IBooks 3 broke Airplay?

We make hand-coded, read-aloud iBooks. They highlight words as they are read in the audio. One of our customers' favorite ways to consume our books (and one of our favorite ways to demo our books) is to put them up on a TV screen via Airplay. It's an excellent experience.
Unfortunately, since iOS6 and iBooks 3, this doesn't work anymore. We can still turn on Airplay (display mirroring) and show the book on the TV but as soon as we start read-aloud the screen goes black and acts as though it's going to play a full-screen video. As soon as the read-aloud is done for the page, the view of the page returns. We can replicate this behavior with any book including Apple's own Fixed Layout example book.
My question: has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone have any workaround ideas?

Hi gadgetmax, I noticed the same problem as well. I tested on an Apple TV 2 and 3, across iPads and iPhones, and no luck finding a workaround. I checked the Asset Guide and noticed it was updated to 5.1. I made the revisions to my epub and tried again but still no luck. Apple also updated their Fixed Layout Example to 3.0 but again that also exhibits the same issue. I'm guessing we'll just have to wait until Apple fixes this bug in iBooks. If you find anything else I would love to hear it.

Yosemite broke AirPlay

Netintalling iBooks broke, Macooks fine?

Hi All,
I've been, for the past week, imaging Macbooks using netinstall. Everything has been going great. I used three different images from a xServe G5. DHCP is running on the G5 as well.
All the sudden, when I tried to image the iBooks with an iBook image, the iBooks seem to just hang. I have no idea what the difference is between today and yesterday.
I created the iBook image using disk utility to create a compressed dmg. Then I used the system image utility to create the install image. I have tried a different image that worked a couple days ago for the ibooks, and that one now doesn't work.
This is very strange to me, but hopefully someone here might have an answer. Thanks!

iOS 3.2 is actually the ipad's software version. IBooks can run on the ipad and on ios4 devices(ipad doesn't have iOS 4 yet).
As a 1st gen ipod touch, you won't be able to use iBooks. Apple is trying to phase out support for older products.
I suggest using the app "Stanza" instead. It is a great book reader and I honestly think it runs better than iBooks. It just has a seperate store not a part of apple if you wanted to buy any books. Also, it has all the free books that are available through iBooks too.

IOS 5.0.1 broke AirPlay (on all iOS devices) still works from iTunes on mac... ???

Does AirPlay still work for anyone else?
It still works from iTunes on the mac, so I know the AirPort express isn't broken.
AirPort express (802.11g) firmware 6.3 (latest)
iPhone - no audio
iPad - no audio
iTunes - works fine
Also, the iPod functionality on the iPhone seems to randomly cut out and "pause" tracks now.

Nothing personal (or maybe just a little personal), but simply copying my post from a day earlier as your own is not helpful to the Apple communities or people that coming here looking for support.
It does nothing more than add a duplicate post and decrease the chances that someone might actually include a reference to my original post, which came from MY OWN HARD WORK in troubleshooting my issues.
If you are having a similar issue, post the issue after doing your own leg work and describe in your own words. Don't simple steal someone else's hard work to troubleshoot the problem as your own effort.

I have airplay button but it won't work from imac to ATV. Phones are a-go however...

Current household setup:
-most recent imac that didn't get lyposuction. Not upgraded to 10.7.5. Currently sitting at OS update one before that.
-2x Iphone 4S
-Apple TV, most recent model, updated to latest update.
-Linksys 2600E wireless router
So currently, I can airplay and mirror from both iphones to the Apple TV with zero issues. Music streaming, youtube mirroring and browsing all works flawlessly. However, when I attempt to stream a .mp4 movie from itunes to the apple TV by either playing it on the imac OR playing it from the Apple TV it fails.
Everything worked perfectly until I updated the Apple TV to 5.1. The moment that update went through, it "broke" airplay between the imac and ATV. Now, in iTunes I still have the airplay icon and it's clickable to select Apple TV for streaming, but when it begins, it just sort of hangs then eventually times out.
I've managed to get it to work briefly (for 20 minutes) by changing some router settings, but nothing permanent. From memory (I'm currently at work) the settings on my router are as follows:
-WPA, non hidden SSID
-MAC Address filtering OFF
-2.4GHZ on 20hz only (as suggested by apple support page)
-5ghz on 20 to 40
-Port forwarded the following ports, now this is from memory so may not be 100% - 123, 3689, 5353 http://http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2463
-the band or channel signal is set to Auto for both.
These are the settings as recommended by Apple and it still doesn't work. I think that the 5.1+ update screwed with some wifi settings in the ATV airplay fuctionality but I'm pretty confused about everything. How come it works via iphones, but not from the imac? (which is also on wifi)
My iphone, iMac and Apple TV have the same home share account logged in, all on the same WIFI network, through the same router. It's odd.
If anyone has suggestions or answers, I'd be thrilled to try them out or look into them further.

Airplay not working on Airport Express N in Extended Network

I have a setup as in the diagram below. Internet Router connected to my Airport Express N which creates a N-class network. Then I have an Time Capsule in another room that extends this network. My iMac is connected to this Time Capsule using Ethernet (WiFi is turned off completely).
iTunes is 10.6.1 (7)
Airport Express and Time Capsule have the latest firmware (v7.6.1)
Internet, sharing and other functions are working fine, just Airplay from the iMac doesn't work anymore to the Airport Express. I've tried lots of solutions, and this just seems to be broken. I've submitted to Apple feedback as well explaining the situation and that this doesn't work.
If I add/remove a password or enable/disable airplay on the Express, it does reflect in iTunes. It also shows that the Airplay is locked/unlocked (see image) and also shows it as a visible audio destination. But when you activate it from iTunes, it doesn't ask for any password (if enabled), but it just displays the "connecting" dialog for about 1 minute and then closes the window without any error and just does nothing. It's like iTunes cannot communicate to the Airport Express, although at the same time I can connect to it's internal configuration (edit) and also connect to the internet, my router's config using a browser, etc. without any problems. Also, if I'm using my iPad and iPhone, I can easily use the Airport Express from those devices, but NOT from the iMac.
I'm thinking Apple broke Airplay in this type of scenario.
Anyone with any ideas. I have a big hot paperweight called an Airport Express plugged into the wall in my bedroom now.

My problem is similar but not always the same. I have a Time Capsule extended by an Airport Express which in turn is connected to my hifi. My Imac is connected to the TC by Ethernet alone - no wifi. The connection from the TC to my AE is done by a mains wiring ethernet connection which works superbly for TV streaming etc. However, sometimes when I try to connect to the AE for music, I get an error message whicg says that is not possible to connect to the Airplay device. If I restart the Imac, it connects immediately and without problem and will run for as long as I want. Once stopped, I then get the error messge again until I restart.

Sorry about this being extremely long.
Recently my iBook broke down so i sent it to get repaired turned out something was wrong with the hard drive so all my stuff went bye bye. I thought i had backupped everything but i realzed about 600 songs were not so i didnt want to lose them so i put my ipod into manual mode so i can keep them, but one day while adding a podcast something happened and iTunes crashed. After that wen i plugged back in my iPod it was no longer recognized by iTunes unless i erased everything and started over so after a week i decided to say goodbye to the songs and redo everything. I hooked up my hard drive and addded the songs to my ipod it was sort of a lot of songs, about 5300. So i let it update then watched a movie to let the time go, when i came back it still wasnt done so i started watching it to see how fast it was going, i quicly realized it was stuck at a certain song meaning at song about 4700 it just stopped syncing. I found the song in iTunes and played it to see if it worked, it did but i thought its just one song so i deleted it to move things along, nothing changed I guess iTunes didn't realized i delted it cuz it was still trying to add it, so i clicked the eject button so i could unplug it and plug it back to finish the syncing. When i did this itunes froze and after about 5 minutes i restarted my ipod by holding down menu and play, because itunes would not quit no matter how many times i hit the force quit button, but as soon as i unplugged the ipod it quit automaticly. So i grabbed my ipod and noticed NONE of the songs were there yet the space had still been taken up so I got very mad then plugged it back in and watched it update for half an hour then once again on a different song it froze. i got very mad, so mad i slammed my fist on my laptop and my ipod. I guess i was very mad because i cut myself and bled from the click wheel. Then I did it a third time, this time being very careful. Every 1000 songs i ejected it and checked if the songs were working then i plugged it back in, i did this 4 times then i stopped for the night because from the first time i plugged it in till that point had taken about 5 hours. So i played a few songs on it to make sure everything was fine, and it was fine indeed so i thought i wud update it later. A few days later i got some new music so i added them and every now and then i would add little by little. However now it doesnt work, it is doing what it used to do. When i try to add new music it maybe adds 4 or 5 then stops adding them and if i try to quit iTunes it freezes and wont quit until i unplug the ipod, when i unplug the ipod i get the warning thing, but all the songs work fine EXCEPT the songs i was trying to add. I thought maybe I should just wait so i updated it today and after waiting about 30 minutes for a song to update i was fed up. I do notice that the hard drive makes noises every once in a while, I know hard drive make noise because they spin and bla bla bla BUT what i hear is like a "da da da da da da" like it keeps tryin to write something but cant. I kind of think when i slammed my fist on it i might have messed something up internally that is why it always stops updating past a certain point. What do you think? The worst part is the warrenty juss expired a few weeks ago, so if I am right and the hard drive is the problem how much do you think it costs to fix it?

I have the same problem as yours with my 3rd Gen iPod, which hardly pass thru the 100 songs mark. Seems there are some recovered bad sectors on the Hard drive of the iPod. see doing the following helps
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

Moving info from backup hard drive to new iMac

The hard drive on my 3 year old ibook broke recently and no longer works. I have a back up external HD which backed up everything under my name 'timbarton'. I have now bought a new mac, but can't work out how to migrate things across to the imac from the external HD. Things like calenders, address book, email, itunes, photos (I have tried this manually but the photos loose their key words, albums, ratings etc). Any ideas? I also have an ipod nano which has all my songs, calender, address book on so I thought I could use that. When I plug it in though and it loads up itunes it says the computer isn't authorised and do I want to wipe the ipod clean - no! I should point out I'm not connected to the internet yet (I only bought the iMac 2 days ago) as my broadband supplier has to send a new Leopard friendly modem. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

Bad Apple experience/turn off grifical extra;s leopard

So I give up! It started with my iBook a few weeks ago. A burned adapter. My Girl burn her fingers and a big flame came out of it (were lucky becouse we were home).. iBook dead, no service!
Now my iMac has trouble. Greenblocks (ghost pixels) broken Ati X1600 video card. To bad no support. Also a G3 iBook broke down, and my old G5 iMac. Also a year ago the monitor of my Power Mac!
I give up Apple! I like the looks and the OS, but the hardware s*cks hard! Worse service, worse support and worse helpdesk! No more apple for me!

Sorry, how can I turn of shadowing/3D, and most grafical options in leopard. So i don't have to start in save-mode all the time. All my mac's broke down, and I still have no new PC.

Sleepmode screen

hey there,
i'm having a prob with my ibookg4 (10.4.11) and sleepmode. the screen of my ibook broke a couple of days ago (white strip at the bottom) i'm not repairing the screen, so i hooked it up with an external screen, everything works fine. my question would be: is there any chance to close the laptop without it going to sleep so i can work on the external screen.
help would be gr8!

Well the only way to do that is to defeat the action of the reed switch. 1) by unplugging the reed switch cable. 2)by removing the actuating magnet in the top case.
However the common wisdom is not to do this because of heat buildup from the hard drive and the heat spreader.

I made purchases on ibooks and phone broke before i got a chance to back up, i cannot find these purchases in my itunes so please help as have spent alot of $ and really would hate for that to be a waste ?

I made purchases on i books on my iphone 4 but it broke before i got a chance to back it up have since gotten a new phone but half the books are missing.

If they are still in the store then you should be able to re-download them via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, or via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.

Apple Support Communities / iBooks / iBooks for iOS Videos in iBooks don't start while mirroring with AirPlay since iOS 8 update

Since the iOS update to iOS 8 the iBook I sell in the iBook-store don't play any Video while mirroring with AirPlay. It´s not even starting the video via AirPlay if I push play. If I start the video with the "open-gesture" with two fingers it starts - but only the sound. Since this is a schoolbook the AirPlay mirroring of Videos is quiet important to me. With iOS 7 everything worked fine. Even if export my iBook from iBooks Author on my computer everything works fine. But if I upload it via iTunes Producer and download the book from there store (like a regular costumer), it doesn't work anymore. I've checked the specs of all my videos - everything should be fine. Also iTunes Producer only accepts m4v and mp4 videos (they are all) - there is no warning that something is not correct if i upload my book to the store. I tried a lot ... i used the built-in encoder on MAC OS X Yosemite, I also used Quicktime and some open source programs to code my videos...but nothing worked. I'm really desperate...does anybody has a similar problem..?

Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

i just updated to 10.9.2 and now when i try and airplay mirror to my Apple TV, it sends the audio but just shows a black screen and i can't drag anything to it. It doesn't show any of the options for external displays in the displays section of System Preferences.
Any ideas? i tried reapplying the combo update with no luck

I have the same problem. But I could narrow it down to what might be causing it: When you start Airplay mirroring it starts the service and probably passes through the image. However, you cannot chose if you want to mirror your desktop or extend it. In the picture "Schreibtisch erweitern" means extend the monitor. But you want the other option "xxxxxxxxx spiegeln" (I have two computermonitors, that's why there are two options), which means mirror the appropiate desktop. But If I click on it, then it doesn't change from extended to desktop mirroring.
