ICal (3.0.8) and GW

Importing an .ics from GroupWise into iCal was working perfectly until 3 weeks ago..and then whammm, iCal now hangs so you need to do a Force Quit.
The .ics can be imported into an iCal on a Mac that does NOT get updated.
Question is, how can I revert back to my old iCal (as there is no way my work will revert GW)? Thanks in advance for your wisdom

What changed 3 weeks ago?
What do you mean by "a Mac that does NOT get updated"?

  • Help....duplications of ical events on iPhone and only syncing from mac to iPhone?

    Hi,
Has anyone got any suggestions for fixing this problem.....
My iPhone syncs with my Mac perfectly via iTunes apart from iCal, which is giving me real grief! iCal on my mac is in perfect order and syncs events to my phone but my phone has duplicate and triplicate events and even events in different states of being edited. The iphone doesnt sync events made in it back to the mac either.
It syncs contacts etc. fine, just not iCal events.
Is there an easy way of fixing this or even totally reseting iCal on the Mac and iPhone so it clears this up? (obviously, I need to keep my calendar events though)
I've tried replacing the info on the phone, reseting the phone, changing to iCloud syncing and back again and I even upgraded to the iPhone 5 (which I was going to do anyway )
I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.8, iCal 4.0.4, iTunes 11.0.2 and I was on an iPhone 4 and now iPhone 5. It's been happening for two months now and it's getting really frustrating!
Thanks for any help in advance

This fixed my problem - finally!!

  • ICal sudden extreme lag and eating up all memory in week mode

This was intented to be a question but I found out the answer by the time I finished writing it so if someone out there gets the same problem, I hope this can help them.
I use iStudiez for all my school stuff so I didn't use iCal a lot recently. However, when opening it today, everytime I tried changing weeks in week mode, iCal would lag badly and stop responding for several seconds, eating all the available RAM in the process. I tried to force quit, but the problem reappeared every time.
Turns out iCal doesn't seem to handle "long" events very well. I had a "Nothing" event starting on December 21st, 2012 and ending several years later, and deleting it caused the lagging to stop. I guess iCal tries to load the whole event when it appears in the week view.
Hope this post helps someone or alerts Apple to issue a fix. (I use the latest version of iCal on the latest build of OSX, which as of today is iCal 6.0 on OS X 10.8.2)

    Hi Jetjuice!
I have an article that can help you troubleshoot this issue a little further and can provide you with some more steps to take in attempting to resolve this issue:

  • ICal To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar

Why is it that at this stage of development, Apple has yet to offer a solution to manage and sync iCal to-do's with the iPhone Calendar? Am I missing something? It seems obvious that Apple is giving third party developers the opportunity to write the many wonderful To-Do apps out there, and there are many. The problem is, this doesn't fix the problem of sync-ability. I know that there are ways to sync between these third party apps and things such as their own desktop software (Things), which will then sync to to iCal. There are others that will sync to Google Calendar and/or Google Docs, but this is hardly a simple solution. There are always complications when you start syncing too many things to too many places, as the software doesn't always line up pretty.
I'm basically just looking for a simple solution to use iCal, my iPhone Calendar and a To-Do function that will sync seamlessly with both. The most natural thing would be for Apple to include To-Do creation in the iPhone Calendar app with full sync capability with iCal. I find it shocking that Apple hasn't written for this.
There are nice applications out there such as Pocket Informant that integrates a beautiful (and much more powerful calendaring function) with a To-Do function within the same application, but they have no ability to sync with iCal, nor do they have a desktop version of their software.
If anyone has any ideas on this, or advice on the best way to integrate iCal, To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar, please let me know. In the meantime, I will post feedback to the Apple developers with a seemingly obvious enhancement request.

With all due respect, I completely disagree with you. Integrating To-Do's and calendar events is a very natural way of organizing things. There is an app called Pocket Informant which does a very nice job in integrating the two. Even Apple thinks they are (and could be related), or else why even include to-do's in iCal to begin with? You see, it is as if they went half way in their effort. They provide something because they think it could be a good idea, but then they put no time or effort into actually making it useful for the end user. The fact that to-do's and notes show up in mail is also pointless. Why do I need mail to see my to-do's on my computer when I could just look in iCal, which is where they were created in the first place.
Omni focus is a very powerful app. I just think that it is way overkill. What good is an app that helps you get things done, when using it actually impedes getting those things done? It literally takes so much time and effort to work with Omni (if you really want to use it correctly), that you don't have any time left over for the things you need to get done.
And by the way, don't talk about hourly rates when you use words like "Gentlements", "prolly" (for, I am assuming probably", "proccess" (there is one c) "offence" (it is offense, unless you are from the UK, which I am assuming you are not), to name a few. Anyway, spelling aside, you shouldn't really be judging what people make based on whether someone thinks an app is expensive. The fact is, Omni focus happens to be very expensive. I am not saying that it is not worth it. In fact, I really don't know. I know that it is powerful, but for someone looking for a simple way to manage the important tasks in life, Omni is not for everyone, especially when you are spending upwards of $80 when something like Put Things Off (which I like a lot better) costs around $3.

  • Endless syncing: issue with iCal (2.0.5) and iPod Touch 8GB (4.0.2)

    Hi,
A couple of days ago I upgraded my iPod's OS from 4 to 4.0.2. Also, around those days, I made massive changes on my iCal's calendars (in my MacBook's iCal, not in the iPod's iCal). Since then, when I connect my iPod to my MacBook, iTunes stays syncing calendars and never stops.
I re-installed iTunes (the new version), but it didn't work.
I've tried rebooting, then restoring the iPod, restoring MacBook's iCal (Erased all calendars and created a new & empty one, then I went to Library and erased what I thought it was erasable).
I need help... I've just returned to college and it's a drama not being able to sync. Is it because iPod's new OS and Tiger won't work together anymore...?
PS: I've read something about MobileMe. I don't have nor want an account.
Thanks for reading and sorry for my poor English.

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

Although this isn't currently possible in the iOS Calendar app, go to iCloud.com (not on your iPad, but on a computer browser like Safari or Firefox) and log in.  There, you can add an event in Calendar and have the options to make it repeat however you want.

The calendar language is determined by system prefs/language & text/formats.

  • ICal data suddenly gone and iCal stuck on birthday subscription

I am on OSX 10.8.4 - iCal data suddenly gone and iCal stuck on birthday subscription - when trying to create events, or enter any data - the following prompt comes up "You can't add or change events on the Birthdays Calendar".  I can not get "off" the Birthday Calendar  - I can no longer access any of the old data or use iCal at all.
    - Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I have a similar problem. I have been using MobileMe to sync my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4. I noticed on Friday morning that all data prior to 6 months ago (23 Apr 2010/Fri) is gone, except for recurring appts (birthdays, mainly). MobileMe may have had something to do with it, but I never log on to the site, and I had not updated my MobileMe calendar online (or iCal on my laptop, either, for that matter). And, I also don't know exactly when I lost all this data, either, which of course doesn't help either the troubleshooting or the recovery processes.
I confirmed that all my settings (laptop, iPhone, iTunes, MobileMe online) were all set to keep all events forever and to sync all events. As part of checking all this, I got the message about updating my MobileMe calendar, which I did. I didn't lose any additional data. I am diligent about all updates, but if I had realized I was switching from keeping all my calendar data on my laptop to keeping it all on a MobileMe server, I wouldn't have gone ahead.
Anyway, a Genius confirmed that my settings all look good. I went through the Express Lane chat process and am now in touch with a MobileMe Senior Advisor. We'll see. I'm not especially hopeful but will let y'all know how it proceeds.

  • ICal reminders for iPod and notebook battery have broken links

iCal reminders for iPod and notebook battery have broken links and are not functioning. I went to http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html and midway down on the right side is a link to install a ical reminder. That link does not work with my laptop.
It sends me this link "webcal://www.apple.com/images/ipod_icalreminder.ics" but I immediately get an email message stating:
    Error subscribing to the calendar
No calendar was found on http://www.apple.com/images/ipod_icalreminder.ics. Please check the URL.
Likewise, the same thing happens for my notebook. Is there another URL or does anyone have connections at apple to reinstate this dead link.

    Hope this helpful.

So after reading other's threads on this issue, I learned that by turning icloud's calendar sync option off and then on again, it re-sets your calendar and pesky old things go away like magic. Thanks to others on this forum for sharing their expertise! I'm all set now.

  • Using iCal on an iPhone and MacBook

I have a MacBook, an iPhone4 and a MobileMe subscription. I thought it would be easy to organise my schedule on my MacBook and sync it with the iPhone, but I have two problems:
    1) the 'to do' list which appears on iCal on my MacBook is not present on iCal on my iPhone, and I really need it
    2) my schedule is only syncing when I connect the iPhone via the USB port. I have yet to see any evidence that it's syncing over the air
    3) I'm not at all clear how you're supposed to use MobileMe from the iPhone. When I go to www.me.com on Safari using my iPhone, I do not get the log in screen - I just four options about setup. But I've already gone through setup.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

Thanks for your observations. I've found that even without syncing my calendars through iTunes - I only use iTunes to download music and podcasts and the like - at times there are strange things going on - updates or additions that appear in one place but not all. In general, my two computers and MobileMe seem to do alright together. It's my iPod touch and my iPhone 3G that are the problem. Occasionally, events that I enter on the iPhone don't ever appear on MM and thus either of my computers, which can be unsettling at the very least. At the same time, all kinds of strange things happen when I'm trying to sync either of my handhelds with MM (all syncing is supposed to be automatic). Some changes made on one or the other of my computers sometimes take days to display on either of the handhelds, and events that I reschedule on the computer(s) sometimes leave the original event behind on the handhelds. I've generally found that turning off calendar syncing in the account info in Settings on the handheld devices (the calendars on the mobile device are erased) and then turning it back on and letting it sync with MM settles things down, but it takes a long time for that sync to occur. Then things will go along according to plan for a while until something goes awry again and then I have to go through the "turn off/turn on/reset the device" routine. I'm not sure what causes these glitches, but like you I've found a way to recover, however tedious.
