IBooks buggy on my iMac

I received an  iBook as a gift. When I signed in to iBooks it asked for the password for my Apple ID. After I put this in I clicked  on redeem.  Asked for my Apple ID password again. Nothing happened. I clicked redeem again.  It asked for my password once more. This was an endless cycle.  I then redeemed the book on my iPhone and downloaded it without a problem.  I opened iBooks on my iPad and also downloaded it there.  Went back to my iMac (both at the time and also the next day) hoping I could now download it since all devices shared the same Apple ID.  No luck.  In preferences "synch across devices" was checked.  I then also checked "automatic download."  However, if I quit iBooks and restarted it, the automatic download was
now unchecked although synch was still checked. Also, if I closed the app and re-opened it I was asked for my password again.  Since I don't do much reading directly from my computer, this is not a huge problem  However, being obsessive, these kind of bugs really get into my head and are most annoying.  Help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need to replace them unless you had books that weren't downloaded from the iBooks Store. In that case, restore from the backup you made.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • How to view and access files on my iBook G3 from another iMac

**Hello, everybody on this excelent forum. I need to know how to use my Firewire conection, to view and access files in my iBook G3, from another iMac G3, both are OK in working good condition. • How to transfer from Old ibook to new ML iMac

Hello, looking for some help with an installation problem.
I'm in the process of trying to [help my daughter] transfer relevant files from an old (2004?) iBook running 10.5.8 to a new 21" iMac running Mountain Lion (10.8.2). Using ethernet as iBook has firewire but iMac only has Thunderbolt.
Unfortunately the iMac was "admired/played with" a few times before trying to transfer the files so the only option is/was Migration Assistant.
Initially all seemed fine, but just as the processed was almost complete, - the transfer hung and the time to completion increased from seconds to minutes to hours. Ended by manually shut down.
I believe we have three options:
    1) Erase hard drive, do a re-install using Mountain Lion's built in reinstallation facility (We do not have back-up yet)
Then use set-up assistant on first boot-up to transfer files/apps etc.  Have not yet added any data/files so no loss if we erase the HD.
    2) Try Migration assistant  again
    3) I assume most (all?) of the old apps will not run on the new iMac, so there is no point in transfering them.
Instead I wonder about just copying over the important files, ie Address book files, Safari/iTunes/ etc etc
Any advice suggestions would be appreciated

  • Cloning iBook Hard Drive onto iMac - How?

    Hello Again Mac Experts:
You guys have never failed me yet so here's another:
Situation: I want to upgrade my internal hard drive on my iBook and so want to clone the original Hard Drive, OS and files onto my iMac before doing so. I was told "Carbon Copy Cloner" was an easy, solid program to do this operation with and so I downloaded it onto my iMac.
Issue: I have my iBook connected to my iMac via Ethernet cable and can bring up it's hard drive easily via Shareware. No problem there. The problem occurs when I start the Carbon Copy Cloner software. It immediately pops up with a window that reads - "CCC cannot find any local disks located on your system besides the start up disk. Please mount another local disk and try running CCC again" - and I can get no further. I've tried fooling around with different "mounting," rebooting, and such but nothing changes.
Problem: What am I failing to understand or negotiate properly here? Do I need to do this operation via a Fire Wire cable? Am I not mounting something correctly? What gives?!
Lost at sea again. S.O.S. Thanks!
    chaemo
P.S. Truthfully, I would prefer to install the OS for my iMac onto the iBook new hard drive (when I get it installed) and so did a pre-run trial but it said it couldn't install because of "bundling" incapatibility or something. Any thoughts on getting around that one!??
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iBook OS X 10.3.9

Shoot, on the previous, I forgot to click the "Yes, my questions has been answered" button.
Anyway, Dale thanks for your comments and suggestions on this matter for me. Your advice worked! FYI - here's what I previously posted:

Great, I think I'm good now!
Thanks for your help with this, sorry it took so long to respond, I had to purchase a Fire Wire and try a few things before I could figure it out.
As you suspected, I did indeed need to get a Fire Wire to do the cloning (Ethernet is not the proper cable to do it with it turns out). So while I'm at my local Mac store I asked the tech guy about it and he told me the cloning was easy to do simply by using the Mac Disk Utility app and that I didn't need to bother with any outside software to do it. So I tried that but couldn't ever get it to work because it kept indicating that the disk was "too large," and again, I could get no further. So I went back to CCC, got further along this time, but again, ran into the size problem (I'm thinking here, that if my technical computing skills were a bit further refined, either one of these apps should probably work) . Finally, I tried the Superduper software, as you and Dale suggested, and that did the trick!
I now have a cloned copy of my iBook Hard Drive on my iMac. Next step is to get a new hard drive installed on my iBook and then put the clone back into it. Any suggestions on how that is accomplished? Is it just a matter of copying it onto the new hard drive or is there certian procedures with certian protocols involved?? Still riding the clueless train as you can tell!
Thanks again very much for your help with all this, once again you all come through for me! Sincerely,
    chaemo

  • Ibooks crashes on my iMac 100% of the time..

Why does iBooks crash on my iMac 17 intel..
It does not do the same thing on my MacBook Pro ?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • HT202636 iBooks collections on my iMac don't sync the books to my iphone or iPad

iBooks collections on my iMac don't sync the books to my iphone or iPad.
I have both setting on either in iBooks on Mac and both in iPhone and iPad.
The books are synced but not the collections.

Okay I feel kind of dumb now for posting but yeah that did the trick.
I had to disable reminder syncing on my iPhone, delete all reminders and then re-enable remidners and download them again. That immediately caused all reminders created on my Mac to sync properly to my iPhone. Let's hope it doesn't get stuck like that again...

  • Ibook like app for iMac

is there any ibook like application for iMac os x?. if yes then what?

Nope and isn't this quite amazing?  What is Apple thinking? Kindle, Nook, and the others make an app or reader for every platform.  iBooks is for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.  They are missing quite a bit of the market.  I have both PCs and iMacs.  I don't use iBooks because I can't read them on the PC or iMac.  However, I can read all the others on PCs, Macs, my iPad.
By the way Apple, I dumped my iPhone last year for a high end Android phone.  I now also don't use iTunes that much anymore either.  I suggest you make iTunes available through Android before you lose that market also.

  • Buggy Graphics on iMAC 21.5" 10.9.4

I currently(acquired it at the beginning of July 2014) own an iMAC 21.5" late 2013 model , having intel iris pro graphics card 2.7GHZ i5, 8GB RAM.
When I log in there is a delay in starting up and then when switching between desktops (I have 5 desktops) I notice the process is not smooth and the graphics are buggy(they seem to be distorted)! As if thats not enough, when scrolling through documents in Preview (7.0) and Safari (7.0.5) the text seem distorted and it really strains the eyes to read them! Also the same for other apps like ibooks(1.0.1).
I have done everything that I have read from various forums about the issues and still no success, until I realised that when I launch AutoCAD 2013, and start work on drawings, since I am a electrical engineering drafts man,  the above problems all miraculously disappear or reduce significantly!
Which gets me wondering if the problem is with the graphics card or with the OS itself?
I would really appreciate some help since this is irritating as I have to open AutoCAD 2013, even when I am not using it for anything!
    Thanks

Well, no one is replying to you so I'll just jump in here, although I'm no expert.
First of all there is this thread elsewhere:  can i use 3dsmax 2015 on a mac via bootcamp
Second, I did run 3DS Max successfully on an iMac but that was several years ago on an older system so I don't know how current hardware and software will interact.
Thirdly, there are a number of threads here about how to install Windows on your iMac. Once you have Windows up and running you then install and run 3DS Max within Windows. To find out if your version of Max and your version of Windows are compatible you have to look at the system requirements for your version of 3DS Max which are available from Autodesk. Any questions about that are probably more suited to a 3DS Max forum.

  • Can't send email from iBook but can from iMac

I have a iMac hardwired to the Internet with Leopard. I also have a Powerbook with Leopard and a iBook with the previous operating system. My hardwired iMac is the only computer that can send email through the my smtp server for work. It is offsite and not supported by me.
I have changed all port settings on the two laptops but no success. I have even synced all of the accounts through .Mac and only the hardwired iMac can send emails. They all are able to received emails.
I am able to select a new smtp server when the Mail program on the laptops tell me it has not been able to connect. I can then send the messages out through gmail, but they come from my Gmail account. This is no good when I am trying to conduct business.
I have also hardwired my iBook to the same network my iMac is connected too (same wire) and the iBook still cannot connect to the selected smtp server (I did turn the airport off).
Any one got any ideas or thoughts?? Can I create a SMTP server on these laptops some how? I was beginning to think it was an Airport communication issue, but after hardwiring the ibook and it still did not work, I am at a loss.

Are you using the Verizon PW or the Google one?
What Port is the Outgoing using?

  • How do I add books from iBooks on my iPad to iBooks on my desktop iMac?

I have down loaded eBooks to my iPad iBooks and I would like to view them in iBooks on my iMac but they won't sync.
Can anyone help me do this.

Instead of syncing (which is from Mac to iPad, not the other way round), you need to Transfer Purchases. It's the same process, control click the iPad in the Sidebar > Transfer Purchases.

  • Can connect w/ iBook, but not new iMac

Just got a new iMac (yay me!). But I can't get it to connect w/ my wireless router. However, my old iBook doesn't have any problem.
I'm trying the same network as the iBook, but it keeps saying it can't connect.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. My iBook which is about a year old, connects to my Belkin router with no problems. Really fast connection, stable etc...
But, the new iMac can't get a connection. In the internet connect box it sees the router, but when selected it connects, and then the signal level drops to nothing and it disconnects.
I have also found that if I turn both airport cards off, and then connect the iMac, the iBook won't connect (same problems, low signal strength and all that). Is there some conlfict between them?
My flatmate had a toshiba and a Macbook which both connected without a problem, and without changing my Ibook's connection.
    This seems strange.
I have assigned each computer an ip address which works ok.
    Any ideas?

  • Upgrade Mac OS on my iBook and compatibility with iMac

    Hello,
I had an iBook bought around 2002 in the US and it's a G3. I've moved to Thailand and haven't used it a lot due to limited applicability in Thailand. But now, Mac is more available so I'm now considering bought the new iMac. I wonder if I can upgrade the OS X on my iBook to the latest one so that I can have my old iBook sync-ing with the new iMac. And, to use the new features such as time machine, etc... Does anyone know or have done this before? Please help advise.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iBook G3 (Dual USB) can run Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), but cannot run the newest Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). Time Machine is a feature of Leopard, so is not available for the iBook.
I'm not sure how well syncing works between the two OSes, since I don't sync my computers. You can access one from the other, however. I access my eMac (in OS 9.2.2) from my MacBook (in OS 10.4.10), both saving files to the eMac and retrieving files from it.

  • Transfer PDF files in iBooks from ipad to iMac

I want to free up some space on my ipad by moving some PDF files I have saved in iBooks onto my iMac. Any ideas? I can't seem to be able to do it in iTunes.
    Thanks.

When I don't have my computer available, I do this by emailing the PDF to myself then open it from whichever device I need (open in iBooks)

  • Best transition from iBook G4 to new iMac

I would like to move FireFox from my iBook G4 to my new iMac, w/all bookmarks etc. Apple's Migration Assistant did not do it for me.
Please advise best step by step process.
    Thank you

But, one question is, what are file permission issues?
Each file or folder in Mac OS X has a specific owner and permissions set to it. Accounts other than the owner may not have read and write access to that folder. Running Batchmod sets the permissions on a group of items at once so your account has the proper access. If you drag the library over manually, doing this will take care of permission issues. Using the Migration Assistant will create a different Mac OS X user account and use that for the photos; it's probably easier to either use an external drive or connect the two machines with a FireWire or network connection, start up the old computer with the T key held down(FireWire) or log into it(network) and drag the folder over manually.
Also, is the new "Package" in iPhoto '08 important?
The package was added to reduce the chance that people will damage the iPhoto library by modifying it in the Finder.
One more thing (and I'm sorry to be so clueless on this), what will I need for the Migration Assistant? Just a regular ethernet cable? USB?
The Migration Assistant requires a FireWire cable.
