IBook w/DLink

Two Questions >
I use G5 w/Airport & Airport Express, connecting to stereo; playing iTunes through both computer speakers & stereo. XM Radio (which plays through Quicktime) will play ONLY through computer speakers. I've tried putting Quicktime alias into iTunes, but NOTHING!
I also use an iBook, which connects to same Airport w/DLink; however I'm unable to get this to connect to stereo via Airport Express (multiple speakers, as G5 does)

1. You must use something like Airfoil to stream from any application other than iTunes.
2. Does the iBook have the latest iTunes version installed? If not, that's probably the reason why Multiple Speakers is not showing up.

  • Ibook connecting to dlink/windows network

I have always been a PC user and had a dlink wireless router set up for my PCs. I just got my ibook today. It connects through a "default" network and I can access the internet. On this network is also a shared printer that I used from PC laptops to print. Is there a way to connect and share files with these computers, or more importantly - connect to use the shared printer?
    thanks

Though for 10.3 you should find that they work for 10.4

  • Connecting AE to Dlink Router DI-624

Greetings all ! just purchased the AE and already having difficulty :P
I want to transfer music from my PC to my living room stereo.
Tried connecting the AE to my network with no sucess. Here's my config and if someone can help me make this thing work I'll be extatic!
1 pc connected to Dlink DI-624 Wireless Router
1 Ibook connected to a Dlink Wireless Access Point
    1 AE.
I have no wirless network set up as there is no need to since both devices communicate out of the box. Airport Admin Utillity and Airport Setup Assistance both can't find my Router. Help!

Step one: set up your D-Link wireless router to create a wireless network. At minimum, you should configure it with a wireless network name (SSID) - follow the instructions in your D-Link router's user manual to do this (it will require running a web browser from one of the computers currently cabled to this router).
Then follow the advice posted in this discussion by David Lovell, to configure your Airport Express so that it "joins" the wireless network created by your D-Link wireless router:

  • Using WPA with a G3 ibook with Airport Card

    G3 800 ibook
    Running 10.4.7
    Airport Card
    Router DLink DIR-625
This is the only non-extreme unit I have. All other connect with no problem. When I set up WPA and attempt to connect with this machine, I get the following message
the wireless network "xxx" does not support the requested encryption method.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Thanks!

As long as you are running AirPort software 3.3 or better you should be able to connect to a WPA network. See KB 107795, AirPort Card: When You Can Join a WPA Network.
Verify that the network is NOT using WPA2. You can't join a WPA2 protected network.

  • Unable to connect to D-Link DI-624 (ver.C) using iBook G4

This question is on behalf of my friend. I tried to get her iBook G4 onto the D-Link DI-624 Wireless network but was unable to access the internet. Wired is fine though. The router is setup with WEP 40bit ASCII passphrase and is broadcasting the SSID, but for some reason as soon as the iBook's Network DHCP grabs a valid IP address, the wireless connection is lost (ie. antenna dims). Additionally, when the iBook momentarily connects to the wireless network, her Windows PC's lose network connection, then vice-versa. I found this to be very strange, and have never come across this problem before with any other router. Any ideas?
Here's her configs from what I remember:
    - WEP 40bit ASCII
    - Channel 6
    - Router is using DHCP
    - 1 Wintel machine hard-wired
    - 2 Wintel machines using wireless
    - iBook G4 can access any other router perfectly fine (ie. Library, School, Coffee Shops, etc)
Thanks in advance for any help.

I expect you may have figured this out by now...but in case you didn't I had a similar problem getting by iBook back on a DI-624 wireless network.
After much grinding of teeth what ended up working was "simply" resetting the network connection within the iBook's System Preference/Network.
So this is what it finally took me to get back on: I actually reconnected directly to the broadband modem (ethernet) first in order to updated to OS 10.4.4. There are some improvements within security and wireless connections and its been mentioned by a number of others in the discussion groups. There are certainly those who feel the update has created problems but I know plenty of folks who are using it and haven't had any issues.
From the sounds of it you probably know how to reset your iBook network preferences. I also turned off WEP (as suggested by DI-Link) just to make sure I could get the connection back. I also reset the DI-624 to my configuration, which is easy to do within your browser (if you don't have your quick start manual you can get on line from DLink). I then re-configured the iBook's network preferences again to make ApplePort as the priority connection and shut down the laptop.
Powered off the broadband modem for at least a couple of minutes. Powered down the DI-624 for a minute or so and then back on. Powered up the modem. When the modem recycling was completed I powered up the laptop.
At that point the reconnection to the network was back. After I reconnected wirelessly I went back in and reset the WEP. I shut down the laptop, powered down the modem again and back on after a couple of minutes. It seems like a unnessary step but in previous experience recycling the broadband connection got everything working in sync. Powered up the iBook and everythings back to working....knock on wood. It's been working fine for the past couple of weeks without a hitch (or hick-up)

  • Do I have bluetooth on my iBook?

I have recently received one of those wireless Apple might mice as a present. I tried to connect it to my laptop but it seems that I don't have a bluetooth installed. How can I know whether I have a bluetooth or not and if not, how can I get one? How much does it cost? I tried to find the item on Apple store but I wasn't able to.

    HI Ron,
Open the System Profiler to see all the software/hardware on the iBook. (Applications/Utilities).
If Bluetooth was not pre-installed then you need a Bluetooth adapter. I use a D-Link USB adapter.
This is the exact one I have; http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34 and it works like a charm. In fact, this one has lasted 5 years without need of replacement. I use pair it with a mouse and external keyboard both.
As Lyssa said, search the internet to see if there another manufacture available to compare the features with and make certain it's Mac compatible.
But... 2 thumbs up here for the D-Link !!

  • Connecting an ibook to accesspoint with WPA2-PSK

My Ibook, bought this year, but early (panther 10.x), have problems with connecting to my Dlink accesspoint after setting the security to WPA2-PSK.
Are there any problems with this connection from apples side? The machine is rather new, but I cant get connected ...

WPA with TKIP most certainly does NOT currently provide "good enough security for the time being".
    Ref: http://www.cr0.net:8040/code/network/aircrack/
AirCrack is perfectly capably of cracking WPA-PSK using TKIP. It's all about the weakness of RC4 as a cipher. AES is what we truly need. The problem is that we'll have to get Linksys and Apple to stop finger pointing long enough to figure out what the actual problem is and fix it.

  • PB 10.4.4 + Dlink 624 (wireless) don't like WPA encryption

    Hi all,
my PB and my wife's iBook both cannot lock on to the airport signal from our DLink 624 WITH WPA encryption.
everything runs smoothly with the safety features disabled, but just gives me a "couldn't log on to the .... network" message and has no signal bars in the menu bar monitor as soon as I turn it back on.
this is something that worked fine on both machines before we upgraded to Tiger (the problem has been there since 10.4.1), DLink (of course..) says it's something to do with X..
    any ideas ?
thanks, for your help, let me know if you need more info on my settings, etc,
    Benny

Yes I read that the first time. I just don't follow your logic. Why could it not be a problem of authentication on the laptop? If the router is spending time repeating things for my laptop, and the compliance is not valid in the laptop, is that not an airport issue?
Also, as I stated before, how is it that others are having the same problms with other different routers?

  • Can I network Time Machine with my Dlink DI624

    Hi:
Maybe the answer to this question at first glance may be an obvious NO. I have a USB Firewire drive enclosure made to hold an IDE drive. I would choose a 160 gig. Now that configuration will work for 1 computer, my Macbook with 10.5.2. My wife has an iBook 1.3 gig and Leopard. On a non network config could she just disconnect the drive enclosure from me and use time machine as well or is it restricted to just 1 user?? Because there may be another computer G4 if she switches to Leopard, could both daughter & wife share my 160 gig enclosure? Because sharing in this manner has its disadvantages such as plugging and unplugging and moving it to many places and finding room for it.
Now you can see the advantages of networking Time Machine. We have a DLINK DI 24 with many computers networking wirelessly. We have a Dlink DP G-321 Print server as well as a Dlink DWL-2100AP to cover the second floor and provide the same signal to computers upstairs as the DI 624 provides on the main floor. Sorry for such detail. Now I know that the Airport extreme would fit perfectly because it has a USB port which neither the DI 624 or it repeater the DWL-2100AP but the wireless DP G-321 Print server does. It has 3 ports 2 USB and a parallel port: one of the former being used by my laser printer so I have 1 USB port port. Would it work? If not would an Airport Extreme (with USB port) replace my DI624? Would the print server and DWL-2100AP fit perfectly with an Airport Extreme? The DWL-2100 AP is a hard wired wireless extension of the DI624 (sorry if I have the terminology wrong)
    Thanks
    Ted

    Thank you

  • Apples to Apples: iBook wireless works, Macbook not so much

Adding more fuel to the fire or data to the chart, your choice.
Same wireless network (Dlink DI-634M, SSID broadcast, WPA), same distance. iBook gets full signal, Macbook can't even connect.
Different OS version (Macbook 10.4.6, iBook slightly behind).
    Still, no excuse.
Broken and desperately needs to be fixed. Hope it's not a hardware call.

    Same thing here comparing a PowerBook G4 (10.4.6) &
    the MacBook Pro (10.4.6)
I'm worried this will require a hardware fix as
    well.
Could you tell me what your board revision is?
I've heard that board revision D does not have this
    problem.
The board revision can be idenified by the serial
    number.
You can get the serial number from inside the battery
bay or by clicking on "About This Mac" in the finder
and clicking twice on the software version number
    (gray characters).
    - Serial numbers starting with W8611 are revision D
    - Serial numbers starting with W8610 are revision C
    Thanks
I have the same problem and Serial number is W8609
what do you think the problem is?

  • Iphone knocks my iBook offline?

why does my iphone kick my iBook offline? is this a problem with my D-link router? I have a Dlink WBR 1310 router, and I got it for free.

The basic reason is that they are both trying to use the same IP address. A description I just read of this device, states that it "includes basic routing and security features to help you create a simple wireless network for your apartment". It may be unable to react quickly enough although the basic specs do say, "multiple computers."
I recently had a similar problem when I bought a new iMac. The iPod touch was unaffected, but if the iMac started up first, it would grab the IP number that the MacBookPro had used: each computer wants to use the settings that it was using before sleep or shutdown.
To get round this initially, I restarted the router (I use Airport Extreme); but now they behave themselves and have different IP numbers.
Try restarting the router, of course, but also try starting the computer and touch in a different order.

  • How To Connect My PB To An iBook...

My cousin just bought a new ibook - I'll be going to over to help him set it up and it would be nice to transfer some of the family pics / files I have on my powerbook over to his machine to load up into iphoto etc.
I'd like to find a way of connecting the two 'books so that both are still useable... I'm hoping that simply connecting the two via a firewire cable will create some sort of mini-network?... but that sounds to easy...
I'm trying to avoid 'target disk mode' as this means one of the 'books will have to be inactive... he currently hasn't gone live on broadband - although it is imminent...
If anyone has any advice / help it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

"I'm hoping that simply connecting the two via a firewire cable will create some sort of mini-network?... but that sounds to easy..."
But it is that easy. Network the iBook and PowerBook via IP over FireWire:

  • What do i buy to hook up my ibook....

what do i buy to hook up my ibook g4 into my tv using the A/V plug??
do i hook up the --(Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter) to my ibook then hook up the --(Apple AV Cable for iBook) to the adapter??....
    thanks for the help...

You need to use the Apple Video Adapter M9109G/A to get a video signal.
Then you just need a male-to-male video patch cable to connect the adapter to your TV.

  • How can I stop shared files in iBooks being highlighted by different family members?

I Have family sharing set up which is great for sharing apps and music however I have a problem with iBooks. My wife and I both use ePub files which a re study material. The great thing about these is that we can highlight and add notes to files.
THe problem is that our individual highlights and notes are shared with each other. So I get my wife's highlights and notes on top of mine.
We ha ve tried clearing all ePub files from my wife's ipad, and only syncing them to mine. She then downloads her own copy of the ePub file. So one has the original which is on our iMac and one has another copy. This makes no difference as iTunes recognises them as the same file.
We'd be happy to switch off family sharing for iBooks to prevent this but that doesn't seem possible. It's all or nothing. I can't turn off family sharing completely as my wife will lose access to our shared music library.
Does oes anyone have any suggestions? Basically, we want to share music and apps through family sharing but have a separate collection of books even though those books might be ide bridal before we annotate them.

Have you tried going into the Preferences on iBooks on your Mac and unchecking the option for syncing across devices?

  • How can I share iBooks authored by me using iBook Author on 2 different iPads synced to two different computors? Both iPads have different iTunes accounts.

I am in the process of authoring an eBook using iBook Author.  The project is a work in progress and I want to share the draft with other collegues.  We each have our own iPads synced with other computers and we have different iTunes acounts.  I attempted to preview the book on the new iPad, but the iPad did not come up in the available device window.
Am I missing something or is there a way around this?
