Ibook stuck in booting trying to install wrong o/s

tried to install Leopard on IbookG4. Machine stuck in endless booting loop. Swithed on and off but always goes back to booting from installation cd. cant get the loop to stop tried t-apple -esc to force quit but to not avail

Did you use a retail copy of Leopard and was the install successful?
If you want to eject the disc, hold down the trackpad button while the computer boots.

Reset iPad and continue with update.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

  • Stuck at boot screen after installing updates.

I was prompted to install updates. Got a message stating that the updates couldn't be installed and that the system will be restarted. When booting it gets stuck at the apple screen with a spinning wheel. A progressbar appears for a while and ticks to about 5% and then disappears. If I leave it there nothing happens for hours except the computer getting very hot.
I've tried to use keyboard commands to boot in either safe mode or from a CD but I can't get them to work.

    Thankful for any suggestions.

  • My iBook crashed.  I tried to install the original factory OS 10.1.4, but it wouldn't let me select the hard drive because it was read-only.  I was using classic OS 9 when it crashed.  I tried to install OS 9, but it's the same problem.  HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really need my OS 9 because I a lot of software that use it.

Hi Ronda!  Thank you for trying to help me.  I don't think I know the hard drive capacity, but it wasn't much for the G3.  (I don't know what capacity means).
The space available on it:  I didn't have anything on it except what was factory default applications and they were empty.  For example, no movies, no songs, no photos, and no documents.
I'm not sure; I was in OS X 10.1.4 when I had to go into settings and choose classic OS 9, but I think I had to reboot in order to use OS 9.
Yes, I held down the C key during start-up.  Is there anyway to fix the hard drive?  Do I still have a hard drive?  Who would fix my old iBook?  It was fine before it crashed.  I had a DVD in the DVD player that taught math.  I didn't download anything.

  • Ibooks stuck on installing update on ipad 3

Ipad 3 tried an update on ibooks and it continually tries to install.

Had the same problem for nearly a week and eventually fixed it by single tappping the app’s icon on the home screen which paused/stopped the download/installation (I then got a pop-up saying it couldn't be updated & to try again later). Now go back to the Apps store, switch to the “Updates” screen and tap “Update” to resume the download.

  • Stuck on grey screen trying to install 10.5

    Hi,
A friend of mine has been given an eMac 1ghz running 10.4. She connects to the internet by a wireless 3G dongle but the installation software requires a more recent version of java than is installed on the eMac and needs to download an update but is not able to use the internet so she's in a catch 22 situation.
I decided the best option would be to install 10.5 as the eMac appears to have the correct spec (just!) but have so far been unable to. I have tried to install from both a full retail dvd and a copy on a FireWire drive. On both occasions the disc mounts on the desktop but once the emac is restarted to begin installation the discs spin and I get to the grey apple screen with the spinning timer but the it just gets stuck. It is exactly the same for both the dvd and the FireWire drive.
There is nothing plugged in except the keyboard and mouse. I wondered if it could be a firmware problem but again I cannot check that as it can't get on-line. I have replaced the pram battery and reset it. I wondered if it could be a hard drive problem and will take my old 10.3 discs round next time to see whether I can boot from that disc and check the hard drive.
Does anyone have any ideas? I can always download stuff at my house and take it to hers on a disc as long as I know what to download.
    Any help is gratefully received.

Is the Leopard 10.5 DVD a retail full-install version, or one that shipped
with a different Macintosh computer? It has to be a retail version to work.
Some eMac models with lesser than ideal graphic processors are not
best suited to run Leopard; but some users have made it go anyway.
The usual progression of Java updates, continue from whatever version
the OS X has in it currently and builds with additional downloads. So, if
you can get the Standalone downloads in the correct order as needed
from Apple Support Downloads (right now I don't have a precise list)
for the OS X version you are contemplating the need, it could work.
You should stay at Tiger 10.4 (.11) if the computer had been working
OK, and make sure the hardware is in good condition and has as
much RAM installed as the computer supports; then be certain the
Leopard install DVD is proper and did not come from a different Mac.
Leopard requires 512MB of RAM to 'bare-bones' work; and plenty of
free space available for the system and apps to use, since this will
rely on Virtual Memory (space on hard drive used automatically by
the OS X as virtual RAM along with all the chip RAM you can supply)
in order for an OS X system to work fairly well. At least 1GB RAM, too.
{There probably are other aspects of the question and ways of interpreting
them; and I am being interrupted here at the precise times I need to think
    about the question I'm writing to... but I can't get the annoyance to stop.}
So hopefully you can check and test the computer before upgrading the OS
and have the correct Leopard 10.5 disc if you go that way; and enough RAM
plus a large enough hard disk drive with alot of empty space available.
Which model eMac is the one in question? 700/800/1.0/1.25/1.42?
PS: *A list of progressive Java updates* in Mac OS X 10.4 (.11) looks like this:
The list in my 10.4.11 system in use now, looks like this:
    J2SE50Release4.pkg
    J2SE50Release3.pkg
    JavaForMacOSX10.4Release9.pkg
    JavaForMacOSX10.4Release8.pkg
    JavaForMacOSX10.4Release7.pkg
    JavaForMacOSX10.4Release6.pkg
    JavaForMacOSX10.4Release5.pkg
    Java131and142Release2.pkg
    Java.pkg
(And the numbers may reflect the date of installation
since their order is not totally numerical. Among the
updates, there may be some related to the Security
Updates. Be sure to install the Last security update
and it should include many of the older secure items.)

I'm trying to install windows 8 on mac, but after partitioning and restarting, it stucks on blue logo and i waited 20 minutes but nothing happened, what can i do, please help.

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
    restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
    restart boot camp assistant
    Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.

  • Bootcamp Assistant... Trying to Install and STUCK

Please help!!!! I spent half of the day today trying to install windows via bootcamp on my mac and am completely stuck.  I have gotten no where.
I have a iMac 27 inch late 2013 with 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB memory, 10.10.2 Yosemite. I’ve got more than 600 GB free space.  I am trying to install windows 8.1 via the disks.
I followed the instruction manual for bootcamp located here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf although it seems like it’s a bit old because it talks about software update off the apple menu.  It is made for windows 8.  I also followed this: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468.
I have searched many others that asked this question and have tried their suggestions but I am still stuck.
Here are the steps I took:
Made my own ISO from the 64 bit windows 8 disk.
Opened bootcamp, selected all 3 of the boxes – downloaded the updates, etc.
Partitioned the drive so that there is 199gb dedicated to Windows.
It then gets stuck on the partitioning disk screen.  It looks like it’s 100% done on the status bar as soon as I push install, but then nothing else happens.
I had previously gotten past this screen, booted to windows, and when I tried selecting the partition to install windows on, it gave me an error message: “Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.” I tried clicking “format” but that didn’t help.  I read a post where a person recommended to partition the drive via Disk Utility instead. I tried that but then got a new error…. So I used the bootcamp assistant to put back to one single partition and remove everything I did.  I deleted the data on the USB drive and started over.   Here I am now – stuck on the bootcamp screen trying to partition the disk.
When I go to disk utility, it only shows one partition with my full 1 TB of storage.
Also, if you are kind enough to answer, please take me step by step because I am great at following instructions but don’t know how to do this off-hand.  J

Okay - I figured it out!  I repaired the disk in Disk Utility and then just selected the third box.  That allowed it to get past where it was stuck and then the whole install went smoothly.

If you have a PPC Mac, you can't install Windows unless you are using something like Parallels or a virtual application.  If you are using Boot Camp, eject the disc, reboot and try again.

  • Trying to install boot rom update on 10.7.3 - but will not

I'm trying to install boot camp and I can't install until I update the BOOT ROM.  I've downloaded the package macmini2011efiupdate.pkg and this coorsponds with my 5.2 model identifier.  I have already updated lion to 10.7.3 and I seem to think that maybe the boot rom update was intended for 10.7.2 and it won't let me install on 10.7.3 because it thinks it isn't compatible?
The message I get when I try to install the Boot ROM update is this software is not supported by your system.
    Sincerely, Kevin

Same feeling here... I am not advocate of mac. I bought one only for iPhone development. However the hardware is cool, it is my main home PC with Windows 7. For the OSX I left only 80GB disk space and the rest goes for Windows. Well, things would have been different if the OSX was workable the moment I bought it but it was not the case until this EFI update. Now I do not even think of get rid of the Windows.
Back to your case, what is wrong with your mac so you long for the update so badly? From the link you provided I gathered that your mini 5.2 is the one with ATI Radeon discrete graphic. Are there any problems with those? I thought only the HD3000 were so "crappy" because they were the cheapest version.
Anyway, if you slow down, do not expect too much, you will just gradually get used to the OSX philosophy. It's just different than Windows or Linux (on purpose I think). If you lunch Finder and Navigate to Application->Utilities there are the very useful things for start: "Grab" let you do screen capture and "Console" is like the EventViewer on Windows. You should lunch the Console, select "All Messages" and try the update again - look if there is anything logged from the update package which might help. You can also try to reset the SMC and check if that would help - if I remember correctly, the procedure is to unplug everything from the mini, wait ~5 minutes, plug only the power cord keeping the power button pressed for ~1 minute. The funny thing about that is that you have to follow it literally, I left the mouse and keyboard connected and I got wierd result - the fan was keeping at maximum speed. But try to verify the exact procedure on apple web, sorry I am a bit lazy now to search for it again ( I did it because I was desperate about fixing the sleep-resume problem). Anyway, again I would recommend not touching anything if you do not have any problems with your mac just because it does not want to "get something new". Just a common sense
Well, sory I just have scrolled up, and see your originall post why are you about the EFI update. It's really bad the Boot Camp does such check. It really does not make sense. You can do the install manually if you like, it's not so complicated. First go to disk management app in the Utility folder, and partition your disk formating the new one as FAT32 (the one which would be your windows partition). Next boot your minit keeping left alt pressed - you should see a list of booting devices so if you connected USB DVD (or pen drive with Windows - it's simple to do it yourself, just google for the recipe) you can boot the windows install. During the installation select the FAT32 partition and let Windows format it as NTFS and that's all. You can download from apple web a package for all drivers for Windows 7, and just install it in your windows. To choose which os you would like to boot, you can always do the left-alt select. I opted for installing rEFIt - it's really cool boot menu.

  • Trying to install Lion. says this disk is not enabled (journaled) - but when I look at the drive it actually is os extended journaled - Stuck! Have tried repair disk permissions and still no luck

trying to install Lion. says this disk is not enabled (journaled) - but when I look at the drive it actually is os extended journaled - Stuck! Have tried repair disk permissions and still no luck - any thoughts? Have spent two weeks trying to get apple support and itunes to help me get lion after a hard drive fail and now they are closed and I really just want to get moving!

Are you installing OS X Lion over an existing installation of Snow Leopard, or are you reinstalling?
First be sure you have everything on your system backed up. Then reboot with the Command-R keys held to get to the OS X Lion recovery volume. In here, select Disk Utility and use the First Aid tab in here to run a verification on your boot drive. If there are any errors, fix them and then try the installation again.
The next step would be to format the drive, so with your backup secured, use Disk Utility's Erase tab to re-format the drive to Mac OS X Extended (journaled), and then quit Disk Utilty and attempt the installation again.

  • Installing printer driver in Classic when ibook won't boot from OS 9-help!

Hi all. Thanks in advance for reading. I posted this in the ibook section but upon doing more searching, I think this forum is the better one. Hope that's okay to do.
I am trying to print an old financial file for tax purposes from Classic. No print drivers are installed in the OS 9 environment (chooser only shows default OS 9 apple printers).
I tried adding a printer in OS 9 through the chooser and my network printer did not show up. Support site at apple advised an install of the driver in OS 9.
When I try to install an HP print driver in OS 9 (already installed in X), I am flummoxed because I can't get my ibook 12" to startup in OS9 (it's not an option in startup disk and the Apple support site tells me that my newer computer can't startup in OS 9).
I've tried to install in the Classic environment without booting from it. When I am running Classic and I insert the disk with printer drivers, it's only seen by the OS X environment. When I start the installer, the only option is on my hard drive as viewed by OS X.
Other than laying out bucks to purchase a new version of Quick Books (just to print out old documents), how can I enable printing from Classic? Is there a roundabout way to install the printer drivers? HP site offered no real help. Thanks for any assitance. Lori

    Hi John,
Thanks for your suggestion. There is only one HP installer. It must be a smart installer since it can work for OS 9 or X. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to make it "dumb" again.....selecting a custom install doesn't allow me to choose operating system or destination for install. Any other ideas? Thanks.

I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp but Boot Camp Assistant i showing an error that the disk cannot be portioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disc and use disk utility to format it was a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant Again.
I had already installed teh first time Windows on my MacBook Air and Mac Book Pro. Actually I had more issues to install on the pro than Air.
But my Macbook Air had an issue on November 2013, 3 weeks after buying it and Apple gave me a new MacBook Air but they only transferred the information on my mac and the windows partion was lost according to them, they could copy it in to my new MacBook Air. Now that I am trying to install my windows I can not access to the aprtion section and get the error message from above.
What can I do to to install it? I am using a 32GB USB and OEM Windows 8 at USB External Drive. The same I used before. I dont know understand what changed if I did it before?
