IBooks 1.2.1 fixes?

What exactly did this update fix? I'm still at version 1.1 because of all the bugs that were in 1.2 but would like to know if they were finally fixed.
Specifically I'm concerned about the following:
Book loading bug
PDF cover bug
Organization bug
Shelving graphic bug

  • Ibooks author how to fix missing file error message

I have cut and pasted many jpg images into my iBook in iBooks Author.  All the pictures appear to be displayed but whenever I open the iba file I get many error messages saying that many of the files are missing.   How do I diagnose and fix this issue?   Any ideas on how to debug or fix this would be appreciated.

Yosemite is not supported for Encore, but neither was Mavericks (even though it is on the list, I don't think it is truly "supported," and there were issues).
Many of the issues in Mavericks and Yosemite appeared to be permissions. Most Adobe apps need read/write access, and those were not the defaults for the OS.
Some Mavericks users reported the following fixes their problems - I eventually assumed that somewhere in the process, it was fixing permissions. But perhaps it does more:

And comments for these operating systems for Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, and After Effects may be helpful. (Encore does not have a support team that is active, so nothing official for it.) But there are specific bug fixes for these OSs in CC versions, so....

The workaround was not to left-click on the menu. Use right click, or other options and menu commands.

  • Epub sound on ibooks (exported to epub (fixed layout)

I download this exercises files from adobe.com
Add interactivity to fixed layout EPUBs | Adobe InDesign CC tutorials
then i export the file to epub (fixed layout), this works perfect in my iMac iBooks, but the sound don't work in my iPad iBooks, any idea?

    Hi,
There is an issue on iOS7 with playing sounds, with latest iOS8 there is no such issue. Issue could be there if you trying on iOS7, I would suggest trying same epub on iOS8 and see if issue is there as well.
    Thanks

  • Should I add iBooks or wait for fixes

As a newer iPad user, I have been hesitant to add apps. I would like to add iBooks but after reading of problems with current version, I wonder if I should wait. Or are the problems occurring only with users upgrading from the previous version?

Just about any application in existence is declared to be defective and unusable by some group or other. The internet tends to concentrate the negative. A small group can appear to be massive if vociferous enough. Never take anonymous and anecdotal online reports as anything other that what they are. Take the famous (or infamous) case of the iPhone 4 "antennagate" issue for example. A small number of users with various motives and experiences blew the issue up into some massive failure. There were sarcastic, outraged videos posted. The tech press went ballistic. Yet here we are a later and you see or read absolutely nothing about it. Nothing has changed about the iPhone 4's antenna. It's still the same as it was when it was declared to be the issue that would end Apple once and for all. So what happened? Nothing. The antenna issue was blown out of proportion by a small group using the internet to concentrate their negative opinions.
And so it is with iBooks.

I just got the iBooks update and that fixed the problem, except the book covers look like they were done in a government printing office.

  • Problem when zooming in on a PDF in iBooks

In iBooks, when pinching to zoom in on (enlarge) a section of certain PDFs, entire square or rectangular sections of the document go completely black or white, rendering that portion unreadable until I zoom back out. Sometimes, leaving iBooks and then returning fixes the problem, only to resurface on another page of the document. Sometimes nothing fixes it and I just have to quit iBooks and hope it doesn't resurface on next launch. See the screencaps below.

I have this same problem and it's been drving me nuts for months.

  • My ibook is horrible

my ibook is so bad it froze while reinstalling the ibook software.i was told that reinstalling the ibook/apple software should fix the problem. does anyone have a suggestion on how fix it?
    thanks

    Hi Vtjm23,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I wouldn't give up hope yet. I don't know what exactly you are doing or what exactly is wrong so I can't say much. It sounds like to me that you should bring you iBook to your local Apple Store/Reseller. There they can take a look at your computer, try it themselves, and then show you how to do it. I am not saying you did it improperly, but maybe something is wrong with your discs.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon
PS Please walk us through how you are reinstalling. Are you using the original discs?

  • IBook G4 Blue Screen

Since this problem seems to have happened with most people here, as a result of an Apple software update, Apple should be responsible to help us solve this problem. It is their responsibility. ... They broke it, They bought it.
Has anybody gotten through to Apple regarding this mess?? Has anybody found a solution?

  • IBook G3 acts weird

Hello, I'm new around here and I would like to ask some questions.
I don't know why, but my iBook starts to act weird lately. When I put it in sleep mode and then reopen it later, it froze. It has been like this for a few days. Then yesterday, when I was doing surfing on the internet, everythign was lagging and then my laptop froze. So I shut it down but when I start it up, it takes a long time before it gets to the desktop and there's some piercing noise all the long.
Can someone tells me what happens to my iBook and how to fix this?

    Pendragon:
Welcome to Apple Discussions. Hope you won't be new for long. It is a good place for Mac users to visit.
Your computer probably needs a spot of maintenance. I would begin by booting from the install disk holding down the "C" key. Go to the installer menu and open Disk Utility. Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the let panel and First Aid in the main panel. click on Repair Disk. If DU reports errors, Repair again and again until DU reports no errors. If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
The next thing I would do is to run Unix Maintenance (CRON cleaning) using a utility like MacJanitor or Onyx.
Here is a link to Gulliver's article on OS X Maintenance which I have found very helpful: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607640&#607640
    Good luck.

  • About iBooks and the yellow submarine

Hey guys, I want to know in what tool was the beautiful yellow submarine ibook made. It has great animations and I'd like to produce something like that. Any ideas on what was it made in?

Yellow Submarine (published by Subafilms Ltd.) uses Fixed Layout ePub which were introduced in December 2010 with iBooks 1.2. Fixed Layout books appear in the store with a minimum requirement of iBooks 1.x
iBooks Author books create a different file format and do not support the fixed layout ePub Read aloud narration features. iBA files appear in the store with a minimum requirement of iBooks 2.x

  • Highlighting in IBooks new version

When I select the text in IBooks sometimes the only option I get is Speak, I don't get highlight anymore. Do you know what caused this? Or how to fix it? Thanks

I think I have discovered the cause.
I wanted to see if I could alter the voice in Settings, Accessibility, speak selection (ios5 had only an Australian option, which was awful: ios6 has several dialects, much better). I tried the changes on an iBooks selection, which worked fine but still no highlight bar functions, then wondered what would happen if I turned off speak selection.
I turned  off speak selection, quit iBooks, restarted the ipad, reopened iBooks and voila! I could get the highlight bar with all its functions except speak.
Just to make sure, I turned speak selection on again, and again all options except speak disappeared in iBooks.
So now I have highlighting but no speak capability.
I have sent all this info to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks, hopefully they will fix this rather glaring bug.

  • Is IBA a serious creation tool or just a necessary evil/iBooks gatekeeper?

Over the last few decades, I've taught myself QuarkXpress, Photoshop, InDesign, and many other programs, so I understand learning curves. But I'm not sure I've ever been quite as frustrated as with IBA. Perhaps this is a result of its being "Apple-intuitive" (in other words, it will make no sense until you think the way we want you to think). Perhaps it results from having no competition. Or perhaps my experience in creating print and epub with professional tools is getting in the way.
Or perhaps I should simply start from scratch, despite having many hours into my first IBA project.
I'm curious how others approach this thing with an existing book that you want to put in IBA form:
Are you able to use IBA on its own (in other words, if I master IBA's Apple-intuitiveness, does IBA promise a productive workflow, or just more quirkiness?)*
Do you import IDML files (I didn't get very far with this; guaranteed to crash InDesign)?
Do you create an epub, import it, and tweak in IBA? (my best result so far)
Or do you just send the project to someone in India and let them figure it out?
I don't mean this to come off completely as a rant, but at this point I'm really questioning whether I'll ever be able to develop a productive workflow with IBA. It really seems like a necessary evil/last step to the iBooks store with a fixed layout epub.
    * I really appreciate answers to my questions elsewhere, but basically none of my issues have been solved. I can't replicate the "fixes" people give me.

    dr_box wrote:
I see now that InDesign launched fixed-layout epub export last summer, so that for me is probably the route to go for what I'm trying to do, and skip IBA altogether.
Yes, I think InDesign is a good choice unless you really need the interactive widgets that iBA provides.   Plus your book will be readable on any platform.

  • IBook with CPU panic

One of my friends had a problem with his iBook G4, at startup it says: cpu panic. What to do now? Could this be related to another previous problem? A month ago he opened the iBook to try to fix a video problem (the screen was failed) but at this point I'm worried he damaged something. Any suggestions? Thanks

OMG, I was wrong! He called me now and he told me it's his PowerMac G4 (without airport card) that is failing. Suggestions?
