IBook with Dell Monitor

I'm thinking of getting a Dell 2005FPW monitor. According to Dell, it a system needs to support WSXGA+ resolution (1680 x 1050)to maximize performance out of the monitor. Can an iBook do this?
Thanks.

Hi DMC51269 & welcome to the forums! I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles
Is the picture on the monitor centered with black bars on either side?
Do you have another computer you could try the monitor with?

  • Mac Mini with Dell Monitor

I just bought my dad a Mac Mini and gave him my big Apple Monitor (can't remember size but bigger than a small TV:). Well dad says the monitor is too big and wants to use his Dell monitor. I called support and for the first time I couldn't understand the technician, his accent was too strong (I really hope Apple hasn't outsourced their support). Anyway, what I got from the conversation had something to do with a VGA adapter to a DVI? I have looked at the other topics on using non-Mac displays but they aren't really on point. Any help is appreciated:)
    Thanks
    Lisa

If the Dell monitor has a VGA connector (also referred to sometimes as 'analog'), then all he will need in order to use it with the mini is the DVI/VGA adapter that is included with the mini and therefore should be in the box. I use a Dell display with one of my minis this way and it works just fine.
If the Dell has a DVI connector (which is digital) then it will plug straight in without the adapter.
Almost all computer displays in the past 10 years and more use one or other of these connector types - most are VGA.

  • Brightness key not working with Dell monitor

Should my new wireless keyboard brightness keys be working with my Dell monitor?

Hello I managed to solve my problem of brightness key not working by Installing the Intel HD Graphic 3000 Driver from Intel official site. So if your Graphic card is Intel HD 3000 Graphic and your system is 64 Bit OS then you can follow the below link to download it and install.....https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24971/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-64-bit Note :- This Graphic driver only support the following intel Processor And If Your Are still running the built in intel graphic card, then only download it and install at you own risk.Supports Intel(R) HD graphics on:            2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 processor            2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 processor            2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 vPro(TM) processor            2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 processor            2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 vPro(TM) processor            Intel(R) Pentium(R) Processor  900/B900/G600/G800 Series            Intel(R) Celeron(R) Processor 700/800/B700/B800/G400/G500 Series

  • MacBook Pro (early 2008) with Dell monitor

I'm looking into buying an additional monitor for next year at college. I'm looking at the Dell U2211H, because its the only one that has the pivot feature that I need for work, as well as has a TV tuner built in. Does anyone know anything about how this setup would work? For instance, can I have my MBP screen set in landscape mode, and the Dell monitor in portrait mode? Also, the Dell screen resolution is 1920x1080. Is there anywhere to get this resolution on my mac, or will the monitor have to run at 1440x990? Finally, does anyone have any experience switching a monitor back and forth between computer and TV? What kind of work is involved?
    thanks for your help!

    Hi,
Unfortunately, maximum resolution that could go over HDMI port in OS X is 1080p.
I bought the same screen couple of weeks ago, and it is working at 2560x1440 only via DispayPort.
Another thing you macbook pro max resolution support is 1920x1200@60.
    Hope, that helps. Good Luck!

  • Does System Preferences support brightness control via DDC/CI with Dell Monitors?

I had a Dell 21.5" monitor, which was previously connected to a Windows PC via its DVI port, which has no problem with DDC/CI.

Beginner FCP user with new MBP 15". Older diabetic with bad eyes and need larger screen. Looking at a Dell 24" LCD SP2409W ($275.00). It has HDMI,DVI VGA wih 1920x1080 resolution and 16:9 ratio. It seems to be a "narrow" screen. Simply put, will FCP look/work OK on this type of monitor? Anything will be greatly appreciated. Joseph

    No problem Sir.
Just one thing, is your MBP the very latest model with the glass screen?
If so, you will need one of these to connect it:

"Waiting for the Dell 5K monitor?
We don’t know whether it will work with the current Mac Pro yet. Just like the theoretical Apple external 5K monitor, it will rely on tricks like MST to be treated as one big monitor, which may be unsupported or buggy on the Mac Pro.
It’s also a Dell.2 Dell monitors used to be great, but their quality has been inconsistent and declining in recent years, and they’re certainly not known for their visual appeal or classy materials."

  • Problem with a Dell Monitor - stopped working yesterday, just a flashing orange light. Monitor or Mac Mini issue?

I've been using an old Dell monitor with my Mac Mini ever since I got it, however yesterday evening my monitor stopped working - however I'm not sure whether the issue is with the monitor or the Mac Mini. It just doesn't seem to respond when I try to bring the Mac Mini out of sleep. I can hear that the Mini is responding to the keyboard - I hear the right noise for pressing return on the password box without entering anything.
I've made sure all the cables are plugged in properly (power & connection to the Mini), but all I'm getting is a flashing orange light on the monitor.
I don't have anything else to test the monitor on, nor do I have access to another monitor to plug into the Mac Mini - I only have an old iBook G4, so don't have the right adaptors to plug the VGA from the monitor into that.
So before I run out and buy a new monitor, what is the best way to determine where the problem lies.

Hi, I've actually never had any issues waking this monitor from sleep, this is the first time that it has been unresponsive and I've had it for years - probably over 10! (E151FP) so probably overdue for replacement.
To be honest I'd rather not just switch the Mini off unless it's a last resort given that other than the lack of a picture everything else seems to be working ok - still hearing all the normal noises of Skype, Mail and TimeMachine etc.

  • New Mac Mini with Lion Video Problem With Dell E228WFP monitor

Just purchased a new mini Mac 2.3 with Lion pre installed.  I connected to my old Dell E228WFPI monitor via the Mini Display to VGA adapter.  The mini mac worked fine for an hour until I put it to sleep.  It would not rewake.  After rebute the gray screen and apple logo appear with clock, but after clock screen to black and monitor goes to power saver mode.  Took unit to apple store twice and could not resolve problem by changing resolution or other methiods.  Finally, we learned that the system works fine using Belkin HDMI to DVI cable.  This Dell Monitor had DVI connector.  Hope this helps...

How can a computer that's been turned off (and I mean completely OFF) get a network request? Only a sleeping computer should react to such a request. If you're sure you shut down (Apple Menu, Shut Down), then only an internal power supply or logic board problem should cause this. The only way it could be software is if Lion is not shutting down the computer but is instead putting it to sleep. Is it a new Mac Mini? If so, you should have it replaced or repaired.

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display with Dell U2412m external monitor

I recently purchased the Dell U2412m monitor on Amazon hoping to use it as my external monitor to my Macbook pro 15" with retina display, however, when I finish setting it up, there's a red/pink vertical line showing on my screen. Does anyone know what seems to be the problem and how do I get rid of the line. Is there anything I need to set up on the monitor to make it compatible with MBP with retina?? Thanks in advance.

I used a mini display port to display port cable and my screen looked fine. My problem was that the USB ports did not work and dealing with Dell customer service was a nightmare.

  • New Dell Monitor with built in Webcam

I just got the new Dell monitor (SP2008WFP) that has the built in web cam. Everything works great with iChat in that I can see and hear the other person perfectly. However, they report that they hear a lot of echo which does not seem to disappear no matter what I do with input level or the output level. Either the microphone is very sensitive or the drivers for this webcam are not really perfected yet.
I have it set up on a Mac Pro with the output coming out of the digital output through speakers, and the input as the webcam microphone.
    Any ideas anyone?
(For what its worth the monitor does seem to basically work for all those that were looking into getting one - I know I couldn't find anything on the web to confirm that it even worked)

    Ralph,
Thanks for the response, you are quite a trooper on this forum!
I had my quicktime speed set for Cable (1Mbps) since that is what I have. On your suggestion I upped it to 1.5Mbps and in the video preview window it looks like the audio response from the mic is a little more 'snappy'. I will need to connect with someone to determine if this has really occurred though and I'll get back to you. Hopefully I made it clear before, but I am experiencing this delay in response even when I am not connected to anyone (just using the preview window in iChat), its almost like there is a delay in the mic picking up sound. I'd be surprised if changing the quicktime bandwidth helped, but I have to confess it does look better, so I have to give you credit.
Even though this monitor is a Dell, I really want it to work as I have been looking for an integrated solution for the Mac Pro for some time and Apple just doesn't appear to be coming out with it. The video is great, but the echo is very annoying. Hopefully if the delay is eliminated then the iChat software will do a better job of filtering out the echo. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the first post but the echo only appears on the other end of the iChat, everything on my end is perfect, no echo at all. However, the only new component in the mix from previous iChats is my new Dell monitor.
Thanks again for your help, I'll post back if this works.

  • Do mac minis work with regular dell monitors?

I need to kno this because i am thinking of buying a mac and want to kno if it will work with my monitor i have for windows. And if so, will it be worth it?

Yes, Dell monitors work in perfect harmony with Mac Minis. I used to have an old Dell monitor (left over from our previous PC), and when I used the adapter that comes with the Mac Mini to convert it to the appropriate formate (DVI or VGA or something), it still looked sharp. So its definitely worth it. Plus you save money buying a new monitor.

  • Dell monitors connected with YPbPr instead of RGB

When I connect Mountain Lion Mac to Dell monitors with miniDP-DisplayPort cable, Mac uses YPbPr color instead of RGB.
When I calibrate my monitor with x-rite or datacolor, it shows terrible results.
Lion has not a same problem. And miniDP-DVI cable in Mountain Lion has not a problem, too.
I googled about it, finally found the solution. http://embdev.net/topic/284710
But Apple has to fix this problem.

    http://bugreport.apple.com/
Though, I have a Dell monitor and it allows you to choose between YPbPR and RGB in the on-screen menu.  Are you sure yours doesn't allow this too?

  • RMBP Late 2013 external monitor glitch with Dell UP2715K

I recently picked up the new Dell UP2715K absolutely beautiful 4K monitor, I have however just encountered a problem specifically when using Photoshop mainly when doing skin retouching work with brushes.
When I move the brush or cursor during Photoshop I get black box instead of the cursor and sometimes black lines on the screen. The machine does become slightly laggy also.
These are the specs i'm running on so not an old machine, I also want to add i'm not trying to use the Dell Monitor at 4K either, I was at 2880px wide I think.
    Any help would be awesome.

I have noticed the black box over the cursor on Photoshop CC 2014 only when I have the monitor plugged in. When I unplug the screen it works as normal on the rMBP screen.
I'm not entirely sure what that means, but someone with more knowledge would be able to shed some light on this?
