IBook went crazy - please help!

Hey,
I was just downstairs surfing the 'net when all of a sudden my iBook went flooey. The screen went black, and then red, green, white, blue (I'm not sure of the exact order of colors). I tried holding down the power button to force it to restart, but that didn't work. I had to unplug it and take the battery out to get it to stop. When I tried restarting, I got the same funky screens. Oh, and now the fan is going like crazy.
What happened??
I have AppleCare, but I'm still hoping this something I can fix myself with appropriate software. I hate parting with my iBook while it's getting fixed!

ETA: I just realized that the iBook wasn't shut down despite me taking the battery out and putting it back in. So I took it out and the fan has stopped.

Oracle 10g Rel2(10.2.0.3) on Vista ultimate driving me crazy, Please HELP

I am Certified Ora DBA and am stuck, thats a shame
I am going to install and Test Oracle 10g on Vista as my future client will use Just Vista and no othr OS, so there is no OTHER OS options,
I ready all the documentaiotn and release notes and also read that Oracle 10g(10.2.0.3) is certified on Vita Ultimate.
I downloaded the DB which is frm the below link:

My display has gone crazy, please help!!!

Well folks, you can count me in as another victim of the "checkered/blocked" display problem. It suddenly came up just a few hours ago and I,m going crazy. Have been reading some of the posts and Apple should definitely look further on this issue since it's affecting a considerable number of users. I,m not clear if my system is covered under Apple's Extension Program. My S/N begins with W8526xxxxxxx, please help us Apple.

Basically your screen looks like an old-fashioned TV test card with blocks all over it? That happened to my imac G5 when I had only had it a short while back in 2005. I had just switched to mac and was devastated. When I rang Apple they said it was the logic board which is the most expensive part to replace apparently. I had it fixed under Applecare. I would find out if you can get it fixed under the Apple program as now it is a known fault with these models.Here is a link to the page Apple have set up about the extended repair program, it does look like your model could be one of the affected ones:

My new ibook keeps crashing. please help.

i have had my ibook for 3 months and recently it has started to freeze and requests me to shut it down by a grey screen covering the desktop instructing me to press the restart button. I have no choice is it wont let me carry on using the application.
during this last week it has been making loud wirring noises and lots of text saying it is currupt and it has a crash report appears on the screen in black lines right after the pointer freezes. it happens after about 5 mins after i have logged in.
please help me as it is scaring me! I havent downloaded anything currupt as once when it detected a currupt file i cancelled it. if there is anything i can do myself to help before i call the technicians in then it would be great. thanks.
p.s is limewire known as a problem programme?

Whilst Lyssa is quite correct in saying that kernel panics can be caused by hardware issues, they can be caused by OS and software issues too.
So before you start opening up your iBook...
As your iBook is only 3 months old, you won't be able to find the airport card as they are now wired it. When Airport was offered as an option they were user installable. They are not so any more. Certainly the factory installed additional RAM could be faulty, but try the following first.
Firstly I would try the info provided by Dr Smoke (a very clever chap who contributes regularly here) on his X-Lab website.
Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items,
Resolving disk, permission, and cache corruption.
To begin with, concentrate on the 'Permissions', 'Safe boot' and 'Repair disk'.
Secondly, as your iBook is less than 90 days old you are entitled still to full free hardware and software telephone support from Apple. Don't leave phoning them past the end of Feb as you will lose the software support and they will charge you if the problem turns out to be software related. (Unless you purchased AppleCare...).
They would probably have you run through the above anyway so you've got nothing to lose in trying those first.

I've done an ample amount of Internet research to find an answer to this problem however nothing yet found is quite like this. I will start from the beginning.
I am traveling through Europe, and I normally live in California. When I arrived in Ireland my MBP early 2011 15 inch, began crashing constantly when I had several tabs open on Chrome and maybe one or two low CPU/Memory using applications, nothing the 8gb RAM &750gb hard drive can't normally handle. Thus I began trouble shooting. I ran disk utility once started up and repaired both disk and permissions. Still crashing. It didn't seem like it had anything to do with a kernel panic shut down, I never would receive the usual message indicating so. After that I did an SMC reset. It was still crashing. I then upgraded the OSX from 10.8 to 10.8.4 believing it could help. It did momentarily, but then crash again. (When it crashes screen goes black suddenly and upon pressing power button does a regular boot on my single partition). I decided attempting to repair using the Internet recovery option but it appeared my MBP had not yet have it installed, so I downloaded from Apple and began installing. Here I made a mistake, I unplugged the power source as it was restarting. When the gray screen and apple appeared, the loading bar shows up as it says it will when installing the update, but when the bar fully loads it crashes every time. I've tried starting in safe mode, which then loads but never goes further (I let it stand for two hours such as that and nothing). Then I decided to allow the MBP to fully charge overnight to give it time and charge. This morning the problem has stayed the same, even with power source plugged in. Please help I need this to work.

Your constant crashing problem is probably some type of hardware fault which no update can fix. Doing the 10.8.4 update and then the firmware update just caused further problems. you need to take thr system to a apple store to be diagnosed and fixed if cost effective.

Compressor is making me crazy, please help

I know this question is all over the forums but nothing seems to help me. I have FCP 5.0, Qmaster 2.0.1, Compressor 2.0.1, QT 7.1.3. I reinstalled the whole FCP suite with no good results, trash prefs., then I updated Qmaster and Compressor to 2.0.1, verify permissions and still nothing. I am running mac os x version 10.4.8 on a power pc.
please, please, please, please help me.

I am guessing it had to do with the install of DVD SP and/or Compressor and QMaster. Have you trashed prefs for all of these apps?
In the user menu library (as opposed to the root menu library) did you trash the files in the FInal CUt Pro User Data folder? Not the folders, just the prefs and the cache files. Up higher in the same library are the plist files for FCP, DVD Studio Pro and COmpressor under com.apple.(name of app).plist.
Now here is the issue I am having. I installed the whole studio at one time, so I have no conflicting prefs or program files. I am not sure, and maybe someone more knowledgable will check this post, but maybe you have some conflicting preference files since you installed the rest of the studio after. (If I am correct, you had FCP for a while, and then later upgraded to the Studio?)
If that is not the situation then I am stumped and you might have to do a full install. (Not uncommon at all) but you should try to do FCP rescue if you haven't already. It's a free app, I believe.

Red Media suddenly went offline - Please Help!

I am aware that this is a reccurent problem. I remember seeing a similar post last week but for some reasons I can't find it anymore.
Here is my situation.
After months of endless editing of a feature film, I am about to export the final cut and send the project out for DI and VFX.
Today I opened PPCS6 and part of my timeline is offline.
Of course I tried to relink the media, but all I get is an error message saying "Unsupported File / File damaged".
This was an ongoing problem at the times of CS5-5.5,when I was spending weeks trying to understand the origin of this problem. Now it appears that CS6 is having the same kind of issues with RED media (or simply with the red importer).
Here is what happens in details:
When I relink the original r3d files I don't always get the "unsupported file" error. Long clips with more than one segment can be relinked with a little trick.
To give an example:
In the case of long clips, when Premiere asks "Where is A002_C001_100742_001?" if I select the first segment of the file (001) I get the "unsupported file" error.
Although if I select the second or third segment, like A002_C001_100742_002 or A002_C001_100742_003 the clip gets re-linked without problems. This makes me feel there is something wrong in the way Premiere imports RED media.
Although the real probelm is when I have short clips, where the camera only generated on r3d file/segment. In that case I get the error of unsupported format, and the clip stays offline. I can't think of a workaround for short clips.
I have the latest CS6.02 version.
This is driving me crazy, and right now 1/4 of my timeline is offline.
Please, if anyone experienced this problem and has a possible solution let me know. I need to export this project and I am currently stuck with no possible solution.

I tried, but Clearing the cashe/cashe database made it even worst, more clips went offline.
Today I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it, now everything is back to normal.
Problem is that it happens very often, not only to me.
It would be great to understand if there is a better solution. Uninstalling the software in the middle of a job made me feel a bit uneasy.

Leopard Gives My iBook Brain Freeze - Please Help

I decided to upgrade my iBook G4 (1.07 GHz with 512 RAM) to Leopard after running 10.4.11. But before I upgraded, I made a back up of drive on an extrernal hard drive. Then I went through the install and it took about 3 hours, but it installed everything. Then it restarted my iBook and I logged in, but then my background image loads and my beach ball just spins. For hours (I let it sit over night and it did nothing). I can move my cursor over the dock and it pops up, but if I click on an application it will load (like Safari will load but just sit there with a the load bar frozen at 15%).
So I turn to everyone here for help. I tried to re-install Leopard and it did nothing and I still have the same issue. Any help would be awesome.

If you have safely backed up all of your files; music, fotos, videos, etc., then I recommend a complete Erase & Install. Use the Disk Utility found in the Utilities menu of the Leo Installer. Erase the HD and use the simple option to write zeros to the HD. This will also lock out any bad sectors which your HD may have. Then install Leo. You can even do a custom install and gain a few extra GBs by only installing the language and printer driver resources that you really need. Finally you can carefully bring over your files from the back up.
This process should eliminate whatever is hanging over from your previous install and messing up Leo for your enjoyment.

My iBook is dead PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

Hello, i need help pronto! my iBook G4, i always thought it was the best computer ever, i've had Mac for several years now and they always work just fine, but the other day i left my iBook sleeping while it charge the battery and when i came back i tried to turn it on and i notice that the computer was off not sleeping, i wierd smell was comming out of the left down corner of the computer and the computer dont work at all, and the battery never charged! i think that the problem is the power supply, but i can be wrong! im clueless and i really mis my laptop! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

Alright take a deep breath everything is going to be fine. First off what kind of smell? I have noticed over the years that all Macs, when they get hot have a scent. When you try to turn your computer on any vital signs? Sounds? Lights? Anything? You might want to take your computer to your local Apple Store to get an evaluation from a Mac Genius. Respond with specifics about everything, you get better responces. I wouldn't be surprised if you fried it. Maybe surge, but its hard to tell.

How to create Protein or Chemical structures in .pdb or .mol format for use with iBooks Author. Please help.

Dear Community,
There are a large variety of software packages used by Chemists and Biologists to view and manipulate Protein and Chemical structures in 3D. They typically have formats such as .pdb, or .mol. I have looked around and none of the software packages that I currently use allow me to export to the COLLADA (.dae) format.
Does anyone have any idea where to begin to allow me to do this. I would like to try and put in some of the 3D objects into the iBook Author program.

I believe that Apple should have provided an easily way to get Pymol images into iBooks Author as VRML has been the de facto standard. After a number of days, I have a method which works, but this much effort should not be necessary. Anyway here it is.
1) Set the viewport in Pymol to 512,384 to do this in the command window type
viewport 512,384
Note, I'm not totally sure you need to do this.
2) Draw you image in Pymol and output the image in VRML format, to do that
File -> Save Image As -> VRML 2 ...
I'll assume that you have given the file the name "pymol_output", you actual get pymol_output.wrl
3) In a terminal window go to the folder where the above file is located and issue the following command. This removes some stuff that messes up the lightening
sed '9,15d' pymol_output.wrl > bender_in.wrl
4) Next you need blender. You can download it from
http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/
5) Open Blender. In the upper right corner in the Scene section
right click on Lamp and delete it
right click on Cube and delete it
right click on Camera and delete it
Save this file so you don't have to do this every time. I called mine empty_blender_file.blend
6) Either open empty_blender_file.blend or continue from #5 and read in the file from #3
File -> import->X3D Extensible 3D (.x3d/.wrl)
this reads in the file
7) Write out the file in collada .dae format
File->export->collada (.dae)
Done. This file will read into iBooks Author and have somewhat uniform lighting. By the way, .dae files can be opened an checked in Preview. Its easier than going back and forth into the iPad, since you can rotate the image in Preview.
Hope this helps, let me know if it works for you and if you have any suggestions.
Finally someone needs to write a one step VRML and X3D to collada converter that will work with PyMol and Chimera etc.

MacBook Wireless -- Driving me crazy -- Please help!!

I have a MacBook Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM.
Lately (past month) I have been having some problems with my wireless connection (which occurs no matter what wireless network I am using). When I turn on the computer the wireless download speed is fine. Then, after I have been using my MacBook for a while, the speed begins to fluctuate. If I am downloading a file, the progress bar moves along at a normal rate for a little bit and then stops and then it continues to move along again at a normal rate and then stops and this continues until the file eventually finishes downloading. This occurs no matter what application I am using (i.e. Safari, Firefox, Download a file from my iMac over the wireless network, iChat, etc.). The progress stops about every 2 seconds.
The only way to “fix” the problem is to either shutdown and restart or to just restart. Then things work fine again for some time. It doesn’t seem to happen when I am doing any particular thing or using particular software.
I contacted Apple Support and they had me make some changes to the network and wireless settings (i.e. create a preferred network for my wireless connection, delete some network wireless Library files, repair permissions) and then when I rebooted the machine, it was, of course, working fine while I was on the phone. However, later in the day the problem reappeared.
I was using Tiger and upgraded to Leopard on the weekend hoping that it would magically fix my wireless problems but it hasn’t. I have installed all of the updates as well.
I am hoping that this sounds familiar to someone and there might be a fix for it. I have been looking online for an answer for quite some time. Rebooting my MacBook all the time is driving me absolutely crazy!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious... Will there actually be 10.4.11 now that Leopard 10.5 has been released? I am hoping there will be a 10.411, of course. I got my Macbook the last week of May 2007, installed the 10.4.10 update the day I got the machine, and had problems since.
I called Applecare as soon as I was sure it was my Macbook being flaky, not me doing something wrong. That was the fisrt week of June 2007, and Applecare acted like they never heard of anybody having WiFi disconnect problems on a Macbook. The best suggestion from Applecare was to go back to 10.4.9 - not something that appeals to me, as I'd lose the other fixes in 10.4.10.
The results for Leopard 10.5 are mixed. One thread says it doesn't help, but the users in another thread say it fixes the problem. Either way, I'm not too excited about paying US $129 to upgrade the operating system to fix a machine only a few months old.

IBOOK freezes! Please help!

I was talking to my friend one day and I was saying sorry..my apple froze. He told me he was suprised because apples don't freeze.
I have been having this occasional problem for a while now. I had my ibook for about 2 years now..perfect condition..but sometimes when I am just typing an essay or makign a movie..or whatever the whole thing freezes and I have to force shut it down.
Does anyone know why this might be happenign? I have enough hardrive space..everything seems to be perfect. I update and everything..so what is going on?

Do you get a message on your screen asking you to restart your computer or does it just stop responding?
If you have had any additional memory installed I would try removing that and see if it happens again. Another thing to try would be to boot from your install disc and run Disk Utility to check and hopefully repair any errors.
Had the same problem and it turned out to be the additional memory I installed.
