IBook sleeps immediately and doesn't respond

Hello all,
I'm having some trouble with my iBook G4 and I was hoping someone could help. Here's the scoop:
I've had the computer for about a year and a half and it's been functioning quite well for the duration of my ownership (purchased new). Unfortunately, as with many laptops I have come across, the hard drive recently began to slow down and so I made the decisions to upgrade to a new / bigger disk.
Cut to the chase -> I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the old drive to an image on a G4 Tower and installed the new hard drive following these directions:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/83.14.0.html
The new hard drive appears to function with no difficulties and it's initialized, formatted, etc. All the information was successfully copied back using Carbon Copy Cloner.
After installation I went ahead and reset the NVRAM and zapped the PRAM (might have made my mistake here) afterwhich I've been experiencing my problem (I didn't try a normal boot before this). The iBook will boot up to the login screen, at which time I have no control over the trackpad and keyboard, and then it will immediately enter sleep mode and not awaken. Here's the troubleshooting I've tried so far:
- Resetting the NVRAM via Apple + Option + N + V at boot.
- Zapping the PRAM via Apple + Option + P + R at boot.
- Entering the Open Firmware via Apple + Option + O + F and entering nvram-reset, set-default, & reset-all.
- Booting with the installation DVD and verifying / repairing both the permissions and the drive.
Interestingly:
If I boot with the battery removed (using only the power cord) I regain function of the trackpad and keyboard. The system will allow me to login to OS X but it will enter the "eternal sleepmode" in about 15 seconds.
Also, If I boot with no battery as mentioned above but then connect the battery, it will immediately enter sleep mode.
Sometimes I'm seeing the screen dim with visible graphics before it enters sleep mode. Additionally, the grey Apple logo is failing to appear upon boot and the first image I see is the loading / login screen. I'm pretty lost here so if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. Otherwise I'm off to the Apple Store either tomorrow or Tuesday.
Thanks in advance!

Brent,
Hm...unfortunately I didn't try running the machine without first transferring the old information back. I was trying to get everything the same as it was in the past (OS, Apps, etc.) so I left the HD blank until the transfer.
I forgot to mention that when I was moving material back to the iBook after the hard drive upgrade (in Target Disk mode), the firewise screensaver dimmed and froze. The transfer was still successful but the screen symptoms were very similar to what I'm experiencing now (no sleep mode though).
I'm going to run the hardware test now and post the results. Thanks for the reply.

my ipod touch 4th gen froze! only blank white screen and doesn't respond when turned off or connected to my laptop!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • When I turn on my iPad and. Go onto the Internet the wireless router cuts off and the Internet stops working and doesn't respond

    Hello,
When I turn on my iPad 2 and go onto the safari and go onto google the wireless router cuts off and turns the Internet off and the Internet doesn't respond and then after I have to turn the router off and turn it on and then it is back to normal it has happening when I recently updated the new iOS 6 on my iPad since then it was been doing this please can you help and help me sort the problem out
    Thanks

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Toshiba satelite S855-S5188 Freaks out and doesn't respond

Hey, i bought a Toshiba Satelite S855-S5188 from NewEgg.com about two months ago, at first i thought it was nothing, which then Subsequently it ceased to occur for a period of time but now it has been starting back up, this time i have to Shut it down in order to stop it from continuing and to gain control of it again.
What happens is, Randomly, With no specific Action, it becomes Unresponsive, like when i type it doens't want to type and then it Zooms in and out Crazy like, not only that the Cap locks seems to freak out as well, like the light that shows Caps are on is lit up, but the keys come out as if it's off and then the numbers come out as symbols as if i am Holding the Shift key down. this doesn't seem to happen with any one application, it happens when i play World of Warcraft or just simply turn the laptop on to log into Facebook and  i am sending a message. I hope it's something Easily fixed and this is my first Toshiba Laptop ever, as i only ever had two laptops this one included, but if some people are expierencing the same issue and such a response on the matter would be much appreciated, Thanks!
    Solved!

Since it's under warranty, Matthew, I would call Tech Support at 1-800-457-7777 about the problem.  When you first got it, it could have been immediately exchanged for another by NewEgg. I believe you have had a bad keyboard from the beginning.  The repair will be free under warranty.

  • ITunes crashes and doesn't respond every time I open it.

iTunes worked fine when I had it with my first iPod. I then lost this one and got a new one and since then whenever I open up iTunes it works for about 10 seconds and then fails to respond. I then have to CtrlAltDel to exit the programme where every time it says "this programme is not responding"
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes but with no joy.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You have to update your QuickTime. iTunes is codependent on QuickTime and if you have the most recent version of iTunes and an older version of QuickTime then iTunes will not function properly, go figure. I discovered that QuickTIme does not always update with iTunes and therefore requires you to separately update QuickTime.

  • I was recently attacked by registry dr and conduit malware. Malware has been removed, but since then thunderbird is slow and doesn't respond. How do I fix it?

I was attached by registry doctor and several conduit malware programs. I had the malware removed from my computer. But ever since them thunderbird has been very slow or not resonding at all. l have uninstalled and reinstalled thunderbird twice. The first time it seemed like it fixed the problem for a few minutes, but then it stopped respondig.
I have tried opening in safe mode, and the first time it seemed like it worked better, but before long it stopped responding.
Any idea what the problem is and what to do about it?

See if any of this helps. My guess is that it is your McAfee.

  • In task manager windows 7 64 bit, Firefox.exe *32 won't end after Firefox locks up and doesn't respond and windows closed.

My firefox browser window locks up...I wait way to long and nothing updates, I close the window. Try to open Firefox again, but can't as system detects a copy running. Task manager shows Firefox.exe *32 running. I click on Firefox.exe *32 and click close....wait and nothing closes.
REBOOT - yeah for about 30 minutes when it happens again.

I am a proud user of Firefox. I started experiencing the freezing problem since i updated to Firefox 18 and now I am facing the same problem with Firefox 19. Firefox does not respond to any of my clicks and then I have to close it using Task Manager. This is happening frequently and randomly. It does not freeze on a particular site or anything else. It just freezes randomly. Please do reply if anyone has a solution to this problem.

  • My 4th generation iPod touch is completetly frozen... Doesn't respond to home   turn off command, it's not being recognized by iTunes. It only shows a white screen and doesn't respond to nothing

    can someone help me?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes stopped working and doesn't respond

My iTunes stopped working all of the sudden. It just will not launch. I read resolution of similar incidents and tried them all including running the chkdsk it's done successfully, but I'm still facing the same problem. I've been to many forums with similar issues. Initially I followed everything on apple support page with no luck, then went for all suggestions in other forums, downloaded cleanup program and deleted all problem files, uninstalled and reinstalled the last version from apple site with no use. It doesn't give me any error message it just does nothing! And 90% when I restart my PC, I get a message saying that itunes is running and needs to be shut down, so I press end now and restart, I've been doing that all day since yesterday with no luck at all. Then when I double click the itunes to open, it says "checking itunes library" but then it stops and nothing happens. I tried plugging my i-touch maybe it will force it to launch, but no response. HELP! Please..

I am having all sorts of problems with 9.1.1.Crashes and not only iTunes but I have to restart all the time.
    GET TO WORK APPLE !!!!
