Ibook turned into a pdf

when all my purchased ibooks went to iCloud one came back as only a PDF! This $20 book WAS a reference book for me, including dozens of notes over a year and a half. NOw ALL the notes are gone, the book is a PDF and I can't create any NEW notes, alter the font, read in scolling mode etc.
Has anyone else had this experience with an iBook title? I feel cheated. I want my money back! No, I WANT MY NOTES BACK!!!

Indeed. The title is "The Bread Bakers Apprentice", Peter Rhinehart. I bought this title from the iBooks bookstore in Feb 2012. I enjoyed it, and annotated many bread "formulas" with my own adaptations and experiences since then.
About 2 weeks ago, upon opening iBooks, all my books were suddenly on ICloud and not on my iPad. When I re-downloaded the title, it opened in what I can only describe as the "PDF" interface, rather than the iBook format, sans most of the iBook features, including all my notes.  I could provide screen shots if my des ripton is not clear.
Thanks of your interest Tom.

You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

  • Has my ibook turned into a dead duck

I mean that literally. Quite a few times now there has been severe slowdown with programs that has caused me no problem prior to the past few days. I ran all the usual things and cleared the cache (onyx) but sometimes it dies.
I'm waiting for diskwarrior to come through the mail so until then is there anything I should test? Some may think it's a memory problem but I doubt it. It looks more HD related.

    hi Gordon,
I essentially did the same as you mentionned a few months ago. Backup by everything onto an external HD, clean installed everything and set it up. And for the past few months everything was working fine.
As you might have guessed I'm not connected to any servers or outside computers that might occupy FInder, and I have no startup items either.
I think that my HD is heading downhill, it's a shame 'cause it's only been a year and-a-half.
BTW, I wanted to buy an external HD but was worried about how often they 'stop working'. Seems like quality issues run poorly across the board of manufacturers (LaCie, Maxtor, etc.)
I heard that internal HD are more reliable and was thinking of setting up an internal HD with an external enclosure. DO you have any recommendations for a quality brand?

  • Why do all my JPEGs turn into PDFs? I can't do anything!

The craziest thing keeps happening in Elements 10. Every JPG file I open seems to turn into a PDF file so I can's resize or print! I'm used to Photoshop 5.0 and Elements is new to me.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using Image à Resize à Image Size
If so make sure the resample and constrain boxes are checked.

  • Can a page-turning SWF to PDF have navigation?

I'm working on creating a flip-book PDF which needs a Replay button or some other way to get back to the first page OTHER than laboriously clicking back through every single page. In CS4 InDesign, files with Page Turn transistion must be exported as a SWF file, but the button I've put on the last page with a Go to First Page action won't work. Evidently that's because the SWF file after being turned into a PDF via Create PDF command becomes "one page" at least as far as Acrobat is concerned. Flash won't edit SWF files, so that's not an option.
Any theories on how to have a simple Start Over function would be appreciated. TIA!

  • How can I open a PDF into an iBooks folder other than PDF folder?

How can I open a PDF directly into a folder in iBooks other than the PDF folder?  I have different folders made and am currently having to open into the PDF folder and then move to the correct folder. Can I open directly into the needed folder?

No, I don't think so. The pdf isn't capable of knowing which folder you would like it to open in – all it knows is that it is a pdf. It's up to you to put it in the appropariate folder.

  • Hello! I would like to know the procedure to turn a word document into a PDF document via Adobe Reader.

Hello! I would like to know the procedure to turn a word document into a PDF document via Adobe Reader. Do I have to pay for it or just sign up? Thank you in advance.

"...the procedure to turn a word document into a PDF document via Adobe Reader."
    Not possible.
No version of Adobe Reader can:
    --| create PDF
    --| manipulate PDF page content
    --| export PDF page content
Adobe Reader XI does provide a "connection" to various Adobe hosted online subscription services (that are under "acrobat.com").
There is a subscription services can create PDF from supported file formats that are uploaded to the service.
This subscription service is "PDF Pack".
With an active (paid up) subscription to a service one can make use of the service.

  • Dotted lines in Indesign turn into thick bulky lines in PDF (Adobe Reader)

    Hi there
Got a situation that is really confusing me, i have dotted lines in indesign that look perfect thin and in a light grey, however when i export this and view it in adobe reader/acrobat or when i upload my pdf online, the lines turn into thick black bulky lines? I have ensured that 'compression for line art and text' is unticked,  can anyone help me understand this?
As my pdf is for viewing online I would really want the lines to not ruin the whole page
    Many thanks
what line is supposed to look like and and what it looks like in adobe reader/ acrobat

I've been having the same problem.
After seeing Larry's comment it occurred to me that my Mac automatically opens all files that I export to pdf in 'Preview', and this is what I have been using to view the pdfs each time. I deliberately opened the same files using Adobe Reader, and the dots are fine.
So perhaps it's just a problem with 'Preview'? Unfortunately I think my printer is using Preview too, as 2 recent jobs have been printed with those awful clumsy dots

  • How can I turn a form that is open on my browser into a PDF doc if I cannot save it onto my computer

How can I turn a form that is on my Safari browser into a PDF if I cannot save the form onto my computer?

Acrobat XI Pro has a "create PDF from a web page" feature. If you have Acrobat XI Pro installed perhaps you can "capture" the web form as a PDF. If so then this PDF can (of course) be saved to the local machine's HDD.

  • ID CS3 : the 101 buttons bug - PDF file turning into a form

    Hi there,
I'm just mentionning this issue with a clear title (I had mentioned it in another thread but with a wrong topic name, since I hadn't found out the bug).
When working in inDesign CS3, there's a slight but annoying issue with interactive PDF buttons. As soon as your file reaches 101 buttons, the PDF document exported is considered as a form instead of a standard document (no matter if the buttons are present on the master pages, on the same pages or through the document).
I've managed to find a workaround myself, and I found another one on these forums, but no real solution. Here they are:
    Workaround #1 (http://http://forums.adobe.com/message/2177707#2177707) :
Instead of creating my controls in the master page (which caused the file to have more than 100 buttons), I created them (only once) in the first page they appeared in. Then, in Acrobat Pro, I just selected them and used the "duplicate" command.
There are two benefits when using this solution:
your PDF document won't turn into a form (which can be a real problem if you don't want to confuse the document users).
your PDF file will be lighter. Indeed, when creating a button in inDesign (even if you create it on the master page) the exported PDF document won't contain X occurences of the same button, but X different buttons (which can incread the size of your document dramaticaly when it reaches a large amount of pages).
Yet, if your document reaches 101 buttons on the solemn content, the bug will trigger anyway.
    Workaround #2 (http://http://forums.adobe.com/message/1322652#1322652) :
After having exported your PDF file, lock it against editing (through the password protection system). Your document will still be considered as a form, but the annoying purple box won't pop any longer when you open the file.
This solution is quite simpler, but it still is a workaround to the issue, not a solution.
Well, I hope those workarounds will help someone, but if someone had a *real* solution to it, that would be great.

Thanx! For me — prototyping — to block editing with password is enough (for now).

I have turned PowerPoint slides into a PDF and now want to insert this into a docx packet.  I can't do this.  Help.

    Hi leastoners,
If you're trying to insert a file into a Word document, your best bet is to check the Word online Help. (What you describe sounds like a function of Word, not of Acrobat). I did a quick search and came up with this: Add a PDF to a document - Word. But I'm not sure that's what you're looking for.
If I misunderstood your request, please let me know and we can take it from there.
    Best,
