ICal 3.0.7 alarms?

Help file says to add an alarm by double-clicking the event, and then clicking on "Edit" in the Event Editor. I do not have an edit button in the Event Editor. I can add attendees, attachments, notes, and a url, but nothing about adding an alarm.

Janice,
One of the first things to try is "refresh" the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCAl, drag the .plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior.
Additionally, If you updated to 10.5.7 using Software Update, try downloading and installing the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update.

  • How do I set iCal so that my alarms go off when in sleep mode?

I'm pretty sure that I can set iCal to open a program (iTunes) as an alarm while the computer is in sleep mode but I can't find the setting. This morning it didn't go off while in sleep mode.
    Does anyone know how?

I am pretty sure that you can't. You can however use the Energy Saver in System Preferences to wake the computer at a set time, and then your iCal alarm could fire.

  • Is there a way to change iCal 4.0.4 alarm default settings?

I'm pretty sure I've asked a version of this same question a before in this forum, but I don't recall what the answer is and I can't seem to find it either by looking in 'Your Stuff' Discussions; so, I'm asking it again. I'm also hoping Apple will fix this in an update to iCal 4.0.4, though somehow, I doubt they will, since they appear to be all about the OSX Lion now and are abandoning us Snow Leopard users as quickly as they have previous OSX platform users. This isn't really fair for those of us that can't move to the new Lion OSX yet for application compatibility reasons.
    So, here's my issue:
When I schedule an event/appointment in iCal 4.0.4 in Snow Leopard, there are options for setting the alarms that are default options. In the top half of the little drop-down menu when clicking on alarm, they are actions listed as:
    None
    Message
    Message with Sound
    Email
    Open File
    Run Script
In the bottom half of the little drop-down menu when clicking on alarm, they are tmes listed as:
Play sound "x" 15 minutes before
    Display message 15 minutes before
Play sound "x" 1 hour before
Play sound "x" 15 minutes after
Why is there an option in the default alarm times for setting an alarm to after an event has happened?
Who in their right mind would want an option that would make them late to do something or go somewhere?
It seems to me this is a inane option and should be deleteable in the Preferences, but it isn't!
I am be able to alter some of the time options just by setting events and changing the times, such as using 30 minutes before over and over again, so iCal seems to learn I want this option regularly and will eventually display it for me. However, no matter what I do, I can't seem to get rid of the Play sound "x" 15 minutes after option. Is there a fix for this or not?

  • Automatically create iCal entry with email alarm from a Mail.app email?

    Hi..
    Hope you can help?
I want to set up Mail.app/iCal so that it automatically creates a new iCal entry in a specific calendar when an email is received...
Is there a Plug-in etc that will do this?
This reason I am asking is that I am trying to put a link on my online store where people can click for a gift reminder email that will be sent to them on a date they specify.
The link could pop-up a new email window pre-filled with Subject: 'Gift Reminder' and addressed to '[email protected]' They would be instructed to enter a single date in the text area and press Send...
Then, when Mail.app receives the email, it would move it to a Folder called 'Gift Reminders' and automatically set up a new iCal entry that has an alarm to email the sender on that date with an email containing the Subject 'The Gift Reminder you Requested' etc and some different text in the body... It would be great if this could be set up to repeat annually also as the gift reminder is primarily for birthday gifts...
Id there a script / plug-in or way of making this happen??
Any help greatly appreciated, though my knowledge of scripts / Automator etc is quite limited I am willing to try out any suggestions!
    Thanks,
    Jon.

Tried a restart which showed 2183 emails unable to move which is kind of bonkers and had to quit Mail> restart and moving emails from search now appears to be working. Apple owes me about 500 hours of my life so far with Mavericks!

  • ICal will not remember alarm

I am using iCal with Lion and have iPhone 4s. I have iCal tied to google calendar.
When I set up a new event on iCal on my computer, I set an alarm, but it doesn't set; i.e., I reopen event and there is no alarm. I repeat setting alarm several times and iCal will not record it. I can set an event with an alarm on the iPhone and it does remember it.
Any ideas? Is there something on with google calendar link?

Ok this is definitely a work around but seems to have the desired effect.
Set Google calendar to send a text as a reminder as well as a pop up, which means you get the sound via a text message. Save the google contact details and assign the same alert sound that iCal uses to the text message alert.
To change the time of an alert in iCal, create a new item as a default "all day" event, then change it to a specific timed event and at the same time set an alert as "message" with the desired time.
To make changes to the timing of the alert, change the event back an all day event, close, and then change it again. It's the only way I've found that makes the time stick in iCal.
The text message will unfortunately only come in at the predefined time unless you log in to Google calendar and change it.
Not a solution but this is how I made it work.

  • ICal setting default message alarm for all events

I want to change when I get message/alarms for all events (birthdays, etc.) from 2 days before to 4 days before. I find that I can only change this for single events (e.g., a specific person's birthday rather than all persons' birthdays). Is there a way to change the default so that I get my warning alarm message for all events 4 days in advance instead of 2 days?

I miss appointments b/c of this too.
And no, Apple does not read these forums UNLESS you comment on how pathetic and Mickey Mouse certain elements of their software is - like no 'default' setting for alarms in iCal, and not being able to resize windows from all edges (vs. the little annoying corner) etc etc.
I hope they fix it with the new software package in Leopard. I'm somewhat afraid it's going to be 'Leper' at first though. We'll see...

  • ICal Won't Email Alarm-says my addr Card isn't there?

    Hi all,
I've got a strange problem. When I try to setup an email alarm in iCal, it says that I have to add my own card in address book and offers to open it for me. I already have my own card in there, and have set this email alarm many times before? I even tried to make a new card for myself and it still gives me the same message when I try to set an email alarm? It won't let me set this alarm any more? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Tom

Try exporting the card, delete it in Contacts, then import the card and mark it as you. If that doesn't work, try deleting/recreating the card and then mark it as you.

  • ICal is sending my alarms to my husband's email as well

My husband is getting my personal iCal alarms as well. When I choose my alarms, his email is not even there as an option. How can I stop this?? I'm guessing it must have something to do with our iCal being synced.

  • I should not have to launch ical to close an alarms alert panel.

So it seems whenever icalalarmscheduler fires an alert for an event I have to launch ical in order to close that alert panel. I shouldn't have to launch ical in order to close an alert panel launched by icalalarmscheduler.

    hey Sally,
Can you elaborate on the ilab and what you are trying to do? I have found this page to explain error 404, but I am not sure if it directly applies to  you

  • ICal seems to execute alarms by itself when not required

I have iCal set up to run Applescript actions. One of the actions is set up to run a scripts once a week. At the moment it is running once every day at random times, and I have no clue as to why. Can it be iCal is corrupted? Or?
And yes I have checked it is not set up to run daily ☺
    Any suggestions?

  • New to iCal:  Audible alarms in iCal are not loud enough...

I'm getting a Verizon iPhone and will then use MobileMe to keep everything synced. Until now, I've only used the calendar features in regular phones (I've never had a smartphone). I've fumbled around with iCal some on my Mac, and it clearly will be easier to program events on it, and it has many customization features.
But, the problem is: I've been testing the alarm in iCal (by having it sound on my iMac since I don't yet have an iPhone), and it seems you can only have a brief audible alarm sound (for instance, the "Glass" or "Basso" sound option with the "Message with Sound" option). I'm used to the calendars on regular cell phones, which, while they aren't as customizable as the iCal events, do at least have a loud alarm that repeats much like a cell phone ringer. Is there something I can do in iCal to make its alarm louder and repetitive?
If I can't get a loud, repetitive alarm to sound with my iCal events, then it's really not going to work for me. The alarm will be going off on my iPhone and I will never hear it.

    The plot thickens ...
I just fixed my iCal sync problem with .Mac by refreshing .Mac with the data from my iMac and then syncing it to my iBook. Well, it finally worked, but surprise surprise, a few posts from my mobile/cell T610 appeared in the iBooks iCal, although they aren't in the iMac's iCal. So it seems like the events I have created on the T610 do transfer to the iMac -- it's just that they don't display in iCal. Or rather, in the syncing computer's iCal ...
What do you make of this?

  • ICal alarm appears off screen.

I set up a recurring event to remind me to take my medication. When the alarm sounds the alert apppears off the left edge of the display. I'mm using an Apple 23 inch cinema display. How can I get the alarm reminder to appear in the middle of the screen where I can see it?
    David W

My iCal does that, too. I found that if I have iCal open, then the alarm appears in the center of the screen.

  • ICal Alarm Preferences?

Is there any way to change preferences in ICal so that an alarm is created automatically when you create an appointment? It's possible to do this in MS Outlook, so I'd hate to think that Mac doesn't have something similar. It's way too easy to forget to set an alarm, and then miss the appointment.

    jacksterne,
you may want to look at this plug in, ical fix - it will work with tiger, not sure about leopard, but i see you have 10.4.11, so it should not be a problem: http://www.robertblum.com/articles/2006/07/17/icalfix-05-universal-binary
ical fix will let you set different alarms.

  • ICal - Alarm issues

    Hello,
I would appreciate some help on the following issue I have:
When I create a new appointment within iCal on my mac (Alarm set to "off"), a few seconds later the appointment appears on my iPhone via iCloud.
Problem: Alarm is set to "on", to go off when the appointment starts.
Both iCal and Calenders on my iPhone have the default settings for the alarm set to "off" correctly.
I have removed and restarted iCloud Calenders on both Mac and iPhone.
    The problem persists.
    What can I do?
    Thanks

I've managed to work around this by either
    a) only add events in the iCloud.com calendar
or, if you have to add an event in Mountain Lion's Calendar app:
    1) go to icloud.com afterwards, edit the event, add an alert for whenever (doesn't really matter), click "OK" to save.
    2) edit the event again, remove the alert you just saved.
If you just have one iOS device it might be easier to post-edit the event there.
Here's to hoping they fix the bug in the next Mountain Lion or iOS update.
