Ibooks is unable to show real page numbers of books.

This is a limiting factor of using ibooks for research, school purposes, referencing, technical books. Currently page numbers scale depending on font size, iBooks does not use original paperback page numbers. I have just bought a book from the apple store and it is a technical book where I need to jump to cetain pages. I am also a university student and our lecturer gives us pages 100 - 150 to read however I am not able to follow the readings because this function is not built into ibooks. I have contacted Apple support and they have confirmed this function is currently missing, is there any ETA on when this function maybe integrated. This is a very important if ibooks is to be used to read books for any type of research or school purposes, and pretty much a deal breaker for me as I need to re-purchase a paperback version now. I know Kindle supports this function and has been doing so since 2011.

The iTunes store says of the upgrade to iBooks 2.1 that it can show page numbers that correspond to the printed edition of select titles.
I've searched about but can find no detail on if or whether this applies to.ibooks format or more generically to .epub format.

I'm guessing you're correct, though there is a method of correllating physical page numbers with documents in epub. I'm hoping this isn't a fixed length only thing or an iBooks Author only thing. For legal or educational books, having the ability to reference a specific page that's the same as it is in print is very important. As a matter of fact legal citations often reference page numbers.
So far Apple is doing a good job of providing a book reader that does more than novels, I hope the addition of page numbers is one of them. Note I have tried the epub method, but I can't get it to work, so I'm not sure if I'm messing up with the coding or if this isn't supported.

1 sheet with multiple pages will not show various page numbers

I'm having a difficult time differentiating between pages and sheets in Numbers. For example, I have 1 sheet with 5 pages. I am inserting page numbers (done, re-done several times after looking through the forum), but each page will not print with a sequential number (ie. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Instead, each page is 1. When I scroll over the number "1" on, say, page 3, the number 3 shows up. But unfortunately t will not print with anything but page number 1.

I am having a problem that is close to this, when I try and preview my site in browser some of the pages show up as a white and gray blocks only. I can not seem to find any reason or connection to what pages are doing this. The only page that has a video seems to work fine. Its almost acting like the links are broken or something. Any help would be welcomed.

Is there a way to show actual page numbers on the PDF when exported?

I would like for the page numbers to shown at the bottom of the page when I export my form as a PDF. The actual page number - not the logical page. Is there a way to do this?

Is there a tutorial/primer for working with conditional text and page numbering in book folders?

I'm ramping up on FrameMaker 9 and have been experimenting with using folders in book files. I like being able to add Frame files to the folder to organize content. But I also need to use conditional tags. In one version of my book, the entire contents of some files in one folder are hidden using conditional text. I can't figure out how to set the numbering for each file so that the page numbers adjust appropriately in this scenario. Or is it even possible to do this?
Can anyone recommend an advanced tutorial for using folders in Frame 9?

It would be easier to maintain if you create a different book file that omits the entire "conditionalized" set of files.

Page numbers in books for blurb

Hello I am creating a book in Lightroom 5 using a Blurb preset .
Is there anyway that I can choose which page the numbering starts ,as I have an inside title page which I dont want to have a number 1 page start ?
I wrote to Blurb but they told me to contact Lightroom

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes, you can turn on or off page numbering in the Setting pane in the book mode. You could add a blank page at the end and then create a text document, start a print to PDF and select the Send PDF to iPhoto option. then you can add that image of the index you created in your text editor to the last page in a one photo per page layout. Here's a landscape and portrait text document added that way. You can set up any page layout you want to use the file and any application to create the index file.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Ibooks on Ipad IOS7 shows blank page as store after update.

Hi, I have updated my Ipad to IOS7 and use the latest Itunes sw on my computer.
Itunes and Ibook show only blank page when I open the store,
tried to reload app, restart Ipad, allow cookies ... nothing worked.

Okay, try this...
Go to Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Apple ID and sign out of your account. Then sign back in with your Apple ID. Try iBooks again...
If that doesn't work, go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. When done, turn your iPad off (hold the Sleep button down for several seconds. When the red slider appears, switch it off. Wait a few seconds and then press and hold the Sleep button for 1-2 seconds and let go). After the reboot you will need to reconnect your Wi-Fi, log back in to App Store, iBook Store, and iTunes. Try downloading content again.

Page navigation in Acrobat does not match page numbers in the document

I have a document in both Framemaker format (server.book) and PDF (server.pdf). When I view the pdf file in Adobe Acrobat, the page numbers appear correctly on the document itself, but up in the Page Navigation window within Acrobat the pages number doesn't match.
In the beginning of the book I have Title page, a Table of Contents, and a Preface that all use lower-case roman numerals. However, when viewing this document via Acrobat, the Title pages show up as i, and ii, but then the Table of Contents and Preface show up as pages 1 - 8 instead of iii - x in the page navigation window.
I can't figure where this discrepancy is originating.
Please help.

How to get the page numbers in the PrintAdvance Data grid without using Vbox/Vgroup header or footer

Image Caches hold images you've already loaded so the next time you request them, they can be made available without network latency. This assume for your DG, that all images you need to print have been loaded by, for example, whatever DG the user was looking at before hitting Print. This is easy when there are only a few icons used to show status, but won't work if each row has a different image unless you've somehow loaded up all of those images beforehand.

Adding a 'background' to page numbering

Hi,
I have a large document which includes multiple PDFs that have been imported into the appendices.
I want to turn page numbering on so all the pages are numbered, which is easy enough of course.
The problem I have is that some of the pages (in the appendices) follow totally different formats or may have graphics and text where the page numbering is and therefore you are unable to see the page numbering on these pages.
Is it possible to format the page numbering in a way so that it always shows up - perhaps say a white box so it appears on top of other page elements?

A 'background' layer always drops to the bottom of the stack, hence the name.
A 'watermark' layer can be on top or beneath, but if it's on top and left editable it will be above the header/footer too, so you need to flatten it as got go:
Create your 'whiteout' boxes using the Watermark tool.
Open the Layers panel on the left sidebar in Acrobat.
Click the tools dropdown and choose Flatten Layers, agree to the warning
Now use the header/footer tool to add the page numbers on top

, Page Numbering/TOC in InDesign CS5

Hi, I am using InDesign CS5 and need some help showing the page numbers for a section that will be added after printing.
I have almost completed a low volume 400+ page book (60 copies) and need some special numbering.
I am using 8 & 16pp signatures in this book. The first section is: Front Matter, the second section is for Front Text, the Center Section is a color photo album with 40pp (2-16pp & 1-8pp signatures), and the fourth section is Back Text.
The Center Section will be printed on a color printer and hand inserted at the binders. I have no problem with the numbering of all the sections, but I would like to have the center section to be included in the Table of Contents of the book. I could update the TOC manually but as I move things around that would be a lot of work and I might have errors later. I hope that I made this question clear enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would add the pages for the color section and any headings you want to include in the TOC, and simply not include it in the PDF you send to the the monochrome printer, and include only that section in a PDF for the color printer.

Automatic page numbering not working in book files

Hi. Using CS3, I have successfully created a book in the past, where the dialog box of the book file shows consecutive page numbers for each file.
e.g file 1 1-4 (indicating 4 pages, starting on page 1)
file 2 5-22 (indicating 18 pages, starting on page 5) etc.
Files automatically renumber if I insert pages, etc.
This next book I am creating has two problems:
1. the book file dialog box shows
file a 1-4 (indicating 4 pages, starting on page 1)
file b 1-6 (indicates 6 pages - STARTS ON PAGE 5 AS IS IS SUPPOSED TO, in some cases - see problem 2).
I've followed the protocol below:
For the first document, I select "start page numbering at" and enter "1". For the rest of the files, I select the automatic page numbering radio button.
Why won't the dialog box reflect, for file b, pages being 5-11 as it is supposed to? This will get very confusing as the document gets larger.
2. I created a document by resaving an initial file as a new file in order to create additional documents, keeping the same master but changing content. Even with the automatic page numbering radio button selected, some of these files start on the wrong page (e.g. 5 when the file is supposed to start on 12), after I select Update Page and Section numbers from the book dialog drop-down. I can't figure out what may forcing an override of this page numbering and am looking for a pointer in the right direction...thank you,

I am having the same exact problem as Erin. The page numbers don't even get updated correctly on the documents within the book.
I'm using InDesign CS3 5.0.3 on Win XP.
For the first document in the book, "Start Page Numbering at:" is set to "1." "Chapter Number:" is set to 1.
For the second and third+ documents in the book, "Automatic Page Numbering" is selected, as is "Continue from Previous Document in the Book."
In the Book panel, all documents show page "1-x". When I open the second and third+ documents, the page numbers all start at page 2.
Any ideas? Please tell me this is a documented bug because it's driving me crazy.

End on even without page numbering

Hi.
I have this RTF template that I'm using to generate a pdf file with lots of invoices.
I'm printing this PDF in duplex mode. For that to be possible I had to use this tag to add a blank page to the end of each invoice in case it ends in an odd page:
<?section:force-page-count;'end-on-even'?>
The problem is that when the last page is added, it still shows the page numbering that I inserted on the header. My client is complaining about it.
Is there any way I could add a last page without showing the page numbering?
