IBooks file problems

I am having problems with a collection of exported ibooks that have all originated from one template. When exporting the ibooks into the ibooks application only one file from that collection is visible. When I try to import one of the files in again it asks me whether I would like to replace it which is very confusing with no file visible. I have deleted the .plist files in the library and restarted but the problem still remains.
Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Since OS X, i have problem to export .iba file to .ibook file

    Hi,
I have an .ibook file and an .iba file of my eTextbook published in september 2013. I published the eTextbook on iBookstore, and everything was perfect.
I made some changes recently on my textbook, and my .iba file was perfect.
But when i exported my .iba file into an .ibook file to see it on my iPad, some weird characters appeared, and some words disappeared. Also, some images moved.
Trying to solve that problem, i used my old .iba file from september, export it into .ibook file, and the problem was the same. But it wasn't the case in september.
So i just took my .ibook file from september (without exporting), put it on my iPad, and saw that everything was ok.
It looks like the exportation from .iba to .ibook is a problem now.
Is this because of OS X (10.9.2)?
    I use keynote 6.1, iBooks 1.0.1 and iBookAuthor 2.1.1.

The problem with offering a solution to this  --- is the fact that its a random problem.i.e. its affecting you but - if response from others with the problem on this group is an indication - nobody  else.
This would indicate a problem with either your installation of iBA or perhaps an OS installation.
While some will be OK deleting iBA , and this needs a real delete using an app such as "appdelete" or similar, to remove  all files including cache and library file, -  most if not all people will not really want to run a compete re-install of Mavericks.
So i just took my .ibook file from september (without exporting), put it on my iPad, and saw that everything was ok.
If its OK on the iPad - It could indicate the  problem you have is created by the Mavericks OS or possibly even the iBooks app on your  iMac.
Like wise, Apple are stuck because even if  they gave you an upload link and  tested your iBA  and iBook files, odds are they will be OK on their  machines. Which begs the question - do you have  and friends with iMacs who could install iBA and  check the exports?  Ditto put the files on a USB and   go into your nearest Apple store and ask them to  do the same.   If either or both  have  positive results, at least you can save the iBooks file to update your book and work on a machine solution with less pressur to deal with an update.

  • Format issue causing iBook navigation problems

    Hello!
I created an iBook for a client, but some of the default functions of an iBook aren’t working when it’s previewed on iPad. My question is: since the file format seems to be the issue, what can be done to alleviate it?
    Problems
When previewing the iBook on the iPad...
Framing features such as navigation bar, book info, bookmark tool, etc. are missing
The pages lack animated page turns
Right and left page edge riffles are missing
When the iPad is turned vertically…
Pages scroll top to bottom instead of left to right as they should
    All images disappear
Basically, the iBooks works mostly well in landscape mode but not so much in portrait mode. The client checked other iBooks to compare and the iBook I created is the only one with problems with the interface functions.
Steps Taken To Save & Preview File
Saved the iBook file as an IBA file. I also Exported it as an iBooks file.
Sent IBA and iBooks files to the client to preview on his iPad (I don’t have one so I can’t preview it myself).
The client opened the IBA file using iBooks Author then clicked the “Preview” button.
The IBA file cross-loads to the iPad and the problems can be seen.
The client also attempted to load the IBA and iBooks files on the Book Proofer application (this application does accept IBA and iBooks files), but that didn't work either. The client told me that are some file format issues unrelated to content, leading me to believe that it's a format issue.
    Technical Specifications
iBook Author version I used to create iBook
    1.1 (the latest)
iBooks version client used to preview iBook
    iBooks version 2.1.1 (April 16, 2012 release)
iPad version the iBook is being previewed on
    1st Generation 64GB iPad
File being used to preview on iPad
The IBA and iBooks files for the iBook
Could it be file format incompatibilities? Has anyone had this issue before? I hope the information I provided is useful. Any insight about these issues is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Catrina

Again, sorry, a 'Shared' .ibooks file has the same format as what users download from the store.
You don't need to be in the store to circulate that file. 'private' as defined depends on you. Email that file if possible and/or put it on your own server/dropbox and share the link to trusted individuals.
If you're sending the .iba file to someone that then uses it in iBA, they need to use the 'Shared' menu to generate an .ibooks file, then drop that into iTunes and sync to their device.

  • Has anyone been able to upload an ibooks file with audio only files (m4a) in it? I keep getting the following error message during the upload in iTunes Producer: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets.

Has anyone been able to upload an ibooks file with audio only files (m4a) in it? I keep getting the following error message during the upload in iTunes Producer: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets. then it names the file as an m4p file. Everything works beautifully on the iPad through Preview, and validates through iTunes Producer up until the attempted upload. If you've been able to accomplish this, please let me know how you prepared your audio files. Many thanks.

    Hello Fellow iBook Authors!
Today I received the same error that you all have been discussing.  I tried selecting the DRM
and this did not work for me, though I'm glad it did for some.  Here's what I did as a work-around. . .
Since iBooks Author did not have a problem with Videos, I simply used one of my video programs, ScreenFlow to turn the audio into a video file m4v.  I added an image and extended the length or timing of the image to span the length of the audio file.  Then exported as an .mov.  I then opened QuickTime and opened the file and exported the file to iTunes.
You can use iMovie, Camtasia or any other progam that will allow you to export the audio as a movie file.  Does this make sense?  I hope this helps, at least in the short-term.

  • Previewing .iBooks file on iPad opens older versions of the file

I'm in the process of developing a file in iBooks Author and to preview it, I email the .iBooks file to myself as well as my reviewers to preview it on our iPads. When I preview my .ibook file in iBooks, it open a previous version of the same file. How can I get it to open the latest version?
I tried deleting all previous versions from iBooks, deleting my previous emails containing older versions of the file.
    Thanks!

Wondering if you found a solution to your problem that might help me solve mine.
I would try deleting all titles from iBooks, uninstalling it, and reinstalling it. Before syncing for the first time, make sure that only the correct version of the book is in iTunes. Also take any older versions and move them into a different location in the file system. Unless you use the consolidated library feature in iTunes, iTunes might possibly be confused and be pointing at an older version of the book. You could also search your iTunes library for stale copies of the book. If you find any, delete them. It sometimes happens that the iTunes library XML file gets out of sync with reality.
This might help. If not, I'm out of ideas, sorry.

  • How to install .ibooks file on the iPad ?

    Hello,
I have created a large ibooks (1,3Gb) and want to distribute it for validation before publication on the AppStore.
If I use a simple webpage with a link to my ibooks file, it works without any problem with a small iBooks (safari download complete and popup asking to open it with iBooks)
but when I tried with my 1,3Gb it will take "hours" before safari complete the download and the "Open with iBook" never appears...
Same problem with iTunes... I did not succeed to install it on my iPad
How can I distribute a LARGE iBooks for peer reviews ?
In the past I used a plist file in order to distribute iOs app via Safari, but i don't know how to do it with a Book...
    Thanx for your anwser,
    TP

    Hi,
I've a 390MB .ibooks file that I made and I need to put it on a few ipads without using iTunes.
    I tried the dropbox method:
-after downloading the .ibooks file in dropbox and choosing "open with iBooks" dropbox app went stuck on "exporting file" spinning wheel forever.
So I tried the web download method:
-I put the .ibooks file on a webserver, downloaded the file with safari then pressed the "open in iBooks" button: the button seems unresponsive. After a *very* long time (20-30 minutes) the file was eventually transferred to ibooks.
This is going to confuse every user I ask to download the book.
Do you have any advice please?
    TIA
    Guido

Please advise as to Why it would work on an older OS X version as oppose to the newer OS X Yosemite

    Thanks Lyra,
I may be doing something wrong because looking at the "Purchased" in iBooks I only see all the books that I actually purchased, none of the iBooks that I created in iBooks Author shows up. I can re-download all the iBooks I've purchased and some in iCouds, but the ones I've created  in iBooks Author are no where to be found.
    Any help is much appreciated,

  • How do I privately distribute an ibooks file outside of email?

I export my ibook in .ibooks format.  My ibook will be too big to distribute via email.  So I try uploading to my webserver, and when I try linking it:  http://www.domain.com/thebook.ibooks ...the browser shows as a 404 broken link page.  Then, i try ITMS-books://www.domain.com/thebook.ibooks.  I click on the link from my ipad.  iBooks opens but unable to connect to the content.
To avoid a discussion about selling my book outside of the iBookstore, my iBook is FREE and I want to distribute it privately.
    Please help.

How do you upzip a file from an iPad?
That depends on the OS in use. Snow Leopard and Lion using Safari will automatically download and unzip the file. Older Mac users may have to use the context menu to manually download and unzip the software. As K T already indicated, zipping the file prevents potential Mac problems. Since the .ibooks file is basically a zipped folder, newer operating systems will automatically unzip the .ibooks file and turn it into a "folder" while older systems may treat the file as a "text" file. As to PC patforms, I couldn't say not being a Windows user.
Actually, I tried the zip and it surprisingly unzipped it from within Safari and it showed "Open with iBooks" link...  but when I click on the link it opens iBooks but then says "Do you want to leave iBooks and open this link?"  and nothing happens.
I normall recommend managing all eBook content (ePUB, iBooks, PDF) using iTunes as the point of entry, primary storage, and for syncing to all other devices rather than going directly to a mobile device.

  • You have unsaved changes to iTunes Producer Issue with iBooks file

    MacBook OSX Lion 10.7.5
    ITunesProducer Vers. 2.9.1 (375)
My machine has been phased out and updating the OS will happen when ache e elel freezes.
So, I followed what other people did when receiving this error and saved my file. I exported the saved file to my desktop as an Ibooks file. I then attempted to upload the saved file and this still pops up on my screen. How do I get rid of this errorwithout needing to buy a new machine? Or, do all Macbooks eventually become landfill lessees for a producer? Your help is appreciated.

Software glitches such as this do not warrant disposal of the computer - so the landfill problem is averted.
I notice in the image that the itmsp number is a copy - I say this because I have never seen any items number ending -1 - which is ( to me) a sign that this is a copy made either during  a transfer or intentionally.
iTunesProducer will not recognise this - because its not the  same number which it created during the  first upload.
I suggest you  delete the "-1" from the itmsp number and double  click it to open iTP or  open iTP and copy and  paste the number.
Check the file content in full - which means you may have to add the screenshots and book files - then save it.
Another interpretation....  the file cannot be moved because it does not exist - and what you are seeing is a link  - although there should have  been a curved arrow as seen on all alias links.
BTW if you consider that updates or  a computer crash threatens your book files.... its wise to save a copy of the iBA file - the book in progress in iBA - NOT the exported version which cannot be opened in iBA.

  • .ibook files (not epubs) ...and epubs with blank pages ...all on a PC.

    Dearest friends (I hope),
I come to you with my hat in my hand today after nearly a month of wrestling with Adobe Digital Editions. Granted, a large part of that was my initial lack of following instructions in haste, giving up, deleting my needed epub files, and subsequently rescuing them. I am now at a point of approximately 75% success, on both my laptop and PC. My final pieces are... icons that look like white pages that are not epub files, but .ibook files.
My next problem is that my more costly, and even some free ibooks only open to blank pages.
Information on the web in sketchy at best, and often outdated (pre ADE 4), and I would like to finally put this behind me. I am a straight up guy. I was buying Adobe products at $700 a pop when I really couldn't afford them, I also gladly pay for books to support authors and artists. The power of this software has such potential for academics' in that highlights can be made, and notes can be marked or written for later reference in research. I love the ability to pull things from my PC right into Word. Yet, at times, I like the comfort of sitting quietly reading via my iPad. I have no intentions of doing anyone wrong, breaking laws, or anything of the sort; I simply find great value in this product.
If someone would help me separate the wheat from the chaff I would be very thankful. I am weary, looking for answers even trying to get this far. I have made it to 75% success however
I do subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud, if any other Adobe products may be of help.
Peace and good will to all.

I suggest you confirm that you did infact save them as .doc files, and that you included the .doc filename extension at the end.

  • DW CS5 Missing Related Files Problem

    Hello
Hoping somebody may be able to help me with a missing related files problem in CS5. I've tried Adobe phone support but they couldn't solve the problem.
*Some* of my sites (but not all) are not showing all the files related to that page. My pages are typically in .asp vb server model and contain .asp virtual includes (header, nav etc) plus .js and .css linked files
However DW is only showing the .asp includes as related files and not css or js ones. In design view the CSS is displaying correctly, and all styles appear in the CSS inspector but not showing as a related file in the bar. In CS4 it works fine.
I've tried deleting the site and recreating it, copying the files to a new folder and setting up a fresh site, creating a new folder and downloading all files from the remote server but no joy. I've also tried refreshing related files. if I click on the filter in the bar it only shows the asp includes and nothing else.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated, this is a great feature when it works
    Cheers
    MB

    UPDATE:
Managed to solve this problem, this is a new issue to DW CS5, previous versions do not seem to exhibit this problem
It occurs when you use site root rather than document relative paths for js/css etc files AND don't have the remote site url (web url) specified in the site setup | local info dialog, or do not have it fully qualified with http://
ie. ../js/file.js works fine without a remote web url but /js/file.js does not show the related file in the bar unless a remote url is defined.
Hope that helps anyone else that encounters the same issue!

  • With conversion to Leopard, file problems with networked Windows computer

Last night I did an Archive & Install from Tiger to Leopard on my Intel MacBook Pro. Today, I had trouble finding the other computers at my office. Once I finally got them to show up, I opened a Word file found on another computer, made some changes, and when I tried to save it, I got this message: "This is not a valid file name. Try one or more of the following: *Check the path to make sure it was typed correctly. *Select a file from the list of files and folders." Since this file already existed and I wasn't changing the name, I thought this was odd, but I changed the name from "Seating Chart 3-8-08" to "SeatingChart3-8-08" in case Leopard didn't like spaces when talking to Windows, but I got the same error message. Finally I gave up, not knowing what to do, then discovered that it had in fact saved my file. Still, every time I try to save ANY Word document from the shared folder of the Windows computer, I get the same error message endlessly until I choose "Don't Save."
When I try to open an Excel file from that computer, it won't even open; it says " 'File Name.xls' cannot be accessed. This file may be Read-Only, or you may be trying to access a Read-Only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding." As with the Word file problem above, I did not have any problem accessing the files until I converted to Leopard.
The Windows machine is Windows XP using Microsoft Office 2003; I have Microsoft Office 2004 on my machine.

  • How do I consolidate multiple PDF pages into one iBook file ?

I have a big test coming up, and I have 600 practice questions saves as PDF's on my iMac.  I tried downloading them through iTunes on my iPad, but it looks like they downloaded as 600 individual iBook files.  Needless to say, it will waste a lot of time opening up and closing each page.
Is there a way to "consolidate" all 600 of these PDF files, so that they appear as one single iBook file?  I would really like to study by turning the page, instead of being forced to close each file and open a new one 600 times.
    Thanks!

Good to know -- there is no file format "Adobe Acrobat Reader" and there is no application "Adobe Acrobat Reader".
The file format PDF is what Acrobat can create and manipulate.
(Acrobat is a "for pay" desktop application.)
Adobe Reader ( a free to download, install and use application) can open and let one view PDF files.
To combine PDF files you would use Acrobat.
An alternative would be to subscribe to Adobe's online subscription service "PDF Pack".
    Be well...

  • How can I import an ibook file back into iBook Author?

I exported an ebook from iBook Author thinking it is the equivalent of saving the file.
I did not save the file, I only exported it and than exited the program.
    My active file is vannished.
I need to make some adjustments to the ebook, but can not bring it back up.
Is there a way that I can re-import the iBook file back into iBook Author?
When I open iBook Author and try to open the exported file the program does not recognise the ibook file...
    Thanks for your help!

Check for previous versions of that book in iBA....even if not saved.
You can dig into the .ibooks file by changing the suffix to zip, but you'll have to manually extract what you can from assets you find. Please only do this with your own books.

  • Restore iBooks files from time machine backup after clean install

I just did a clean install of Yosemite. I still have a Time Machine backup of my Mavericks install. iBooks in my new Yosemite install does not have all of my books and pdfs in it - just the ones I can download from the iBookstore.
Is there an easy way to access my Mavericks Time Machine backup to retrieve my old iBooks files?

When I go back to the backup it does not let me go back to the previous backupprobably because the last backup was Lion and I am on Mt. Lion now.  don't what to do another backup if that is going to mess up the old one.  I can access it though by just going to it.  So i am putting that one on my desktop and I am going to rename it and see if I can open in Iphoto.
