Ibooks search function slow & sluggish after ios8 upgrade

With a large collection of digital books, I have always loved the ipad and ibooks for the simple fact that the search function was by far superior to those offered by other tablet competitors. I upgraded last night, and have immediately found that the search function is now sluggish and lags as i type (was not this way with ios7). I own an ipad air, and I have compared ibooks on my friends ipad gen 3 who is still on ios7 and hers is faster than mine!
What has changed to justify the sluggish feel and speed to what was once a very light and speedy app???

I experience this, too. I wonder whether the iBooks library search now extends to one's iCloud collection, slowing the process If that's it, there should be a configuration option to turn off the "feature."

  • Ipad is sluggish after iOS8 upgrade

MMy ipad2 is very slow, sluggish and choppy after the latest iOS update.  It is almost unusable.  What can I do?

Apple wants you to upgrade your hardware. My iPad3 is doing the same thing. Planned obsolescence, since iPad sales are down and because a well maintained iPad will last seven years. The product is just too well built, so let's artistically choke out the old machines with a new IOS update.

  • Slow processing after ios8 upgradation

After downloading ios8 my iphone 4s processing is affected.   Is it due to operating system...?

    Hi sushilgullu,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the scope of the issues you are describing. If you are having slowness or lagging issues with multiple apps on your iPhone after a recent upgrade to iOS 8, you may want to first try resetting your device:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If you are still having issues after a reset, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persists before restoring your data. You may find the following article helpful:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • After IOS8 upgrade IPhone5s syncs with exchange but IPad2 syncs ONLY Mail and Contacts, NOT Calendar.  Totally stumped. Ideas anyone?

After IOS8 upgrade IPhone5s syncs with exchange but IPad2 syncs ONLY Mail and Contacts, NOT Calendar.
Also, my other tablet - Samsung TabS - has same issue - calendar wont sync. My IPhone and my desktop (windows) synch just fine.
Google calendar syncs on all devices. Totally stumped. Ideas anyone?
    THANKS

    1.      Log onto Outlook Web Access
    2.      Top right hand part of the screen select "Options"
    3.     Select "See All Options"
    4.      Select "Phone" menu
Check if you have 10 Devices registered.
If you have, you need to delete one of them to add your new Smart Phone to Exchange for synching
Check the "Last Sync Time" to indicate if this device is still active or not.

  • Ipad air restarts all of a sudden after ios8 upgrade

Ipad air restarts all of a sudden after ios8 upgrade. Restarted 7-8 times. What should be done?

restored the ipad from itunes, did hard rebbot. Still reboots on its own. Any suggestions.....

  • IBooks crashes after ios8 upgrade

i completed the ios8 upgrade and now IBooks crashes every 5 minutes. How do I fix it or report it?

I'm having the same problem on my iPad Air. iBooks worked fine on iOS 7, but started crashing about 3-5 minutes after launching from the moment I  installed iOS8. The crash seems to happens while iBooks is syncing with iCloud and putting my iPad in flight mode prevents it from happening. Disabling the syncing of bookmarks, notes and collections does not prevent the app from crashing. I've tried restoring my iPad using different backups(including one I made just before the upgrade to iOS 8), but the crashes keep happening.
As this only happens on my iPad and not on my iPhone 5, where I have automatic downloads disabled, I tried disabling automatic downloads. This seemed to prevent a crash only once, but once I tried to download a book manually, the crashes started happening again. I also noticed that any book downloaded after installing iOS 8 doesn't seem to be recognised as a purchased book. If I try to delete it, I only get the "Delete" option for books(which usually only appears for books that weren't purchased from the iBooks store), while I still get both the "Delete From All Devices" and the "Delete This Copy" options for any books downloaded from the store before installing iOS 8. On my iPhone, I still get both these options for any books downloaded after installing iOS 8.
The only thing I found is that there is a JetsamEvent log in the diagnostics & usage data screen at the exact time of each iBooks crash. Each of these listed iBooks as being the largest process.
I hope Apple provide a fix soon, it's a bit disappointing to have to read iBooks on my iPhone instead of the larger screen of my iPad.

    Hello gracia.stephanie,
It may help to force close all open apps, then reset your iPod Touch.

  • Ibook search function failing

Hi I am proofing an ibook on an ipad2 and after incorporating the corrections on a mac, I reloaded the file to iBooks multiple times, using Apples bookproofer 1.0.1. on the mac.
Workflow: Indesign epub unzipped then to dreamweaver xhtml file reconverted to epub using a applescript called epub zip 1.0.3.
I am now finding that the search function is limited to the first three letters of some words.  The search function is not finding whole words, rather only partially finding words in the document.  This is happening for words that are occurring multiple times in teh document, some very simple words ie Tony.  It finds the first three occurrences but not the ones later in the document.
This phenomenon was not occurring when the book was initially installed.  The problem has only been noticed after multiple uploads of the ibook during the proofing process.
Another example of the issue is as follows:
Type or select 'volendam' or 'Volendam' and it finds nothing
Type 'volen' and it finds nothing
Type 'vol' and it finds the first three leters of Volendam (FYI A Dutch fishing village) along with multitude other words like 'volume'.
I have done a reset…reset all settings.  I have deleted the ibook and reinstalled.  I have deleted the ibook app and reinstalled.  Turned of autocorrection autospelling, no joy.
I have loaded the ibook on another ipad2 and the search works correctly – so the issue is this ipad2.  It's not jailbroken.
It doesn't appear to happen in other ibooks, although I haven't had time to fully check.
    Any help appreciated.
    regards
    Di

    Update,
The  problem was overcome by installing the ibook thru itunes and syncing.  It appears no longer as a proof ibook but as an ibook.
    All the searches work correctly.
    regards

No.  Installing RAM doesn't make a computer faster.

Sure, but why pay for that when you can do it yourself.
without upgrading hte memory cna we make this ystem to run faster ?
Have you checked activity monitor to see if any apps or processes are takin up a large percentage of the CPU?

  • Slow Broadband after 21CN Upgrade?

Before my scheduled 21 upgrade my download connection has been rock solid at 8000K for several years.  My whole recent experience with BT has been very disappointing and I hope you can throw some light on a solution.
    So Far:
My Equipment:  BT2000 Faceplate, RJ11 to BT Homehub 1010, 1 Extension fitted (No Bell wire Connected).
Problem 1. Now resolved.  On the day of my appointment the engineer connected my dial tone and broadband to someone else’s line in the next village.  The fault call centre insisted the fault could only be in my property as the line tested OK and I would have to accept the possible charges.  Despite my requests for them to despatch an engineer to the exchange as it is more than a coincidence that my dial tone disappeared at the same time as my scheduled changeover they insisted I have an appointment.  The fault was cleared in the exchange by the visiting engineer.
Problem 2.  Now resolved. The engineer did not remove the call divert on my line and I missed my incoming calls for several days as my calls were diverted to a random number.  I tried #21# and this did not work, so I contacted BT again.  They informed me they could not remove the divert because they had not put it on. After investigation #61# managed to remove my divert.  When I asked why it was not removed when my line was fixed I was told that I must have put the divert on myself as it was done by someone with access to my line. The whole point that my line had been connected elsewhere was totally alien to the call centre worker.
    Problem 3.  On going
After 14 days of Mediocare performance I was connected much slower speed than my old connection and as my profile was 4000k this is only half of my previous performance. (See Below)
    1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download Speed
    5959 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    4000 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 5959 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1200-4000 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :4603 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1251 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 16.4:29.53:54.07 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed

So I call BT again and after I have established that the only changing parameter is the new 21CN upgrade I am promised that a request will be passed to the engineers to increase the profile........  The result is that they just reset my profile, so once again my speed fluctuates for several days from a virtual stop to slow.
It is now six days since reporting my slow speed problems after receiving several calls from BT to ask me if my speed has improved, I am finally a broken man today.
They insist that I have a broadband boost engineer, before I accept this, I ask several questions and failed to get any acceptable answers..
What is wrong with my broadband?  You have a fault in the property (change the record!!)
Why cannot you tell me the speed I am connected at.   You cannot WOOSH test me?  We cannot tell, we have to call you
Can I speak to the engineers?  You cannot Sir
Can I speak to your Boss?  No, why would you want to do that!
What have you done in the exchange to fix my fault?  We have changed some things
Do you thing it is acceptable to still have slow speeds after twenty days?  That's why you need a boost engineer
What are you going to do differently from all the other people I have spoken to to resolve my issue.  Nothing
So with no other option I accept that an appointment will have to be made again.  I am offered an appointment in the week, when I explain that I have business appointments and that I need a weekend appointment I am told none is available or would be available.  So I agree to a Monday appointment.  After the call I get a text to say I have an appointment has been made for Thursday!  So I have to call them back and ask for the appointment I have been promised and I am told it's a simple and easy mistake to press the wrong button, it happens quite often!!
I since read here that it may help to upgrade my homehub, so why have they not sent me a replacement days ago?

I know there are more important things going on in this world.  But my work, my ebay, my shopping, my banking, my social sites etc. all require bandwidth and to have it taken away disguised as an upgrade obviously upsets me.  I am shocked at the complete lack of communications, and the inability to listen and understand your customers.  What is the point of a call centre that can do NOTHING outside their script to help!
    Solved!

Not sure why my profile is still changing and why I was disconnected today, probably the call centre doing another line test.

  • Slow phone after iOS4 upgrade? Try this...

I upgraded my iPhone 3G recently to iOS4, and experienced the general slowdown that others have reported. I also had problems with photos not displaying correctly. I deleted and reimported the photos, and that solved that problem, but the slowness and "lag" was still there.
I came across this tip in the misc.phone.mobile.iphone newsgroup:
    quote
My 3G was quite slow when I first upgraded to iOS4. But I followed some
advice on the Apple Support Forum. A combination of Settings -> General ->
Reset -> Reset All Settings, followed by a full shut down and restart did
    wonders to improve the operation.
    unquote
I haven't seen the source for this tip before so I wanted to pass it on.
Doing the reset as described above doesn't lose data, just some settings (Home screen, WiFi login key, 4 digit lock code etc.), but it has got rid of the lag when switching the phone on, and restored some of the pre-upgrade speed.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

Well, first you say that your phone is slow.  Then you state that your phone told you to remove unused apps.  Did you read my last post?  From what I've read, most phone performance issues are app related.  You either have too many apps running at once (most likely), have a third party app that is causing a problem (less likely), or there is something actually wrong with your phone (least likely).  As I stated, I noticed that my phone was slower than normal after installing OS6.  I was using OS6 just like OS5, but the difference is that the apps in OS6 seem to want to close differently.  So I had like 8 apps open at once, and that was my problem.
The first statement that you make is so vague that no one is going to be able to help you.  When is your phone slow?  What apps are you running during this time?  Do you have excessive apps open?  Is it slow all of the time or just sometimes?  What non BB apps (third party) are you running?  The 9300 also only has 256meg of ram, so that is going to make your application behavior that much more noticeable.
Try holding the ALT key down while pressing the BACK button (the one just to the right of the track pad) and that will show you which applications are running. You should see a minimum of 5 (home, phone, browser, messages, and messenger). If you see more than this, particularly if there apps open that you aren't using, this is likely a big contributor.  Close those apps and see the difference.  Just for fun, do a battery pull.
The second statement that you made is even more confusing because at no point in time would your phone ever tell you to uninstall something.  At least, not that I can think of.  What do you mean when you say the phone asked you to remove unused apps?

I must admit that before upgrade my bb was rock stable no problems at all ofc some minor dissconections occured during a 4 year period but it happens right? But after the Exchange upgrade my broadband is awfully slow it's almost like dial-up connection, i can't even do my work from home or use internet services which i've paid for upfront.
I've posted on forums recently i was told to leave my hub on 24/7 for few days, and it should solve my problem, since the line need to settle down after the updrade. But it's already 6th day after the upgrade and nothing changed .... well almost nothing ...

im very happy cuz finally i can send files to my employer faster also uploading stuff for my private use/backup is easier now but what the **bleep** is with downstream speed? i can understand that setting up new exchange equipment can take some time, same goes for stabilization of the line but how long do i need to have to wait till i'll get what i'm paying for?

  • Slower download after network upgrade

    Hi,
I received an email from BT stating the following:
Good news. We’re rolling out our faster broadband and we’ll be upgrading our network in your area on 06-Aug-10. This’ll make the things you do online quicker.
Before the upgrade I was achieving a connection speed of approx. 7000/448 kbps. A few days after the upgrade I did see a brief improvement of around 7700/872 kbps. However for the last week or so I seem to be firmly planted at 5463/782 kbps.
Is there anything I should do to improve this?

  • My Ipad2 is hardly working anymore after IOS8 upgrade

I cannot hardly use my Ipad2/32GB/3G after the IOS8 upgrade. It takes for ever now to do anything on it.
IF you cannot find any new features at all that gives anything extra then do not upgrade !

The most aggravating problem I've had with iOS 8 on my iPad 3 (New) and my iPhone 4S has to do with powering on and off. I called Apple tech support to help solve the problem but since it was the first day iOS 8 rolled out they hadn't had my particular problem. In short my tablet (and phone) will either turn itself off and won't turn back on immediately or, as what happened while I was on the phone with tech support, I tried powering down my tablet and then tried to turn it back on but all that would happen, continuously for about 20-30 minutes!, was the Apple would appear as if it was starting up then it would shut itself off again then the Apple would come back then turn off, and over and over and over again. I had it plugged into my pc to run a diagnostic but it kept doing what I just described then, out of the blue, the tablet turned on without fanfare. Unfortunately it seemed the only fix was...the factory reset. I HATE resetting because it's such a hassle putting all of my apps back where they're supposed to be. For whatever reason my iPhone didn't give me as much problem but if either device freezes up and I try to turn either off then back on it takes close to 30 minutes at times for them to turn back on. The other problem I'm seeing is both iOS devices are getting incredibly hot, iPad moreso but the iPhone can get incredibly hot as well.

  • Mac Mail is sluggish after Yosemite upgrade, does anyone know why or what to do?

Hi, I recently upgraded to Yosemite and have hated my mac mail ever since. I have noticed that my mac mail is extremely sluggish and I have had to re-start my mac multiple times.
It seems that everything else is working like usual, and I have read some similar forums and have tried re-indexing and re-building my mail boxes, but so far nothing has changed.
    Any thoughts?

You restart your Mac because Mail is sluggish, not for any other reason? And is it still sluggish after the restart?
