IBooks Author - How do I delete drafts I no longer want?

Trying different things in IBooks Author, I ended up with four versions of the same book (four files). Each has its own template, etc. I have selected the version I want to keep. How do I delete the three versions that I do not want?

You can delete those in the Finder.

No on the book title, no problem there.
The issue is: my book pages appear as on white paper, no background that resembles a open book and also no option to change fonts. The book was created in iBooks author, there was a problem going with the "Publish" menu route so I was instructed my Apple to "export" the file and submit that. I think that's the problem after reading that iBooks author is a hybrid epub file.

On the iPod touch and hold any app on the scree until all the apps start to wiggle. Then tap the circled minus sign by the app you want to delete. The apps that came with the iPod can't be deleted. To go back to normal screen, press the Home button.

Go to the photo album, tap select, tap the photos you no longer want and then tap the waste basket.

In ibooks author how to make an existing page start a new section

I have imported a Pages document into ibook authors (version 2.1.1 in OS 10.9.1) using the Classic Text Template. The original Pages document was basically a book, with title and table of contents and forward and several sections. Now everything is one huge unit. During the import I can choose a layout, but only a chapter or a section. Then all of the document is regarded as having that layout -- every page is regarded as having the section layout, for example, though only the first page has the smaller text area and the large text as a header. I can see all the layout possibilities in the Layouts sidebar, and they include section and forward and 1 column. When I hover the cursor over a particular page the book sidebar I see the little triangle that has been mentioned, and it offers options for changing layout, but it does not allow me to make that page a new section or a forward. I can only make the page 2 column or put a sidebar on it. I cannot see how I can import the book and be able to create chapters and sections with ibooks author. I can insert a new section layout, or a new page, but I do not see how to to change a page, after it is imported and is considered to be the text of a chapter or section, into the start of a new chapter or section. I do not find anything in the inspector or on the menubar or in the help center that makes this change. The "add a chapter title" does not change the layout to make the text box smaller, as it should for a layout. Is it actually possible to convert a Pages book into an ibook authors book, or must I create the blank chapters and sections in ibook authors and then cut and paste each section from Pages?

The advice given for iBA, is to preplan your book. Modify an exsiting template as your layout suits you, to present a quality book to your readers.
iBooks Author is really more "app" than a book maker like inDesign or even Pages, - and users should really get to know how to use it before starting out on a serious project.
The insert options are clear - you can insert a Chapter from MS Word or Pages in iBA a "chapter" is a distinct "standalone" part of a book which can include sections and pages as required. Sections can be moved up or down within their chapter or can be copied from one chapter to another. The pages in any chapter are static and the only way to change content location is copy and paste.
From your post, its seems you decided to create you book using Pages and in one chapter expecting iBA to reformat it.
I would suggest a solution is to count your chapters and add that number into an iBA new book, then copy your Pages chapters. I would guess that the whole process would take less than 30 minutes.
Apple recieves feedback and suggestions for improvements, however the last update made very few changes to the application and none of those seen in many posts - such as being able to move pages. This indicates that Apple at least, are satisfied that the version is functional enough for how Apple see books being made for its store. 12 months ago this forum was taking hundreds of posts per day asking advice, its now a trickle- which I take to be in indicator that as a group, iBA users have taught themselves how to use the application and its many options and third party add on's. iBA is more suited to the interactive side of publications as Apple intended, creating a mainly text only "novel" seems to be considered by Apple as the easy part!

IBooks Author: How do you get the inset margins applied to the caption text of gallery widgets to preview correctly on an iPad?

Currently the inset margins I set for caption text in the gallery widget resets to zero when previewed on different iPads. These are galleries with different images and the captions are set to “individual caption per image” in the interaction panel.
BUT the inset margins will preview correctly if the gallery caption is set to “same caption for all images” in the widget interactions panel. How does one go about fixing this in iBooks Author? Would love to hear others advice or suggestions or work arounds. Thanks!

So I opened the files in TextWrangler to search for a word I know I highlighted in a particular book. That helped me identify the correct file for the book I am concerned with. I did a Time Machine restore of the file and got my notes back the way they were.

The arrows don't show up on the iPad, they are only to aid navigation within iBA. You can use boxes in the background to frame your galleries (as the background is off). I believe it's also possible to change the colour of the dots beneath the gallery too, although I forget how to do that right now.
About Apple's rigid UX – I agree that it can be frustrating. Apple intended iBA to be used by everyone, and the sort of design options and customisability we might want may confuse the less experienced user. Apple also wanted the UI for every book to be the same – from the point of view of the new user, once you've used one iBA ebook (or iBook, I'm not sure what Apple want us to call it), you can use them all. Otherwise end users would to get used to a slightly different UI on each book, which kind of works against the idea that ideally UI should be intuitive enough to be invisible. I can see the point in that. I have created a 'How to use' section in every iBA file I've made. It get's old quickly.
Oh, and (you probably know this, but…) you can choose your own custom icon for audio. It's limited, as it's only a placeholder image that allows you to play an audio file, there's no ability to pause the audio or stop it once you choose the view as thumbnail choice. Something I'd like to see changed.

When creating a book in iBooks Author, how do I get the book pages to flip instead of scroll?

I'm interested in knowing if there's a way to get iBooks pages to flip instead of scroll when creating then in iBooks Author. I think having the image of turning a page, instead of it just scrolling, is appealing to the reader, but I don't see how to do this in the iBooks Author program. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

It is a silly feature, but Apple would be remiss if they did not offer it.
Go to the App Store someday and read the reviews of iBooks.There is an incredible amount of bellyaching because the new (iOS 7) graphics don't look as touchy-feely as the iOS 6 graphics. A lot of people want to feel like they are holding a piece of tree in their hands when they read eBooks. Doesn't compute for me, but as an author, I don't want Apple to kick these people in the shins, either.
As for the processing hit...uhm...unless you happen to be rendering 3D animations at the time, it probably isn't going to ruin your chip's day.

Ibooks author how to fix missing file error message

I have cut and pasted many jpg images into my iBook in iBooks Author. All the pictures appear to be displayed but whenever I open the iba file I get many error messages saying that many of the files are missing. How do I diagnose and fix this issue? Any ideas on how to debug or fix this would be appreciated.

Yosemite is not supported for Encore, but neither was Mavericks (even though it is on the list, I don't think it is truly "supported," and there were issues).
Many of the issues in Mavericks and Yosemite appeared to be permissions. Most Adobe apps need read/write access, and those were not the defaults for the OS.
Some Mavericks users reported the following fixes their problems - I eventually assumed that somewhere in the process, it was fixing permissions. But perhaps it does more:

2 machines authorised to play music. How do I delete one I no longer own?

I have been into iTunes iTMS Apple Account Information & noticed 2 machines are authorized to play music with this account. How do I delete the one I no longer own?

Usually when I complain to the support folks I can get them to de-authorize all of my machines, then I authorize the one(s) I want. This doesn't happen often, last time was after I scrubbed a broken machine and returned it. They always scold me, tell me how bad I've been, then do the job. It should be something we can just do from our account at the store but for some reason they need to make a big deal of it.

IBook Author - How to present translations?

I'm converting an old (out-of-copyright) book to an iBook. The book has long Latin passages.
I want my version to have the English translations to make it more accessible. How should I present the translated passages? I tried making glossary items out of the passages, but you (apparently) can't make a glossary term out of more than a few words. The other option is to present them inline, but this makes things
unnecessarily long. I'd prefer a widget or HTML way of making the translation either 1) appear in place of the original text with a user prompt; or 2) mimic the functionality of the glossary to make the translation easily accessible.

You could put the English into the book content and the translation in a pop over widget.
That way the book is readable and those wishing to look at the Latin... click the pop over trigger image and up pops the latin text. You can set the height and width if its a short passage or set the width and let the text scroll for longer passage.
This way the reader has choice and its an easy to use option.

IBook Author: how to print from inside a book?

I would like to include an image in the book for printing, but can't think on how to solve this from inside IBA. The closest think is to include a thrumbnail of the image with a hiperlink to an external website where the reader can download the full size image and print it from their device. Any other ideas? Something self-contained?

Now it does print a small portion of invisible portion, but the view of limited to a single page. I observed the contentHeight property of the viewport and it is 6097. But the printout is limited to a single page. I also tried giving a rectangle as the second parameter for the addPage method of printJob giving the height of viewPort.contentHeight but of no use.
How are you suggesting to create a new view of viewport outside the scroller ? Can you please paste some code for reference for better understanding of your suggestion?
