Library/Application Support/iBooks Author/Templates is not on my computer?
Even using "go to folder" it returns negative??

Many thanks, but what I mean is - Library/Application Support/iBooks Author/Templates is not in this location.
When I entered the name in the GO TO MENU it replied "the folder can't be found" ??
I'm using IBA okay, and just wanted to add some templates, but the folder is not there.??

Can I combine different iBooks Author templates?

Hi there,
I want to create a book that is, at one and the same time, a book of restaurant reviews that includes replies and responses to these reviews, a recipe book and, I don't know, commentary/philosophizing/flights-of-fancy from the chef (who's something of a character).
I want to use some of the very slick iBooks Author templates, but the thing is, I don't want to be restricted to just one template, because my book (for better or worse) will be something of amalgam.
So my question is—can I combine some of these iBooks Author templates? Any other advice re how best to proceed?

Sounds like a plan to me, Malcolm. I have used two image widgets in my simple layout. I have stopped trying to put photos into the text, which are called inline photos. It is much easier to use a image gallery widget which allows for many photos and images to be used. When they are clicked they will expand to the quality of the original image. If you are taking your own photos, they will fill the iPad screen. Each photo can have a very short caption. The other widget I use is called the interactive image widget. It gives you little tags that you can move around to label and explain whatever you want. The interactive widget is for one image only.
I don't see any problem with you using reviews, quotations, etc. That's just text stuff. Your text flows from screen to screen, so you just insert your image widgets into the text and keep on going.
Why don't you try a practice template and get the hang of it? The other thing I have gotten used to is that sections have their own rules. You can insert a section where you want. For chapters, the front two pages are special. The left side wants to have a big font title, some white space and a small text block. That text block does NOT connect to the pages which you add next. These pages all have flowing content. On the right page of the chapter opening, it wants to have one large image, filling the page. It doesn't want anything else. These are format issues. What I do is start with text from the material I have and put it in the first page little text box. You can adjust the size of that text box. Then I continue with the text on the following pages. If you paste it in there, it will automatically add as many pages as are needed. I actually need a three step process as my original text comes from Adobe InDesign on a PC. I copy it into MS Word, and then export it from Word as Rich Text Format (RTF), which is as basic as it gets. RTF has no problem going into iBook. If you are writing directly into Apple Pages it will transfer over to iBook.
I am writing a history book, and have transferred over the first hundred pages into iBook Author, and am adding many copyright free images from Wikipedia. If you click on an image on Wikipedia, it will take you to the image page called Wikimedia Commons. They often offer the image in different resolutions. On my Apple laptop, I right click and place in the iPhoto library. I LOVE iPhoto Library. Your image comes in and you drag it up to the category you have created. The categories collapse into small bands, which you can open with a click. So it is extremely easy to keep track of your images and put them in as many categories as you like. Then from iPhoto, you can drag your image into the iBook image widget.
One thing I would definitely recommend is to attach a second monitor to your laptop. This provides for much more flexibility in working with images and the internet.

Where can I find free iBooks Author templates? I'm trying to create a storybook for kids, is there a listing of such?

When I used the link and clicked on Free there was nothing showing except the loading spinner ....which never ended. Reloaded and tried the Photography link which was OK...
Just tried today and the site is fully functional dont know if it was my machine or what!
I did not try anything free, I get wary of new sites being advertised in targetted forums and such and wanting email address's.
I make my own template, $20 for one template seems expensive to me there are apps in the store offering templates far less expensive, as do Jumsoft and I have no connection with them other buying their set when iBA first came out.
"Templates for iBooks Author" is a free app offerring 10 templates free! their next version offers 20 I think for $10
I think my next project should be a website offering templates a $3 each ! So far I have created 150....

IBooks author : template iBooks 3

Hi all,
My question is quite simple: I just want to know if the new iBooks template 3 (with scrolling, font choice, sharing facebook / twitter ...) was built automatically when the book was published?
In fact, I would check these features before the release, which does not appear with a simple overview of the ipad.

Preview is not reliable for checking such features. Instead you should export your book to the .ibooks format and then transfer it to an iPad and open it in iBooks to check how things are working.

Freeform iBooks Author template?

I'm trying to create a childrens book and have no need for chapters, table of contents, etc. Those elements are really getting in the way and complicating what I'd planned on being a simple book. ibooksIs there a freeform template, preferrably one with the shadown down the middle emulating an open book?

You'd need to make your own split left/right backgrounds that meet in the middle when in landscape to imitate a spine, etc.

IBooks Author Poetry Template

Hi,
Any suggestions for the iBooks Author template to use for a book of poetry.
I'm thinking one page per poem with a graphic beside it.
It would be great if each new poem's title is listed in the table of contents.
Should each chapter be a new poem, or each section?
At the moment I'm using one new chapter for each poem, but end up with a blank page after each chapter front page.
Apple it would be great to have a couple of Poetry templates.

IBooks Author not saving templates

I am not able to save an iBook Author file I am working on (.iba format) to an iBooks Author Template (.ibatemplate) via File > Save as Template. I can go in and change the extention and then see the file in the Template Chooser view, but this seems like an unusual hack AND I get no preview for the template.
Anyone else experienceing this issue.
I am on version 2.1.2 (462) on OSX 10.9.3.

The normal process involves saving so that your creation is saved to 'My Templates'. That assumes you want it to show in the template chooser.
I've never tweaked the file name suffix.

How do I import templates in iBooks Author?

The folder /Library/Application Support/iBooks Author/Templates does not exist.
Even if I make it, it doesn't work.

Same problem
If I Click the Finder icon in the Dock and choose Go > Go to Folder and enter: ~/Library/Application Support/iBooks Author/Templates/My Templates/
I can see a new template listed there, but it does not show when I go to iBA:File:New from Template Chooser.
Here's hoping they sort it out soon!

Can't Save as Template in iBooks Author 2.1.2

I've only just now tried to save as template in this version. This is what it used to do:
Replace the .iba extension with .ibatemplate.
Change to the iBooks Author Templates folder so that you can save there.
Now it doesn't do either of these. When you select File > Save as Template..., it presents the folder where the .iba file has been saved and does not change the extension.
Manually changing the extension and putting it in the templates folder gives it a generic Pages document icon in the Template Chooser. However, it can be opened as a template through this dialog. The title of the document is Untitled, just like it would be if a template were chosen.
Has anyone else seen this?
I have lodged a bug.

Interesting suggestions from both of you.
Arnis, we're putting the cleanup utility on the back burner for the moment, since in our company, we can get in trouble using third-party software. However, it's good to know about this utility and we will use if it we have to. (Occcasionally we are forced to put our careers on the line for issues like this...)
Mike, we created a folder called "PDFSettings" in the 7.2 "fminit" folder and copied over the six joboptions files from 9.0. Rebooted, rePDFed and voila, that worked. (Mind you, we can't say for sure that's what worked, because as I said in my original post, the simple act of rebooting "sometimes works, sometimes not...")
Eventually this problem will go away by itself because eventually we will get rid of 7.2 -- it's only deadline time-crunches that have made us reluctant to jump fully-clothed into 9.0...
I really appreciate the two of you taking your time to offer suggestions and help. I can't imagine life in the FrameMaker world without you!

How do I add captions to photos in a gallery in iBooks Author.

I have successfully added a photo Gallery to an iBooks Author template and have given it a Title but the Caotions option is greyed out. How do I add individual captions to my photos. The Help menu says it can be done but I can't work out how to from the instructions.

How can I use WebGLview in the iBook widget template in iAd producer?

Recently I am trying to use iAd producer to create a iBook Author widget. What I need is to show a 3D .obj file in it. How can I do that? Is WebGL supported in the iBook Author template?

It was noted during an iBooks Author / iAd Producer seminar I attended that iBooks had not enabled WebGL content, so I encourage you to request support from Apple:

Obviously, the presentation is limited to the object and not any of the other interesting things you might be able to do with HTML and a WebGL object.

Creating a youtube widget in iAd Producer for Ibooks Author

Hello,
I am trying to create a widget in iAd Producer to add to my iBooks Author template featuring a youtube video.
I am able to create and save the widget but when I place it into iBooks Author template I get a large gray box with a small black box in the center (the video).
Is there a way to correct this?
How can I eliminate the outer frame?
Any other suggestions on adding a youtube video to iBooks Author?

Are there any tutorials on the basics of using iBook Author?

I am an established author and want to use iBook Author to make some of my op material (where I have secured all rights)to be made available again. I have to adapt the iBook Author templates to accomodate the pages. I need help learning how to do this.

How Do I Create a New Template for iBooks Author?

Apple's provided templates are way too narrow for some of the ideas I want to implement. I do not see any real method for creating a template from scratch. I stripped one of the available templates down to nothing and rebuilt some of the pages and then selected Save As Template... but iBooks Author keeps the original template as the content instead of allowing me to use my own created Chapter, Section, and Pages with the Add Pages.. Button.
How to you create a new template from scratch? I think it is absurd if you can only create a new template from one of the 6 predefined templates.

Be careful on unlocking and deleting stuff, cause this very easily can destroy the layout and your current arrangement

Thanx for the prompt response, KT. I have indeed seen that thread, only just after I posted the question.
I have spent hours on the phone with what I now know is a call center in Texas on this question.
I think Apple could be a little more "hands on" with iBooks Author users, and it should also be pointed out that landscape photos will not display in portrait mode.
In my case, I used gallery widgets to display vertical photos, since they look better in portrait mode.
But instead of simply rotating, the page disappears and a TOC of interactive media appears. The gallery behaves as expected when tapped. This is not what I expected, but since the gallery works, I can live with it.
Right now I have "tickets" telling me to "fix" this "problem or to disable portrait mode.
I don't want to disable portrait mode.
Will Apple accept the books if I tell them this is not an "error?"
