I downloaded ibooks and has no dictionary..how do I download it?
You should not have to download anything to have the built-in dictionary.  Are you saying that you have a book you bought from the ibookstore but you cannot look up a word?  This link shows how to do it

How can I adjust text size in ibooks dictionary?

    Hello Eoradec2012,
It sounds like you are using the Define function in iBooks and you are wanting to increase the size of the font on the page showing the definition. The size of that text can be controlled in the Text Size section:
To adjust the font size, follow these steps:
Go to Settings > General > Text Size.
Drag the slider to the preferred size. The text on the screen will adjust as you move the slider.

  • HT5557 The ibooks dictionary works fine for my iPhone 5, but it does not work for my iPad 2. Is this fixable?

The iBooks dictionary works fine for my iPhone 5, but it does not work for my iPad 2. Is this fixable?

I went to the Audio store to see about getting a surround sound and the salesperson asked me why I wasn't using AirPlay, he said it was better than the Bluetooth, better quality. So I do have AirPlay on my Sony and I installed the app on my iPhone 5 but they can't find eachother.......when I try looking for my iPhone on my receiver it does not show it. The Sony display works through my TV, the set up screen is there but it says no devices found. Like I said, the Bluetooth finds the iPhone and works ok, but the AirPlay does not.....looking at the manuel it says that the AirPlay will recognize my device (iPhone 5) but it does not..........

  • I am looking for a French-English iBook dictionary, not an app

I'm a newbie to my iPad and can't find a French-English iBook dictionary to purchasen. I don't want an app. This is frustrating because I bought the iPad to use instead of books when I'm in France.
    Help!

  • My ibook dictionary is blank?

    My ibook dictionary is blank?

    Hi,
For some reason there appears to be a multitude of threads on this rather than one big one - so it's a somewhat labourious task having to go through all for an answer!!!
I had this and tried absolutely everything before resetting. However nothing worked. The only way this worked for me is:
    Settings
    General
    Reset
    Erase All Content and Settings
Then follow from there. It would be wise to ensure that you have backed the phone up to iCloud or iTunes prior to doing this.
Annoying as I've just come from Android and didn't have any issues with apps there. Doesn't inspire confidence at all, especially as a seemingly widespread issue.

  • IBooks dictionary doesn't work

I thought about posting this in the iBooks forum, but it appears to be only for publishers of books, not for users of the app. (Which is dumb.)
Anyway, I noticed about a week ago that my dictionary no longer works in iBooks. When I highlight a word and tap "Define," it says "No definition found." No matter what word it is. The buttons for "Search Web" and "Search Wikipedia" work, but that's beside the point.
And it continues to happen - even after yesterday's iBooks upate that Apple released (which also didn't fix its excruciating slowness). This happens on any book. All other functionality works - highlighting, making a note, searching, etc.
    Anyone else have this problem?

There is no on/off. To get the definition of a word it is necessary to double tap it to bring up the dialogue box. Selecting Define should enable the dictionary. If this is not happening try a reset is hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo apparently appears.

  • IBooks dictionary: No definitions found

My iPad 2's iBook apps' dictionary is not working.
When I click "define", dictionary pop-up comes up with "no definitions found" phrase.
I don't know how to download the dictionary (english) and there is no option for it.
This happened after iOS 6.0 upgrade and continued in 6.01.
I changed languages a couple of times, but it's not the solution.
In this discussion forum, I saw that many people have the same problem, but there are no answers.
I think its time for apple staff to do something about this.
I've got another iPad 2 with same software and settings and everything's normal with it. After clicking for the first time, it asked to download the dictionary and then works perfectly.
    Help, please.

I did this and it worked. Change language to British English.
    Settings > General > International > Language
Go to a web page with words and highlight one and select "Define"
It prompted me to download the dictionary for that (I had already downloaded the American English or English dictionary)
This defined words so I switched the language back to normal English and everything seems to work fine now.
    Hope this helps.

  • IBooks dictionary feature isn't working

I found a way to make the dictionary feature on iBooks work again.
    Here's how....
Pick any word and click define.  Nothing appears as usual.
You need to then click on "manage".  Now download whichever dictionaries you want.
I downloaded the 1st two, when the download(s) is/are finished you should then
click on the back arrow until I was back at my book.
It should work for you now.  You might also close and reopen the iBooks app if necessary.

The parallax effect is not available on the iPhone 4.

  • How to increase the font size for text in the ibooks' dictionary

In iBooks for iOS 7, I know how to resize the text of my ebooks.
But how can I resize the font of the in-built dictionary?
    Can anybody help me?

The dictionary display appears to be using Dynamic Type, so you can increase its size via the Larger Type function. However, this will also increase type size in a number of other application as well (Messages, Mail, etc.).
Settings app > General > Accessibility > Larger Type (turn ON, the use the slider to set the type size)

  • IBooks Dictionary not working

I have iBooks version 3.0.2 on my iPad and my operating system is 6.0.1
The dictionary does not work. I can select a word and choose "define" from the menu of options, but is always just brings up a window which says "No definitions found."
Other users have solved this problem by turning off the iPad speech function under accessibility, but that didn't work for me.

If I understand you correctly, you asked me to:
    1) Open the iPad app "Notes"
    2) type a word in a note
    3) select that word I just typed (while the English keyboard remains active)
When I followed the above steps, the menu option "Define" does not even come up. My options are just "Cut, Copy, Paste, Suggest..."
After doing the above I realized you probably meant for me to create a note within iBooks.  So, I did steps 1-3 in an iBook note and I got the same result.

  • HT4059 iBooks dictionary

Is it possible to download a Chinese English dictionary for iBooks to use directly? I have been using the copy paste feature and this is slow.

No, it is not possible to add anything like that to an iOS device.  You can ask Apple for it here:

  • IBooks dictionary  not downloading

I tried looking up a word in an iBooks book, it told me I had to download the dictionary before it could look up words. The download keeps failing, is there any other way to install the dictionary part of iBooks?

    Hi.
The most likely reason for your english ebook not to download the english dictionary, is that the metadata for the ebook doesn't have the language set to english.
For example, I converted a PDF document to an EPUB file using a program called Calibre ( which can be freely downloaded, do a search for it). However, the language was set as UND in the resulting EPUB file.
Here is a page I found on fixing this issue: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/backstage/comments/how-to-fix-dictionary-proble ms-in-ibooks-1.1/
    Here's my version of it:
    1. Create a new folder on your desktop and open Terminal.
    2. In Terminal, type:
    cd
and leave a space after it.
    3. Drag the new folder into Terminal and this will make the path of the folder appear. Press enter.
    4. In Terminal, type:
    unzip
and leave a space after it. Now drag the EPUB file into terminal and then press enter.
    5. In Terminal, type:
    open - e content.opf
    6. When TextEdit opens, find the language line and change UND to EN.
*** EN has to be put in CAPITALS.
    7. Save the file and close it.
    8. In Terminal, type:
    zip
and leave a space after it, then drag the EPUB file into terminal
    and then type content.opf
    9. Remove the EPUB file from your iPhone by unpicking it in iTunes and then doing a sync.
    10. Replace the EPUB file in /Users/USERNAME/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Books with the newly updated one, and then do a sync again.

  • HT5557 How do I change the language of iBook Dictionary?

I used to be able to use English - English dictionary when I used "define" on iBook. However, I am seeing English-Japanese dictionary ever since I updated my iPad2's OS to iOS 6.1. I'm using English as my iPad's language, and I don't see anything about dictionary in the settings. Any help appreciated! Thank you very much in advance.

It worked! Thank you very much! Funny thing though. It didn't work when I first typed "labor" and did define in iBook( I did restarted iBook). Then I realized you wrote "labour", so I typed labour, went back to iBook, define a random word, and it worked! Thanks a lot Tom!
