Ical 5.0.1: Subscribed calendar already exists (phantom calendar)
So it looks like a few people have this problem but no one has reponded with working answer. I thought I would try again. So my particular issue is that I am trying to re-subscribe to a calendar that I have previously deleted but iCal is telling me that the calendar already exists. I don't see the calendar listed in my subscribed calendars listing anywhere or anywhere else for that matter so I am trying to understand how I can completely remove this subscribed calendar so that I can re-subscribe to it.
I have 2 other subscribed calendars that I have deleted and re-subscribed to and didn't have any issues. Just this one calendar. I did noticed that I was using icloud to sync my subscribed calendars to my icloud.com account but I have removed that setting and tried to re-subscribe again but no luck.
Is there a way that I can delete the phantom calendar either or reset my iCal complete so that I can set it up as if it were a first time launch?
The reset might be the best approach if it can be done since my subscribed calendars are also not respecting the colors that I have assigned them (they are all grey).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello all,
I'm still having this issue and would really like any suggestions if anyone knows of any. Basically, I need to view my calendar that doesn't have any events so I can change the password and get any new events for it.
Because the calendar app does not show the calendar in the calendar listing if it doesn't have any events (not smart btw), I don't have a way to change its information. And attempting to re-subscribe gives me the error that the calendar already exists.
Is there a way that I can view "all" calendars even if they are hidden or don't have any events scheduled for them so that I can change the login credentials? This issue is on the calendar app version 6.0 build 1645 on my mac os x laptop.
I know there has to be a way to do this but I just can't seem to find it and googling is not turning up any results. Even searching my my keychain for the login information and the systems preferences has not shown me anything.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

ICal Crashes after adding Subscribed Calendar (google)
As soon as I add a subscribed Google calendar, iCal becomes problematic. Doesn't matter if I add it manually or by using a link. As soon as I turn off the subscribed calendar, iCal starts working flawlessly. Any ideas on how to fix?
Closed/Launched iCal
Removed/Added subscribed calendar (both manually and via link)
Rebooted several times
Happens whether on 4G or WiFi
Happens with all options in iCloud enabled/disabled
Grrrrrrrr!!!!!
iPad 3 64GB, iOS 5.1.1, Verizon 4GI looked on Google support as suggested by Eric, but this pointed me back to the Apple support forums where I came across this thread which I hadn't seen before.
Like other thread on the subject it had a lot of suggestions that didn't look helpful. However after reading through the various posts I tried the following.
1. I went off-line from the intranet, and that meant that I could actually open iCal to update my password within iCal. However when you go back online you still get errors and therefore have to go through steps 2 & 3 for a complete solution.
2. I then made sure all my Google related passwords within Keychain were correct using Keychain Access
3. I then ran Keychain First Aid from within Keychain Access
Once I had done all those things I was able to get back into iCal without any errors. -
Subscribed calendars "Show Calendar On MobileMe" not available
Anyone know why the "Show Calendar On MobileMe" option is available on some webcal://ical.me.com based subscribed calendars but not others?
For example, in my iCal, two subscribed calendars originating from the same MobileMe user (URL webcal://ical.me.com/{username}/{calendarName}.ics) allow the "Show Calendar On MobileMe" option. Yet another subscribed calendar originating from another MobileMe user (URL webcal://ical.me.com/{anotherUsername}/{anotherCalendarName}.ics), does not offer the "Show Calendar On MobileMe" option.
Am running MacOS 10.5.8 (iCal 3.0.8). I, too, have a MobileMe account, btw.
Thanks for any help!I seem to be having the same problem with repeated appointments:
I have an appointment with a start date of Tue 2nd Sept and an end date of Wed 3rd (created on iphone).
On mobileme.com it appears on Thursday 4th as well.
The appointment appears correctly in iCal (synced through mobileme, not iTunes).
Looks like a bug to me.

Subscribed calendar deletions not reflected in ical
Hi,
I use webcalendar (http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php) as a web based calendar tool for managing my family whereabouts and plans. I have 5 users within the web tool and all 5 users have enabled remote subscriptions.
I subscribe to all 5 calendars from my MacBook in order that I can then sync these up onto my IPOD iTouch and all this is working fine.
My problem is that when I delete an item from within WebCalendar this is not reflected on iCal and the only way I can seem to work around this is through deleting the subscribed calendars and recreating them. As I don't seem to be able to automate this using a applescript this is a tedious task hence raising a plea for help on this forum.
Thanks in advance for any pointers...This is a schema issue with QuickBooks, and you'll have to continue to update these items by hand until the issues is addressed by the Intuit programming team. I cannot believe that they are not already aware of it, but you should report it anyway.
On its face, it is ridiculous for them to create an event with an end point value which occurs prior to the start point value. All day events cannot end before they start! Actually, no event can end before it starts…
By definition, an all day event in iCal is one which starts on a particular date at 12:00:00 +0000 and ends at 12:00:00 +0000 on the next day. For example, an all day event on March 15, 2006 is represented in the truth [when pushed from iCal] as:
2006-07-15 12:00:00 +0000
2006-07-16 12:00:00 +0000
NOTE: I didn't pick those representations and that's not the way I would have chosen to do it, but it is what the iCal programming team has done.
As a user, you don't see the time values, and the date representation in the inspector panel is shown [for the above example] as:
07/15/06
07/15/06
Again, an all day event cannot end before it starts. So the data provided by the Intuit application is invalid: in effect, the event they have defined does not exist. -
I exported my ical to send to a friend, then opened it to make sure that it would work to find out that it duplicated all my events, this how now left me with an infinite error message of "The server responded with an error. ... event already exists".
Please help! It took me amny hours to organise my school calender and deleteing it is not an option.Yes where is the easy fix? I imported a calendar from my kids school district and whenever I enter a new event the error message for all events pops up.....The solution suggested by one is extremely cumbersome so I did not even try it....

HT5029 Reconfiguring existing subscribed calendars to push with iCloud
I am not able to complete "Reconfiguring existing subscribed calendars to push with iCloud" using the directions given. The location, neither On My Mac, nor iCloud show up when I try to reconfigure (as shown in instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5029). When I choose Get Info from my birthday subscription calendar, I can only "Ignore Alerts" or "Open Address Book."
I want to be able to see my birthday calendar items on iCloud.
Any help would be appreciated!
Many thanks, CherylGreetings Cheryl,
The Birthday calendar in iCal s not a server based subscription which is what that article you reference deals with. The Birthday calendar feeds directly from the contents of the Address Book on your Mac.
To have your birthdays in iCloud:
Go to Apple > System Preferences > iCloud -- Make sure "Contacts" (aka Address Book) is checked.
Then follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2676
Hope that helps. -
in ical I just added new calendars to a pre-existing calendar group, I can make events with these calendars, but not reminders, any suggestions?
Hi,
Lion has changed the way reminders (todos as was) work. They now seem to need to be in a seperate calendar.
In iCal open the File menu and select New Reminder List... and select where to put it.
Best wishes

Using iCal with Google Calendars: can view subscribed calendars, but not add to them
Something recently happened to my google calendars causing them to all disappear from Google. Anyway, that mystery remains.
I am currently trying to re set up iCal to sync with Google Calendars and things aren't working quite right.
In iCal, I've done Calendar>Subscribe and entered the URL for that particular Google calendar. This has been completed for the 5 separate Google calendars I have and they show up in the list of subscribed calendars.
However, if I attempt to create a new event, the only calendar choice I have is for the main GMail calendar, not any of the subscribed "sub calendars".
In Preferences>Account, If I select Google and then go to the "delegation"tab, there is a message that states "You can't see delegation settings when this account is offline."
Can anyone offer some advice?
Thanks. That's the part I always forget how to do. See if this answers your question:
To select which calendars to sync to your Apple device, follow these steps:
Open the Safari browser on your device and go to http://m.google.com/sync
Sign in with your account and select your device from the list of devices you've set up for Google Sync.

Subscribed Calendars, iCal, and Mobileme
In iCal I have subscribed to 3 calendars, including US holidays. I have setup iCal for the Cavdav format for the new Mobileme calendar. The subscribed calendars do not show up on my iPad. Can this be fixed/changed?
ThanksDo an iCal backup first if you use it on a mac too.
When I upgraded to Caldav last week I ended up with .mac account calendar AND a mobileme one too so I had duplicatec entries.
I would delete mobileme or .mac account on your iPad and then sign up again. It should then pick up the caldav data from the mobileme servers if you sign in at setup using cavdav info you should have been emailed.

Ical subscribed calendar with Iphone?
I have a client that uses Ical for multiple calendars. All are his, except for one, which he subscribes to.
That one calendar is not listed on his Iphone. It is the only one missing.
Is this normal or is there a way to turn on this functionality? This is how I managed to get a workround.
Note my wife does not have a Mac, she only has a PC and uses her Iphone Calendar to share her appointments with me:
Firstly I Set up a new user on my Mac for my wife, I then created her ICal account and set it to publish to the net and for it to sync with MobileMe. You can email to subscribed Calendar link to your own account and subscribe from the message
Then go to this link and follow what they tell you to.
http://www.jacksmac.com/JacksMac/Jacks_Mac_Blog/Entries/2008/8/21_iPhones_Calendar_Can_Show_iCalSubscriptions.html
Once completed ICal checks the published Calendar and copies it to a local folder. You need to leave your Mac on for this to work.
In addition to this I set up fast user switching which really helps this process. I did this by:
System Preferences > Accounts > Login option (Bottom LHS of the screen) > Check the box saying Enable Fast user Switching.
You will then see your login name appear on the top RHS of your screen next to spotlight, switch your user to the second profile, Launch ICal and set Mobile Me to sync and leave Ical open.
Once you have done this switch back to your main profile and open ICal in the background, all Calendars should then sync through to your iphone and be updated every 15 minutes.
NOTE IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK PROPERLY, YOU NEED TO LEAVE YOUR MAC SWITCHED ON AND LEAVE ICAL RUNNING IN BOTH PROFILES. -
ICal insists on syncing everything to a subscribed calendar
Everytime I have a subscribed calendar (Moon Phases and my Google calendar) iCal / iTunes insists on putting the new items from my iPhone to the subscribed calendar.
This is particularly frustrating since subscribed calendars are the one type of calendar you can't edit in iCal.
I don't have any preferences to do this and I am wondering if it is a known issue.Same issue and I deleted a subscribed calendar before I realized that all my calender events from the iphone were posted there even though on the iphone section of itunes I had checked "home". I did find that it was synching to the last calendar in the list so moving home (or whatever editable calendar) the the bottom corrected this.
Does anyone know how to recover from deleting a calendar (too late to just undo) -
ICal subscribed calendars sync to iPhone ?
I have several calendars that are syncing well to iPhone from Leopard, but none of the subscribed calendars (holidays, sports team schedules, etc.) are syncing.
Is there some trick to get this to work?
Thank you for your help. There are two answers to this subscribed calendars (holidays, sports team schedules, etc.) question.
1) When you sync the iPhone via your iTunes then the subscribed cals will sync. Be sure to check the correct boxes under iTunes. A visit to a genius bar may be needed.
2) If you sync your iPhone with MobileMe then you are out of luck.
The MobileMe issue:
This has been a thorn in everyones you know what for about one year. The answer to your question is..
You can't.
Apple does not support the idea of people actually getting all their info sync'd from MobileMe. If you have purchased a MobileMe Family Pack then the idea of sharing your info within a family is an oxymoron.
Just got back from MacWorld '09 and the utter disappointment in Apple not supplying an update to the iPhone in the Schiller keynote is overwhelming. No matter what the media is saying about MacWorld. The fact is, the two main issues at hand that people wanted to see for the iPhone was Copy/Paste and Shared iCals on their iPhones. It was not the stupid rumor of a iPhone nano. People really want functions fixed before new hardware.
No matter what Apple execs state about 'no one seems to care about these issues' is a lack of understanding about being mobile and productive. Apple created a great phone without allowing people to be to mobile.
So, until Apple finds the need to help its customer base with features they need or want (other then games and ifart programs from iTunes).. Well you are out of luck.
Sad to state, but true. -
Un -subscribed calendars showing in up in some lists but not in ical
Hi
Sorry i have an odd problem that i can't seem to solve.
I'm using 10.6.4 and mobile me to sync data across multiple devices i have recently bought an ipad and on turning mobile me syncing on, some old subscribed calendars have "popped up" on the ipad (which i thought was impossible !)
e.g. UK holidays was once subscribed in ical on my mac but had been deleted - this is now showing with current events and is listed twice in the calendar drop down on the ipad calendar app
in trying to resolve this i have noticed that the once subscribed calendars do show in itunes on the info tab twice (ITUNES > MY DEVICE > INFO > CALENDARS) so they must be held some where on my mac but
1) how can i get rid of them from my mac?
2) how can i get rid of them off my ipad?
i have tried resting mobile me data on mobile me
deleting All calendars and restoring to a previous back up
none have got rid of these calendars
any suggestions would be great!Isolating this problem will likely require obtaining the account usernames and a possibly a request to share your content with someone at Adobe. Rather than asking you to provide that on the forum, I would recommend that you forward your description to [email protected] Someone will contact you directly to obtain the necessary details for the investigation.
Thanks,

ICal and subscribed calendars with MobileMe using AppleScript
I am having the same problem as many of you; I have a MobileMe account which does not sync the calendars I have in iCal that are subscriptions. I found this great script online which I'll post below. I don't know anything about AppleScript so I'm just copy-pasting. I want it to work, but I'm getting the error "The variable theOldEvent is not defined." right around the line "if similar_found is true then set theOldSummary to the summary of theOldEvent" kinda near the middle. Like I said, I don't know anything about AppleScript. So my question is; how can I fix this error and/or is there some better way of using AppleScript/Automator to do this same thing? Thanks!
