Ibooks author table of contents

K.T. the iBOOK is coming along, however the Table of Contents is a tad off.
It shows sections as 1.1 and 1.2. See screen shot. Ideally I would like TOC to be formatted as: Ch1, section 1, section 2, etc.
Thanks for your help.

K T - Thanks for your quick reply. I meant to get back to you sooner but have been working on this iBook.
I figured out the TOC. I am getting very close and figuring things out (trying to at least). The sections are still off. I changed the layout to make "Section 2" and "3" but I dont think that is correct. I touch one and the other is affected. I have included screen shots.
For section 1 you can see that the background color is off also.
Thanks again for all your help!

  • IBooks Author table of contents does recognize paragraph styles

    The video
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2p08-NmqfQ
shows that using iBooks Author  I should be able to have text that is formatted with specific Paragraph Styles show automatically in the Table of Contents. But for me that does not work.  My version of ibooksAuthor is version 2.1.1 ( the latest) , under OS 10.9.1 (the latest) on an iMac.
The video shows the Inspector for TOC as a separate window and shows explicitly, under Sections, the items Copyright, Dedication, Foreword, Section and Section Text. It also has two Paragraph styles listed, Heading 1 and Heading 2.
This set of TOC entries is  available for me with templates from Landscape with Portrait but NOT with templates of Portrait. The templates available for Portrait do not  list, in the TOC Inspector, Heading 1 or Heading 2.
Furthermore, the Portrait templates do NOT allow me to add any Paragraph style to the list (the control for adding Paragraph Styles to the list is grayed out), although the Landscape templates DO allow me to add any Paragraph style.
However, when, with a Landscape template (e.g. Basic) I format text as one of the paragraph styles Header 1, Header 2, Chapter, Section, it does NOT automatically show up in the TOC, though if I add a new section it does automatically show up. The TOC only lists Chapter and Section if these have been added from the menu bar.
When I use a Portrait template  (e.g. Basic or any other) and format text as one of the Paragraph Styles Chapter or Section that  text does not show up in the TOC. And the control for adding Paragraph Styles to the list is grayed out: I cannot add Header 1 or Header 2. The TOC only lists Chapter and Section if these have been added from the menu bar.
No matter what template I use, if I assign a paragraph style to some text, it does not show up in the TOC. And with Portrait templates, which is what I want to use,  I cannot adde any paragraph styles to the TOC Inspector in Portrait templates.

Each book comes with a table of contents that is updated automatically. You can view the table of contents at any time by selecting Table of Contents in the sidebar. The table of contents includes a default set of items, but you can change which items appear. A table of contents can include:
Chapter and section titles: All chapter and section titles are included in the table of contents by default. If you remove a section from the table of contents, all other sections that use the same layout are removed as well.
Text that uses specified paragraph styles: By default, the table of contents includes all paragraphs in the book that use the Heading 1 and Heading 2 style, but you can include whichever styles you like. Paragraph styles appear in the table of contents only in portrait orientation. See Format text using styles.
The way the table of contents looks depends on the current page orientation. In landscape orientation (shown below), each chapter has its own contents page, with navigation buttons at the bottom. In portrait orientation, the entire book’s table of contents is visible as an expandable list.
Add or remove items in the table of contents
If the Document inspector isn’t open, click Inspector in the toolbar and click the Document Inspector button.
    Click the TOC button.
Do either or both of the following:
To add an item: Click the Add pop-up menu , choose Add Paragraph Style, and choose an option from the submenu.
To remove an item: Select the item you want to remove and click the Delete button .

  • IBooks Author table of contennts

Is it possible to add a different image on each table of contents page?

I have this question too. Somehow, the place holder image has been deleted (is there a way to restore it?) and the image I paste in appears on every chapter.
The puzzle is, I successfully do have one image on one particular chapter, but don't know how I did it; the new image (that appears on every chapter) now obscures it. I don't know how to fix it. I assumed the Format > Advanced > Set to layout has something to do with it, but I don't see a checkmark after I select it.
Any help with specific instructions would be so appreciated. The book is almost done!!

  • Pages 5.5 table of contents not showing after formatting to ePub

Im currently trying to format my pages version 5.5 document to ePub. My goal is to use the created document in iBooks. I have downloaded the ePub best practices template from the relevant apple help pages and followed the guidelines. However when opening the document as an ePub file via iBooks the table of contents is non existent. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

All the documentation I have read for created EPUB are to export XHTML, rather than DTBook. I'm not sure if it follows the same rules as EPUB for XHTML.
Assuming it does, you need to do two things: (1) Create a TOC Style (not just a Table of Contents) in the Layout menu. (2) When in the Export EPUB dialog > Contents panel, specify the TOC Style you created.
In an "normal" EPUB 2.01, that would do two things: It would create a navigational TOC shown in every EPUB reader, and it would leave the TOC you placed on your page as an internal TOC.

I created a book in iBooks Author using the Photo Book template. When I rotate to portrait orientation, the photo or widget disappears and a table of contents appears with only the interactive media showing.

Thanx for the prompt response, KT. I have indeed seen that thread, only just after I posted the question.
I have spent hours on the phone with what I now know is a call center in Texas on this question.
I think Apple could be a little more "hands on" with iBooks Author users, and it should also be pointed out that landscape photos will not display in portrait mode.
In my case, I used gallery widgets to display vertical photos, since they look better in portrait mode.
But instead of simply rotating, the page disappears and a TOC of interactive media appears. The gallery behaves as expected when tapped. This is not what I expected, but since the gallery works, I can live with it.
Right now I have "tickets" telling me to "fix" this "problem or to disable portrait mode.
I don't want to disable portrait mode.
Will Apple accept the books if I tell them this is not an "error?"

  • How to make table of contents in IBooks Author?

I am having trouble with the Table of Contents in IBooks Author, I have completed successfully all the steps and pages,
photos and widgets, but have been stuck on the Table of Contents for months.  I've Googled and searched for help,
but either don't understand or it doesn't apply to my book.  I am trying to publish a Children's Book which really doesn't need
the Table of Contents, but apparently they won't publish without one.
Please advise if you have an answer for this frustrating problem,
    thank you!

Crafting a chapter-less book is possible, but a minimum of one section is required.
Remove the chapter label, leave the TOC blank and you'll then have a basic/generic point from which to work with. Use the 'File/Save As Template' menu before modifying further if you want to reuse later, etc.
Keep in mind that the default navigation means at the very least there will be a series of small dots along the bottom of the screen indicating sections, which when tapped will display thumbnails. If your book isn't doing that (landscape), try another template.

  • IBooks Author strips tab stops from Table of Contents

Tab stops that are generated from section names are stripped from published iBooks Author files.   When I click on Table of Contents in iBooks Author, I can see it exactly like it should be.  Please see the screenshot that I have uploaded tabs.jpg.
Please note the Tab stops of the inspector that are in the screenshot.  It shows clearly that I have made a number of tab stops and how it should be displayed. However, please download the following file to see how the tab stops are stripped from the .ibooks file that is created when I publish it:
    http://ishqdesign.com/tabs/
I am in immediate need of a solution for a large book that I am in the process of publishing.  Please advise.
    Thanks,
    J

  • About table of contents on ibooks author

Hello everyone, I am preparing an ibook on ibooks author and I want to custom the table of contents but I don't get to do it. Whenever I paste an item it appears on every single section within the table of contents. I would also like to know, if I paste an image how do I get it to fill the entire slide. Thanks in advance

I'm not 100% sure what you're hoping to do, but if you mean the TOC background, that will look the same for every chapter (what changes is the text and the thumbnails that are generated at the bottom). Whichever colors and graphical treatments you choose when editing the master, that is what you will see throughout the TOC. As you add new chapters, they are automatically added to the TOC and generated on preview / export / publish.
iBA is heavily template based, as the program is geared towards text books even though Apple doesn't market it as exclusively for text books.

  • How to eliminate "back to table of contents" option in iBooks Author?

I am making a book in iBooks Author, and do not want the option of going back to the table of contents to be available on each page. Is there any way to stop this from showing up?

If you don't get an answer here, you might post the question in the iBooks Author discussion here.

  • Can I use iBooks Author to create a collection of PDF's with a table of contents

    Hi all,
I am wainting to collate a number of pdf files into a searchable document with a clickable table of contents.
However I am struggling to find an appropriate option to insert a pdf as a page in a new book.
    Thanks

You cannot use a multi page PDF in a book....although images saved as PDFs Sen to be OK.
SAving a bok as PDF does not carry across the TOC or glossary.
WIth post work using Acrobat or similar should let you create a linked TOC.    Have you tried MS Word?

  • My Table of Contents are showing in my ibooks author, but disappear when I hit preview.  Help!

Everything appears normal until i hir preview, and the Table of Contents are nowhere to be found.  What gives?

There are 11 chapters, with about 7 sections each.  Portrait is disabled.  Now that I think about it, after I checked the box to disable portrait, that could have been when it stopped showing up.  Will it be rejected for not having it?

  • I created some iBooks in iBooks Author, but when uploaded to iPad, cover graphics do not change when opening different books; they remain on same graphic from book to book even though content changes accordingly. Solutions?

I recently created a number of books using iBooks Author. They are all part of a larger project, but due to size issues, individual sections were broken up into separate e-books. Each one of these e-books has different content and different cover graphics to differentiate between sections. Once finished, I exported each of them as iBooks and then uploaded them to my iPad. On the Books screen, all the iBooks show up just fine with the appropriate cover graphic and titles. When I select one to enter, its cover graphic zooms in and then the book opens into the table of contents. However, the second book I open always reverts to the cover graphic from the first book I entered. It will access the right content, but the cover graphic pulls up as the wrong section, which may lead to some confusion (given the manner these books will be distributed). After leaving it alone for a little while, I can usually access another book and have it pull up the correct cover graphic, but when I enter the second book, the same problem resurfaces.
Any thoughts on how to fix or troubleshoot this?

    Update: Solved.
Either creating a new file or saving the old as a template file & renaming it solved my problem.

  • Long tables in iBook author

    Hi there,
I try to insert the table that runs across 20 pages in he Word document. iBook author shows only the table on the first page. I can't access and flow the rest of the table. What am I doing wrong? Retyping of this table in IBA is not the option. Please advise.
    Many thanks,
    JaSok

Retyping may be the best option...seriously.
Inserting any WORD sourced content into an iBA file is an imprecise effort...at best. I'd hazard to say that if you are doing anything wrong, it lies in expecting a painless move from WORD to iBA
You can try to rework on the source side to better improve the results/reduce rework on the target side (this is meant to be a crafted recipe, where the time spent in trial/error is hoped to be less than the rework - means if you have tons of tables to be brought over, and once you get it right, the ROI is all worth it), or you can put all your effort into the target side rework, never looking back, or you can punt.
Punting would include, but not be limited to, good old global clipboard translation between apps with a simple select/copy/paste.
    Good luck in any case.

  • How do I add a table of contents to a PDF document created through iBooks?

I've been working on a iBook for a while for work and it functions great on an iPad. However, when I publish it as a PDF there is no table of contents. Is there a way to have the table of contents displayed automatically for the book? I dont mind if it's just a table of contents list like in a Word document, but the PDF file is very difficult if it's over 800 pages with no table of contents.

    Update on what I did:
So instead of having an automatically generated template, I created a table of contents for each section on the chapter title slide. This table has 3 columns, Section, Topic and Page and then I use that as a reference guide for users who only use the PDF version of the document. There is no way to have interactive reference links in table elements in iBook but it suits the purpose well.
