some PDFs which are displayed in iTunes (and work correctly in iTunes) are shown on the iPad as blank sheets - i think it is a problem of ibooks

Lion, mail 5.0 and PDF problem

Hi guys,
I've got couple of problems with sending PDF files:
(my OS is in finnish, so the translations are not accurate, but you get the picture)
a) from print-pdf-send to mail. The PDF attachment is visible in the mail to be sent, but when you write receiving address you get this warning:
" '''''is not a correct email address. Send mail anyway? " ''''' are actual signs appearing on this warning.
b) when sending any document as a PDF- file, the receiver doesen't get the attachment at all.
This is very frustrating, as I´m sending invoices, which clients are not receiving.
All these above are Mail 5.0 bug/problems. Anyone got the same problems?? Solutions?
I´m forced to use either webmail (lousy interface...), or another mail app. Any suggestions...T-bird, Entourage...?

It's a pdf file problem solely. Doesn't work on IMAP (primary) or POP.
All other files work fine ( ... well sorta- files ending w/ .xls are a bit of a problem too, but
that does not bother me at all).
Works well with T-bird ( my primary mail app, until a fix has been made) and even Entourage ( webmail works also fine)
It has also something to do with "preview", because I found a way around this:
open the pdf w/ adobe reader, save it and attach it to your mail. This works fine,
BUT... it does'nt solve the print- mail as pdf glitch and it is very time consuming and
extremely annoying.
Yes, I have filed a bug report a while ago.

IBooks and PDF embed audio

I heard that ibooks allow embedded audio and video contents in new version. I have PDF embed audio, Does ibooks support this type ?

iBooks has specific guideslines for how audio and video are included in an EPUB file.

Windows 7, Epson DX 4000 and pdf problem

Hi There People
I currently run on my tower Windows 7 which is linked to an Epson DX 4000 all in one printer.
Stats on this machine ( which I built ) Win 7,Intel 2.5Ghz Quad, 8gb ddr3 memory, 2tb hdd.
The problem is when I scan a document it will not save it as a pdf file, even though I have Adobe installed on my machine. version 11.0.3.
It will scan normal jpgs etc, but will not scan and save as a pdf.
Now the funny thing is if I boot up my old machine that runs XP and hook up the Epson it will scan a pdf file without a problem.
Stats on this machine ( which I built ) Win XP AMD Athlon 4Ghz Dual core, 8gb ddr2 memory, 500gb hdd.
I can't believe that the fault lies between Win 7 & XP

The software you're using to scan and save is from Epson, not Adobe. (Adobe Reader just reads the PDFs, it has no job in making them.) The problem might be a different version of the software, or even completely different software. It won't be Windows, as it doesn't do that either.
If you purchase Adobe Acrobat, it should be able to scan (and of course save as PDF), but if you want to solve this problem with the scanner software you'll need to contact Epson.

IFrame and PDF problems

Hi,
I have the Iframe pointing to a PDF. But when I do that none of the menus will appear. ie. The Iframe settings menu will not appear. And the sub menus off the main menu appear behind the PDF. Is there an easy fix to this? I'm not sure its Adobe's fault or not but if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Did you solve this problem with the submenu buttons behind your PDF? We've got same problem here and currently looking for something to solve this problem else we have to open the pdf in a new window which doesn't look well.

Ibooks and pdf sync

Will ibooks sync a pdf I save on the iPad or iPhone to iBooks on my Mac?
Not a purchase throught he store?

If you connect your iPad or iPhone to your Mac and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases then they should copy over (Transfer Purchases should copy PDFs and epubs that are in the iBooks app on the device, not just actual ibooks) - in iBooks on your Mac you might then need to to do File > Move Books From iTunes to move them over to it.

Networking iBook and iMac problem?

I connect both computers with LAN cable on the Ethernet ports. Then I turn on File Sharing on both computers, then I Go and Connect to Server. Yet, they don't see each other! The iBook is using Panther 10.3.9 and I gave the computers names too. This is my first time trying to connect two computers. Whats the problem? Ant tips will be welcome.

On each Mac go to System Preferences > Network and make sure AppleTalk is switched on on the Ethernet port.

IBooks and PDF default page colours

Hi there,
I was wondering if you can change the page colour of a PDF in iBooks? The default colour is white with black text. Can you change the page default colour to say yellow with black text at all?

Hi I got an iPad 3 for around 5 months ago and I did not have any display problems... i bought it for reading books on iBooks and when I open PDF to read and when I full zoom in letters and words then it was so clear and no pixels were found but today

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

Problems Importing pdfs into iBook and sync to iPad air 2

Is there a solution to what appears to be a widespread problem within the community? That of not being able to import books in pdf form into iBooks and subsequently syncing with an iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.1. This seems to be specific to pdfs not 'purchased' from iTunes. In the past I have had all my software manuals available on my iPad, synced with my iMac, all working happily and would dearly love to return this situation.
I then upgraded to iOS 8. Big mistake. iTunes on the iMac (OS 10.6.8) does not sync pdfs to new iPad.
Try syncing from MacBookPro (OS 10.10) still no luck.
There are suggestions to use iTunes, but there is no longer an option to view 'Books' in iTunes.
Can anybody offer a work around until such times as the collective 'apple digit' is removed and a not so 'minor bug' is fixed?
Are Apple working on this problem or even aware of it?

Have you tried the shortcut to add books/pdfs Command Shift O?

Maybe I didn't explain myself very well earlier. When I am working in iBooks, having control clicked multiple files and selected 'Open With iBooks' to get the pdfs into iBooks, (as per your suggestion) a click on a pdf icon initiates nothing, a double click causes the pdf to open in Preview. This I can achieve from the Finder.
The reason I haven't tried to sync from the MBP is that I rely on iPad iBooks as a reference source. At the moment it is working but not the way I want it to (Sync via iMac 10.8.6). When Ibooks on the MBP is finally OK, then I will try.

Turn off rich text in your email signature. Delete images too, if any.

IBooks 3.0 vs 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 - pdf problem - constant indexing

Hello people,
I have recently been having a lot of problems with my iPad 2 and iBooks. I do use the tabet as a reader on a dily basis and I have a lot of scientific and personal documents which I have been storing on my wifi 64gbs iPad.
Everything used to work very well with iBooks version 3.0, in spite of the large quantity of documents on the tablet. Every time I was adding new material (3-4) documents the iPad was responding in a quick way. It would usually detect the new files in a matter of 1- 2 minutes maximum.
I can't say the same thing about iBooks version 3.0.1 or 3.0.2. After the upgrade of the application it starts indexing all the files, which is normal but it takes a very long time to complete the task. At the end of this extremely long procedure,If I add some additional documents (2-3), it seems like the iPad starts once again indexing the whole set of files taking forever to complete the task.
The usage of the battery is unbelivable as well, it started earlier this afternoon and afer hours it's not done yet.
Does anybody have had similar problems?
Any suggestions? I tried to reboot and restart the ipad but doesn't seem to help.
ps I'm using iOs 6.0.1 but it was the same way even before the update - i had problems since they relased the version 3.0.1 of iBooks and never used any jailbreak on this device

Same issue here. Haven't been able to Edit my sections/folders since the upgrade to v3. The 'busy' wheel has been rotating for months. Added a long rant about the problem into the iBooks feedback, but the subsequent revsions didn't fix the problem. Agreed, v2 iBooks was fine.
The problem gets worse as more and more PDF documents are added. What's even more ridiculous is that the 'indexing' process re-starts shortly after the iPad cover is opened. Every time the cover is opened. Every time. If nothing changed, why run the indexing process again? Bizarre. And ridiculous.
I bought the iPad as a book & document reader. This v3 upgrade ruined my experience, and my investment. Whatever cudos Apple held for me evaporated upon the realisation that this untested rubbish could reach global production.
I am so angry, upset, frustrated.

PDFs in iTunes not transferring to iPhone or iBooks and cannot be deleted

I have a few PDF files that I added to iTunes which show up in iTunes under books, but when I either click select all or select those specific books they WILL NOT sync to the actual iPhone. They also WILL NOT transfer to iBOOKS and even worse while they appear in the iTunes library as selectable for copying to devices there DOES NOT APPEAR to be any way to delete or find them.
HELP!!!
I am guessing that the problem has to do with these PDF files NOT being totally compatible with iTunes or iBooks and so they were uploadable, but once there they are stranded and unusable.
Does someone know:
1. How to find these files and delete them from iTunes
2. How to get them into a format that will actually work so I can read them on my phone and other Apple devices.
I am using an iPhone 6 plus with 8.1 and a Macbook Pro with the latest version of Yosemite. I believe that my iTunes and iBooks are also the latest versions.

I have an update. When I convert the original PDF files using CALIBRE to EPUB format (the mac format). I am able to get the files to import directly (ie be added to library) of iBooks and then to iTunes and my phone. I think this confirms that the problem is likely to be one of file incompatibility. However, the file is NOT totally incompatible and so will show up in the part of iTunes where you are supposed to be able to click on it to add it to your device. The problem is that since its not completely compatible clicking on it WON'T allow it to transfer to your device. Fixing this either requires converting this PDF to another PDF format that is compatible, or better yet just convert it to EPUB which presumably will be MORE compatible and allow you to do more features in iBooks (such as resize the fonts etc).
I still have the problem of figuring out how to find and delete the original PDF files which are clearly not any good. I suppose we can go to the root finder level, but where should they be as I don't see them in the iTunes books library?
Any suggestions?

Books and pdf on IPad don't appear in IBooks on MAC

I've read through several solutions to this similar problem and none of the solutions work for me. I've uploaded several ebooks to my mac and they don't appear on the IPad. I've got content (PDF's) on my ipad that doesn't appear on my mac. For example, I've purchased 14 books that appear in the "cloud" and available for download on the Ipad but the purchases in Itunes show 2. I've updated my ipad, mac, ibook and itunes on both devices.
I've had my mac for 6 months and absolutely HATE it. I thought I'd be able to use it to work with files on the Ipad and that has yet to happen. I was hoping to have access to content across devices and that's not happening. At this point I'm feeling very disappointed in Apple products. I've even been to the Apple store and after 3 support people, they couldn't figure it out either.
I'm hoping someone here will know how to fix this.

What are the other solutions that you've tried ? As you don't say what you've tried I don't know whether you've done the following or not.
ebooks and/or PDFs that you've added to the iBooks app on your Mac will not show on your iPad unless you sync them to it, only ibooks bought from the iBookstore will potentially show in the cloud in the iBooks app on your iPad for redownloading on it. If not all of your ibook purchases are showing in your Mac's iTunes or iBooks apps (I'm assuming that you have Mavericks or Yosemite on your Mac) then try logging out and back into your account on it and see if they then show.
If you are using the 'sync collections' setting in Settings > iBooks on your iPad and in the iBooks app on your Mac then that does not copy books and/or PDFs between devices/computers, all it does is if you put a book/PDF into a collection on, say, your iPad, then if it is also in your Mac's iBooks app then it will be moved into the same collection on that - but if a book or PDF is not already on it then it won't copy it onto it.
If you want the PDFs (and/or epubs) that are in your iPad's iBooks app to also be on your Mac then you need to connect the iPad to your Mac's iTunes, do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to your Mac's iTunes, and then in the iBooks app on your Mac do File > Move Books From iTunes to move them into it.
Similarly to get PDFs and/or epubs from your Mac to your iPad, connect the iPad to your Mac, select it in your Mac's iTunes, and use its Books tab to select and sync the books/epubs that you want in its iBooks app.
