IBook updates--keep previous notes and highlights?

If I update a book I published on iBooks, will readers who have downloaded and marked up (added notes and highlights) the previous version be able to keep those markings once they update to the new version?

Hello Courtney,
I am not sure but would be interested in the answer to your question for future editions and updates since I am working on books for schools…
Regards,
Nigel

  • HT1751 How can I delete a book, but keep the notes and highlights in case I re-load it later?

I won't be able to keep all my books on my iPad. I don't want to lose my highlights and notes. How to I save them for use when I later reload the book?

One way to delete a book is to select it, choose Edit from the menu and Delete.

Are they ibooks, epubs, PDFs ?  If they are epubs or ibooks then you might be able to either double-tap or press and hold a word and you should get a popup with one option on it being hightlight (though at least one of my ibooks doesn't get that option) - you can drag the grab points at the start and end of the word to extend the hightlighted text.  You can then view your highlights by tapping the bullet point icon next to the Library button at the top left of the screen.
If it's a PDF then I think that you will need to find a different app, I don't think that you can do it in iBooks e.g. GoodReader might do what you want.

  • HT4059 Printing electronic notes and highlights in iBooks

I have made electronic notes and highlights from a uni boo (PDF), is it possible to print a copy of the notes I have made and sections I have highlighted?  If so, how please?  I do not have any air printers.

    Just answered my own question:
I also had this question, and spent time puzzling over it. But here's the answer:
    Open the relevant iBook
Click the icon that looks like a 3 line bullett list
    Click on Notes
Click on the icon in the top right hand side that looks like a page with an up arrow pointing out of it.
    Choose Edit Notes
Select the notes or highlights that you want printing (a tick appears in the circular radio button)
    Click SHARE
    Choose either Mail or Print
    Voila

  • HT4059 Turn off other peoples notes and highlights in iBooks app? iOS 6

How do i get rid of other peoples notes and highlights in books im reading. I used to be able to turn it off but now in iOS6 cant find the button to turn off other peoples notes and highlights on my book. So Frustrating. It used to be in settings. Not anymore!!! So annoying.

Try downloading the current version of the iBooks app on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history. Then on the iPod go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and you should be able to download an older compatible version of it

  • HT5557 How not to sync notes and highlights

My wife and I each have an iPhone and iPad we share an iTunes account and have separate iCloud accounts. Currently our notes and highlighting done in iBooks syncs. What is best way to prevent that?

    Hello,
Evernote is integrated into the Remember app. Enter your Evernote credentials into the Settings > Accounts area, and then you will have a folder within Remember for your Evernote items.
For Outlook notes, that's different...and presently not available via any means whatsoever. There is talk about returning full USB sync, but that's not yet available (and I'm honestly not certain if it'll return for MAC at all).
Contacts and Calendar can be done OTA via Outlook.com (though I've no idea how to integrate that into Outlook for MAC), as well as USB 1-way via the latest LINK software (again, not sure about MAC).
    Good luck!

  • Is it possible to recover notes and highlights lost in one document?

I made notes and highlights in one document and next ime I openned it everything was gone.

It's a good idea to keep backups. You can make backups from Reader either by emailing a PDF, by copying it to a service like Dropbox or Acrobat.com, or by using iTunes.

  • My m ac os x 3 keeps jumping spaces and highlights all by itself?

my m ac os x 3 keeps jumping spaces and highlights all by itself. sensitive to touch have to keep my hands not resting on computer and then its works??
    any feedback appreciated.

Wow, could be most anything at this point.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Are Notes and Highlights backed up and restorable?

I want to download some books and mark them up pretty good with notes and highlights but I can't afford for my Ipad to crash and then only be able to restore the clean version of the book. Does anyone know if notes and highlights I make to a book are saved / backed up in case I ever need to restore them upon a crash? thanks!

Yes, they seem to get backed up and restored.
I tried: add a note to a book. Sync the iPad. Remove the book from the iPad by unchecking it in iTunes and syncing. Verify that the book is gone from iBooks. Put it back on the iPad from iTunes, and the note was intact.

  • Delete all notes and highlights at once

Hi community,  I have a PRS-600 reader and I cannot delete all notes and highlights being accumulated from all books I have read so far.  I read the whole users manual, and there is no "delete all" option.  Thanks a lot for your help,

Thanks a lot for your answer...
When I tap my ebook options list, there is no "delete notes" option displayed anywhere.  I see that ebook gathers drawings, highlights, and bookmarks altogether into the same "notes" category, then...  I wonder why "delete notes" does not appear for me to choose it from the list of options displayed?
About this tip you gave me: "To delete the highlight, press the OPTIONS button, then tap “Create/Edit Notes” → [Eraser] on the tool bar. Then, tap or stroke a part of the highlighted word(s)."   I have used this procedure when erasing one or very few highlights while I am making them, but when there are several that have been accumulating from all the books read during a period of time... Does this means that I have to "erase" each of the highlights and drawings one by one?
What about the bookmarks?   Do I have to double-tap each folded corner one by one also?
    Thanks again for your help,

contact the delevoprs of the app and ask them what they recommend.
Don't sync your phone in the mean time.
    best of luck

  • IBooks upgrade erased notes and highlights

I upgraded the iBooks app on my 3rd gen iPad today. Now iBooks no longer remembers where I left off reading any of my books, plus it has lost all my highlights, notes and bookmarks. How can I get those back?

Ah, fixed it finally -- iBooks just got confused. I have been backing up and syncing things with iCloud so when I deleted the book from my iPad and then downloaded it again -- all the bookmarks and highlights were back!

  • IBook problem with notes and highlighter

Why can't I use the highlighter and note features on my PDF downloads?

Have you enabled "Notes" in your iCloud Preferences on your Mac?
System preferences > iCloud > Notes
And on your iPhone in the "Settings > iCloud"?

  • Can I print notes and highlights in iBook?

If so, how is it done?

You can print notes, but I don't think that you can print passages that you've highlighted on books that you've bought from Apple. To print your notes for a particular book, open that book and tap the icon next to the Library button top left (looks like 3 bullet points) which should then display your notes - you should then see an icon at the top right of that screen (contents/bookmarks) of a box with an arrow coming out of it; tap that and you should get a Print button.

  • Ibooks update keeps reseting

I update today the ibook app to the feb 9 update and the app does not work!, it shows my book for a moment and then reset to the main screen. I reset my ipad, power off, resync and still not work, any idea what could be happening?
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel

    Hi and welcome Daniel...
Open iTunes. On the left side of the iTunes window under Library select Apps. Right or control click the iBooks icon then click Delete.
On your iPad. Press and hold the iBooks icon then tap the circle with an x in it. Tap delete.
Click here to download and install a new iBooks app.
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ibooks/id364709193?mt=8
From the iTunes menu bar click Store / Check for available downloads.
When the installation is finished connect the iPad to your computer. Select Apps in the iTunes menu (just to the right of Summary and Info) then click the Sync button bottom right side of the iTunes window. That will sync a new copy of the iBooks app to your iPad.
