IBooks not opening books

I can open iBooks on my MacBook Pro, but when I double click to open a book, the book comes up, then disappears. When I view all the open windows, it shows that my open book is there, but when I go back to my normal desktop screen, the book still isn't there. How can I actually read one of my books?

No other Spaces set up. Just main Desktop but the Book window clearly disappears offscreen.
Window > Zoom does help for me in that the book will appear in a small window. From there going Fullscreen works.
But the next time I open iBooks I have to go through the same process all over again.
Reminds me of issues I used to see on other machines of windows trying to open in the screen of an external monitor that is no longer attached. Maybe I should delete Display preferences.

    my I Book will not open the book...what am I not doing?

    Hello Garta,
    It sounds like you have either bought and downloaded an iBook or synced one over through iTunes and it will not open. I recommend first closing all the running apps on the device:
    iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.
    When you have done that restart the phone and try to open it again:
    iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    If this does not resolve the issue, would you mind ellaborating on what is happening when you try to open this iBook?
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • IBooks not opening this one particular ebook

    I just downloaded iBooks on my new iPad 4, and have been attaching my PDF ebooks in emails sent to myself as my method of transferring (I don't know of any other way of transferring PDF files from my MacBook). From the emails sent to myself I've been opening those PDFs onto iBooks and so far no hassle, except for this one PDF ebook.
    I've tried opening and resending the file to myself over and over again, but everytime I open it in iBooks it opens the first page for a split seconds and then the whole app closes and I find myself staring at my iPad main screen.
    Not sure why it's only this one file, it opens and works just fine on my MacBook's Preview. Any ideas?

  • IBooks not opening with cover created by iBooks Author?

    I have created an iBook with iBook Author uploaded to the iBookstore and downloaded to my iPad. It always opens on the first page and NOT the cover. How can I make it open on the cover and not the first page? Thanks and cheers! Sam

    You don't specify how you're writing to the file, but this problem can occur
    if you open the file and then keep it open so you can write data as it comes
    in without the overhead of opening the file each time. When you use the
    "Open File" function there is a "Deny Mode" input which defaults to letting
    other applications read and write to the file while Labview has the file
    open. If you have set this otherwise, there may be the problem. Otherwise,
    try explicitly closing the file before reading it with Access.

  • IBooks not opening on Mac running Yosemite

    Hi everyone,
    Would love some help, I went to open iBooks today on my late 2011 MacBook Pro running Yosemite but it will not open, the app bounces once on my dock and does nothing. I reinstalled Yosemite as others have said has work and that has done nothing.
    Thank you for any help.

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to launch iBooks. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

  • Can not open book i downloaded, problem with adobe id.

    I keep trying to open book i
    I downloaded and keep getting message to enter adobe id and password. I have done that then i get message error, help!

    The ID that matters is the internal ID, that stays the same with the account even when the email or password changes.
    Instructions to find that internal ID below.
    You can find the internal ID registered to ADE at the moment using crel-shift-I to see if that matches.
    (ADE1.7.2 only gives the external id, not the internal one.  One of the very few areas ADE2.0 is better)
    One thing that might be worth doing is deauthorizing both ADE and the Sony, then reauthorizing.
    The authorization sometimes gets its knickers in a twist.
    ctrl-shift-D to deauthorize ade
    ctrl-shift-E to deauthorize the Sony (to ADE with Sony plugged in)
    ~~~~~
    OK.  To find the internal AdobeID.
    open a sample DRM .epub file as a .zip file.
    With some zip programs, you can just open the .epub as an archive (ev, with 7zip),
    with others you will have to rename the .epub file to a .zip file first, then open it.
    find the file 'rights.xml' within the zip.  Probably  'META-INF\rights.xml'
    open the rights.xml file
    inside you will find a section '<user>' that looks something like
    <user>urn:uuid:ff2ddc22-eca0-46c6-a84d-xxxxxxxxxxxx</user>
    That string is the internal version for your AdobeID.
    That stays fixed for the AdobeID, even if you change the associated email (or password),
    that internal ID is what is really associated with the book.
    (n.b. there is no point in trying to change the urn to a current one you might find and recreating the .epub file; the DRM is cleverer than that).
  • IBooks not displaying books
    This only happens on my iPad (G1). While Browsing the authors list I'll tap an author name, but no books show up, it just keeps flashing the "Tap an author in the list to browse their books" message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. It works fine from my iPod Touch.
    Hi,
    Close the App Store app, the iTunes app and the iBooks app by pressing the Home button twice, and swiping them up.
    Then go to Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies and Data
    Open the apps again.
    I'd recommend as well to sign out and in using Settings > iTunes & App Store
    Hope that helps.
  • How do I open make iBooks regognize two books created in iBA as different books/files? (iBooks opening separate books as the same file)
    I am trying to load two different books created in iBooks Author into iBooks. These books were exported instead of uploaded to the iBookstore, therefore I download them and then open with iBooks on an iPad.
    Here is my problem:
    When I download a book (Book A), it opens in iBooks correctly. If I download a second book (Book B),  instead of opening  Book B, iBooks re-opens Book A. This also happens vice-versa if I delete Book A and then upload Book B. Essentially, both books cannot be loaded in iBooks at the same time, and iBooks treats the second download/open attempt as the second book being opened, when in actuality it opens the wrong book.
    When I looked at the authoring files, I saw they had the same title listed in the Book Pane in iBA. Even when this title is changed, the books fail to open correctly in iBooks.
    Has anyone run into a similar problem? Also, I am wondering if legacy meta data is a possible reason for iBooks to open the same book twice instead of loading and opening the new book? (if this is the case, is there a way that this legacy meta data can be deleted)?
    Thanks in advance for your help/support.
    Update: Solved.
    Either creating a new file or saving the old as a template file & renaming it solved my problem.
    Mine does the same thing occasionally, is your phone jailbroken? Sometimes it will work if you delete the book and reinstall it or put your phone into airplane mode then turn it back off.
  • HT1725 I downloaded the book Sycamore Row last week and when I try to open it on my iPad , i get a message that says: Cannot open "sycamore Row' it is formatted incorrectly, or it is not a format that Ibooks can open. what's up?
    I downloaded the Book Sycamore Row last week on my ipad and when I tried to open it, I got the message that it was formatted incorrectly, or is not a format that ibooks can open? if this is true, how do I get aREFUND?
    You can try deleting the book and reinstall it. There is no reason why the book would be formatted incorrectly - assuming that you purchased this book from the iBooks Store .... And you are talking about the John Grisham novel correct?
    Did you try just closing the iBooks app, restart the iPad and then try again? If you don't know how, this explains how to close an app.
