ICal & Address Book to Outlook 2003

At home, I use iCal and Address Book. This is where I manage my calendar, contacts, etc. I sync it all to .Mac and my iPhone.
At work, I use Outlook 2003. However, it is a government Exchange server, and thus it cannot be accessed from home other than through webmail.
Thus, I'm in a bind. I manage my information in iCal and Address Book, but need to also be able to--at minimum--view that data in Outlook 2003 from my government system. The ability to write or syncronize data from Outlook is definitely important, but not nearly as crucial as at least being able to view the data.
Right now, I can view my data through my iPhone, but that's not a very comfortable or flexible approach when working in the office. Also, government networks are restricted from accessing many outside services, so viewing through .Mac's web UI is also not an option.
If I export from iCal, I get a .ICS file. Is there any way -- even manually -- to get this imported into Outlook 2003?
2003 cannot subscribe to an iCal, and as best I can figure out right now, it can't import a .ICS file either.
Of course, government computers cannot have 3rd party software installed, so I have to have a way of doing this with standard Microsoft Office Professional, or a Web-based application that can generate and download to me any files necessary for importing.
I thought of having iCal and Microsoft Entourage (also on my home system) sync that data, and doing the export from Entourage -- presuming of course that Entourage and Outlook would speak nicely with each other. Big assumption I guess. I just realized that an export from Entourage uses the .RGE format -- not the .PST that Outlook uses. So I can't even do THAT to then import into Outlook either.
Unless anyone has some other suggestions, I would guess there's nothing I can do until the government systems are upgraded to Outlook 2007, which if I hear correctly, can subscribe to an iCalendar feed (minus to-do's, etc.)
Am I up the creek on this one?
dt

I don't know if you can sync on a government computer... my husband got around this similar situation by syncing his iPod Touch to his school computer (where he has Outlook 2003, and can only access via webmail outside of school), and having the iPod Touch also sync with Mobile Me (formerly .Mac) when away from work.
So far this is working for us as we needed a common calendar & shared contacts between his school events, my school events & personal events. (My computer syncs right with Mobile Me.) Perhaps this doesn't work in your situation as I'm not familiar with a government Exchange server...

  • ITunes not seeing Windows Address Book or Outlook 2003

When I try to sync my iPhone, it syncs the music, videos, etc, but under the Info tab in iTunes it doesn't show me any options to sync my contacts with, nor bookmarks, nor calendar, etc. I have Outlook 2003 with all the proper iTunes add-ins activated as well as Windows Address Book, but iTunes simply doesn't seem to see that I have these programs installed on my computer and that I can sync my iPhone with them! Anyone else has similar problems?

    Yep,
the first time I got sync probs, I also researched with the root cause is syncing. I tried just everything. It turned out, that address book is just not handling the contacts with all their data entries very well. .MAC, the iPod and the address book itself have all different capabilities to work with the extremly flexible way the contacts are saved. It basicly just works good if you have typed every contact manually into the address book or if they where imported with a very basic set of parameters (e.g. just name and address). Once they are imported from a different software and every contact has a full set of data, Apples address book is overstrained immediatly. And nothing improved thru years. I am starving for a third party application which integrates as good as Apple address book and is working as it is promising to.
When I just started with Mac, the address book probs almost made me resell my first MAC and get back to Linux or whatever.

  • Copy contacts from iPhone to Address Book in Outlook

    Hi there,
I'm asking to see whether it's possible to copy contacts from an iPhone to the Address Book in Outlook, reason why I ask is that I am trying to help my Managing Director with his wife's Outlook issue as described in the following link http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/outlook-cont acts-wont-display-in-address-book/e7c919cd-3e68-4cab-9b21-4e0080827e21?tm=142262 7591302, if so please could you either instruct me on how to do this or to point me to some references on how to go about this.
    Kind regards,
    RocknRollTim

I have the same problem, sort of. When syncing iPhone with Windows Address Book, address entries that have more than one email address, get synced with only one email address. My only work around was to switch syncing address books from Windows Address Book to Outlook 2003. Now that iTunes 4 had messed up iPhone syncs with Outlook 2003's I've done one final sync with Windows Address Book, turn off the sync address feature in the sync window, and manually updated my address entries manually on the iPhone. I hope that Apple fixes this issue with Outlook 2003 soon, cause this is not why I shelled out $599 for a Treo upgrade!

  • Sync with both Outlook and iCal / Address book

    Hi,
I had an Exchange account, the contacts and the calendar was syncronized with my iPhone.
The Exchange account was deleted, so does my outlook client (actually, it was in my old company notebook what I had to give it back ...).
The conatct and calender entries are still in my iPhone, actually I need those very much.
But - if i delete the Exchange account from the iPhone, it will delete all the contacts and calendar entries - no option to merge to an other source. If I leave it as is - I can not save/ sync or edit these entries in my mac, because they are not synchronised any more ...
Do anyone has any idea how to save this entries to my mac directly, preferably to iCal / address book (without the Exchenge server and without the outlook client)?
    thanx a lot

    Hi,
after following a couple of threads and hints about this, I decided to research the issue myself. Posts like http://www.entourage.mvps.org/syncservices/ical.html seems to be out-of-date compared to my Entourage 2008/Leopard 10.5.1 configuration, but the hints provided are translatable to newer configs (with some imagination). No warranties, but this worked for me:
    1. Open Entourage, choose preferences and disable all sync services. (By now, you should have all your events within Entourage Calendar, and being prepared to loose all data i iCal and PDA.)
    2. Open iSync, choose preferences, and reset sync history. Close iSync.
    3. Open iCal, delete the Entourage Calendar. Close iCal.
    4. Navigate to ~Library/Application Support and delete
    a) The folder Calendars and all its contents
    b) All contents of the folder iSync
    c) All contents of the folder SyncServices
    5. Navigate to ~Library/Preferences
    a) Delete com.apple.iCal.plist (if you find any other iCal files, those should probably be deleted as well)
    b) Browse this directory for any files containing iSync or SyncServices. Delete'em all.
    c) Repeat this excercise for the ByHost subdirectory.
    6. Restart Entourage, choose preferences and switch the desired sync services on.
    7. Restart iCal, and watch the Entourage calendar reappear (could take a minute or two).
    8. Restart iSync, and synchronize your PDA. If the sync process asks to add another Entourage calendar to iCal, approve this. This happened to me, but no events ever made it to this calendar, and I was able to delete it from iCal directly following the sync. It hasn't reappeared.
Note: These hints are for calendar sync, and provided you have all events in the Entourage Calendar. I chose to empty iCal and PDA for the first sync, and to overwrite them with the information from Entourage.

  • How do i restore synching between Treo 650 and iCal & Address Book

prior to installing 10.4.7, i was able to sync my treo 650 with iCal and Address Book; iCal and Address Book syncs with .Mac and Entourage; Entourage syncs with Outlook on my office pc; and Outlook syncs with my Blackberry 8700. therefore, all i needed to do was enter an appointment or a contact in one device, and all the three other devices would be in sync.
i recently upgraded to 10.4.7 and now, i have problems synching: (1) iCal and Address Book can no longer sync with my treo 650, and (2) iCal and Address Book can't sync with Entourage either.
after installing 10.4.7, i noticed that my treo 650 cant sync with iCal and Address Book. i always get the error "isync conduit synchronization failed. ( the first time it happened, i checked isync, and i noticed that "enable palm os synching" was unchecked, so i enabled palm os synching. after that, i was able to sync my palm, but for one time only. after that, i couldnt sync anymore.)
at the same time, i noticed that iCal and Address Book wouldnt sync with Entourage anymore.
i also noticed that iCal starts-up even if i dont activate it. when iCal starts-up, the beach ball spins for around two minutes before it responds; if i click an entry to edit it, the beach ball would likewise spin for a minute or two before i can edit it. i went through all the entries and noticed that some have multiple alarm entries: i deleted these and iCal no longer slows down.
however, whenever i launch Entourage or iSync, iCal also launches. unfortunately, no synchronization takes place.
can somebody help? how do i restore synching between my treo 650 and iCal & Address Book? how do i restore synching with Entourage? thanks.

    Bon asis,
I have the exact same situation. Sorry this doesn't help, but wanted you to know that someone else is in the same exact boat.

I was told by someone at AppleCare that my saved Outlook 2007 Calendars would open on the Mac in iCal and that my Word 2007 Documents would open on the Mac using pages in iWork.
This information is correct for Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.
It's also correct for Outlook if the Outlook Calendars where exported in the ics format.

  • Does SL Mail/iCal/Address Book work with Exchange 2010?

Is anyone using Exchange 2010 with Mail/iCal/Address Book (via the Snow Leopard web services interface and not the IMAP interface)?
My company is about to upgrade Exchange from 2003 to either 2007 or 2010 and since the boss and I both use Macs we want to make sure that SL's apps will work no matter what choice of Exchange server is made.

SL has not been tested with Exchange 2010 as far as I am aware. 10.6.2 was only tested against the 2007 variant.

  • Microsoft Exchange Categories in iCal, Address Book and Mail

I work in a Microsoft environment with my MacBook Pro and would like to use iCal, Address Book and Mail as my default applications rather than Microsoft Oulook 2011, however, there is not support for the Microsoft Exchange Categories to be replicated into the various Apple applications. This results in my address book not to differentiate any longer from my contact categories stored on the Exchange server, nor my calendar. Categories can be created in iCal and other Apple applications but it then requires for the event or contact to be duplication "On my Mac" which makes me loose my synchronization with other systems. Any idea about to fix that?

Same issue here. I would love to migrate to iCal but the lack of support for categories is a limiting factor. Same applies to Contacts.

  • I Need to build a database/booking and dispatch system that intergrates with iCal, Address Book and all Apple device's What would be the best Way.

    Hi
Can anyone give me some useful information on the best ways to design and build a database/booking & dispatch system that can be intergrated through ical, address book and available on my macbook, ipad & iphone and all accessed through icloud.
I started my own chauffuer Service a year ago as an independent. it's becoming a massive bore that most of my time is spent taking down information, checking if i am available for clients and with alot of diary checking and repeatative entries and email ping pong and invoicing, what i want to do is concerntrate on advertising and marketing and using my time off for R & R
What i would like to do is access my information in an app and automate most of the processes like
assigning the job to the client with intergration through iCal and Address Book
be able to email confirmation through mail with an invoice produced through numbers or excel
payment is already done through payleven mobile and must be done in person so i'd rather keep that seperate to all processes apart from a tick box to say it has been paid for.
I have been looking at all options  FileMaker, Bento, Automator, Apple Script. to be frank im no expert and am a little confused as to what to do any advice would be greatly recieved.

    Hi,
I would suggest that is going to be an involved and complex process.
I would personally look into some of the invoicing and time scheduling software available and see if any fit your needs.

  • Corrupted Address Book in Outlook Express

My father's note running XP, has suddenly decided that the address book in outlook express (ie6)is corrupt and it must be re-installed. I have looked around the web and this seems to be a fairly common problem, however the correction of
this seems fairly complex, surely Microsoft must have come up with a quick fix to this problem, especially as it seems of their making, what with faulty updates and the complexity of outlook and outlook express.
Please does anyone have a simple resolution to this problem, that we both can understand.
Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.

Try to recover it manually. Or re-install your OE. Open Outlook Express from where the application is stored on your computer, then attempt to duplicate the error or problem you were previously experiencing. If
you are still experiencing problems, proceed with the following steps to reinstall Internet Explorer.
    http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/microsoft/microsoft-aa/outlook-express/616-emails-and-address-book-are-gone
Go to the "Microsoft Support" website provided to you in the Sources section of this article, then scroll down to the section entitled "Method 2: Reinstall Internet Explorer."
Click on the appropriate link for Internet Explorer based on the version of Windows you are running. For example, if you have a 32-bit Windows Vista computer, you will be required to
download Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista.
Click on the "Download" box after you have been redirected to the appropriate Microsoft webpage for your version of Internet Explorer. A dialog box will then appear prompting
you to proceed with the download.
Launch Outlook Express from its location on your computer and try to duplicate the actions that previously caused errors. Outlook Express should now work successfully without presenting
    any issues or errors.

  • Export Address Book to Outlook on a PC

I was wondering it there was a way to export an entire address book to Outlook on a PC. I have attempted to export "All" as a group Vcard, but only the first entry appears in Outlook. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It's quite easy, all you need is a simple script.
1 - Select all your contacts, then go to File -> Export -> Export vCard.
    2 - You'll get one vCard.
3 - But if you download that script (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19361), and drag your vCard on the script, it will split this one vCard into one vCard for each of your contact....
    Hope it will work

  • How can i sync mac address book w/ outlook for mac 2011

Is it possible to have the address book in Outlook for Mac 2011 sync w/ the Mac address book?  I cleaned up my contacts in the Mac address book expecting the changes to show up in my outlook address book.  Made over 200 changes that did not show up on the Outlook address book.  Seems like there should be a way to make this work.  If I add contacts from within Outlook, I'd like them to show up on all my devices.  MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm new to this platform as I was a PC guy for the last 30 years.

I've got Outlook up and running just fine.  Still have the problem with getting duplicate emails but I'm waiting on MS to get a fix for that in an update.  Apparently that has been an ongoing issue.  I've been in contact w/ a senior MS Outlook tech on that.  I guess I'll just have to make sure that all contact adds/edits are done in Outlook.  Then I can sync my phone or iPad and get the cloud to update the other Apple devices off that sync.  Either that or figure out how to export from the Mac address book to the Outlook address book once in a while.

  • Shared Address Books in Outlook 2010

    Outlook 2010 Scenario:
I have a group of users that would like share an address book between 5 users.
(Users are all in the sales department.)
One user (Sales Rep A) created an address book and shared out the address book to the 4 users.
Sales Rep A has even given “editor” file permissions to the other users so they can update contact information and has verified that the contacts folder is marked as “Outlook address book”.
When you go click on “Address book” in Outlook – then the Tools menu – Options ….I don’t see any option to add the address book.
    (No way to browse)
Although, the other 4 users can see it the address book on the navigation pane, but when you open a new message and click “TO”, they would like to see
it listed under the address book drop down list.  (Where you normally would see the GAL listed).
    Things I have tried:
Created sharing invitation for other 4 users in group.
Verified properties and made sure the check was in front of “show this folder as an email address book”.
I have created a new profile and still don’t see the address book listed.
One solution I thought of was Public folders, but I thought I read somewhere they were going way…is that true???
    We are using a domain.
We are also using WinXP, Outlook 2010, and Exchange 2010.
Please also note we are also running Word 2007, Excel 2007, PPT 2007.

Look in the Addressing, if you go to Tools, you should see all the available address books and in what order that Outlook searches through them.  You should be able to add the extra address book there.

  • Entourage Sync with iCal & Address Book - Fixed!

Finally found a solution that really works.
    Background
I had the infamous issue of trying to get Entourage Calendar and Contacts to Sync with iCal & Address book for the purpose of syncing with iTunes on my iPhone.
I've had most of the symptoms listed on this site.
It only syncs one way, Entourage Calendar shows up in iCal, but it's blank, Entourage Calendar does not show up at all in iCal, but contacts show up in Address book.
I've read nearly every post about it and tried all the various fixes listed, but none of them worked, or at least not consistently.
    My setup:
OS X 10.5.5 MacBook Pro (latest updates)
    Entourage 2004 (latest patches)
(If your using Mobile me, log out before you do this)
Here's what you'll need to do:
    1. Backup your Main Identity which contains all your entourage info, email, contacts, calendars, etc. (Just in case you goof something up)
It's located in your home user account ~User/youraccount/documents/Microsoft User Data (Backup this whole folder)
If you don't know all your email credentials such as username, password, smtp, pop info, jott it down as it will save you some time later.
    2. Launch Entourage and uncheck the Sync Services. Quit Entourage and all Office Apps.
Also you should archive all your entourage data if you want to copy it to the new setup.
Archive the contacts and Calendar Events separately.
    3. Launch iCal and manually delete the Entourage Calendar (if present) Quit iCal.
    4. Now open your documents folder and locate the folder named Microsoft User Data and rename the folder to Microsoft User Data Original
    5. Create a new OS X User from the System Preferences... Accounts
    6. Logoff your current user account and login to your new user account.
    7. Launch Entourage and enter your email info.
    8. Now create a single calendar event.
    9. Go to Entourage Preferences, and check the Sync Services. (click OK, etc.)
    10. Wait 5 minutes, then launch iCal and you will see the Entourage Calendar with your single event.
You should also see your contact that was created when you setup email in the Address Book.
If this worked you've isolated the syncing problem to a corrupt file in your user account or corrupt data in your entourage account.
You can go back to your original user account and delete all the info from entourage to see if you had corrupt data in entourage, (youd did back it up first, right?) or you can follow the procedures below to move all your stuff over to the new login account.
Now you'll need to migrate your data from your Old login account to your new login account.
(I've tried just moving the new Entourage identity back to the old account, and it didn't always work)
The easiest way to move data between accounts is to login as root.
To enable the root user, Go to Utilities, Directory Utility, and under the edit menu, select enable root user, enter a unique password, later you can disable root login when your all done)
Logout of your new login and login as root with the new password you just created
When it prompts for a username type "root". If you don't have that option click the Other login and then type in root as the username and the new password.
Once your logged in as root, be careful as you can pretty much trash anything without any warnings.
Now Open your original user folder located in ~User/youraccount as well as the new user you just created
    (not the root account)
Open the folders side by side and drag the contents from old to new:
    Desktop
    Documents
    iTunes
    Movies
    Music
plus any other info you need.
Log back into your new user account, and run a repair permissions from disk utility.
Launch Entourage and enter a new event and contact. Then wait a few minutes and verify that it made it over to iCal & Address book.
If it did, and it should have, you can then import your entourage archives, do contacts first, then wait a few minutes and verify it shows up in Address Book, then do your Calendar events and verify.
When everything is syncing between entourage and iCal/Address Book you can connect your iPhone and enable syncing.
    A few important notes:
-If you have Years worth of Calendar Items in entourage, you will most likely run into problems, so archive your old Events and only restore that which you need.
-You may also need to retrieve old application preferences.
-Once your sure you've got everything, you can delete the Microsoft User Data Original folder that we renamed and put in your Documents Folder.
    Hope this helps somebody out.

Entourage calendar does not sync as you are expecting, with iCal.
Turn your Entourage sync services on (to sync your calendar) and you will notice in iCal a new calendar on the left, called Entourage. Mind has a purple color to it, for example.
Now, in iCal, create a new appointment and assign it TO the Entourage calendar. Now sync, and hey presto it shows up in Entourage.
This is by design, Entourage does not sync ALL of your iCal calendars, it will only sync the Entourage calendar which is created in iCal.
For example, I have Home, Work, Personal and Entourage calendars in iCal - appointments I make with my Home, Work or Personal calendar will not appear in Entourage, period. Only appointments made in iCal using the Entourage calendar will appear in Entourage (after a sync).
Likewise, appointments made IN Entourage Calendar, are sync'd to iCal and are only visible if you show the Entourage calendar in iCal - (it's switched ON by default, but can be switched off by un-ticking the calendar in the left pane of iCal).
    Does this make sense?
