem to be a hole or tear in the cord under where it was though.
what purpose does that section serve? is that what is causing my problem?
    any ideas?
my computer is one year and one month old, grrrr no longer under waranty...
    ~ michelle

    Hi Michelle,
Given the sloppy design of the iBook, including its power adapter, I would suggest you bite the bullet and buy a new adapter. Otherwise your iBook's DC board may be damaged.
Resetting the PMU helps, as does unplugging both ends of the pwr adapter, waiting for at least 1 minute and plugging it back in. BUT, since you're sure the cable is broken, GET A NEW ONE!
I had a similar problem with my power adapter for my 3-month old iBook, except that the light would suddenly not turn green at all. The cord and the rest of the adapter were intact. I was lucky I still had 7 months of warranty left and got a new adapter from Apple. So far everything is ok.
    Good luck, Michelle!

  • Power adaptor warranty

Is there any sort of warranty on the power adaptors? I am on my second power adaptor and it has stopped working after about 7 months. I'm hoping there is a one year warranty on it, since $70 is an outrageous price for an adaptor that won't even last a year. I can't find any of the documentation that came with the adaptor.

when my iBooks power adapter cable broke after about 11 months of use (frayed by the connector and eventually broke in two), I called up applecare, and they replaced it no questions asked. Of course 7 months later when my logicboard died, they offered no help (out of warranty), so now I have a working power adapter, but an ibook that won't boot.
I am happy to say though that the powercord for the macbooks are thicker, and will hopefully hold up more to the bending pressure than the ibooks one did.
