ICal alarm turns on music playback

I have an iPod Touch with the iPhone headphones that I leave plugged in when I put the iPod on my desk for the day. Since I sync my iCal calendar to the iPod for reference, it brings up reminder alarms on the iPod from time to time during the day. I'd like to be able to turn off the iPod calendar alarms, but I don't mind them so much.
What I do mind is that when the calendar alarm fires, music playback pops on. Once I notice a loud song playing through the headphones laying on my desk I need to turn the thing on to turn the music off.

Presuming that is not active?
Another way - allow the music to play for a bit
Then unlock the phone and use app switcher - double tap of home button - to see what all is running - while mail or weather apps may not be able to play music - I am sure you will find something in there that was

  • Firefox's Media Foundation support breaks music playback and turning it off doesn't do anything.

A friend sent me an MP3 link about a month ago, and I was confused when Firefox told me the file was corrupt. I figured it was just the server it was on.
Then, I stopped being able to listen to music posted through Tumblr. I figured they just updated their player and broke something.
Then I tried listening directly to an MP3 on another site tonight, and again, Firefox told me "Video can't be played because the file is corrupt." I dashed around to a handful of other sites and every single one of them told me the same thing when I tried to play an MP3 file.
After doing some investigation, I learned that the Firefox team has tried to implement their own internal music playback system that either can't find a codec or isn't detecting these files as music properly. Now, a long time ago, I got pretty used to all these files playing through Quicktime, to the point where I would specifically install Quicktime with each version of Windows just to restore this functionality. But now Firefox is overriding that functionality for some reason.
The culprit seemed to be the option "media.windows-media-foundation.enabled", which I promptly disabled. Didn't help. Firefox is still insisting that these files are corrupt instead of letting Quicktime handle them.
This site also suggested turning plugins.load_appdir_plugins to true, but that didn't help, either.
It would seem Firefox is intentionally relying on a part of Windows that I don't have, because I'm still stuck on Windows XP (video capture hardware I depend on doesn't have drivers for Vista on up). The annoying part is that I can't seem to change it back to the way it was, and I'm pretty angry because this has broken a significant portion of the internet for me.

That seems to have done the trick! Thanks a million.

  • Turning off iCal alarm...

How do you turn off the iCal alarm for holiday subscriptions?

Well I think atom has the same issue i have. I imported holidays into my everyday use calendar which by default adds a 15 alarm.  That means all the holiday, like yesterday's john f kennedy birthday and today's memorial day, being all day events, ring at 11:45 pm the night before, after I have gone to sleep!!!.
So other than deleting the events from my everyday calendar, which i want to have the default 15 alarm, and importing holidays into a holiday specific calendar, with no default reminder, is there an easier way to do it?

  • ICal alarm shutting me down

I am pretty sure I will be reinstalling Leopard because of a reoccurring iCal alarm that pops up randomly several times a day. I thought I would check to see if you geniuses had any ideas, The Apple geniuses felt I would be better off starting over.
If I put the laptop to sleep the alarm always appears when when the computer is re-woken this also happens on restarts. The alarm has no content in the window that appears but it is a complete processor hog, if I walk away from the computer while it has become active it will grind the machine to a complete stop. Activity monitor will show the memory use for the process steadily climbing to over a gig. The only way to close it is to run a script that I have called "kill ical widow" which was created for me by a apple genius. Any ideas?

Okay, the only fix that eventually came from this, just to wrap things up for educational purposes... I finally had to bring in to a Mac Genius appt., and after keeping my computer for five days, they reinstalled the OS. And to be sure this never happens again, I've also turned off all alarms as suggested. Reinstalling the OS (am now at 10.5.6) has brought a whole other host of problems. They initially returned my laptop with none of my data on it, and I lost all of my additional programs I'd installed on the computer, some of which I don't have authorization codes or discs for anymore. And iTunes has yet to "find" any of my music (or all of my playlists for that matter), despite all the normal fixes. Going back for 3rd Mac Genius appt. today. Very frustrated. But word to the wise: do NOT allow a Mac Genius that may or may not know what they're doing to reinstall your OS without properly backing up your computer. I couldn't back mine up for a while b/c this iCal alarm issue was disabling to the point I could not even open anything on the computer anymore. But please do yourself a favor, and get a back-up and run it ROUTINELY!!!

  • How can I get iCal alarm to sync with my iPhone 4?

My iCal alarm won't sync with my iPhone 4 if I add the event using iCal on my Mac. I find that if I set an alarm on iCal, I only get an alert on my computer. If I add an event on my iPhone, I get a pop up alarm on both the phone and the computer. I want to be able to add an event on my computer and get an alert on both devices. Is this option even possible?

Turn up the alert volume all the way in Sounds.   Lock it so you can't change it with the buttons.

  • CK-200 poor music playback quality

Hi, I've just installed the car kit CK-200 (ISO cable version) into my car and I'm very disappointed by the music playback quality.
I have Nokia C7 with the latest firmware (14.002) and I have also updated the car kit firmware into 3.0.
There's no problem with the phone call quality - I would say it is comparable to the other car kits (for example to CK-7W I've had before), but if I want to use it for playing music, it still plays it in "phone call-like" quality. I have tried different players, but no success - still the same low quality.
If I turn the FM transmitter on and tune up the car radio to the transmitters' frequency, I get much better quality then via this car kit (although sometimes it's noisy from other broadcasting radios).
In the product description of this CK-200 they highlight very good sound quality thanks to some DSP technology - I hope there's more than this.
Do you have any idea what might be the problem here?

    Hi
The CK-200 is a mono output car kit that is only designed for calls, not music.
If a handset is playing music via the mono Bluetooth channel, this is a fluke, and not part of the design of the handset.
The CK-100, 300, 600 are all stereo car kits with music capability.
The DSP settings on the CK-200 manage the voice vs background noise in the car so the driver can be heard more clearly by the other caller.

  • Ical alarm is silent

My iCal alarm works except there is no sound. Just the alarm window with a pulsating alarm clock. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try Turning Up the Volume, when the head phones arent plugged in.
same thing happenened to me and this worked

  • ICal alarm malfunction

My alarms work fine if I happen to have the computer on when the alarms go off. But, if an alarm is scheduled to go off at 4pm, for example, for an evening event, and I turn the computer on at 4:30, the alarm does not go off. This has caused me a few problems with missed meetings.
I have the "turn alarms off when computer is off" box unchecked. Both iCal and iCal alarm scheduler are in my startup items. I have tried deleting all iCal plists, and the cache file, and restarting with no success.
What am I missing? any suggestions?

A Eureka! For some reason, on this Mac, if I check the preference box "turn off alarms when iCal is not open" it works fine. Now, if I have an alarm set to go off at 10:00am and I start up my computer at say 10:30am, the 10am alarm shows up just fine.
The wording on this preference is a bit confusing, but from other discussion comments, it seems that other Macs are working with the box unchecked.
    Anyway, I'm a happy camper.

  • Bluetooth Buzz during music playback - iPhone 6

I am using an iPhone 6 - paired to a pioneer FH-X720BT car stereo.  About 5 minutes after bluetooth music playback starts I get a very loud buzz for about 5 seconds.  A moment after this all sound stops for a second.  Then music resumes.  This does not repeat until the stereo is turned off and then on again.  Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix it.  Is it a Pioneer stereo problem or is it an iPhone 6 problem?  I have not had the same problem with an older iPhone 4s.

Same issue here with iPhone 6 iOS 8.1.3 and now with iOS 8.2.  New Pioneer DEH6700BS.  Took back to shop and had new deck replaced - SAME ISSUE. Mine is around 7:30 minute and same drop out right after that as you are seeing.  I have tested with iPod Touch and my son's iPhone 5C and I don't get this issue despite multiple testing scenarios.  Looks like the common denominator is the iPhone 6.

  • Working around iCal alarm failure.

Although I really like iCal, I gave up using it because alarms don't work if iCal is not turned on.
The other day, I had a minor inspiration! I set iCal to turn on automatically, whenever I logged on. Thus, I get any overdue reminders immediately after I log on.
A charming additional benefit, is that the date shows in the Dock. As I choose to run 24 hour digital time in the menu bar, I'm delighted with having the date in the Dock.

    Dayna,
    Glad to help.
In your post, you wrote " I can't remember how to turn on the application at start up. " . That's simple. Just click iCal in the Dock. However, that misses my point about turning it on automatically. My way saves 1. remembering to turn it on 2. the action of turning it on.
Here is what you do to turn it on automatically:
Click Apple symbol > click System Preferences > under System click Accounts > select the account > click the Login Items tab > click the plus button below the list of programs. That will cause a list of program names to show. Click the iCal program name, then click Add. All done!

  • Choppy Music playback with other programs running

Have a question on Itunes 7 playback. I frequently play games (mainly WOW) with the sound on, but at a low level. I then run Itunes in the background at a high volume level so I can listen to music. My computer is high end and I never had any problems doing this before. Now that I have upgraded to 7 the music is very choppy if the game is sending any sound output to the sound card. As soon as i turn in game sound off, the music playback is fine. Any ideas besides reverting to 6?

Rolling back to 6 won't fix every thing, I rolled back..iTunes seams to work but programs that use to work using quicktime still have the jittery, jerky sound affects.
It was a Reason Ask DVD Video (uses QT.7 that ran fine up until iTunes 7 was installed) run the dvd and any narration gets screwed up when you roll over the application button rollovers, so it has basically stuffed up the system sound, then the video has a hard time trying to catchup.

  • ICal Alarms are unreliable.  Some show up, some don't.  How to fix?

My iCal alarms are unreliable.  Some work and some never show up.  I've even copied and pasted an event from one place to another, and on the new date, it didn't work.

It depends on the way you told iTunes to sort your music.
It mostly happens with mp3's from friends, as some software does not put the mp3 tags in as iTunes do, cause there are different mp3-tag versions out there.
For example, if you choose in iTiunes to sort by Album Name, all songs without a matching entry in the "Album Name" field where sorted to "unknown album" or "build up a different album" if only some "Album Name" entry's are different.
Also, if no Artist Name is set in the informations, the tracks will get sort to "unknown artist"
As said before, put all songs from the album in question into a playlist and edit the information to be the same on every track.
You may also mark all traks from the album at once, right click, choose information and put the correct Album name in the field.

  • IPhone 4S - after 6.1.1 update, cannot adjust ringer volume, and odd music playback behaviour

This is a minor issue that'll probably end up in the hands of some apple tech, but I'm curious to see if anyone else is experiencing this.
After updating my phone to 6.1.1, I noticed that occasionally I did not hear anything when playing music through earphones. An attmept to adjust the volume simply displayed the "ringer" icon and no volume meter. When I launch a new song from stopped (not paused), there was no sound or any ability to control it. I unplugged the earphones; the play icon remained, it normally disappears indicating a pause. Plugged back in and music started coming through.
Text/Ring tones are still audible; good because I use it as an alarm clock. The phone is behaving as though it were "docked" though the music playback thing is just weird. I haven't tried playing music while it is actually docked yet.
Will try a restore tonight after work.

Ok, so I found this thread in another part of the forum and thought "hey maybe I should try that". I borrowed a can of compressed air from the IT guys and fired it into my phone's dock port. A few particles of who-knows-what came flying out. I've been testing it pretty thoroughly for the past hour, so far it seems to be back to normal. How a dirt particle can short the docking circuitry into thinking it's docked, I have no idea, I'm not an electronics expert...
Anyone having the same issue, go grab a can of compressed air, blow it into your phones ports (both dock and headphone jack), or try the toothbrush thing in the above link. If you use a dock regularly, keep it clean!

  • Fluctuating audio output level during music playback on iPhone 6

    Hi,
When playing music on my iPhone 6 the volume level of the music suddenly drops sometimes and takes ages to go back to the original level. It doesn't matter whether I'm listening to music through my headphones, or when docked to a speaker or via airplay: the problem eventually happens (usually within 5mins). I've tried a factory reset, and I've tried a settings reset but neither of them worked. All I can think of at the moment is that there is an application running in the background that is interfering with music playback. Will try each one in turn and report back. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have three other iOS8 devices (various iPad mini models) where this problem does not occur.
    Thanks and regards, Keri
    P. S. This problem happened with iOS8 before upgrading to 8.1.2.

"How would I know which all apps render audio?  Any shortcut to find out?"
No shortcut. You have to see whether they play audio or not. That simple. For example, Skype does.

  • ICal Alarms Request

Use my MBP all the time while teaching classes. Please give more choices for the iCal alarms. I have to turn them off when I'm teaching because I don't want them popping up during class on the projection screen. But then I don't remember to turn it back on after class. Days go by and I forget the alarms function is off and miss all kinds of alerts. The previous version had an option to only allow alarms to come on if iCal itself was running. Much better. Please bring that back or something even better. Thanks!
