IBooks Author Crashes. A lot. Anyone else?

iBooks Author Crashes. A lot. Anyone else?
I have tried on 2 IntelMacs running Mountain Lion.
Pulling my hair stage.
About to quit sending out my book to iTunes.
I would submit a screenshot but this message system cannot post.

My iBooks Author quits before I can select "Provide iBooks Author Feedback", so I submitted a support ticket. The first book I created went just fine in November. The second book was fine until the final preview and it crashed. I moved the file to an iMac Desktop and worked from there. But that is not always convenient. What's up with the crashing? Everything s up to date on my MacBook Air.

  • IBooks Author crashes every two minutes. What's going on?

iBooks author crashes literally every few minutes, and the error message reads "iBooks author failed while using the iBooks Author plug-in. Click here to re-open".
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app itself. I'm running the latest release of Mavericks.

iBooks Author was updated to 2.1.2 today... download and update to see if the bug fixes solve your problem, if not report back here please.

  • I need an email address for iBooks Author support. Does anyone out there have that info?

I am unable to raise anyone at Apple regarding support for the iBooks Author App. Does anyone know of an email address or telephone number for that support group.Thank you

Apple does not provide application support via email. You can call the standard Apple technical support lines for assistance, though I don't know how expert the technicians will be in that particular application, and you'll quite probably have to pay for the support call.
You might try posting your issue/question in the iBooks Author forum here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/books/ibooks_author
I suspect you'll be more likely to get an answer there than you will by calling Apple.
    Regards.

  • Browse in iBooks does not work when tapping on an author nothing appears, does anyone else have this problem?

Browse in iBooks on my iPad does not work. When tapping on the author name nothing appears. Is anyone else having this problem?

it does not show up in photostream in iphoto on my imac. Everything is activated and turned on.
Just in case, on your iMac, open System Preferences > iCloud
Make sure Photo Stream is switched to on.
If it was already on, switch that off. Restart your iMac, restart your iPhone.
See if photos sync between the iMac and iPhone.

  • IBooks Author crashing SFWordProcessing

After producing about 80 pages and following the last Mountain Lion update (now using OSX 10.8.2) I can no longer open iBooks Author without it crashing, making my work inaccessible. The error message begins:
    Process:         iBooks Author [3787]

Suggesting that the fault lies with SFWordProcessing.framework.  I have tried the solution suggested by Apple for fixing a similar problem that occurred with iWeb, i.e., restarting in safe mode and then restarting again, but that has no effect whatsoever.  Every time it crashes a report is sent to Apple but, as others have noticed, Apple never seems to respond to these crash reports or to messages in these forums, so has anyone else had this same problem and managed to resolve it?
I'm thinking that the best thing I can do is to give up on iBooks Author and move to preparing an html file for Kindle publishing.

I felt the same way. I checked each item and found I entered too many categories and put two author and was repetitive
My last issue is obtaining ISBN numbers...how I get them.

  • IBooks Author crashes every 30 seconds: h264 encoder?

I am using iBooks Author 2.1.1 on Mavericks.
The program is crashing like every 30 seconds for no apparent reason (specific actions, that is). I cannot see the <edited by host> problem reporter anymore  . This is what it offers all the time stating some problem with the h264 encoder framework (please see attached image below). A reinstallation has not helped so far. What can I do here?
    Many thanks in advance,

Did you already try removing iBA's preference plist as part of your troubleshooting process?
I don't think that plugin is the culprit ...perhaps more like an incidental victim in this example.
However, as this is a predicable issue, you may want to get Apple Support on the phone and let them take a look.

  • IBooks Author crashes due to Ligatures being checked

I'm working in iBooks author.  I haven't created any more than a few words of content.  I'm using this theme:
Things go along fine.  I type a bit.
    Observe the following default settings:
So, I go about my business.  As soon as I get to a word that contains the letters "fl" as in flat or flashy, the program immediately crashes as soon as I press the "l" key.
I have tried deleting the .plist files that are described in similar threads.
I suspect it has something to do with the typesetting.  Because if you uncheck "use ligatures" the program no longer crashes when you try to type "flat"
It also doesn't appear to happen in other themes, though, I only tried a few.
Any thoughts on how to fix this (besides, the obvious, turning off ligatures)?

Sounds like it could be a bad font.  Try using a different one.

  • IBooks Author crashes when I add video.

Every time I try to add a video file to iBooks Author it crashes. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the software as well using different video formats. It does not seem to matter, the program still crashes. Any suggestions?

I spoke with Joseph. He sent me to a site that allowed him to see my screen. Then, after the crash log appeared, we both went over it. That's when we found the error file that allowed us to locate the problem in my library cache.
I did everything, including export as .m4v, mp4, mov or any other type. Now, whatever file format I use, iBooks Author automatically optimizes the video.
Before I fixed the problem, it would optimize my video, but any keynotes or other items in my book would not longer work. Once I removed the corrupted file all was good.
    Hope that helps.

  • IBooks Author Crashing

I have almost completed an iBook using iBooks Author.  However in the final stages it keeps crashing.  It is quite a big file - around 1.5 GB and full of multimedia.  Any ideas on how to overcome this issue.  Many thanks.

    Hello:
I see your response.  I am having the same issue.  Started writing a book using this app on my IPAD several weeks ago, did it in chapters, had no images or diagrams, just words.  I tried to go into it and work on it last week, it opens, and I see my book and then it immediately crashes.  If I can't even get it to stay open, what do I do?  I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

  • Vanishing Point Filter Always Crashes Photoshop CS5 - Anyone else have this problem?

19 out of 20 times I use the vanishing point filter in PS CS5, it ends up crashing the program. This usually happens when I try to adjust the angle of a new plane. Does anyone else have this problem? I need to use this feature for my job. Are there any alternative filters or programs I could use instead, or could I somehow fix the plugin?

Someone reported this way back around when PS CS5 was first released I think.  I don't find the thread but as I recall the advice at the time was to update the display driver on the system...  Visit the web site of the maker of your video card (e.g. nvidia.com or ATI.com) and download/install the latest driver release that matches your hardware and operating system.

  • IBooks author crashes on start

    Hi,
Since upgrading to Mavericks my iBooks Author has ceased to load. So I have stopped using it.
Today I was notified that iBooks had auto-upgraded and I wondered if my problem had been fixed.
    Alas, no.
I have given up on this programme. I was using it to produce training materials. Now I can't. Shame. And no web search has turned up any solution. This is my last attempt at getting help.
System details: iMac, OSX (10.9.3), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 512MB

Someone recently responded to my issue and asked me to run some diagnostics.
Unfortunately the email sent went missing.
If you can resend the email I'll be careful not to lose it this time!

  • IBooks Author crashing before any editing

Installed 2.1.3 with updated Mavericks 10.9.4, on a 2 week old iMac 27", 3.2 GHz i5, 8 GB, 1 TB.  Farthest I have been able to get is deleting a background image from template, then it gives me the below error report.  I have been unable to do any text editing, such as chapter title, or book title.  I see no .plist to delete.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times, plus rebooting.  Any other suggestions?

Figured out the issue with some help from Apple Support.  I had 30K plus fonts loaded, and one/some of the fonts were not playing nice.  Reset the Font Book, and no issues now.

  • When importing photos with iBooks Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the imported photo?

When importing photos with the iBooks Author Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the corresponding imported photo? I have 4,800 stills to import and can't imagine it's necessary to copy and paste the description for each.

As always, feel free to use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item for features you'd like added in the future, etc.

As for AS, I'm not sure anyone has sniffed iBA's dictionary yet...google is you friend for hot prospects, I'm sure

  • Enhanced book for iPad, built on iBooks Author

    Hi all
I am sorry if these are similar questions to ones asked before, but I wondered if things might be different since they were last asked.
I have delivered an enhanced book built for iPad and it is currently in the review status, not in 51 stores. My questions (of which I have heard many myths about):
    1) As it's an enhanced book (created on iBooks Author), there are lots of videos, galleries etc which make the publication about 1 gig. I have heard that although there is a 2 gig limit, some authors have had responses from Apple saying that it should be kept to max 200mb and therefore rejected. True or false do you reckon?
    2) Mine is a travel guide about a specific area of Spain and it is all about solutions to the traveller. Therefore as well as lots of text, there is a Useful Links section that links to companies websites  such as car hire  - their logos are next to the URL's in my book. Do you think Apple will be ok with their logos visible and external web links? It is simple to remove it if necessary but in truth it is a resource for my readers.
    3) I have heard varying reports of 3 hours to 55 days for the review process to be complete. Does anybody know if it is longer for an enhanced book due to the complexitied of its build?
    4) I have heard reports that if it fails, Apple will tell you how to rectify it. Is this true and is it easy to resubmit?
    5) I have also heard reports of Apple simply rejecting without explanation. That would be so painful. I have spent 6 months and a lot of investment. I would be devestated. is this true?
    6) Any other advice? It has been in review for 3 days only so far. Any ideas on current wait time for enhanced books built for ipad, created on iBooks Author?
It's an anxious time isn't it?!
    Thanks.

    1. Max size is 3 GB, but   take  into acount you want  updates at some stage and need to allow "space"
    2. URLs  are usually excepted IF they are not competitors of Apple iBooks Store - ie Amazon. Any logo is usually copyrighted by the  company.  Any potential copyright infringements  could be rejected by th review team.
    3. Time taken in Review depends how busy they are  without regard to your  content.
    4.  If your book fails the review,  you will be issued a ticket - A recent email advised changed to the ticketing procedures.
    Ticket Catalog Report
The Catalog Reports module on iTunes Connect now contains a Ticket Catalog Report. The report contains details for all tickets that have been assigned to your iTunes Connect account.
    iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines Update
The iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines include important information to help you avoid common errors when publishing on the iBooks Store. The new version of the guidelines includes updated information for copyrighted terms, supported languages, series metadata, What's New descriptions, book assets files, and more.
Download the updated iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines from the Deliver Your Content module on iTunes Connect.
    5.  The review team will pass or fail your book,  fail is dealt with above. Pass... means its in the store. All you need to  do is keep checking status in iTC.
    6. is the same asnwer as 3.    You wait and Check in iTC to monitor if your book  is passed or ticketed.
Other advice,  open iTC  >  Deliver your Content >  on the top right are a number of PDF, download and  read  study them. Below them is a video.. take time to  view the video and take notes.
The above extracts are from an email  from iBooks, the links should still work, if not  they are basically to open your iTunes Connect - Deliver your content section.
Last  bit of advice, check everything  at least twice before uploading to the store. Remember issues with copyright. Dont use anything just  because its online. Dont copy text or images from other  websites and give credits/links to any that are subject to Common Licence conditions... and finally.. be patient, time , tide and Apple move at their own speed.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because OS X Lion is a paid upgrade. The most recent OS X version is Mountain Lion, so I recommend you to upgrade to this version.
First, make sure that your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If your Mac is supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, you can make a backup of your files, so you won't lose them if the upgrade fails.
When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade OS X. It will upgrade OS X to 10.8.2, so you will be able to install iBooks Author and a lot of apps from the App Store. Check if your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
