IBooks app for OS 5.1.1

I have an iPad with OS 5.1.1, and 5 megs of free RAM.  I bought it specifically because I want to download iBooks from the iTunes store, but now I find that I need the free iBooks app to do that, and when I try to download it, I'm told that I can't because it requires OS 7 or higher.
I have trouble believing that there's no solution to this problem -- I have friends who read iBooks on their iPads with early operating systems all the time, but they're busy right now, and I don't want to disturb them. Anybody have any suggestions?

Yes!  Definitely I appear to be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.  I clicked on the link that King Penguin supplied, and got the Italian version.  He's talking to me in English; I'm sure he's not deliberately supplying me with a link to the Italian version, and, in fact, the page I downloaded it from was written in English.  Which does not change the fact that what installed on my Windows computer was in Italian.  I'm at a total loss here.  I've no notion how this is happening.  I've tried Googling "iTunes for Windows in English," and I get directed to the same page, and a download that installs an Italian version (though the installation itself uses English, which is not what I'd expect from something that's installing Italian speaking software).  Nothing this strange has ever happened to me before, and at 61 years old I've had time to see a lot of strange things.
I'm totally baffled, very frustrated, and worrying that I've just spent over $100 that I can barely afford for something that will prove to be a complete waste.  And don't get the idea that just because I'm in my sixties I'm senile; I am, in fact, genius level, not that it's helping very much.  The fact that I'm willing to ask for help is good evidence of my intelligence.  I'm old enough and smart enough to know when I'm out of my depth and in need of assistance, and I'd supply more information if I had any.  If I knew what I was doing wrong I wouldn't keep doing it.

  • IBook app for Macs?

Is there, or will there be, an iBook App for Macs?

There is not one. Whether there will be one is unknown. Apple has not to date announced one. We are all other Apple users here, so we have no inside story to Apple's future plans on this topic and are forbidden by the ASC's Terms of Use to speculate.

  • Where can I download a copy of the ibooks app for ios 5.1

I recently purchased a new ipad air 2 and handed my old ipad to a relative who is completey new to any kind of computing.  However, I inadvertently deleted the ibook app while deleting all my info.  I want to replace the app but the current app is for ios 7+.  I need a version for ios 5.1.1.  Am I able to find a downloadable compatible copy?  If so where?

He can log out of his own account on the iPad by tapping on it in Settings > Store and then log in with your account - but if you redownload the app from your account then you risk tying the iPad to your account for 90 days : Manage your associated devices in iTunes.
Or you can you log into his account on your computer's iTunes (Store > Sign Out menu option to sign out of your account, and the Store > Sign In with his) and 'buy' the current version of the iBooks app so that it's in his account's purchase history, he should then be able to download an old compatible version of the app on his account in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on the iPad. (The 90 days should only happen if you use iTunes Match, family sharing, automatic downloads or redownloading past purchases, downloading the iBooks on his account will be a new 'purchase' so shouldn't result in the 90 days.)

  • How can I get the iBook app on my Mac to backup ePubs I created with Pages on my iPad? Only seems to want to work with purchased from the ibook store.

How can I get the iBook app on my Mac to backup ePubs I created with Pages on my iPad? Only seems to want to work with purchased books from the ibook store. The problem is, once I create a document in Pages and turn it into an ePub to be opened in iBooks, I delete the document in Pages, because I don't need two copies taking up space on my iPad. Before Maverick, iTunes would backup everything in my iBook app on my iPad. If something ever happened to my iPad, all of my created ePubs would be lost and I would be screwed. I suppose I could keep everything on Pages and go to iCloud and download my documents to my Mac, but that is a lot of steps. I may have to do that if there is no other way, but I am hoping someone will have the answer for me. Pretty disappointed in iBooks app for Mac at this point.

iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

  • Saving Highlighted Text in iBook app?

Can anyone explain if, and how, to upload highlighted book content from the iBook app for creating summaries of the material? Kindle acts as an external drive, found in Finder, but the iPad doesn't seem to be...is this use allowed by the iBook reader app?

Your post raises more questions for me than I can suggest answers for. Among those:
    - what do you mean by upload? Same as export? To where? And how, for that matter?
    - what does Finder mean in the context of an iPad?
    - what does it mean when an app, Kindle here, acts like an external drive? How do you tell, and what can you do with it?

  • IPhone app for MacBook Pro?

I downloaded the IBook app for my Iphone and am enjoying reading books. I see that when I sync my phone, the books from it are moved into ITunes and show up there, but they cannot be read on the MacBook Pro.
Is there a version of the IBook reader software that is available for the laptop so ebooks can be read on it as well as the IPhone?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
at the moment the iBook reader is only avaiable for iPhone and iPad not for OSX.
It's up to Apple to decide whether they will make an OSX version or not.

  • I had recently updated my Ipod touch to the version 11.1.3 and my Ibooks app is no longer on their.

I had recently updated my Ipod touch to the newest version 11.1.3 and my Ibooks app is no longer on on their. Hence I am in the middle of reading a book and am now very frustrated. How do I get it back on their?
-Serious help only, please and thank you.

I do not understand what iTunes on your computer has to do with the iBooks app in your iPod.
You can only read iBooks on an Apple computer with the newers, Mavericks, operating system.
You can redownload the iBooks app for the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Is ibooks available for my macbook?

Is iBooks available for my MacBook?  It seems silly that I can read books on my iPhone and iPad but not my macbook.

No.  Normally on every purchase page in the iBookstore you should see a Requirements section will tells you that an iOS device is required.
Nonetheless you may be able to to read something you get from the iBookstore on your MacBook if it does not have DRM, which is determined by the publisher.  Most free books don't have DRM, and a few paid books (those by O'Reilly for example) also do not have it.  These can be read with an epub reader app like Calibre, Adobe Digital Editions, and others you can find in the app store.
For most paid books, to read them on your MacBook you should get them from one of the other stores, like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony, and read them with the ereader apps provided by those stores.

  • HT5557 How to set Night mode on Ipad Mini iBooks apps when reading PDF file?

How to set Night mode in iBooks (ver 3.1) for iPad Mini?

It's not available within the iBooks app  for PDFs, the closest you can get is to the Invert Colours accessibility option  (though pictures will appear negative) -  you can set Settings > General > Accessbility > Triple-Click Home to 'Invert Colours', which means that you can then use a triple-click of the home button to go to white text on a black background.

  • About the iBook app

Hi there. Does anyone know if the new iBook app for the iPad will be available to download for the iPhone in the United Kingdom at any time? I'm very interested in downloading it though can't since I don't live in the United States.

The iBook app will be available in OS 4. It's not shown up in the beta 1 release. The issue about it appearing in the UK store (or any other for that matter) is dictated by the publishers in each country. Apple will have to negotiate with each country for pricing, profit sharing etc. Here in Sunny South Africa we STILL can't download any music. The apps are also occasionally SA-centric. I've no idea if this is Apple being lax in negotiating or the local music (and book) distributors being greedy. Funny that Nokia has a fully working music store here (but only for PC's!!!!!)
Come on Apple - put a smile on our faces. It's the biggest hurdle for me NOT to buy an iPad
