IC Web Inbox and inheritance

Dear expert
In our org. model, we have one main org. unit and several org. units branched beneath (sub-structure).
When an incoming email is 'unprocessed', it can be seen by all users assigned under the main org. unit or under the org. units branched beneath. But if the email is 'in process' or 'completed', then only people within the same group can see the emails. Is it an error of the system or something is missing in the configuration?
We are using CRM 5.0 and the IC Web Inbox to process incoming emails.
Thanks a lot in advance
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
Here the solution can be in Authorization object.
In CRM we have authorization object which gives individual users for accessing various components. This is maintained in Transction SU21.
In your case also there might have been a setting made which only allows email is 'in process' or 'completed', then only people within the same group can see the emails.
Check for that.
Regards,
Pranay

  • Schedule webi report to destination to Inbox AND send email notification

    I'm writing a new process that will schedule a webi report.  The output of the report needs to be delivered to multiple user's BO Inboxes AND an email notification (without the report attached) needs to be sent telling them that they have a new report to view in their Inbox.  Trying to mimic how this is done via CMC Schedule - Notification and Destination tabs.
    I can get it to deliver the report to the Inbox and I can get it to send an email seperately, but the problem I'm running into is that I can't get it to do both in the same process.  Here is the code snippet that I've written.  Any assistance would be appreciated.
    // Retrieve the managed plugin
    IInfoObjects managedInfoObjects = infoStore.query("Select SI_DEST_SCHEDULEOPTIONS, SI_PROGID From CI_SYSTEMOBJECTS Where SI_NAME = 'CrystalEnterprise.Managed'");
    IInfoObject infoObject = (IInfoObject)managedInfoObjects.get(0);

    IManaged managed = (IManaged)destinationPlugin;
    // Set the destination to inbox
    IManagedOptions managedOptions = (IManagedOptions)managed.getScheduleOptions();
    managedOptions.setDestinationOption(IManagedOptions.CeDestinationOption.ceInbox);
    managedOptions.setSendOption(IManagedOptions.CeManagedSendOption.ceCopy);
    managedOptions.setIncludeInstance(true);
    managedOptions.getDestinations().add(new Integer(ditUserID1));
    managedOptions.getDestinations().add(new Integer(ditUserID2));

    smtpOptions.setSubject("Indicative Data Update Reports");
    smtpOptions.getToAddresses().add("XXXXX.com");
    smtpOptions.setMessage("Test Message");
    smtpOptions.setSMTPAuthenticationType(CeSMTPAuthentication.NONE);
    scheduleInfo.getNotifications().getDestinationsOnFailure().add("New");

    One thing to keep in mind is that "scheduling to SMTP" is different from "scheduling with email notification", and it looks like you're conflating the two.  The ISchedulingInfo.getDestinations() is the access point for scheduling to SMTP and ISchedulingINfo.getNotifications() is the access point for scheduling with Notification.
    > scheduleInfo.getNotifications().getDestinationsOnFailure().add("New");
    You'd add the SI_PROGID of the SMTP Destination here, and work with the returned IDestination to set the destination parameters.

  • Emails are only being delivered to the WebOutlook inbox and not my desktop outlook

    1.  Big Problem:  How do I get emails sent to my primary email address (name @ wealthblush dot com hosted by Go Daddy) to go to both the
    Outlook Web App inbox AND the inbox of my desktop Outlook 2013? They only go to
    Outlook Web App and not my desktop Outlook 2013.
    How is the email account configured in Outlook (POP3, IMAP or Exchange):
    POP/SMTP is for the user @ wealthblush dot com - this is the one where the email ONLY goes to the Outlook Web App, but not into Desktop Outlook 2013.
    IMAP/SMTP  is for the user @ charter dot net email. Emails go to both clients, but if I delete on one client it is not deleted on the other.
    Exchange/ActiveSync is the outlook.com email and it only goes to my desktop Outlook.
    I'm not getting any error messages. Mail is being delivered to the user @ wealthblush dot com, but only to Outlook Web App and NOT my desktop Outlook.
    2.  How can I change the inbox an email account puts incoming emails into? I read somewhere the way to do this is to create a search folder? This question is actually in advance of fixing
    question number 1 above.
    3.   I don't know how I should configure my emails with the new Outlook 2013 now being in the cloud:
        - I have an @ outlook dot com email I setup when MS came out with the free outlook dot com (hotmail), but I never used it because the reminders didn't work the same as in desktop outlook (not being able to snooze for a few hours
    or days or weeks if I remember right and the way we get the alerts too).
        - I also have an email with my ISP (@ charter dot net) which is a mix of personal and business emails. I've had this account for over 10 years.
        - Finally, I have a business website (www dot wealthblush dot com) hosted by GoDaddy with one real email @ wealthblush dot com. I've already setup the aliases for several other emails in my new office 365 account (support,
    sales, webmaster at wealthblush dot com) which are configured to pass into specific folders using Outlook 2013 Rules in my desktop outlook. I'm not sure if those rules are replicated into the office 365 account.
    I still want the aliases to go into those folders like before.
    4.  In the case of my outlook.com email, they do go to both inboxes (on the web and desktop), but when I delete an email from one place, shouldn't it get deleted in the other place as well? How do I get them to synch?
    5.   And then there's my existing .pst files. I have 4 of them with old emails I've saved over the years that takes up just over one GB. I save these .pst files to DVD everyday so I can go back to look at something if I need to (and for hard drive
    crashes). Does MS want me to import all that stuff to their servers and get rid of my .pst files? Does MS want me to put everything into one .pst file? It seems like it? If I do then I assume things need to be synchronized all the time between my file and
    your .pst file? The synchronization process is as close as you can get to real-time, right? Or does each individual change get sent as it happens?
    6.  I also have a skydrive account from a while ago too. Is this where I should put my documents so they're accessible when I'm not at my desk? Now, that would be a LOT of data (probably close to 80 GB). Or, is the intention for us users
    to only put certain current docs in this area. I assume these files can be synced with my desktop too, right? But I don't know how to. Do you keep old versions of the files in skydrive so we can recover them? I want to know if I can use your service to hold
    my files (they would ONLY exist on your system and you'll back them up and I can get old versions back when needed).
    7.  Is an option to keep everything on my desktop 2013 like I did in 2010 of Outlook, bypassing the cloud and MS mail servers all together?
    Sorry about all the questions, but I'm just getting the feel for your approach and need to decide how this all should fit together, do it, then go back to my business. I'm by myself at my company right now, but I'm planning on hiring a few people
    real soon too so I need to keep this in mind. I've worked with Outlook since it came out, and I've configured it, but mainly only for myself and my family.

  • TS2755 Messages disappear in inbox.  When I close out messenger entirely and reopen it, they appear.  Also, if I only have one message unread in my inbox and I open up my messenger it automatically opens the unread message.  Very frustrating....Please hel

    I have an iphone 4s, OS 4.1.1.  I am having issues with my messenger.  When I have a message open I will see a new text come through and then it disappears.  I have to close out of my messenger entirely and reopen it.  Once I reopen the message the text reappears.  Any suggestions?  Also, if I get a new message and there is only one unopened message in my inbox and I open my messenger it automatically opens that message.  Any way to fix this so that I decide when I want to open a certain message?
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    Jen

    There are several possible reasons that messages seem to 'disappear'.
    There are two types of email accounts: IMAP and POP. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/glossary-terms-including-types-accounts
    If you have a POP account and are accessing the mail on more than one computer or smartphone, whichever device reads (downloads) the message first will have it locally, but it will no longer be listed or available on the other devices.
    If you have an IMAP account, the message stays on the server, but if one device (user) moves or deletes the message, it will affect the view on all devices. So, for example, if you are using your smartphone and take some action on an email, when you get back to your computer, it will reflect that same action (but you might not have realized what caused it).
    Sometimes the index of a mail folder (.msf) will get corrupted. If you right click on the name of the folder and select Properties, a 'Folder Properties' window will open. Select 'Repair Folder'. This may take care of the problem.
    Another, less likely, reason for messages not to show up in your inbox is having the preference set to show only unread or recent messages. Then once you read them they seem to disappear.
    If you are still having problems, please look at the following items and respond with the information.
    1) What operating system do you use (Win8, MAC, Linux, etc)?
    2) Are you using IMAP or POP?
    3) If your mail server has a browser interface (web mail access such as mail.google.com), do the messages show up there?
    4) Right click on the folder in question and select Properties.
    a) Number of messages?
    b) Size on disk?
    5) Left click on the account name; View settings for this account; highlight Server settings;
    What choices are marked under "When I delete a message"?
    6) What, if any, antivirus program do you have installed?

  • Exchange IMAP Inbox and selected sub folders not displaying correctly

    Hi All,
    I hope you can help me with the following issue:
    We are running MS Exchange 2003 with IMAP. Normally I connect from my Mac to the mail server (using IMAP), everything worked fine until two days ago. I began with a few messages not showing up in the inbox folder while I confirmed their existence via Outlook Web Access and Outlook running in my Virtual Machine. Following an advice I dig out in the forums (moving Mail folder and re-importing all messages) it got kind of worse, my inbox did not show up at all while OWA and Outlook still correctly display all messages. Same goes for a few of the user created folders, though most of them load correctly. I cannot identify any system why some folders display correct and others do not.
    As far as I am aware I have followed all the advices in the forums (well, at least those I've found).
    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    equinox

    I have set up a new MacBook with the exact same details as I used on previous Pbk and on iMac 24 at work.
    I can't receive/see anything in IMAP inbox on MacBook. I can send from the account ok.
    I have set-up another white MacBook now and it has the very same issue. The only common difference is that the previous Pbk and the intel iMac operate 10.4 while the two MacBooks are on 10.5.6.
    Is there a known issue with 10.5 and Mail/IMAP?
    EDIT:
    From looking at posts further back, I see that yes, there is a big ongoing problem with Mail and IMAP. But is there particularly an issue with 10.5?
    BTW, POP works fine, using IMAP simply results in no incoming mail at all.

  • Inbox Doesn't Show New Mail Until I Click Out of Inbox and Click Back In

    Hello, I originally posted this in the Microsoft Community, but I was told to post here instead. HELP!!! Nobody I know seems to have an answer for this.
    I have Outlook 2010 connected to Exchange (work email). Whenever I get new mail, I have to click out of the Inbox and then click back in, in order to see and open my new mail. I do receive the pop-up notification in the lower right hand corner, and
    I receive the "(1)" notification next to "Inbox" on the left side menu (that's how I know when I have new mail), but no actual email shows in the Reading/Window Pane. It's like I have to refresh my Inbox.
    The problem does not exist with any of my Inbox subfolders - only the Inbox itself.
    When I had my department help desk remote in, the problem ceased (making me sound crazy), but when the technician logged off remote access, boom, the problem was back.
    I've searched the internet, contacted my help desk multiple times, and deleted and re-created my Outlook profile, but nothing has worked so far.
    Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated, as this problem is a pain!

    Hi,
    Please check whether you can see the items in your Inbox using Online mode or Outlook Web Access or Outlook Web App (OWA). If you just cannot see them in your Cached mode profile, please start Outlook using the following command-line (Click
    Start and then click Run) to have a try:
    Outlook.exe /cleanips
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2330226
    If it doesn’t work, please change a new computer to have a try.

  • Web services and basic auth

    Hi,
    I'm trying to set up a web service that should use basic authentication as security solution. I've used the admin console to define security policies and left the 'Check roles and Policies for' in 'Web applications and EJBs protected in DD' for my default realm.
    The security policy is set on the application inherited by the EJB and web service module.
    All is well when accessing the web services from a Java client but when I try to access them from a .Net client I get an '401: Unauthorized' response.
    If I change the 'Check roles and Policies for' setting to 'All Web applications and EJBs' the .Net client works but the Java client doesn't work anymore (it can't access the WSDL-file that it needs).
    I've tried to set up authorization settings in the web.xml for the web service module but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
    I use the WebLogic 8.1SP5 Server.

    What is VB?
    I know about J2ME, J2SE, J2EE, JMS, JNDI, JSP, JDBC, JAX-RPC, JAXP, JAXR, JAXM, JMX, JMI, JAF, JPDA and several other acronyms but I've never heard of VB.

  • Both inbox and outbox from Gmail ends up in my gmail/pop/mail inbox

    Both inbox and outbox from Gmail ends up in my gmail/pop/mail inbox; how to resolve?
    - So: the mail I send via gmail comes also in my inbox of mail in which I use the gmail pop account.
    Please help!

    This is a Gmail issue. Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
    3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
    4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
    5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
    6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
    7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you can configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?, i.e. by typing “recent:” (including the colon but not the quotes) at the beginning of the User Name field (not in the Email Address field) in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages.

  • Emails sent to me are sometime returned to the sender with the message "Inbox full" even though I have maybe less than 100 emails in the Inbox and I regularly compact them. How can I increase the storage space?

    Question
    Emails sent to me are sometime returned to the sender with the message "Inbox full" even though I have maybe less than 100 emails in the Inbox and I regularly compact them. I delete emails from the Inbox and the Sent and Trash boxes to overcome this. How can I increase the storage space to stop this happening?

    Hi terrybohle1938,
    Firefox is a web browser. It provides access to online content. Things like your email are handled by the content provider. Who is your email provider? You'll have better luck consulting their documentation.
    That being said, deleting only email is a great way to free up space. Another option would be to purchase a "Premium" account if your email provider offers this service. Many times more storage space is offered as part of paid subscription.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Cisco Unity Connection : Web Inbox

    Hi
    We are using Cisco Unity Connection (Ver 8.5.1ES47.12900-47), we have configured a Web Inbox manually for a User. It was working fine till yesterday , but from yesterday when the user logs in the Web Inbox the browser window just shows that its loading (Please see the attached screenshot) and nothing happens. We have reset the password of the Web Inbox user thinking that its encountering a known Bug, but it did not fix the issue.
    We tried logging in with IE 11, Firefox and Chrome, we restarted the Cisco Tomcat service, but it still did not fix the issue. Please see the attached screen-shot for the error encountered.
    Your inputs to resolve this issue are appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ram.

    Its most likely a compatibility issue. IE 11 is not supported for WebInbox with CUC 8.5,
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/compatibility/matrix/cucclientmtx.html
    If you still face issue, you can open a TAC case. This will require detailed log analysis.

  • Vocabulary for web design and beyond

    Anyone tackling web design will encounter dozens of unfamiliar terms. I have compiled together this glossary to help them. I may update and expand in the future. Until then, feel free to use or pass along.
    Some of these terms don’t relate strictly to web design, but also to computer graphics and computer programming generally, as I’ve found that such terms are also important to reading and understanding any tutorials or other materials on web design.
    Asynchronous (1) General use. Not synchronous; not occurring or existing at the same time or having the same period or phase. (2) Digital communication. Pertaining to a transmission technique that does not require a common clock between the communicating devices; timing signals are instead derived from special characters in the data stream.
    Bitmap image Image that uses geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes, which are all based on mathematical equations. In a bitmap image, each pixel on a display screen is assigned at least one bit to indicate whether the pixel should reflect the background color, the foreground color, or some other color. each pixel in the bitmap might have 16, 24, or 48 bits of information associated with it. The more bits, the greater the resolution of the bitmap – and the larger the file. Compare Vector image.
    C (programming language) General-purpose computer programming language developed in 1972 by Dennis Ritchie at the Bell Telephone Laboratories for use with the Unix operating system. It was designed for implementing system software and is also widely used for developing portable application software. C has greatly influenced many other popular programming languages, most notably C++, which began as an extension to C.
    C++ Statically typed, free-form, multi-paradigm, compiled, general-purpose programming language. It was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup starting in 1979 at Bell Labs as an enhancement to the C language and originally named C with Classes. It was renamed C++ in 1983.
    Cache Component that transparently stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster. The data that is stored within a cache might be values that have been computed earlier or duplicates of original values that are stored elsewhere. If requested data is contained in the cache (cache hit), this request can be served by simply reading the cache, which is comparatively faster. Otherwise (cache miss), the data has to be recomputed or fetched from its original storage location, which is comparatively slower.
    Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) Style sheet language used to describe the presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML, but the language can also be applied to any kind of XML document, including SVG and XUL.
    ColdFusion Programming language based on standard HTML that is used to write dynamic webpages. It allows for the creation of pages that differ depending on user input, database lookups, time of day, or other criteria. ColdFusion pages consist of standard HTML tags together with CFML (ColdFusion Markup Language) tags such as <CFQUERY>, <CFIF> and <CFLOOP>. ColdFusion was introduced by Allaire in 1996, acquired by Macromedia in a merger in April 2001, and acquired by Adobe in December 2005.
    Compound selector Can be used to combine two or more style rules to create a style definition that displays only when one style is contained within another. Compound styles are useful when you want to do something like use the Heading 1 tag multiple times to format headlines in different ways on the same web page. For example, you could create one style for headlines that appear in the main story area of a page and then create another style for headlines that appear in the sidebar on the page and still use the Heading 1 tag to format both. Compound styles are created by combining ID, class, or tag styles and look like this: #sidebar h1.
    Contextual selector A type of Style Sheet Selector that
    CRE Loaded Open source online store management and shopping cart system for e-commerce from Chain Reaction eCommerce. It is based on osCommerce, runs on any LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) web server, and is supported by an active international community of users and developers. For a monthly subscription ($10/mo. as of 2011), CRE Loaded allows small and medium-sized merchants to accept credit card payments in a web site that mirrors their own online stores.
    CSS See Cascading Style Sheet.
    Dynamic HTML (DHTML) Umbrella term for a collection of technologies used together to create interactive and animated web sites by using a combination of a static markup language (such as HTML), a client-side scripting language (such as JavaScript), a presentation definition language (such as CSS), and the Document Object Model. DHTML allows scripting languages to change variables in a web page's definition language, which in turn affects the look and function of otherwise “static” HTML page content, after the page has been fully loaded and during the viewing process.
    ECMA International International membership-based non-profit standards organization for information and communication systems.
    ECMAScript Scripting language standardized by Ecma International in the ECMA-262 specification and ISO/IEC 16262. The language is widely used for client-side scripting on the web, in the form of several well-known dialects such as JavaScript, JScript, and ActionScript.
    Extensible HyperText Markup Language (XHTML) Family of XML markup languages that mirror or extend versions of the widely used HTML, the language in which web pages are written. While HTML (prior to HTML5) was defined as an application of Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), a very flexible markup language framework, XHTML is an application of XML, a more restrictive subset of SGML. Because XHTML documents need to be well-formed, they can be parsed using standard XML parsers—unlike HTML, which requires a lenient HTML-specific parser.
    Extensible Markup Language Set of rules for encoding documents in machine-readable form. It is defined in the XML 1.0 Specification produced by the W3C, and several other related specifications, all gratis open standards. Its design goals emphasize simplicity, generality, and usability over the Internet. It is a textual data format with strong support via Unicode for the languages of the world. Known by its acronym XML.
    HTML See HyperText Markup Language.
    Hypermedia Graphics, audio, video, plain text and hyperlinks that intertwine to create a generally non-linear medium of information. This contrasts with the broader term multimedia, which may be used to describe non-interactive linear presentations as well as hypermedia. The World Wide Web is a classic example of hypermedia, whereas a non-interactive cinema presentation is an example of standard multimedia due to the absence of hyperlinks.
    Hypertext Text displayed on a computer or other electronic device with references (hyperlinks) to other text that the reader can immediately access, usually by a mouse click or keypress sequence.
    Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) Predominant markup language and basic building-block of webpages. It is written in the form of HTML elements consisting of tags, enclosed in angle brackets (like <html>), within the web page content. HTML tags normally come in pairs like <h1> and </h1>. The first tag in a pair is the start tag, the second tag is the end tag (they are also called opening tags and closing tags). Known by its acronym HTML.
    Hypertext preprocessor (PHP) Widely used, general-purpose scripting language that was originally designed for web development to produce dynamic web pages. It brings life to websites by communicating with external data sources, such as databases, news feeds, and XML documents. PHP code is embedded into the HTML source document and interpreted by a web server with a PHP processor module, which generates the web page document. PHP 3 was launched in 1998; PHP 4 was released in 2000; and PHP 5 was released in 2005.
    Java Programming language released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems' Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode (class file) that can run on any Java Virtual Machine (JVM) regardless of computer architecture. Java is a general-purpose, concurrent, class-based, object-oriented language that is specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It is intended to let application developers "write once, run anywhere". Java is currently one of the most popular programming languages in use, and is widely used from application software to web applications.[
    JavaScript Implementation of the ECMAScript language standard and is typically used to enable programmatic access to computational objects within a host environment. It can be characterized as a prototype-based object-oriented scripting language that is dynamic, weakly typed and has first-class functions.
    JPEG Commonly used method of Lossy compression for digital photography that was named after the Joint Photographic Experts Group, which created the standard. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.
    Linux Family of Unix-like computer operating systems using the Linux kernel (central OS component). Linux can be installed on a wide variety of computer hardware, ranging from mobile phones, tablet computers and video game consoles, to mainframes and supercomputers. The development of Linux is one of the most prominent examples of free and open source software collaboration; typically all the underlying source code can be used, freely modified, and redistributed, both commercially and non-commercially, by anyone under licenses such as the GNU General Public License.
    Lossy compression Data encoding method which discards (loses) some of the data, in order to achieve its goal, with the result that decompressing the data yields content that is different from the original, though similar enough to be useful in some way. Lossy compression is most commonly used to compress multimedia data (audio, video, still images), especially in applications such as streaming media and internet telephony. By contrast, lossless compression is required for text and data files, such as bank records, text articles, etc.
    MySQL Relational database management system that runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of databases. The MySQL development project has made its source code available under the terms of the GNU General Public License, as well as under a variety of proprietary agreements. Acronym for “My Structured Query Language.”
    Open source Describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product's source materials. Before the term open source became widely adopted, developers and producers used a variety of phrases to describe the concept; open source gained hold with the rise of the Internet, and the attendant need for massive retooling of the computing source code.
    osCommerce Open source Commerce. It allows store owners to setup, run, and maintain their online stores with minimum effort and with no costs involved. Combines open source solutions to provide a free and open development platform, which includes the PHP web scripting language, the Apache web server, and the MySQL database server. With no restrictions or special requirements, osCommerce can be installed on any PHP3 or PHP4 enabled web server, on any environment that PHP and MySQL supports, which includes Linux, Solaris, BSD, and Microsoft Windows environments.
    PHP See Hypertext preprocessor.
    Rasterization The process of converting a Vector image into a Bitmap image.
    Rasterize See Rasterization.
    Shopping cart software Software used in e-commerce to assist people making purchases online. The software allows online shopping customers to accumulate a list of items for purchase. Upon checkout, the software typically calculates a total for the order, including shipping and handling (i.e. postage and packing) charges and the associated taxes.
    Style sheet selector One of the two parts of a CSS rule (the other being the properties, or declaration block) that declares which of the markup elements a style applies to. Selectors may apply to all elements of a specific type, or only those elements that match a certain attribute (e.g., how they are placed relative to each other in the markup code, or on how they are nested within the document object model). There are many types of style sheet selectors: element selectors, which select by element name; class selectors, which select by class name; contextual selectors, which select by context based on parent elements (what the element is nested within or what precedes it in the document), etc..
    Supercomputer Computer that is at the frontline of current processing capacity, particularly speed of calculation. Supercomputers are typically one-of-a-kind custom designs produced by companies such as Cray, IBM and Hewlett-Packard, who had purchased many of the 1980s companies to gain their experience. Since October 2010, the Tianhe-1A supercomputer, located in China, has been the fastest in the world.
    Tag Non-hierarchical keyword or term assigned to a piece of information (such as an Internet bookmark, digital image, or computer file). This kind of metadata helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching. Tags are generally chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, depending on the system. HTML tags include paragraph, heading 1, heading 2, etc.
    Unix Computer operating system originally developed in 1969 by a group of AT&T employees at Bell Labs. The Unix operating system was first developed in assembly, which is machine-dependent and a low-level programming language. Ken Thompson created the B language in 1969 and Unix was written in the B language, a high-level programming language. The first Unix system written in C was released in November 1973.
    Vector image Image made up of numerous individual, scalable objects. These objects are defined by mathematical equations rather than pixels, so they always render at the highest quality. Objects may consist of lines, curves, and shapes with editable attributes such as color, fill, and outline. Changing the attributes of a vector object does not effect the object itself. Compare Bitmap image.
    Vector processor Central processing unit (CPU) that implements an instruction set containing instructions that operate on one-dimensional arrays of data called vectors. This is in contrast to a scalar processor, whose instructions operate on single data items. Also known as array processor.
    Web analytics Measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of internet data, including the number of visitors and page views, for understanding and optimizing web usage. It can be used as a tool for measuring website traffic and for business and market research. Web analytics applications can also help companies measure the results of traditional print advertising campaigns. It helps one to estimate how the traffic to the website changed after the launch of a new advertising campaign.
    Web design Design of the way that content is delivered to an end-user through the World Wide Web, using a web browser or other web-enabled software.
    Web development Refers to the work involved in developing a web site for the Internet (World Wide Web) or an intranet (a private network). This can include Web design, web content development, client liaison, client-side/server-side scripting, web server and network security configuration, and e-commerce development. However, among web professionals, "web development" usually refers to the main non-design aspects of building web sites: writing markup and coding. Web development can range from developing the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web-based internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services.
    World Wide Web Consortium Main international standards organization for the World Wide Web. It is made up of member organizations which maintain full-time staff for the purpose of working together in the development of standards for the World Wide Web. Known by its acronym W3C.

    I would only mention that your definition is incomplete for this -
    Contextual selector A type of Style Sheet Selector that

  • Diff b/w Web service and window service

    What is the difference between web service and window service, whether the both are same or not, Give some explain about that each one and give some examples also.

    An XML Web service is a component that implements program
    logic and provides functionality for diseparate
    applications. These applications use standard protocols,
    such as HTTP, XML, and SOAP, to access the functionality.
    XML Web services use XML-based messaging to send and
    receive data, which enables heterogeneous applications to
    interoperate with each other. You can use XML Web services
    to integrate applications that are written in different
    programming languages and deployed on different platforms.
    In addition, you can deploy XML Web services within an
    intranet as well as on the Internet. While the Internet
    brings users closer to organizations, XML Web services
    allow organizations to integrate their applications.
    A Windows service starts much before any user logs in to
    the system (if it has been setup to start at boot up
    process). A Windows service can also be setup in such a way
    that it requires a user to start it manually ? the ultimate
    customization!
    Windows services run as background processes. These
    applications do not have a user interface, which makes them
    ideal for tasks that do not require any user interaction.
    You can install a Windows service on any server or computer
    that is running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows NT.
    You can also specify a Windows service to run in the
    security context of a specific user account that is
    different from the logged on user account or the default
    computer account. For example, you can create a Windows
    service to monitor performance counter data and react to
    threshold values in a database.

  • Web Application and Java Application

    Hello,
    I have a standalone Java application and a web application (JSP/Servlets) that I would like integrate. The standalone app. should send some information to my web app (which is not a problem), but then the user can be at this web app. for a while and then once he sees something he likes here, he can select it which should take him BACK to the standalone application. My question is whether something like this is possible?
    If so, then how do i do it.
    Also the web app and the standalone app run to 2 separate machines and 2 different JVM's.
    Any kind of help will be great.
    Thanks

    Well let me describe the scenario in detail
    We have a standalone java application that is good to search for data across an enterprise database. We also have another application which is web based and uses jsp's and servlets and is good for displaying data in different ways, let's say different kind of graps. Now the user will typically search for something using the standalone application and once he finds what he is looking for, then he might say that he wants to graph the selected data using this web application. Now this part is not too difficult as the standalone app can simply POST the selected information to the web app and the web app can then plot the graph. However, the tricky part is that this web application has the capability to allow the user to select let's say a bar and then get additional info. on that bar. Now to get this additional info. the web app. must contact the standalone app and tell it what bar was selected to get the additional info.
    so my concern is how does the web app contact the standalone app. or even KNOW about this web app. Also, RMI is pretty flaky and i would much rather use web services to accomplish it. If that is the only way to go that is.
    Hope that helps.

  • Web Application and Serialization

    Hi, i have a problem with a web application that is running on an Application server (BEA WebLogic 7.0). I have only the war file of the web application and i must know if in this war there is a class that is not serializable.
    How can i find it ? Is there a tool that can help me to find not serializable classes ?
    Thanks.
    claudiozx2006

    One way to do that is to decompile Java classes with Java decompiler and see which one doesn't implement Serializable interface. Here is a link to a good decompiler: http://www.kpdus.com/jad.html

  • Web application and desktop application?

    Hi everyone,
    I am new to this platform.I have a basic doubts that whats the difference between developing application in flex as a web application and desktop application from programming point of view?Can we use same code in both cases?
    Please guide me....
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome,
    The main difference between a web application and a desktop application is that web applications do not have access and can't manipulate your local system ( you can't open a window that displays all your local files, you can't delete, rename, edit local files and so on ). Obviously, this is just one difference, there are many more ( the best would be if you google for "web aplication vs desktop application" because the same rules apply for 99% if not all the platforms you can find out there ).
    Desktop applications can have full control of your local system ( obviously, we have to take in consideration the platform we are using because since AIR is quite new in the desktop application field it is also more limited than other languages that have been used successfully to create desktop applications for years and year; like ce C# or C++ and so on ).
    Another important difference is that desktop applications usually need to be installed in order to function where on the other hand, web applications can run in the browser without you having to install the aplication you are about to view on your computer ( in some cases, like of the Flash and Flex platforms, you only require a "special player" that can display the content you are trying to access... for Flash and Flex applications you need the Flash Player installed for your browser ).
    So, before jumping into a project/platform you need to know your target. If you goal is to offer a fast, easy to access and no install required application to your users then you'll usually go with a web application. If your application needs to work with local files, maybe local databases, or it needs more control over the user's PC and so on, then you'll most likely go with a desktop application.
    With kind regards,
    Barna Biro
