ICal Alarm for birthdays

I am unable to set an alarm for birthdays. I cannot believe that this is not possible to do, anyone got any ideas?

Hi,
A lot of people on this forum seem to want this feature.
I have written an Applescript Studio application that duplicates the functioning of the birthdays calendar (syncing dates to iCal in the background), plus adding a lot of extra features, including alarms.
Dates to iCal automatically syncs your Address Book birthdays, anniversaries and custom dates to iCal, creating alarmed, editable events in a seperate calendar. With Dates to iCal you can:
- Add Address Book date events automatically to iCal.
- Choose which event types you want added (birthdays, custom dates or both).
- Have any type of alarm you like for the event, from a message to emailing a whole Address Book Group.
- Choose the notice in days and hours the alarms are set for.
- Manually make changes (i.e. adding notes) to these events.
- Add birthdays manually for people you don't have a seperate card for in Address Book.
It is freeware. To get a copy go to www.nhoj.co.uk.
Best wishes

  • ICal alarms for Birthdays

    Greetings,
I have read all the old posts about setting an alarm for birthdays and how this function seems at this point to be lacking. I even downloaded the wonderful little "plug-in" "dates-to-ical" and it works good but creates two different entrys under the date taking more space.
Has Apple made any moves to change this function yet and why can't this simple request be added?
    //Cheers

    Hi Julie,
it works good but creates two different entrys under the date taking more space.
This sounds like you are viewing the built in birthday calendar and the Dates to iCal calendar at the same time. Did you uncheck 'Show Birthdays calendar' in iCal's preferences while running Dates to iCal?
Dan, I agree this should be a built in feature of iCal.
    Best wishes

  • Ical alarms and birthdays...please help

I am trying to get all of my birthdays to use the same alarm settings. I went in and set up one persons birthday alarm setting but cant figure out how to get all of them to send an alarm without going to each and every birthday listing. I have a "calendar" set up called, Birthdays that they are all listed under. Is there an easy way to do this?

So, it sounds like I may have been experiencing the same problem as everyone else (general iCal alarm issues). The location of the preferences file you provided is exactly what I was looking for! I deleted the file, created a test event with an alarm a few mins in the future, and BAM! It worked! For the first time in over... a couple years now (?) I actually saw an iCal alarm.
Possible causes of my error: while i think it may have been upgrades, software bugs, mobileme, etc. it seems one unexplored possibility was when my machine ran out of a charge (batteries) and the date was reset to 1969. I checked the date of the file you mentioned above--crated date was 1969. So, it was cycling through hundreds of alarms since I got my machine (2004).
In short... THANK YOU FOR POSTING THAT LOCATION OF THAT FILE. I hope I am not speaking prematurely and that this issue does not crop up again. If so, at least I have a decent workaround. Cheers.

  • ICal - alarms for specific days (not dates)

I am very forgetful, and I often use iCal to make reminders for myself (using the alarm w/ sound). However, I often have weekly reminders at work. For example, I would back up our files at work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I was wondering if there is a feature in iCal that can set reminders for specific days of the week. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Create an event on tuesday, go to the repeat menu,
select custom, mark the days you want the event to be
(tuesday and thursday). Then go to the alarm menu ans
    set the sound you want.
Note: if you plan to sync to a palm device, the palm
doesn't accept events that repeat on specific
(multiple) days of the week, so create two events,
one that repeats every Tuesday and another for
    Thursday.
Thank you so much! You solved my problem! -Catherine

  • Can you set an alert for birthdays in Addressbook and iCal?

When I migrated from Palm Calendar to iCal, my calendar had my birthdays in it repeating each year and with a 7 day alert so I could send a card or get a present in time.
I see you can list a birthday in Addressbook and set the iCal pref to show them which is at first glance very cool and green but when I open the birthday event in iCal I don't see any way to set an alert which is a big limitation.
If I can't set alerts, then the Addressbook/iCal birthday syncing is kind of pointless and limited, unless I'm missing how to set alerts.

    Hi Steven,
This is one of the reasons why I wrote Dates to iCal.
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries.

  • Turning off iCal alarm...

How do you turn off the iCal alarm for holiday subscriptions?

Well I think atom has the same issue i have. I imported holidays into my everyday use calendar which by default adds a 15 alarm.  That means all the holiday, like yesterday's john f kennedy birthday and today's memorial day, being all day events, ring at 11:45 pm the night before, after I have gone to sleep!!!.
So other than deleting the events from my everyday calendar, which i want to have the default 15 alarm, and importing holidays into a holiday specific calendar, with no default reminder, is there an easier way to do it?

  • HT2488 How do I create an iCal Alarm to delay send an e-mail in my Drafts folder of Mail?

I've learned how to use iCal Alarm to schedule sending an e-mail.  However, all of the instructions I read say that I have to type the e-mail inside the automator's "New Mail Message". Is there a way to type the message in Mail, save it in drafts, and then create an iCal Alarm to schedule sending it?
I got as far as "Get Specified Mail Items" --> "Display Mail Messages".  This sequence displayed a message in Drafts.  What next to get it to send that message it displayed?  I tried adding "Send Outgoing Message" to the sequence with no success.  And I tried adding "New Mail Message" --> "Send Outgoing Message" to the sequence with no success.
Sometimes there will be several e-mails I want to delay send (some that I started earlier in the day, saved in Drafts and finished up in the wee hours of the morning) and it seems a waste to have to create a new iCal Alarm for each.
    Thank you!

  • ICal setting default message alarm for all events

I want to change when I get message/alarms for all events (birthdays, etc.) from 2 days before to 4 days before. I find that I can only change this for single events (e.g., a specific person's birthday rather than all persons' birthdays). Is there a way to change the default so that I get my warning alarm message for all events 4 days in advance instead of 2 days?

I miss appointments b/c of this too.
And no, Apple does not read these forums UNLESS you comment on how pathetic and Mickey Mouse certain elements of their software is - like no 'default' setting for alarms in iCal, and not being able to resize windows from all edges (vs. the little annoying corner) etc etc.
I hope they fix it with the new software package in Leopard. I'm somewhat afraid it's going to be 'Leper' at first though. We'll see...

  • Is there a way to get an alarm for my events for the iCal on the iPhone 4?

Is there a way to get an alarm for my events for the iCal on the iPhone 4?

    Greetings,
See page 113 of the iPhone 4 user manual: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
When you add an event to the Calendar.app of the iPhone 4 there is an "Alert" option which should give you the desired result.
    Cheers.

  • How can I remove default alarm for events in iCal on devices ios?

Whenever I add an event to my iCal calendar in Mounain Lion it will automatically add one default alert only on my iphone and ipad. These default alarms are not displayed on my macbook or icloud.com
Default alarms are disabled in macbook, icloud.com, and my ios devices.
How can I remove default alarm for events in iCal on devices ios?
Thanks and sorry for my english.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.8

OK, so I have had this issue for the past several months. I think it all started when I upgraded to ML from SL and migrated my calendars and contacts to iCloud. That was a couple months ago. But now I am running 10.8.2, and about two weeks ago I upgraded my iOS devices to 6.0.1.
I don't seem to be having any issues with events that I create now, but all those old events that were migrated to iCloud a couple months ago, many of those sound alerts on the iOS devices even though there was no alert defined when the event was originally created. I have always had alerts off by default both in iCal and on the iOS devices.
So here's the question: is there a way to go through and disable all these spurious event alerts? I've been disabling them as the event reminders come up, but it's irritating. It would be nice if there was a way to turn them off all in one shot somehow.

  • No Alarms Work/ical alarms not firing. I have a solution that worked for me

If anyone has had a look at this thread and still not found a solution...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1215043&start=30&tstart=0
    try this (busycal)...
    http://www.busymac.com/index.html
I was having serious problems with my iCal alarms. They just weren't firing reliably, and I tried so many things to get it fixed. Nothing worked until I installed busycal. it's perfect! It's been totally rock solid for 20 or so days and I just purchased a full licence. Has very neat features like LAN sharing and google cal syncing. Even if it didn't need these features, I'd still use it because I rely on alarms firing, and busycal does it without issues. Support is also excellent (they email quickly, with accurate/helpful replies, and they've even made suggestions to me about settings I can change to make everything run more smoothly. amazing!) the quality of support, frequent updates and reliable alarms is worth the small registration price along!
and no, i don't work for them, i'm just a very happy user and hopefully it will help some other frustrated ical users out there!
    alex =)

try busycal support. they really are excellent and i'm sure they can help u work towards a solution. click "email support" in the busycal help menu.

  • Ical disable alarms for group calendars

    hi there,
i have ical clients setup to access group calendars on a 10.6.2 server. is there a way to disable the alarms for wiki/group calendars?
    thanx

    Hi,
Open the calendar list in iCal and select the calendar so the background is blue. Press Cmd-I (or choose Get Info from the Edit menu). A sheet should open with the calendar info, there is an ignore alerts option there.
    Best wishes

  • Disable ical alarms temporarily (e. g. for 2 hours) by apple script ?

    Hi,
I'm searching for a way to disable the ical alarm pop-ups temporarily (e. g. for 2 hours).
Is there a way to do that?
    Why?
For people giving presentations with MS PowerPoint or Keynote it might be a problem if during the talk a window pops open - maybe even with private content..
I know that there is the option in the preferences, but once I used it I forgot to re-activate the alarms, so it would be better to define for how long the alarms will be disabled before.
Does anyone know how to do that?
If there's no complete solution, it would at least be interesting to know how to access this option by AppleScript.
    Martin

My iCal is up to date in OSX Lion and the script below is working for me. It doesn't actually take time into account, like beckmart had wanted and I'm not very applescript savvy so I just put it into an automator workflow using the script twice with a "pause" in between.
    tell application "iCal" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click menu item 3 of menu 1 of menu bar item 2 of menu bar 1
click button 3 of tool bar 1 of window 1
click checkbox 1 of window 1
click menu item 10 of menu 1 of menu bar item 3 of menu bar 1
    end tell
    tell application "iCal" to quit

  • Strange behavior for iCal alarms

To run an AppleScript from an iCal alarm you do the following:
In Automator, create a Calendar Alarm
Select Utilities from the library pane
Select & drag Run AppleScript into the workflow area
Copy/paste an AppleScript into the Run AppleScript box
Save the newly created Calendar Alarm with name (e.g. ArchNew)
This will open the Automator Calendar in iCal
Edit the Date/Time/Repeat/...... as you want as shown in the example below
The resulting AppleScript will be stored here
    /Users/<user_acct>/Library/Workflows/Applications/Calendar/ArchNew.app
    Now the problem
If at a later time you want to modify the AppleScript ArchNew.app using the AppleScript Editor, it will break the binding between the iCal alarm and the AppleScript ArchNew.app
The only way I've been able to do this is delete the file
    /Users/<user_acct>/Library/Workflows/Applications/Calendar/ArchNew.app
and then go back to #1 above and repeat the whole process with the modified AppleScript.
Does anyone know why the simple approach of directly editing and saving the changes to the AppleScript ArchNew.app doesn't work?

You still haven't provided your 4 digit Oracle version or the TABLE and INDEX DDL.
Your 'problem' could be nothing more than DEFERRED SEGMENT creation where Oracle doesn't allocate space until the first data is added for that segment.
See 'Understanding Deferred Segment Creation' in the DBA Guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/tables002.htm#CHDGJAGB
    >
    Understand Deferred Segment Creation
Beginning with Oracle Database 11g Release 2, when you create heap-organized tables in a locally managed tablespace, the database defers table segment creation until the first row is inserted.
In addition, segment creation is deferred for any LOB columns of the table, any indexes created implicitly as part of table creation, and any indexes subsequently explicitly created on the table.
    Note:
In Release 11.2.0.1, deferred segment creation is not supported for partitioned tables. This restriction is removed in release 11.2.0.2 and later.
    >
That is why it is MANDATORY that posters provide their 4 digit Oracle versions. There are too many features that depend on the version being used.
