Ibook wont start up,,,Help!
Hi bought an Apple book tangerine ,second hand, arrived today in good condition but now we cant get it working! Trying to start up and it comes up with the following mess; the finder could not start up because the following system libary can not be found...Help!? Please. Any ideas?
Trying to start up by doing that with the disk but nothing happens, the task bar comes up so is not completely dead but seems like disk wont start. Thanks for helping ( its an ibook tangerine, not ibook g4) not very good with computers, was supposed to be a present for our daughter. Hope its not broken?!

Hello Isabel,
If you have any additional RAM installed remove it and see if it will start. Defective RAM can cause kernel panics and so can a loose AirPort card. Here are the instructions for removing/adding RAM.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

IBook wont start up!!! please help
Hiya Everyone,
My iBook G3 wont start-up. It was fine yesterday but today when i turned tried to turn it on it was completely unresponsive.
When presing the power button nothing happens, no hard drive spin up, no noises...nothing.
This ever happened to anyone before?

Daniel.It sounds like you may be having logic board problems. Enough dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from this problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Check out the FAQ page and if the symptoms look familiar (in other words, any of these things happened before it quit working entirely), give Apple a call. If your iBook qualifies, it's a free fix.
If you are past the three-year time limit, try calling and asking for Customer Relations (NOT Customer Service--they can't help you) and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case.
If the answer from Apple is absolutely, positively, "NO!" DT & T Computer Services will do the repair for $195 plus shipping to and from Fremont, California. They offer a six-month warranty on the repair. They also do free diagnostics, in case the logic board is not the problem.
Or maybe now is a good time to be thinking about a new MacBook? They do look nice. -
Web Services wont start, please help

I appologize up front but I dont really have a lot of experience with OSX server. So yesterday I got a report that my companied website was down. I went in to check the server and it wouldnt log in just got the pinwheel for about 10 minutes so we rebooted it (me and my IT staff). Upon reboot we could login and all seems well except that the web services wont start and our website is still down. when you try and start the service you get:
" A service has encountered and error, Try to refresh the view (172.18.180.15/Web). Report the problem to the administrator if it persists. (could not start web service - details in error log)."
but when you go to the log to see what is going on the last entry says:

that is about the time that the website appears to have gone offline... Also after navigating to the directory it says, there indeed is no error.html but all other files appear to be there. I have also used the terminal to read the last 100 lines of the error log file using tail -100 /var/log/httpd/error_log and get:

So im at a loss and any ideas would be much appricated. I know that earlier in the day one of our web people updated our website to add a calender using dreamweaver but dont know much about exactly what was done.

Troy SmithThanks for the responce. So it looks to me like the content of the webpage is all there , minus the error.html file. Its all located in Library/webserver/documents. I have gone there and am even able to bring up our webpage by launching index.html and it appears to work perfectly with no broken links. you just cant access it from the outside world.

Computer wont start please help
I have a problem with my k8m ne0-v motherboard.
When i placed my new Graphics Card 7600 in the agp slot it wont start windows,
bios just stops after the checking memory part.
There are some text:
del: Setup f11:boot menu f12: Networkboot TAB:Logo ESC:Skip memory test F10: Flash recovery
but only TAB:logo works the rest just change to for example: Go -> Setup if i press del.
Everything works just fine if i change to my old card FX5200.

Ibook wont start, turn it on and just get the fan to start up.
Hi all,
I have a ibook from early 2004 , 1.2 ghz.
Today i took it out of my bag and turned it on and nothing only the fan started up.
Ive done some reading through the forums here and read that someones ibook wouldnt start up with their airport card installed so i removed that and it started up but only for a couple of minutes, the screen then went black then red then green then blue then white.
I use this laptop to make music and have some new material on it which isnt backed up which is the most important thing for me.
would it be possible to take the harddrive out and put it in an external enclosure to get the data i want from it.
I was planning on buying a macbook soon so saving the actual ibook isnt a priority.
If anyone has any idea what could be wrong with it , i would be really grateful and if i save the music on it i might even send you a free copy of my cd.
Thanks for any help or advise in advance.The iBook's GPU is a 9200 ATI Radeon Mobility. It is known to be problematic as it has failure rate higher that expected. This chip is not only used in iBooks it's also in IBMs, Compaqs and Sonys. This from Dale at Superior who has seen a lot of failures in these machines. I have a iBook 1.2 12" board with a bad 9200 and am looking for a replacement board/chip. Yes the chip can be replaced but it requires someone who has experience and the proper equipment.
So if someone wants to send me their board I'd be glad to accept it.
If your chip is putting out anything at all it might still be good. Try the shim fix. It's not as easy as the G3 because the 9200 is on the top and shares the heat spreader with 2 other chips. I think the best thing is to apply pressure from the bottom 2.25" to the right of the space between the monitor and headphone output. You'd have to take the bottom off:

There is nothing on the bottom to tell you there's a monster GPU chip above it. Try to boot as normal. If it boots properly and seems normal it might continue to work with the shim or you could send it for reball. My guy as Superior is sick so I'm waiting with anxiety hoping he gets better.

I ended a host proces and now firefox wont start up Help?
Well Before this everything was fine but now, after i ended a host process (dont know wich one) i open up firefox and it just stays still or frozen and so it wont start up,
I tries restarting the laptop a couple times but nothing.
Id like to also know maybe how to restart that host process i ended thanks.Try to ask advice on a Windows oriented forum.

My macbook WONT START PLEASE HELP!!!
this is what happened:
i put on a movie on my macbook while plugged in to my TV with VGA cable, then i turned it off, and my brother turned it on, and before it finished loading OS X turned it off from the power button, when i tried to turned it on today, my apple logo screen seems to be in a different resolution like the apple is fatter, and it just wont start OS X, but my bootcamp works fine, what can i do, is there anything i can logg in like a safe mode or something?i tried that but nothing happened, i had to reinstall Os X again good thing i had 1 week ago backups of everything on my mac

i decided to update my os 9.0 on my old ibook, and downloaded all the updates that needed to be installed, i started off with installing the 9.04 update, and after that was installed i ran the 9.1 update, during the installation the system promted for a reboot, and after that my ibook locks up when the "loading" bar is in the middle in the starting screen,,, i dont have much mac xpereince, so i would realy apprrecieate any help !Hi, honkatped -

Okay - if it boots okay with Extensions Off, then it would appear you have an extensions conflict of some kind.
Re-installing the OS would not fix that. Instead, it will take a bit of work to find what is causing the problem - it may be an incompatibility with some 3rd-party software item.
First, restart - immediately hold down the Spacebar, keep it held down until Extensions Manager opens; it should do that just before extensions start to load (just before the march of icons across the screen starts).
Once Extensions Manager opens, select Mac OS Base from the Selected Set pulldown menu near the top of the Extensions Manager window. Then continue the startup.
If that boots okay, select Mac OS All as the Selected Set in Extensions Manager, and restart. If that boots okay, then some more work will be needed to isolate the offender. Let us know how it goes to that point. -
Help!
First off, I am running OS X 10.4.9
Last night I was messing with widgets, and found a widget that turns off you computer from the screen. I downloaded it and wanted to test it. I pushed the restart button. Once it Restarted it would get to the apple screen and then freeze. No spinning gear. I reset the PRAM and the PMU. I then tried to do the safe mode boot. No dice. I then backed up all my files onto my external HD via the OS X Install disc 1. I tried reinstalling OS X. Still no dice. Should i try completly Wiping the HD? then reinstalling it?
Also, I just got my iBook repaired a few days ago, The DC adapter was screwed over. Is there any repair warrenty thing incase they got something in the HD that is causing it to not boot.
Oh and by the way, when I tried to boot into safe mode, I saw a Non sign Like as in no smoking that sign.

Have an iBook G4. When I try to turn my computer it sounds like the fan kicks on but nothing else happens. The computer does not start up and the screen stays blank. Any help appreciated!
Have bought a new computer since this has happened, anyway to transferring files from the old hard drive to the new computer without having to get the old fixed?

MEGA 180 WONT START UP, HELP PLEASE.
I have a mega pc 180 and the first problem is the LCD wont work, Tried flashing it with no luck.
The main problem is after its been switched on for about 30 - 60 mins if i shut it down and leave it for about 5 mins it wont switch back on again, then if i leave it and try it the next day it will switch straight on.
The cpu temp is on 35 which is good so dont think it overheating. All i can think of is its a dodgy power supply or maybe the power supply is overheating.
When it wont switch on theres must be some power there as the HIFI led comes on green and i can hear the power go to the cdrom.
Any help would be appreciated, dont really want to package it all back up and send it back.
CheersWhen it won't start up does anything appear on the boot screen ? For instance does it detect video ? Does it detect CPU ? Does it detect memory ? Does it detect disks ? These all output info to the screen while the system is booting and can give a clue as to where the problem is.
Something to try the next time it won't start..... Remove the power plug from the walll...wait 10 seconds... plug it back in and see if that helps. Much easier than waiting 24 hours if it works. I have to do this a couple times a week. Although I have never found a repeatable sequence that causes it to fail. It never the less fails often enough to be a pain. And when it does fail the HIFI works just fine.

My ibook v.10.4.8 wont work without the netadapter. The computer wont even find the battery. The computer is about 4 months old, so I dont think that the battery is really finished. Could it be something else? Some software problem?

The iBook was last manufactured in May 15, 2006 or earlier, as that's when the MacBook replaced it. Anything since then was simply overstock at the shop you bought at or used, refurbished, or demo, unless Apple released MacBooks later in Sweden. Regardless, have you tried running the hardware test that comes with the machine? Article 86287 explains how:
