IBooks author - publishing books - different countries

Is it possible to publish a book to the US and for example Netherlands (or other EU country) store? Or is all content published to the ibooks store accessable throughout the univers :-)

I think there are only 51 countries with stores and you choose which ones you want your book to appear in when you send it to Apple

  • How to make hard cover paper book from iBooks author digital book

Someone suggested I make a few hard cover books from my iBooks Author published digital book. How would you go about doing this?
What file should I should I use, (PDF, etc)? What printer would do this best (iPhoto publishing, etc)?
Hoping it will be easy to use the format of iBooks Author so that I won't have to make changes.
    Many thanks for your help.

You can print directly from iBA or you can generate a PDF from the print menu and use that. Be sure to test layouts, orientation, etc. Of course certain content won't be output to a printer.
There are hundreds of printers to choose from - shop your budget.

  • IBook Author - Publishing a book - Rejection from Apple

    Good morning,
I am trying to publish a book on iBooks using iBook Author. My submission has been rejected 3 times already. Not an easy ride. Sometime the explanation for rejection is quite generic and does not give much details about what is really wrong.
For instance I was told the widget did not work etc...whereas they are working perfectly when I preview my book in iTune Author using the preview function.
So I have removed all the widgets and resubmitted the book without widgets. However Apple says again that the widgets are not working. I am wondering if they have realised that the book no longer contains any widget.
The last ticket says: All books must contain the full and complete text and must not be missing chapters, referenced indices, footnotes, or other content
But again, when I browse through the book on iBook Authors preview, all chapters, section etc...are correct.
I am wondering whether this has to do with a set up in the "iBook Author Inspector fist tab (on the left hand side with the iBook icon). This tab shows "Document and TOC - Table of Content". Is there something I need to do in there ?
    Thanks,
    P0mme

Preview is not reliable.  Instead you should export your book to .ibooks format and transfer that to your device and open it using the ibooks app.

  • IBooks Author, one book multiple languages!

    Hey,
I am writing a book in iBooks author that will eventually be published in the US, Europe and Canada. It is a technical publication and while the content is identical regardless of where you are reading the book I want to be able to publish different versions to take account of regional spelling differences (Tire/Tyre, airplane/aeroplane, harbor/harbour, etc).
What I want to do is to write the book in US English, make a copy and then be able to change the books entire language to Candadian or British English in such a way that a spellcheck will correct the words that are spelt differently in the different countries.
The problem I see is that in the main document settings the language list only contains English and not the specific types of English I am looking for and changing the language text in every box doesnt seem to make the spellchecker work.
    Any ideas??

What settings are those?  The Inspector has them all
In any case, I don't think you do what you want without human editing.  The OS X spellcheckers are not good enough.

  • How can I share iBooks authored by me using iBook Author on 2 different iPads synced to two different computors? Both iPads have different iTunes accounts.

I am in the process of authoring an eBook using iBook Author.  The project is a work in progress and I want to share the draft with other collegues.  We each have our own iPads synced with other computers and we have different iTunes acounts.  I attempted to preview the book on the new iPad, but the iPad did not come up in the available device window.

  • IBooks Author (Publisher) for IPad?

Is there a way to publish books to the iBook store via iPad?  Is there a compatible app for iBooks Author (which can only be gotten if you have a Mac)?

Not directly, you would have to use an Aggregator like Smashwords.  What format you would need to produce depends on what is accepted by the aggregator.  If you want to create .epub format, search the app store for "epub" and you should find some apps.

  • IBooks Author - 'Your book couldn't be exported.'

After working on a project on iBooks Author for my medical school I finally try and export it to an iBooks file and I get the warning message:
'Your book couldn’t be exported. Verify that your destination disk isn’t full and that you have permission to write to it, then try again.'
I then try to export it to pdf and the file is empty, it is also unable to be previewed anymore, does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
I have 12GB of space left on my hard drive and it is my laptop so the permissions should be fine.
    Thanks in advance

Your computer but....are  you working on a network at the school or in your home with  your own  net connection?
Networks have exclusions set  by the IT department to prevent misuse.
A book exported to PDF , should  show teh  book content , albeit, slighty different to what your see in iBA or iBooks when previewed.  Again, it  if you are on a network, there may be issues.
Run a text with a default template saved from iBA and see what the result  is.

  • Ibooks author publishing problems....

i can't upload my new ebook created by ibooks author. I tried three times for hours and hours (10 hours...) but it still appears "authentcating with itunes store"... the books is about 85 Mb so i can't really understand. it should be easier.
    can you help me?
    Alessandro

There are various other posts on this issue..  a recent one  was found to be the result a slow connection speed in  an African country "dial up"  rather than a broadband connection. After a  faster connection was found... the  book uploaded without issue.
Other have had problems with video formatting - even though the  auto optomisng  was carried out in iBA.
Are you sure your book  complies with the Asset guide and  everything is OK?

Interesting idea, but I think it's mainly of interest to people who lose or forget to save their project file or it gets corrupted and they don't want to have to start all over again.   Another app with a similar issue is the (now discontinued) iWeb, and iMovie probably works the same way.  I would agree it is very unlikely Apple would change this behavior.

  • I am a teacher and want to distribute a textbook I created using iBooks Author through Ibooks. We are not 1 to 1 and students share devices on a cart. Can I publish and distribute the book if it is used by multiple students?

Title says it. I created a textbook using Ibooks Author and want to load it on my class set of 30 iPads that are used by 5 different groups of students throughout the day. It is not a 1 to 1 device. Is there a problem with doing this as the Apple ID would be a generic that downloads the content many times on each iPad for my students?

The two processes are so unalike that you need to bone up on what they involve before answering, I think...you can't just shrug and expect specific help, sorry.

Distribution isn't automatically like iOS apps, where the store is involved by default.
You are free to put your .ibook file on a school server/your own server, and anyone can download for free and use it, independent of any Apple ID and the app store. If you want to restrict to your school/students, put it behind a login.
You can put it in the store as a free download and any Apple ID can download and use via any iTunes Account. If you sell via the store, each download/purchase is tied to the Apple ID used to facilitate that transaction. This is not a requirement.
Again, you need to become more familiar with the distribution process and not worry so much about the Apple ID scheme involved at the moment so you can make an informed decision, I think

  • Are any iBooks Author books coming out?

We all hear about the seemingly difficult process of getting an iBooks Author book through Apple's gates. It would be nice to see what is emerging as finally published books. We've seen a few mentioned here but where are the new titles coming out this week? Are free books arriving faster than paid books? I've scanned the new releases listed in iTunes and the iBooks Store but see little that resembles an iBooks Author publication, certainly few showcasing screenshots and enhanced features.
I've been waiting for Maria Langer's new 'enhanced' book on iBooks Author but saw this disheartening paragraph on here blog:
April 7, 2012 Update: One of the two tickets on my book has disappeared, but the other remains. Despite several attempts to contact Apple, it’s still unclear whether they realize that I have resolved this ticket. I keep getting canned responses that do not indicate whether they are following up on my problem. It seems to me as if they’re just sending out a response without even looking up the situation. I’m frustrated beyond belief at this point and angry about potential lost sales. And there’s no one at Apple who I can contact to get a definitive answer. Clearly, the iBooks Author publishing experience is broken and Apple is uninterested in fixing it.
I'm hoping for some good news from this Forum.

Is it possible that there are a good many really crappy books being submitted via IBA and they are wading thru them?
It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that a large proporption of books is of poor quality, with spelling, grammar, editing, typography, and layout problems. Having worked as both an editor and author on and off for many years, I know first-hand that, what some people consider quality writing in fact isn't…
A big danger with any publishing program or word processor is that, even though the program is capable of producing professional output, the professional output doesn't come from the tool, but the author. I still need to know about typography, about design (partially taken care of by IBA with its templates), about style and grammar, about presenting material with proper logical flow, etc…
Just because I have tool doesn't mean that I can produce publishable material. That's where the whole process is flawed, in my opinion. Publishers normally provide services to authors that ensure some level of quality, such as copy editing, proof reading, layout design, and so on. With the iBookstore process, none of these services are provided by Apple, who merely acts in a distributor role. Many authors are not capable of doing all the things that publishers traditionally do, so a big chunk of what makes a book a good book has gone missing. Traditional publishers actually do add value for their share of the revenue.
    Sputnik Slim wrote:
These "long" waits people are complaining of should be encouraging that you are submitting your books to an entity that is exercising quality control rather than just publishing them all, like a blog... I wonder what the rejection rate is for IBA? I can't imagine Apple would fill their bookstore with poorly edited books.
We can only speculate what the reasons for the long wait are. Could be under-resourcing by Apple, could be that they are swamped, could be a combination of both.
It is striking though that submissions to the Appstore seem to go through so much quicker even though, arguably, applications are harder to test than books. As other people here have reported, they get a book as an app improved within a week, whereas no such thing seems currently possible with an eBook. Either apps are not reviewed as thoroughly as books, or the app review process is much better resourced.

No way to know what the rejection rate is, unless Apple decide to publish that (which I doubt the will). Having a bookstore full of junk or poorly written material is certainly not in Apple's interest. On the other hand, neither is having an appstore full of buggy and poorly written applications.
I think an initial wait time of four weeks would be tolerable for new submissions, if only the process were streamlined more. For example, telling people that something is wrong with their book without providing the detail needed for them to fix the problem is truly useless: it wastes the author's time as much as Apple's. And, once minor fixes are made, having the book go back to the end of the queue is simply bad process.

  • Authoreware Book into ibooks author

I am in the process of converting my book which was made in authorware to ibooks author. I need some info to be given to the graphic artist for layout, images and 3d animation work.
    1. What should be the size and resolution for the layout (for cover page, content page)
    2. What should be the format of images and maximum size of the images
    3. What should be the format of 3D animation and 2D animation.
    4. Is there any other information required other than the above mentioned?
From where can I get all the info.
Thanks a lot for your help.

I am using 3D graphics for my book too. I am almost finished and I might as well share some of my discoveries using iBooks Author.
    1. So far I have read that you should make your images larger than the ratio of the ipad. Since the iPad 3 has a retina display (2048x1536) render images at this resolution, since iPad 2 will downsize it anyway. The cover image is 600x800. Since no one can actually zoom in on this image, it doesn't have to be HD like the other pages. (If you see a real ibook, it shows the cover for about 2 seconds and then opens the book).
    2. I have read that JPG is the best image file to use since you can reduce the file size and keep the resolution while PNG you can't.
    3. WIth the 3D widget, I think .OBJ is the file you can use.
    4. All you need is iBooks author, assuming you have updated your mac to 10.7.2. You must have MAC OSX lion, ibooks author and download iTunes Producer (an app to send your book to itunes) iBooks 2 reader app and an ipad with iOS 5.1. Assuming you are going to make an interactibe book, you may need iWorks 09 to make Keynote stuff to add it. You will need an audio editor and a ePub compatible text editor to edit the code (XML) to add read aloud features. (Assuming you don't know what the next steps are, you will need an ISBN number first soon after you finished the book, second you need your tax id to enter into itunes account, bank account, and then you can submit book. I heard it takes from 2 weeks to 2 months to find out if it has been accepted or rejected. It can be rejected by simply having the word "iBooks" in your text, as an example).
Hope this helps, this is an overview of everything you will need to go from ibook author to published ibook. Here is another tip, you won't get much info on the deeper parts of ibooks author. You will have to learn them yourself or talk to someone who has already finished an ibook and get tips from many sources. No one source will have all the info you need, yet.
