Ibooks store is only free books - all ancient classics

I can access the ibook site on my ipad, but all it displays is free books - mostly ancient classics.
How do I get books with a price? New books! I have an itunes account, as I have purchased many apps, so they must know who I am and who to send the bill to.
What is the problem here?

But I'll want content with I'm in Bolivia (where I spend much of my time).
Will they block that?
I don't think so. My problem was that I registered with the Belgian iBooks site - which apparently has no copyright agreements yet. Had I just left my account in the UK, I would have been OK (but I closed my UK bank account). I am in France now, and happily browsing books on the UK store using a UK bank.
But this all seems a bit odd.
If I log onto the UK Amazon site, they do not care where my bank account is. Likewise with Lulu. So why does Apple get all exited about matching your address with a bank account from the same country and only logging on to that country's iBook site??
It is a nonsense, in this day and age.
And it means that no Belgian or Dutch iPad users can buy any books yet, unless they can find a UK bank or credit card. That is just plain mad. Who do Apple want to stop customers buying their products, and enjoying their hardware fully???

  • US iBooks Store should have access to ALL books worldwide

The US is very rich in cultures. For instance it has a very big Latin American population. The iBooks store should have access to the Spanish books sold in Spanish countries so that this portion of US citizens can read books in their native language. The same goes for every other culture in the US. That's why I'm saying that the US iBooks Store should have access to ALL the libraries in the world of iBooks Stores. Thanks.

To expand on Tamara's answer a little, the publishing industry (books, music, movies, etc) is not a world-wide monolith. Each country has its own copyright laws which sometimes are quite different from even countries bordering it. This has led to publishers having many subsidiaries and/or working agreements with local publishers. A British author doesn't need to have his/her work translated (which adds its own copyright issues to the meld) but still will require both a US and a UK publisher for the book to be published in both countries. It isn't just a simple matter of lots of books being printed and then shipping some of them across the ocean.
This mess has existed for a very long time and Apple can't just wave a wand and make it go away.

  • Why does my ibook display only free book?

I noticed my ibook app only display free books. Could this be because my apple ID was registered under Malaysia?

Apple can only sell content in iBooks that the publishers have allowed them to - if they havn't been granted permission then they can only 'sell' free content. So if you are in one of those countries where there is only free content then you will need to buy and use a different ebook content provider (the terms of use of the stores say you can only purchase/download from your own country's stores). Do you have Kindle (Amazon), Nook, or other ebook retailers in your country ?

  • Only free Books ??

i have an apple id set for egypt with a Visa payment, and i can only see free books on ibooks store ? i want to buy some books. thanks in advance

Not all countries can purchase books yet from the ibookstore.   Instead try Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or Googlebooks stores (they have free readers for iOS devices).

  • I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?

I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?
Let me explain a little more. I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.
This is exactly how I think this feature should work. If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).
The iOS app is working differently for me. Here is a picture of the purchased tab on the iBooks store in iOS Ibooks. Again notice that pictures of Lilly is still yet to be downloaded. This is how I expected it to look.
If we visit the front page of iOS iBooks the view is very different from what I expected. Here we can see the 4 books I wanted to keep on my device and have downloaded. We can also see the 1 book I wanted to keep, but did not want to store locally on the device and left in iCloud (Pictures of Lilly). However we can also see all the books I had hidden from the purchased section of my iTunes account and which I believe should no-longer be visible, Dracula, frankenstein etc…
I am aware of the hide iCloud books button within the iOS app, but I did not need to use this to hide the books I had removed from the my purchased section of the iBooks store on the mac, why are they still appearing in iOS?
I’m still not sure if this is a software glitch or not. This article suggests to me that books can be hidden, but I had already completed these steps.
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201322
A browse of google also suggests people may have been able to hide past purchases from the front page of iBooks on iOS in the past.
In case there was an issue with syncing I tried logging in and out of my iTunes account via settings in iOS. Force closing the app, disabling automatic downloads and removing my device from iTunes in the cloud. Syncing with iTunes on the mac did not correct the issue either.
Interestingly I have the same issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3 as I do on my iPad mini suggesting that this might be an issue either with my account or with iOS iBooks software in general.
If there is a way to remove the already hidden iBooks in your account from the front page of iBooks on iOS without using the hide iCloud downloads button? Please help community!

My apologies for the lack of photos, here is my post again with photos.

  • How can I make my book being displayed on iBooks Store?

    Hi,
I can search for my book on the iBooks Store by the book title, subtitle, author name, or ISBN, but I want  my book to be shown on Books<Children's Fiction>Paid category when I go to the page of iBooks Store.
Apple said "Not all books are listed in the Browse section because of technical restrictions. A maximum of 6,000 books are listed in each category of the Browse section at one time."
Is there some kind of condition to display books like sales, reviews, etc?

iBA is iPad only. For both iPhone & iPad, make an epub, instead. Pages will output that for you.

  • HT4059 Hi, I'm trying to purchase a book from the iBooks store but when I open the app and go to open store it does not go to the library

I'm not able to open the iBooks library

    Hello there, Summerrys.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews how to access the store from iBooks:
iBooks: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about iBooks and the iBooks Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4059
How do I access the iBooks Store?
An Internet connection is required. On iOS devices, iBooks includes the iBooks Store. Tap the iBooks icon and your bookshelf appears. In the upper corner, tap the Store button and the bookshelf flips around to reveal the iBooks Store. From the iBooks Store, you can browse books by title, author, or genre. You can also view featured books as well as books available on the New York Times bestseller lists (United States only). Tap on a book to see more details and download a free sample. When you buy a book, it will automatically appear on your iBooks bookshelf.
If you are using the iOS 7 app, you may want to try some of the recommended steps in the following Knowledge Base article for troubleshooting the application:
    iOS: Understanding multitasking
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4211
If an app doesn't respond to your input, or doesn't perform as expected, do the following, testing after each step:
    Check for app updates.
    Force the app to close.
    Restart your device.
    Update your iOS device.

In some countries there are currently only free books available - Apple can sell books where the publishers have granted them licenses to do so (what you can buy where). Do you have access to other ebook apps/stores ?

  • Free Books at the iTunes Store

    Hi,
I have some questions to open (free books):
    1. It is planned, that the iTunes Store will support free Books like Podcasts today?
2a. Or do i need a publisher in every case?
2b. If i need a publisher, which publisher supported free books and is still in contract with Apple?
    Thank you and
    best regards
    Oelauge

    1. It is planned, that the iTunes Store will support free Books like Podcasts today?
iTunes (i.e., the iBooks app iBookstore) currently supports a number of free books. These books are ePub digital books from the Project Gutenberg collection and can be downloaded directly in the iBooks app or downloaded from the Project Gutenberg web site itself and dropped/imported to the iTunes "Books" area for syncing to an iPad. These free books represent topics from Greek philosophy to the Complete Works of Shakespeare to public domain SciFi short stories and anything in between. (If you don't have an iPad yet, simply go to the Project Gutenberg site and browse what is currently available in the ePub format.)
2a. Or do i need a publisher in every case? ... 2b. If i need a publisher, which publisher supported free books and is still in contract with Apple?
No. Don't know of any established Apple "partners" specializing in "free" content but neither can I say you won't find something from any of them offered as a "teaser." However, I believe some authors may, at times, offer samples/examples of their work as free offerings through online digital publishing sites but have no personal experience in this area.

  • IBooks store for New Zealand Big disappointment

The only thing I am not happy with regarding my iPad is the iBook store. I'm assuming it's just the New Zealand one, but there are only free books. No best sellers like I was expecting. Is a huge let down as it was a big reason I bought it. Anyone know why this is?

Licensing rights are really difficult to negotiate. Unfortunately, there isn't a unified world licensing system, it has to be done country by country. I don't know if you were around, but I think the NZ version of the iTunes store followed the US version by 5 years, give or take. Even here in the US, there are lots of publishers missing.
If I were you, I'd download the Kindle App, and browse Amazon's selections. They have a much larger selection and more publishers. And, in many cases, lower prices. They have a 3 year head start on licensing. Of course, Kindle in NZ won't be available until late August, so you may not have access to the app.
Anyways, this is a bummer for a lot of countries. This will change over time as agreements are signed, one by one.

  • Problem with ibook store

in the ibook store i select a book and then select author page.  I then get an error that says the search cannot be completed on my device.  I use the store and this functionality regullarly and have never had this problem before.  I have updated to the latest os version

Most ebooks from other sites are DRM protected and will be VERY difficult, if impossible to import into iBooks to read.  While you can save PDF's and read them via iBooks, for the most part iBooks is a store where you buy books and then read them from your library.  Just like Kindle or Nook.  You can't buy a book from iBooks and read it on he Kindle App or Nook App and you can't buy a book from the Kindle App or Nook App and read it on iBooks.

  • Is there any  George Martin's "A song of ice and fire" series in canadian ibook store??

i ve searching this 4 a long time, but it seems that there r no "a song of ice and fire" series in canadian ibook store, unfortunately only in U.S. one. when is it going to be published in canadian ones?

I doubt if anybody here will know if/when they will be available in Canada - it's up to the distributor/copyright holder to make them available to Apple to sell in a particular country, and until they do so Apple can't sell them there. Have you looked for them in other ebook stores/apps e.g. Amazon's Kindle, Nook etc ?

  • HT4059 Switching between US and UK iBooks stores

I'm in the uk and switched to the us iBooks store to review a book but can't buy as my account isn't valid apparently for use in the US store. Now I can't switch back to the uk store. Can anyone tell me how to switch back?

FYI, you cannnot use other countries itunes stores.
Open itunes store, scroll to the bottom.  Click the flag in the bottom right corner.
    Select your country

See no free iBooks except old fiction. Why is this so. Please advise on how to find and use correctly.

What country are you in ? (This page shows what content types are available where.) Some countries currently only have free books, to be able to sell recent/current books in a particular country the publisher's need to grant Apple a license to do so. Have you got access to other ebook apps/stores in your country ?

  • How to list English-only books in iBooks store?

In the ibooks store, does anyone know if a setting exists that would filter out all foreign language titles? For example, if I search for an author, when their bibliography appears, a lot of foreign language titles are included that I am not interested in. Is there any way to set the iBooks store to return English only titles?

Read the FAQ.  Yes you do need a tax id.
