ICal Alarms & .mac sync

I'm using .mac to keep my calendars on my desktop mac and my powerbook in sync. I've got a calendar in iCal made up entirely of events with email alarms. I'd prefer that only my desktop mac send out the email reminders, and was wondering if anybody had a clever idea how to go about this....
* I've tried to see if I could not sync the "reminder" calendar to my powerbook, but haven't been successful at finding a way to choose which calendars I want sync'ed.
* I've tried to see if there was a way to entirely disable reminders on my powerbook (not just when iCal isn't running), also unsuccessful.
Does anybody know if either of these things are possible, or have any other ideas how I might do this?
Thanks!

This won't work if you need to sync both ways but a possibility is to publish from desktop and subscribe from laptop. You can choose not to publish alarms when publishing calendars.
Too bad this wasn't an option with under isync as it certainly makes sense. This is clearly something to send Apple iCal Feedback. And, unfortunately you can't sync just some calendars (another Feedback/Suggestion)

  • How can I get iCal alarm to sync with my iPhone 4?

My iCal alarm won't sync with my iPhone 4 if I add the event using iCal on my Mac. I find that if I set an alarm on iCal, I only get an alert on my computer. If I add an event on my iPhone, I get a pop up alarm on both the phone and the computer. I want to be able to add an event on my computer and get an alert on both devices. Is this option even possible?

Turn up the alert volume all the way in Sounds.   Lock it so you can't change it with the buttons.

  • Duplicated events on iCal after .mac sync

    Thre facts:
    I have a TREO600, a desktop mac, and a powerbook, both running Tiger 10.4.4.
Due to some other problems with syncing the TREO, I have purchased the Missing Sync from MarkSpace, and that works very well to sync the palm with the desktop.
I started syncing my two computers with .mac lately, and I have nothing but trouble. Nearly every sync throws up some conflicts, often about events that have long passed. I went through the long list of conflicts EVERY time this happens, but iSync seems to complain about new conflict nearly everytime I sync.
Moreover, it seems to duplicate certain (but not all) events on my iCal after it has synced with .mac.
This is super annoying. I have seen that there are many different posts on duplication already, but none of them seem to match my problem, though there definetly seems to be a general problem with iSync not being very good at checking for duplicates.
Any ideas how to solve this?
    thanks,
    marc

Because you are running the Missing Sync for Palm OS in a Mac OS X 10.4 or later environment, the synchronization of your data is a separate process controlled by .Mac Sync. In order to correct the issue, you should perform a reset, replacing all of the records on .Mac with the records from iCal and the Address Book, which should, incidently, be contemporaneous with your Treo 600 smartphone.
To do that, launch System Preferences and select the .Mac pane. Press the Advanced tab, then the Reset Sync Data… button in the lower left corner of the dialog box. Reserve the default directional data transfer from .Mac to your machine by pressing the right-facing arrow beneath the .Mac icon. This will shift directional flow so that data moves from your computer to the .Mac servers. You can keep the Replace: All Sync Data value in the drop-down menu above, or choose to synchronize only one data type [Calendars or Contacts] by selecting the appropriate value. If you synchronize them separately, you must repeat this process for the other data type.
This event will transfer a complete set of records from iCal and the Address Book to the appropriate storage locations on the .Mac servers, replacing the non-matching data currently stored there. It will not affect your continued use of the Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks menu, and will not change the data stored on your handheld the next time you synchronize.

  • Ical after .mac sync how to combine calendars

For some reason I got duplicate calendars (for example 2 work calendars) after syncing with my desktop and my laptop. So my laptop ical has 2 work calendars with different items on them (still related to work) and one of them has older material which might have been on .mac anyway. Is there a way I can merge two calendars together to make one (both calendars in same category like work). thanks, kate

katefu, try the export and import approach on this thread, it worked perfectly for me, and then I just deleted the originally exported calendar.

  • One iCal - Several Macs - Sync

Is there a way to sync iCal across several MACs?    I have two iMAcs and one Mac Book.   I want to have a common iCal on all three devices.

That's exactly what iCloud does. You need to log into the same iCloud account on each mac and ensure that calendar syncing is enabled on each.
By the way your profile states you are using Leopard, you cannot use iCloud on Leopard, you need Lion.

  • ICal Alarms Across Synced Devices

My wife and I use iCal and have it synced to all our devices and it works well for our needs other than my wife is tired of getting all my alarms for my events on her devices.  I have set up individual calendars for each of us in iCal.  Is there a way to turn of my calendar alarms for her but still allow her to see the events?

Software is not designed to oblige.

  • ICal and .Mac sync...arrgh

First...I am newbie to Macs. Trying to sync my iMac and Powerbook using .Mac. How do I get each to show as a registed computer?
Each computer has a .Mac account
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    skookum,
There is no need for an additional/separate .Mac account on each computer. Each computer should be registered/signed-in using the same .Mac account.
Additionally, the computers that you use for syncing must have different names.
Use the intructions for "Unregister and re-register the computer under a new name." provided in: iSync: How to troubleshoot sync issues related to .Mac

  • I can't seem to update icloud's calendar via my iPhone's calendar. Also, iCal on Mac follows iCloud so when I sync iPhone to Mac it becomes a even more confusing situation...

Pardon my ignorance. I have scoured the forums and no one seem to touch on the exact subject I am talking about.
I can't seem to update iCloud's calendar via my iPhone's calendar with all connectivity turned on (sync, push, pull, slap whatsoever).
Also, iCal on Mac follows iCloud (sluggishly and not due to connection problem, so i'd nice to have a status bar telling me whether or not it's active and doing some updating) so when I sync iPhone to Mac it becomes a even more confusing situation...
    Simplified version:
-Events created on the iphone doesnt get on icloud.
-When iphone is synced with ical on mac and changes are made on Mac, changes are not immediately reflected on iphone unless clicked "sync"
-I just want to view a live ical at all times without going to safari and opening up the web iCal. I want to view a 100% live iCal on the native iCal via iPhone. Like google docs! Is that too much to ask!?
Iphone seemed to have a "push" or "sync in this many minutes" option for iCal, but that seemed like it's only receiving changes, and not send out changes made via phone. Very confusing, very annoying!

Download iTunes using the tab at the top of this page. Then run the update with iTunes closed.

  • ICal events changing duration and start time after .Mac sync

I sync two OS X Tiger computers (10.4.2) using .Mac to keep my iCal calendars in order. Certain events following a certain date are mutating with longer durations and different start times after syncing between the two computers.
    Anyone experiencing the same problem?
    Any ideas?

    Two different problems here:
    Try one at a time:
Quit iCal. Delete iCal preferences in your User Library: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist ( you'll have to reset iCal prefs after)
For those having problems with .Mac sync, reset the sync System Preferences/ .Mac/ Advanced tab.
    Come back with results

  • Ical on iphone does not sync with ical on mac, but the mac does it!

My ical on my iphone does not sync with ical on mac using MobileMe, but reverse it works very well.
so typing an new event in ical on my phone will NOT appear in ical at my computer. Typing a new event on my mac, than within 10 seconds it appears on my phone.
anybody know how to resolve this? never had the problem before
problem 2: ical on my iphone seems to duplicate a lot of events. Non of them are duplicated on my computer.
    related problem?
    thank
    Hein

I have solved my problem - don't know if yours is the same. I noticed on iPhone, when I listed the calendars there are two sections: the top line showed "All Calendars ->"; when I click on that I get duplicate entries for everything.
    Below that is:
    "From My Mac.
"All from My Mac ->", followed by a list of individual calendars. When I clicked on that I got single entries.
This led me to realize that in my Settings ->Accounts I had the old "...mac.com" a/c and new "..me.com" a/c. I had thought it didn't matter.
Once I eliminated the "mac.com" A/c, I had only one set of calendars.
    Hope this helps you.

  • IPod Touch iOS 4.2.1, Mac OS 10.6.8. ICal will not sync after a restore of iPod Touch. What's up?

iPod Touch (iOS 4.2.1) second generation; Mac (OS 10.6.8). After a restore, the iCal no longer syncs, Contacts do not sync, etc. What gives?

    Greetings,
Sounds like something is wrong with the sync history.
    Troubleshooting:
    1.) Backup all your data:
    Backup your iPhone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
    Backup your calendars on MobileMe.
    Follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4226
Go to "backing up data" and then "Backing up from me.com/calendar"
2.) Reset the computer's sync services and then restart the computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
3.) Plug in the iPhone and attempt a sync.
If that does not resolve the issue, where is the information "good", on the iPod Touch or the computer and are you using MobileMe to sync or do you just plug in your usb cable.
    Hope that helps.

  • ICal no longer syncing with .Mac between Leopard and previous OS

    hi,
Two Mac's, both new-ish. When I had the previous OS running on both, my iCal syncing worked great through .Mac. However, I have recently upgraded to Leopard on just one of these machines. Now, the machine with the previous OS will not sync to the one running Leopard, however, the Leopard one will sync to the other one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks so much!

I was having the same problems you describe and after trying suggestions from a variety of posts in the discussion forum, here's what worked for me because simply unregistering and resetting sync data didn't solve the problem.
While I'm sure a few steps could be left out, what seemed to make all the difference was
    a. getting rid of groups of calendars and
    b. not simply reseting the data but deleting and reimporting it from the "master" computer
    1. I made sure one of my computers had complete and updated calendars (the iBook running 10.5.1)
    2. I had clustered my calendars into sub-groups, so I ditched that level of organization so everything was on the same level and created a backup database (thus my iBook became my "master")
    3. I exported each of my calendars individually (i.e. "Home.ics" "Work.ics" etc.)
    4. On the Mini (running 10.4.11), I deleted all my calendars (except for my subscriptions) and unregistered the Mini from .Mac syncing
    5. I imported each of the calendar from the iBook into iCal on my Mini so that I had the same data on both computers
    6. After restarting both machines for good measure, I reset the iCal sync data on .Mac using the info on my iBook, then registered my Mini, and reset the iCal using data from .Mac to overwrite the Mini
    7. I rebooted again, set up test events (in different calendars) on each computer, synchronized, and voila!

  • ICal alarm does not wake up mac

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up alarm in iCal to launch app at scheduled time. It works when the mac is up and running. But if mac was sleeping at the scheduled time, alarm is missed.
I've read from somewhere that the new iCal in Leopard is able to wake up mac from sleep. Is it negative?
    Thanks,
    ner

I don't believe it will wake the machine up. But what you can do is set a Wake time in the Energy Preferennces to wake the machine up a minute or two before the scheduled ical alarm.

  • Error when trying to sync iCal and .mac

    Hi all
I'm running iCal 2.0.3 on an iBook with 10.4.3. Every time I try to sync iCal via .Mac, I get the following error:
The protocol „/tmp/gs/isync/3rFduE“ could not be copied or moved to „/Users/gs/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/Compat/DotMacPAPIClient/com.apple.DotMacLegacy/Input /37CFD216-92B7-11D8-9634-003065B36BBE.D000.CLOG“.
(Note: The error message was translated from german).
I trashed the iCal prefs, caches, the folder ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/SyncService and ~/Library/iCal to no avail. Sync works perfect on any other of my Macs, it's just this iBook.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Tina

Never mind - had to do a reinstall anyway, now it works.
