IBooks publishing for coauthors and illustrators?

How does publishing to the iBookstore work for coauthors and illustrators? Is there a way to determine the percentage of royalties paid to each individual when you setup your contract with Apple? I understand that Apple keeps 30% and authors 70%, but how is that split up when there are multiple authors? I would assume that Apple has the ability to pay coauthors and illustrators separate royalty checks, but I haven't been able to find any information on this (even after reading two separate manuals for iTunes Connect and iBooks). Please let me know if you've had any experience with this and could tell me how the whole process works. Thanks!

Apple won't do this for you. You are the publisher, hence it is up to you to distribute royalties in the correct proportions to authors.
Michi.

i think "Publish for Devices" and "Publish for Devices (App). it same.
"Publish for Devices (App)" for easy connect phonegap.
"Publish for Devices"  for advance user.
not sure you understand but i only share.

Publish for Devices (App) is to publish your captivate project as a native application using PhoneGap API.
Publish for Devices is the normal html publish but for Responsive project. It will publish your project as html content and later you can upload it on some LMS or WebServer to view the content on devices using Browser. It has not nothing to do about advance users.
In both the cases the content will change according to the size of the viewing device.

  • ONE BI publisher for DEV and Production

    Hi,
is there anyway I can setup ONE BI publisher for both the dev and production environment. the dev and production are in
separate boxes? the reason I need to do this is that oracle charges licenses fees for the development as well.
    Thanks,
    Odeh

    Hi,
Iis technically possible to have two different databases pointing at BI Publisher, but you want to make sure the users can access the correct reports. But what I would say is that it isn't a particular good way to have your environments setup. The point of having a dev and a prod environment is to ensure that things are tested and proof of concept can be carried out without affecting the live systems. I would suggest that the separate licenses is worth the cost from my own personal experience, otherwise you risk having a live environment that is quite unstable.

  • Level-2 GPU published for IOS and Box2D/WCK    Does this fall under the revenue share requirements?

WCK uses the Box2D Alchemy port and therefore uses "Domain Memory".  Part 1 of premium features usage.
Does publishing to "Level-2 GPU" constitute use of Stage3D?  Is this now part 2?
Does our project now fall under the revenue share requirements?
We aren't using Starling or any framework other than WCK.
I wouldn't think Level-2 GPU constitutes use of Stage3D but have to ask.
We would appreciate some clarification from Adobe on this.

Thanks Kevin.  I need to read more carefully. We are targeting IOS/Android with this project.
"Level 2 - GPU" is a choice in the "Hardware Acceleration" drop down box on the main Publish Settings screen when
you have Flash (.swf) highlighted in the left pane on Flash Pro CS5.5
The other settings pages have Auto, CPU or GPU under "Rendering" or "Render Mode"
Like I said I need to read more carefully.
What is NOT considered part of the premium features?
The following uses are NOT considered premium and there is no revenue share required for these uses:
    Use of domain memory alone,
Use of hardware accelerated Stage3D features alone,
Use of software rendering of Stage3D, or
Use of these features within Flash content packaged as apps using AIR
    Thanks again guys

can i read books from ibooks without an internet connection?

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,

  • LDAP Password Error in Publisher for CUCM and Unity Connection

    HI all,
We recently virtualized all our unified communications and I'm having an odd issue with LDAP Directory configuration.
When attempting to do an Ldap synch from the publisher  in either CUCM OR CUC I get the following error:
    Ldap Password::
    - Passwords do not match
If I try to do a synch through the subscriber, directory will synch with no issues. If I redo the password and the confirm password and immediately synch without first saving,it works, but if I Save before re-synching,  I get the above error.
    Current Versions:
    CUCM: 8.6.2.22900-9
    CUC: 8.6.2ES44.22900-44
    Anyone have any ideas?

Have you taken a look at the docwiki about spec based hardware of unified communications?

You just have to check both SWF and HTML when publishing. Load up everything to a server. Have a look at this video, some more in the same channel:

  • Publish for Approval - has anybody got this working?

    Hi guys,
I just heard about Publish for Approval and thought I would take it for a spin. But I can't get it going.
Whenever I start the publish for approval application it asks for questions which aren't in the notes. Like where is Aperture-Submit.acgi? I have tried selecting the acgi dispatcher, aperture itself and the publish for approval application. It doesn't seem to matter what you choose. It then presents the panel, you fill in the guff and hit publish. It then re-displays the preferences panel, set to Sharing and tells me on a different dialog box:
    Setup Error
Use of Publish for Approval system requires that Personal Web Sharing be active.
    But it is!!
The box is ticked and the status just above the stop button shows:
    Personal Web Sharing on
I'm new to Apple but I am missing something obvious here?
I think if the instructions said this was really complex and hard to do, I might feel a bit better. But it talks about how easy it is supposed to be.....
    Please help a frustrated user.
    Paul M

I'm not using RAID or NFS. My startup drive is the standard 160GB SATA internal of a G5 formatted as Journaled HFS+.
I have filevault activated on a 2nd account on this computer, but not on the active account.
Publish was working with the above drive configurations. The only things that have changed since it was working is the uprade to Aperture 2 and a range of various software updates that came through after installing 10.5.2 and Aperture 2.
I am using Time Machine, which I activated around the same time as I started using Aperture 2, which was when Publish stopped working. However, Time Machine is only set to backup the desktop, docs and music folders of my home account, plus a 2nd internal drive. But I thought it was worth mentioning.
As I wrote in the email (to Sal), Publish doesn't fail right away for me, it happens after several images have been processed, then I get a -1700 applescript error.

  • IBooks Author (Publisher) for IPad?

Is there a way to publish books to the iBook store via iPad?  Is there a compatible app for iBooks Author (which can only be gotten if you have a Mac)?

    Synemin wrote:

Not directly, you would have to use an Aggregator like Smashwords.  What format you would need to produce depends on what is accepted by the aggregator.  If you want to create .epub format, search the app store for "epub" and you should find some apps.

  • IBooks support for auxiliary content and linking?

I have a couple of questions for the iPad/iBooks owners out there that I hope can answer them for me. I'm in Canada, so I won't be getting an iPad for at least another month or more (also waiting for the 3G), and I don't have any readily available access to one to try for myself.
    1) This is a bit technical, but I'll just come right out and ask it. How is iBooks support for auxiliary content (non-linear content documents, in ePub parlance)? Does it do anything special with it (pop-ups, tooltips, side bars, slide-out panels, etc...), or does it just ignore it and lump it in with the rest of the "real" content?
From a cursory glance, it looks like Microsoft has done something similar with their proprietary .LIT ebooks (which are apparently based roughly on the same specs as ePub, i.e. XHTML and CSS). But I get the feeling this functionality has gone the way of multi-angle DVDs, which is to say no one bothers with it.
    2) And my next question comes from having tried various ePub readers on the iPhone. None, but Stanza seem to even get this remotely correct (some completely ignore them, some render them but don't do anything with them, and one attempts to do something with them but spits out errors). I have an ePub that uses footnotes heavily (in the dead-tree version they're footnotes, in the ePub they're essentially endnotes). The ePub in question doesn't have chapters, but it has been broken up into multiple chunks (multiple XHTML content documents behind the scenes). The footnotes are accomplished by linking (and back-linking) a la standard HTML hrefs between said chunks. I assume iBooks is Webkit-based and this isn't a problem at all (i.e. it's just like using a web browser in that regard)? Also, am I correct that there's no "back" button/function except in the TOC?
    3) Based on all the PR and guided-tours, etc..., I presume iBooks strictly conforms to a paginated view? There's no scrolling layout/view, and by extension a way to do auto-scrolling?
    4) How does text-to-speech work? Will it read the whole book, or does it only read, for instance, your current selection?
    Thanks!

It isn't handled by the reader at all. It is handled by the ePUB generating application. Non-linear content, if included, is usually ordered as found, i.e., it uses a left-most, top-to-bottom ordering algorithm. This usually means it ends up at the end unless aligned to the left edge of the source document above the inline content or interspersed between other non-linear and linear segments if also included. To ensure content displays with associated text, it is normally anchored, inline, just before or just after the desired text. Some generating apps indicate an ability to perform left/right alignments with text wrapping around inline images but I have yet to personally try this.
You'll have to excuse my ignorance, Jon, but I barely understand anything you wrote just then. I've only been playing with ePubs for the last several days, so I still have a very limited understanding of the specs, and have only a small collection of samples (which are very simply constructed), so I don't know the full breadth of what's possible in ePub. For instance, in my example ePub, one content document ends at the end of a paragraph, and the next document begins at the start of the next paragraph.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my current understanding of "content documents" are that they're essentially XHTML pages, and the only reason they're broken up inside the container is either for semantic reasons, to reduce initial load times, or to support older readers. And basically a reader will load them sequentially when it comes time to display them (i.e. next chapter, via a link, etc...), assuming in the 'spine' section they're listed as being linear (either explicitly or by default).
The only examples I've seen where a particular 'itemref' has had its 'linear' attribute set to 'no' are things like covers and footnote sections (I believe the IDPF also uses the example of an answerkey in a textbook). I guess it's a two-fold question. I'm having a hard time envisioning what other elements in a book one would want to mark as non-linear. I guess things like a glossary, a table of illustrations, an index, etc... (i.e. stuff that's important to the book, but you wouldn't want to read linearly with the actual content of the book). I should point out I write Windows apps for a living, and have no understanding of how the publishing industry works, or what goes into the making, designing, or laying out a book.
And second, it seems the specs leave it completely up to the reading device to determine what it wants to do with these non-linear documents. Hence, why I asked how iBooks handles them.
You lost me when you started talking about edges, anchoring, and wrapping. To me, that sounds more like formatting decisions one would have to make inside an XHTML document. But I'm always open to being schooled on a subject.
I have an ePub that uses footnotes heavily (in the dead-tree version they're footnotes, in the ePub they're essentially endnotes).
I believe this is essentially correct. Since ePUB files have no defined pages, the footnotes become endnotes the the specific generating application determining if they display at the end of the book or at the end of the chapter. E.g., Since Adobe InDesign requires segments (cover page, title page, chapters, etc.) be generated as independent documents with are later assembled as a "book," I believe its "endnotes" automatically display at the end of the individual documents which make up the book while other applications use inline tags to break up a single "book" document into independent XHTML documents but place all "endnotes" at the end of the "book" rather than within each XHTML document created from the tagged segment where found in the main source document.
From what I've seen in the specs, it makes sense that, with the way the specs are at this time, the onus is on the generator to figure out how to use and where to put the footnotes. Without a standard way of defining them, there's no way for a reader device to know what it's looking at is a footnote or not.
I was just hoping in my heart of hearts that Apple had somehow solved the problem. After all, they were the ones throwing the word "magical" around when describing the iPad.
As a side note, would you know if iBooks properly supports the page-break-before and page-break-after CSS styles?
Based on all the PR and guided-tours, etc..., I presume iBooks strictly conforms to a paginated view? There's no scrolling layout/view, and by extension a way to do auto-scrolling?
I've not found a way to scroll but then I prefer paging through the document with a tap than continuously "swiping" and so have not looked all that hard.
Yeah, not a dealbreaker by any means. Just something I've started playing with on my iPhone reader, and have kinda started to enjoy. But I'll make sure not to get too comfortable with it now.
As for the text-to-speech (which I wouldn't use anyway), I guess it's using the VoiceOver APIs that Apple includes in the SDK(?), and, no, it won't automatically read a whole book for you, but it will read at most a page at a time. Apparently, this is their work-around for the same grief that Amazon got with the Kindle's speech feature.

  • Requirements to publish on iBook Store for non-US residents

I recently applied to publish books on the iBook Store filling out the requested field as suggested by some users for non-US residents.
I still would like to receive some clarifications on the process and the rules governing book publishing for European residents. What are the requirements to publish ?
    The following are my concerns:
Is it allowed to be a personal or legal entity in Europe and publish on the iBook Store ?
Is it required to have a Tax Identification Number in the USA to publish paid editions ?
Is it required to have a USA credit card or bank account ?
What about the USA witholdings required by law for Italy ?
    Thank you for your help
    Stefano

    Hi Stefano
I am replying to this only because no one else have, I am not in Europe but in Canada, so i did experience some obstacles when trying to create my iTunes account. I would assume it would be similar for Europe.  Here are the answers to some of your questions from the Canadian perspective. perhaps they will apply to you as well?
Is it allowed to be a personal or legal entity in Europe and publish on the iBook Store ?I could do either but went with the legal entity
Is it required to have a Tax Identification Number in the USA to publish paid editions ?I did and simply hired a company to get the EIN as it I chose to do it under a corporate name.  It cost $250 and I had the number within 48hrs.
Is it required to have a USA credit card or bank account ?No
What about the USA witholdings required by law for Italy ?Apple is handling the sales taxes for the various countries, it is up to me to look after the corporate taxes
Hope this is a bit helpful to you
