IBook wont turn on (White Screen)

Every time I turn on my iBook, its sounds normal, but then it will stay on a white screen, even before the apple logo. Its not a pure white screen, almost grey. Any ideas to whats wrong/fix?

Hi! Try booting from the install disc and after the language screen go to the drop down menus and open the disk utility and repair the disk. Tom

  • Ibook wont turn on.

my ibook wont turn on... plugged in, not plugged in, with the batter in, without the battery in... nothing. i closed it like i normally do, instead of shutting it down, and when i went to open it again, i got nothing. so i took out the battery to get it to shut down so i could restart. and when i went to turn it back on, nothing happened... nothing happens and it is really frustrating. i just got my ibook fixed about 4 months ago because it would shut down, now it wont stay on. does anybody have any ideas as to what may be wrong. i really hate taking it into the store, the genius' here are not always the most friendly.

I'm telling you. I have lost all faith with Apple. The old iBook I had, 800MHz G4, simply worked fine with no problem waking up or starting up, although it's just a bit slow. Now, I am super frustrated when it just couldn't wake up, either with the sleep light flashing or not, ie it's black screen initially and when I press the Power button once to get it back to life, it just stays black!!!
So the only thing to do is to force power down by pressing the Power button for 10 seconds. Then I press the Power button once to start up, but it just stays black screen. I've left my iBook in that state for a day now, hoping that it will come back alife. But no! And the worst is, I had a similar problem starting up from wake just the day before. I called the Help Desk and they advised me step by step, from taking out the battery, to pressing OptionsCommand+PR, and OptionsCommand+OC, and doing Apple Hardware Test. The iBook seems to just work fine while on the phone with them. And barely 3 hours later, the thing just couldn't wake up. I've powered down and up many times now, and I've left it powering up, but still black screen till now (one day already).
Finding out about resetting PMU on the support page, I've also tried that, but it still can't work.
And you know what? I've sent this unit for repair 3 times already! First they say it's the HDD problem, so they changed that. Then when it still happened, they say it's the logic board problem, so they changed that for me. And again when it happened, they changed another logic board for me. So now, it's the fourth time, what do you think I should do? I don't think going back changing another logic board will help!
I am in fact ****** off! If Macs are great, then why me? Why my iBook? I am telling this forum that we cannot accept a big corporation giving us sub-standard products. I've since read this forum carefully and found that many of us faced the same problem! We just cannot sit down idly and let the company get away with it. This is a warning to fellow users out there that face this same problem. Let us voice out our frustrations and make Apple give us some compensation for it. I say this because I depend on my laptop iBook for presentation to clients, and this happened exactly twice when I was in front of my clients. I don't mind losing face but can Apple compensate me for my loss of business and future business from my clients?
Voice out strongly your unhappiness to Apple now!

That symptom is covered here.  However, you may have a hardware problem caused by the drop. and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store may be in order.

droid ultra wont turn on  blk screen and phone vibrates every few seconds

        Hello es1040,
The Droid Ultra is an awesome device with a wide range of features to enjoy. We're excited to partner with you and get your phone on so you can enjoy said features. Is there any physical or liquid damage on the device? Also, is the device charged? I would suggest doing a reset to get the phone back to normal. Here's a link on how to do so.

  • My ipod touch wont turn on the screen is balck i tried connecting it to my computer but it wont work.. Can anyone help me ?

My ipod touch wont turn on, The screen is black and i tried to plug it inot my computer and it still wont turn on.. Can someone help me ?.

After charging for at least an hour I would try in order:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  You may have to place the iPod in recovery mode for iTunes to see the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Making an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store

my ipod 5 wont turn on the screen will dim and then it reboots but it keeps happening again

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Macbook wont go pass white screen

  • IBook with a blank (white) screen

The iBook boots up normally, but the screen is blank.
The back-light is on but there are no images at all on the LCD
When hooked to an external monitor it works just fine so I don't think it's that "loose chip on the motherboard" malfunction.
    Things I tried:
If I start the computer from the install disk, it still happens.
I ran the "Apple Hardware Test" disk from my original iBook disks (v 2.2.1) which found no problems.
TechTool 3.0.4 also found no problems.
I replaced the LCD and the ribbon cable and the problem remains.
Tried the catch-all zapping the PRam etc. and F1/F2 to brighten or dim the screen
This came on very suddenly, the computer was operating perfectly the day before with no signs that the display might be going bad.
I wondered if maybe a setting or preference had gone bad but if I try to recalibrate the screen with an external monitor attached, it calibrates the external monitor.
    Anybody got any ideas?
    iBook G4, 1.2MhZ, 24+Gig available

Hi and thanks for the response.
Somebody made that suggestion on MacForums, I found it just this afternoon.
I just finished pulling the LCD inverter and the cable out of my parts iBook and installing them.
    No luck.
(The parts iBook worked fine when I retired it)
I did a close inspection of the offending chip with a 20x loupe, I couldn't see anything wrong.
Just to be sure, I tried putting pressure directly on the offending chip and restarting the iBook,
I still get a white screen.
I can't say that it's NOT the motherboard, but it's not the common motherboard failure.
The computer works fine with an external display.
Just to recap for those who didn't read the first post:
Tried 2 different screens, one brand new.
Tried 2 different ribbon cables to the screen.
and now; replaced the LCD inverter and cable.
    Pram, yadda yadda yadda
TechTool and the iBook Apple Hardware Test both show normal.
The F1 and F2 keys have no effect, but the backlight does dip when you plug in the external monitor or the machine goes into energy saver.
The computer boots up and works normally on an external monitor,
the screen is not black, it's white. The fan does not run wild.
I don't know why but I keep feeling like it's a software issue.

  • G5 wont boot past white screen,or if it does keyboard&mouse don't work

Before it had this mega crash it had been having trouble starting up - the fan was making jet engine noises and taking forever for it to get to my desktop. It then proceeded to crash a few times during the week when using Illustrator. Then last week it went kaput. The mouse would jump across the screen then freeze,so had to use power button to switch off.Unfortunately our I.T manager has no clue with macs, it just so happens she installed some RAM the weekend before, or could this be a coincidence? The RAM was removed to see if was corrupt but this made no difference to start up.
Anyway I've tried starting up from the original disk, leopard disk and holding down all the keys people have suggested on start up. it gets as far as the white screen then the no entry symbol appears. When I try without any disk it gets to my desktop, but the keyboard&mouse do not work.
If there are any suggestions I would be grateful for your help. Otherwise I guess it's sending it off to a repair place?

With the Install Disc in the drive "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
If it still panics, disconnect the HD again & see if it boots offth Install Disc.
Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMDOption+of ?

reading this, your hdd has unfortunately died. have you backed your system up? if you have it is not as bad as it seems.
you will have to buy a new drive and simply restore to that drive from the backup.
