IBooks 1.1.1 update erases / Deletes / Hides all books on my iPad
I just upgraded to iBooks 1.1.1 on my ipad running 3.2.1
After the upgrade, All my books and pdfs are "missing" (I see an empty shelf)
This happened to me when I upgraded from 1.0 to 1.1 as well.
interestingly, When I connect the iPad to the Mac, itunes shows the thing having all the books on.
If I drag a single book from the books view in iTunes back to the iPad, it does a very quick sync, then all books and pdf's re-appear on the ipad.
Has anyone else seen this issue? (It upgraded on my phone just fine)
We are looking into this issue. Can you answer the following questions:
1. How many books were on the device?
2. If "a bunch", how long did you wait before you felt the books were lost?
3. Do you remember how many epubs? How many PDF's?
4. Does iTunes-sync see the books as still on the device? (the space meter along the bottom of the Summary Pane).
5. Does adding (or removing) a book through iTunes Sync restore the books to the shelf view?
Can you also tell me what device / OS you are using? Thanks.

MBP and an iPad - all with latest updates.
FWIW, the books came back on their own after I restarted my iPad. Last time they didn't until I re-synced. Hope that helps.

iPad
Before you delete, be sure you have a backup of the audiobook. You will need to repurchase it if you want to download it again. To delete an audiobook:
Tap the Music app.
Tap the More category.
Tap Audiobooks.
Tap and hold the audiobook you want to delete.
Tap the "x" that appears on it.

so i dropped a few thousand books onto my ipad -- i read a few deleted a few, and deleted ones i read etc...when I go into my itunes on my laptop i want to delete the books i don't want anymore -- in the section listing my ipad the books are unchecked but i can't delete them from there - if i go into the books section of my itunes .. the books are there but i have no way to tell which ones i want deleted ...so i go back to my itunes where it shows my ipad and the books i deleted are unchecked -- do i have to write them on paper or something so when i click on my books library i can know which to delete? help!!

IOS5 update has deleted my all Photos, Music and Video.

Please help me. I have updated my iPod 4g with iOS5, while updating it asked me to sync/backup which i have taken already.
Once iOS5 got installed on iPod all the Photos, Audio and Video got deleted. Is there any way to get that lost data back to my iPod.Sounds like you didn't have those sync options turned on in iTunes (on mac) when you updated.
If you have backed up prior to the update you should be able to restore your data. (restore from backup).
On iTunes go to preferences then devices to see a list of your recent backups before you begin.

On my IPad, the books I have downloaded are there; however, the text has disappeared. It only happened with the books that were older. Any idea how I can get the text back on these books?
Try closing the iBooks app. Press the home button to get to the home screen if you're not already there. Then double click the home button. Locate the iBooks icon at the bottom. Hold your finger down on it until a red minus appears. Tap the red minus. Press the home button to return to normal. Then relaunch iBooks.
If that fails, delete the books, then you can redownload them under the Purchased tab in "Store." -

Updating to iOS7, have Nook books on my iPad. When syncing/backing up iPad, Nook wouldn't backup. If I were to upgrade without backing this app up, will I loose all my Nook books or are they saved in a B&N library? I seem to find nothing that actually answers this question anywhere.

Yes, they are in your B&N library, even if they are deleted from your iPad and computer.
I should add this question is coming from someone in management so I am trying to solve their problem for them. He said that the app itself didn't back-up, all other apps did.
So, he can just reinstall the app (if it does't sync after upgrade), go into the app and download the books from their library? I am not familiar with Nook. He just doesn't want to loose all his books, which I understand completely. -
My books are no longer in the iTunes library on my MacBook Pro. They are not in my iBooks, either. I had over 200 books in my iTunes library, all synced to my iPad 2. I deleted them from the iPad as I read them, knowing I still had them in iTunes. Then I updated to iOS 7. I still have the books I haven't deleted from my iPad, but all the other ones are nowhere to be found. No books in iTunes, no books in iBooks. Where are they? the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1). -

Sadly without the system disk you can't do a lot. I would suggest you enable root user, log in as root and reset your administrators password, however you can't without knowing the administrator password first.
The only solution would be is to obtain the correct system disk or buy a retail copy of Mac OS X. But note, it depends on what version of the iBook you own depends, on what version of Mac OS X you will require.
You can still obtain the system disk or retail disks from online vendors, but they come at a cost.
System disk are grey in color, while retail disk have a big 'X' on it.

You should always have your apps on your computer. If you have failed to keep a copy of the old app versions, then you cannot get them back at all.

I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?

I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.
This is exactly how I think this feature should work. If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).
The iOS app is working differently for me. Here is a picture of the purchased tab on the iBooks store in iOS Ibooks. Again notice that pictures of Lilly is still yet to be downloaded. This is how I expected it to look.

In case there was an issue with syncing I tried logging in and out of my iTunes account via settings in iOS. Force closing the app, disabling automatic downloads and removing my device from iTunes in the cloud. Syncing with iTunes on the mac did not correct the issue either.
Interestingly I have the same issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3 as I do on my iPad mini suggesting that this might be an issue either with my account or with iOS iBooks software in general.

Yes you are miss understanding the problem. To clarify. The problem is not how to delete the book from a device, it is how to delete the puchase (i.e. the history). You can hide it in your account settings, but you cannot delete it. So if you buy something on a shared account (i.e. a family account like mine), your children can see and download any of your puchases - forever.
Some will say it's for your protection. A bit like the shop looking after your receipt, so that you cannot lose it.
However, I thought that as part of the data protection act, you could ask for this information kept about you to be deleted, but this doesn't apply to Apple purchases. Believe me I've tried.
