ICal and access to Public Calendars on Exchange

Dear all
I've been reading as much as I can on this subject, and all I've found so far is that it works, but you need Exchange 2007 and SP2. Well, I've finally been able to upgrade my exchange 2007 server to SP2, but now I can't find any documentation on how you actually access those public calendars.
By public calendars, I mean that calendars stored in the Public Folders tree on the exchange server, not calendars associated with a mailbox or resource mailbox.
Things I've tried,
- Subscribing to the calendar using the OWA web address of the calendar - failed
- Setting up delegate access, but only mailbox calendars are shown - failed
- Tried removing and recreating my Mail/iCal/Address book settings in Snow Leopard, no change - failed
I hope I'm just missing something, and that this is actually possible to do.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Same problem here. I previously used Entourage (2004) and had access to the public calendar (we'll call it "Jumper"), but I get an error when trying to connect to Jumper in iCal. When I try to connect I get "The server responded with an error: There was an unexpected error with the request (domain EWSExchangeWebServicesErrorDomain / error 94)." I notice when I go to the "Window" menu there are several listings of Jumper (I'm assuming each failed attempt created a window). Selecting those windows opens a blank calendar with Jumper listed in the left column and the exclamation point next to it. Clicking the exclamation point brings up the message "iCal can't refresh the account 'Jumper'." I'd hate to go back to Entourage as well, especially since the version our company provides is PPC based.
I'm not sure, but it could be in my case it's because the host of the public calendar may still be in the old email server (2003). They had to move my account over to the 2007 server in order for iCal to work with it. Don't know if this helps anyone else, but I'm going to request that the host be moved to the 2007 server and see what happens. I'll report back on my findings.

  • Exchange Server and Remote Access to Public Calendar

    Hello:
We use Outlook 2010 with Exchange Server at the 45 person architecture firm I work at.
We have a public calendar (set up in public folders) that is used by staff to note their time away from the office (doctor’s appt, vacation, client meeting, etc). The owner of the company wants to be able to remotely access that public calendar to be
able to know when staff are out of the office.  Can it be set up on his Surface 2 or phone (iPhone) so that when he’s not in the office, he can see that public calendar?
I’ve search online and from what I can tell, the only way to make it work is with third party software.
Is that true?  Or is there another way to make it work?  Is VPN an option?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm going to attempt to activate Anywhere soon, probably early next week. I found a site that does a step-by-step of the Anywhere setup and I have a couple of questions based on those steps (here's the site - http://exchangeserverpro.com/how-to-configure-exchange-server-2010-outlook-anywhere/)
After the Anywhere wizard opens, it says this - "The external host name you choose should ideally be one that is already included in the Exchange certificate configured on the Client Access server. Otherwise you will need to create a new certificate for
Exchange." So I can name the external host, where do I find the Exchange cert? When accessing the firewall to allow Anywhere through, it says this: To enable remote Outlook users to connect to Outlook Anywhere the perimeter firewall for the network must
be configured to allow the SSL/HTTPS connections to pass through to the Client Access server. The precise steps for this will depend on which firewall you are using in your environment. However the basic components of this configuration are: •A public DNS
record for the external host name you are using for Outlook Anywhere •A public IP address on the firewall that the public DNS record resolves to •A NAT or publishing rule to allow SSL/HTTPS connections to reach the Client Access server

  • Will CF9 cfexchangecalendar access public calendars in Exchange Server 2007?

We need to create something in CF9 that will allow us to access public calendars in Exchange Server 2007. I've Googled it but only come up with dead ends. Any help would be appreciated.

I ran into the same situation recently, and found out that you need to make sure InternalClientsRequireSSL is set to false.
To verify: Run Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl Identity, *ssl
If it is true, try setting it to false.

  • Get Public Calendar from Exchange

The "experts" said it can't be done, but we downloaded Add2Exchange from diditbetter.com and set up syncing relationships between our Private calendars and our Public calendar, where all our corporate appointments are kept. Now our Public info syncs with our iPhones. GREAT STUFF! You also can use the software to sync Private/Public Contacts and Tasks.
We are in our 21-day trial period, but it looks like we will be purchasing this Exchange add-in. If you need iPhone access to your Public folders, have your Exchange Administrator look into the program.
Just thought I'd share this for those who want to know how to sync with Public folders.
BTW, I have hated the iPhone since getting it last year, but the 2.0 software has significantly changed my opinion. It's pretty darned cool stuff now.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to add a public folder outlook calendar to a SharePoint site.
I recommend to overlay an Exchange calendar on a SharePoint calendar.
There are two articles for your reference, although it is about the SharePoint 2010, it still works for SharePoint 2013.
Overlay a SharePoint calendar with a calendar from Exchange or SharePoint
    SharePoint and Exchange Calendar together
In addition, you can manually drag and drop the appointment from your personal calendar to the SharePoint calendar.

  • ICal and .Mac - using the calendar on the Web

I had fondly imagine when I filled out my calendar on my home Mac and published it to .Mac that I could not only view it when I am at work (where I have to use a pc) but also add in calendar info that I have have access to only when I am at work, so that the calendar is complete.
If this is meant to be possible I haven't figured out how -can any one help?
If not possible it does seem to detract quite significantly from what might otherwise be a useful tool. In fact I can't imagine why this ability would not be built in as it seems starkly obvious that if you have access to your calendar over the web, you must want to be be able to edit it over the web?? Or have I missed something?

If there's a way to share out Outlook calendars with our iCal calendars I swear I'd do a happy dance.

  • Is it possible to access the Public Folders in Exchange 2013 during a migration from Exchange 2007 to verify the files are there?

This is a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  We're in the middle of migrating the Public Folders.  Is it possible to configure a database to point to the Exchange 2013 public folders so I can verify the data before the final cut?
If so what are the steps to do that?  Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge no.  It's an all or nothing thing with public folders.

  • Want to SAVE Old ical, and create a NEW Calendar???????

    Hi there,
I am a school teacher and I used ical a lot this year. However, this September, I have a whole new bunch of courses.
Is there a way, to 'save' my 2005-6 calendar (with all my course due dates, all colour co-ordinated etc), and to create a totally new calendar?
Every time I click on 'new calendar', it just creates another blank box under 'calendar', but my old ones are just above it.
Does this make any sense? i'll see if I can do a screen capture shot. In the meantime if anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated
    thanks

    Hi George,
You would be well advised to back up all your data regularly.
About to backing up iCal specifically as an archive of events, there absolutely is no reason not to do this annually.
As to how you organise your calendars, this depends on many factors including how many different types of class you run and if they can sensibly be divided into groups.
Group calendars are intended to define groups of calendars and moving calendars into groups should not affect the colouring of the events. An advantage of groups is that you can show and hide all of the sub calendars in one go.
Take a look at iCal Help (in iCal's Help menu) for more info.
    Best wishes

  • ICal and Oracle's Corporate Calendar

Does anybody know if it is possible to set up iCal to use oracle's Corporate Calendar?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I don't believe so, though only Oracle support personnel could probably tell you for sure. There is hope in the near term, however, as both Apple and Oracle are members of CalConnect, the calendar and scheduling consortium:
    http://www.calconnect.org
Mac OS X 10.5 will ship early next year with iCal, Teams and the iCal Server components, will will be CalDAV compliant. It's the emerging calendaring standard being jointly developed by CalConnect members. In addition, Apple is already shipping an open-source version of the technology incorporated in iCal Server.
So, it shouldn't be long now…

  • How do I get Siri to put appointments on iCal and not to Google Calendar?

When I give Siri the command to schedule appointment, the appointment is put on my google calendar and not my iCal. How do I change this?

See if you have selected your "iCal" calendar as your default calendar in settings (Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar).

  • Updated iCal and lost all recent calendar entries/schedules...

hello, i did about 1 hour of editing and updating and adding new events on my iCal today. And for the first time, i accessed my iCal from the web, and it looked good and accurate. A few hours later, I decided to reply to the iCal update prompt, and so I clicked update. I opened up iCal after the update and all recent edits/additions I made early today, were all gone. Even after I restarted the computer. Very, very stupid. This is why people are so skeptical with updates. Can someone help? This seems like an issue that would happen 10 years ago, not today. Thank you!!
Also, can we no longer browse the categories of discussions to see if our question can be answered by previous posts? I clicked on "browse" in the top right corner of the discussion page where the "new" and "my stuff" links are, and it went straight to a page that had no category options. Just all posts, of all topics. Thanks again....

oh my goodness..... and now, there is a duplicate color in the 3 categories of events within iCal (personal, work, and home).
Personal, and Work are both green now.
Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of different colors?
    what is going on here?

  • Ical and G3 iphone   Some calendars do not sync.

    Hello,
I am trying to sync my iphone to my computer. when i sync only certain calendars show up in my computer. Yes, I have checked itunes. I have "sync all" still certain calendars do not show up. I have selected the Calendar Name on itunes (that is not syncing) and done a "selected" sync...that does not work either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi 2Borno28;
Thanks that worked for me. When I was reimporting my calendar events after creating the calendars again one of my calendars reported that I had unsafe alarms in that calendar and wanted to know if I wanted them copied also. I said no and the next sync to my iPhone worked correctly.
It appears that on/or about the time I upgraded to Leopard I had managed to create unsafe alarms what ever they are. I had been unfairly blaming this problem on Leopard ever since.
Thanks. I only wish I could give you a star for that one.

  • All the dates I have put on my Ical and even on the calendar of Iphone are disappeard, please help, all the dates I have put on my Ical and even on the calendar of Iphone are disappeard, please help

  • Can I sync my iPhone calendar with exchange server AND ical on my mac ?

I have been happily using my iPhone synced with my Macbook over usb via iTunes.
I have contacts and iCal syncing. I have a number of 'calendars' set up in iCal which allow me to view separate aspects of home and work but they all exist within iCal. iPhone just treats these as colour coded appointments (different colour for each ical calendar)
I really like this set up.
However, I just changed jobs to a firm where they have a hosted outlook exchange set up and I need to use the exchange calendar for work appointments and showing my availability.
I have managed to setup my iPhone to work with the Exchange server for email as well as in apple Mail on my mac. This has all worked fine. However, I hesitated when iPhone asked if i wanted to sync my contacts and calendar. I said no as I was unsure if my private calendar/contacts would be uploaded to the public work area.
In fact it seems that this is the least of my worries:
As I have read on apple support for iPhone:
"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."
So I am really pleased that I didn't let it sync those and wipe out my personal data if that is really true.
But now I am unsure how best to enable myself to view and update the work calendar on exchange.
Also it would be nice to see work contacts on my iPhone.
    Contacts
    - although i have said no to sync contacts with Exchange in fact it looks like I can get contacts ok - when i send email from the Exchange account on the phone , it searches Exchange contacts on the server as i type in the TO box.
    - also in Contacts on the iPhone I have a new group that has been created with the name of my Exchange account. The group appears to be blank when you go into it on the phone, but you can type in the search box and get contact details from the server just fine.
This seems workable for now for my purposes, although updating contacts is not going to be possible that way.
I'd like more info on that if poss but more importantly..
    Calendar
    - Unlike Contacts, no Calendar has been auto created for Exchange
    - Unlike contacts, I can't see how I can view or search or create an appointment in my Exchange calendar on the iPhone
What is the best solution to this problem - I presume lots of people face the same dilemma. My initial research suggests that there are multiple ways round this but all of them look like workarounds with various disavantages.
    Questions are
    - Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
    - Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
    - What is the best work around for this?
At the moment I am seriously considering getting a separate iPhone for work and have that sync with Exchange fully although that seems a bit drastic and does not solve the problem of seeing work and home appointments on the same calendar.

Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.
Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.
What is the best work around for this?
None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.

  • Lion iCal Can't Open Other Calendars, Outlook Can

    Hey folks -
I'm connecting Mail.app, iCal, and Address Book to the corporate Exchange server here at work.  The one bit I can't seem to get to work with any regularity is access other calendars (delegates) in iCal.  I know my NT account can see those calendars because I can look at them and even edit them from within the Mac version of Outlook.  However, when I try to point iCal at them, sometimes I can see them, other times I can't.  And generally when I can see them, they appear read-only.
I'm assuming the Mac version of Outlook is doing something "special" with the Exchange server, but I don't know that for sure.  Any guesses?
    Thanks.
    jas

You probably need to reinstall iCal as an optional installation from your installation disk. Then download and run the 10.5.6 Combo Update package.

  • ICal and iPod glitch?

I want to know if this is a glitch or if there is something wrong with my equitment. What happens is I have a reoccuring event and when I delete one of the events inbetween it goes away from my iCal like it should but on my iPod it remains. So if someone else could try recreating this problem on their equipment that would be great here is what you do:
Make an event that reoccurs everyday for a week.
    Sync iPod
Now delete one of the events in the middle (say the reoccurence on a wed. just delete that one event for that day and it will ask and respond "only this event")
Now Sync iPod again and see on the wed (or whatever day you did) is still appearing on the iPod even though you deleted it on the iCal.
    Thank you,
    TM

    T.M.
I just tried doing what you suggested and it turned out as it is supposed to. I used to have issues (still have one, in fact) that were similar.
What I did to start with a clean slate is this:
First I went into iCal and set up my calendars the way I wanted them. Recurring events were set up, etc.
Before syncing with my iPod, I opened the iPod as a disk and trashed the calendar folders. Now this is important - you must empty the trash before syncing, otherwise for some strange reason, the trash is placed back on the iPod.
Now do a sync and all should be well. Then try your test again and see if it solves your issue.
The one issue I haven't been able to resolve is that I have a recurring event for the last Friday of every month. It is properly set up on iCal, but when synced to the iPod, the event shows up on the last Thursday of every month. Strange as that sounds, imagine this - once the event showed up on Friday as was proper, then after the next sync it went back to Thursday even though the event remained the same, untouched, on iCal.
Hope I've helped you out. Let me know if the above works for you, I'm curious.
